Recently instead of reading lengthy and heavier books on biography and history, I have become more interested in smaller and lighter books that are a combination of biography and tour guide. This title perfectly fits what I have been enjoying lately.
We recently visited Patrick Henry's final residence (Red Hill) in central Virginia and was given this title to read. Having just completed the book, here's what I like:
- Very well organized: the book seems to be organized in the order of Patrick Henry's life and where he lived as he aged. Makes it easy to better understand and follow the events of his life. - Very well written - the book is easy to read and understand, does a great job of what Patrick Henry accomplished and did while living at the particular residence, and includes reasons why he moved to another home. - Includes clear and easy to understand directions on how to reach the particular location and what, if anything, still remains at the site (marker, foundation/ruins of the house, whether the house still stands, etc.). - Great combination of biography and tour guide. - The book is light and easy to carry with you while visiting the site(s). - Includes a helpful index in case the reader wants to read about a particular event/period in Henry's life.
I hope to visit/revisit some or all of the Patrick Henry sites again soon and will definitely bring this title with me. Highly recommended!
This was an easy book to read. It’s meant to be used as trip guide to all the places Patrick Henry lived and spent time. But it was still informative and I learned a little more about the personality and character of my ancestor. Such a privilege to be a direct descendant of him. What a legacy to look up to!
A very interesting take on a typical biography. The story of Patrick Henry's life is told through descriptions and histories of the places he lived and visited throughout his lifetime. A well-written and easy read. Very enjoyable.
