DUALISM does for AI and quantum computing what SINGULARITY did for black holes, relativity and quantum mechanics. DUALISM isn't a sequel as much as it is a new adventure for Bonaventure and Knox, the heroine and hero who saved the world from a madman in SINGULARITY.

This time out the excellent science behind the fiction revolves around true AI, made possible because of the advent of large scale quantum computing. Consultant Jonathan Knox is hired by the world's 4th richest man, who is a tech geni

Outstandingly!

He did it again. A new plot, new, interesting characters along with deepening of familiar characters. Great in depth research showing a deep understanding of his subject. And he made me reach for a dictionary multiple times. Don't miss it.

After inexplicably being unavailable in either paperback or eBook format for several years, Dualism recently became available again. Dualism was an enjoyable sequel to Singularity. It didn't catch my attention to the same extent as Singularity, but was a solid book. Jon Knox and Marianna Bonaventure get wrapped up in a new complex mystery with the balance of Earth once again in the mix. This book certainly had some twists that I wasn't expecting. The authors dive into AI was impressive, especial ...more

Bill DeSmedt's first novel, the science-fiction thriller Singularity, came out as long ago as 2005, and must rank as one of the best debut SF novels of recent decades. I gave it a very favorable review for the webzine Infinity Plus, which review is also reproduced here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... In that novel, rookie covert agent Marianna Bonaventura and management consultant Jonathan Knox -- the latter having uncanny pattern-recognition skills -- together counter an evil plot th

Excellent story. Muslim terrorists (so probably not a candidate for a movie, Hollywood would see this plot as non Politically Correct no doubt). Artificial Intelligence, A frightening plot to destroy the USA (Great Satan). Several of the main characters in the book "Singularity" reprise their roles in this book, so probably a good idea to read that book first, although not mandatory. Lots of hard science / science fiction / science speculation thrown into the mix. An enjoyable read. ...more

Bill DeSmedt has spent his life living by his wits and his words. In his time, and as the spirit has moved him, he’s been: a Soviet Area expert and Soviet exchange student, a computer programmer and system designer, a consultant to startups and the Fortune 500, an Artificial Intelligence researcher, an omnivorous reader with a soft spot for science fiction and science non-fiction, and now, Lord he ...more
