Always Divas #2

More Than I Can Bear: Always Divas Series Book Two

Rate this book
Some would say that God will not put on a person more than she can bear, but Paige begs to differ, because she is truly on the edge. One more unexpected and unpleasant occurrence and she’ll be free falling.
As if physical, mental, sexual, and spiritual abuse from her husband doesn’t weigh heavily enough on her, Paige has learned that her best friend and sister in Christ slept with her husband. Thank God for Norman, one of Paige’s co-workers. He is there to catch her fall before she hits the ground. But will Norman be there when Paige receives news that may not only push her off the edge, but cause her to jump willingly?
In More Than I Can Bear, Paige must decide if she is going to allow herself to drown in the storms she finds herself in, or catch hold of the lifesaver God extends to her.

Curveballs

Paige, finally divorced, is ecstatic to be rid of her physically, mentally, and abusive ex-husband. Before she can fully bask in her new single life, she learns she’s carrying their child. The last thing Paige wants is a child who resembles her tormenter. While Paige’s faith wavers, Norman, her BFF and co-worker, is there to remind her that God is still in the mist.

A true friend, Norman proposes marriage. Paige is pleased because this way she doesn’t have to deal with any further scrutiny about her failed marriage. Regrettably, as they are making plans, they forget to pray about their situation. Will this marriage of convenience be a blessing or a curse?

Paige finds her faith tested repeatedly. Will Paige finally be able to see God’s love all over her life before it’s too late? Or will it be more than she can bear?

As usual, E.N. Joy completely pulls readers in. I cried with Paige, grieved with her, and prayed for her salvation throughout the story. I love that even though this is a continuing series that the stories are still engaging and keep readers fully engaged. Also, they aren’t preachy, but inspirational and encouraging. I love that the characters are tested with real life scenarios, because, let’s be honest, we’re all tested and it’s our testimonies that may lead others to Christ and/or help restore our own faith in God.

MORE THAN I CAN BEAR is definitely recommended reading!

If you're looking for a quick read, this is the book for you. However, the character Paige will work on your last nerve. She worked on my last nerve. To Paige, God is not almighty. He is a wishy washy boyfriend who doesn't meet her needs and wants on a regular basis. God fills her life with burdens after burdens. Paige doesn't have the faith the size of a mustard seed. But to her credit, she struggles with her faith like most Christians. I didn't find anything redeeming or lovable about this Paige character. There are books I've read, I would read over and over again. "More Than I Can Bear" is not one of them.

E.N. Joy amazingly writes the dynamics of the characters relationships, demographics, conflicts, and emotions about each person that plays a part in Paige's life after her divorce, including hers. You will either approve or disapprove of Paige's reactions to her current situation(s), but she is truly only human. Norman, her best friend, seems like a spiritually sound man but shares his true passions for Paige once they become "one" and wondering what will happen now they are under the same roof.

At first, I thought Norman did have some "sugar in his tank" and wondered how he was familiar with hip hop to gospel tunes (Jay Z to J Moss comment to Paige). Overall, I was also able to see the differences of the characters--their roots, backgrounds, and personal beliefs. (I felt like I was in a Jefferson episode, or interracial marriage reactions of family members that still can happen in this age).

Although some cannot accept or approve of your decisions or choices (like parents also illustrated in the novel with Paige and her mother), and compare you to them--ultimately, you are the one that have to make those decisions/choices, not them. I respect that some people in the novel shared these things with Paige, but again, this is her life and she writes her own story that she'll have to answer to Jesus as a result! I may at times disliked Paige's wavering, being double-minded, and more doubt and blaming than accepting, admitting, and having faith but we see many Christ-followers like this today. Like Jesus said to his followers, "you have such little faith!" And said to Peter, "Satan wants to sift you out like wheat." I hope this doesn't happen to Paige and seek true repentance, and quit playing the victim role and go after her VICTORY! Can Norman help her see the light, the truth, and the way?

I love stories like this that are thought-provoking, surreal, and entertaining but shows people broken that needs healing and restoration. I truly hope this for Paige...so let me continue reading and finish this story to get to the next book in the series (back to back this time since it's been years since I read book 1 in the Always Diva Series). My favorite short-lived character was Miss Nettie; we need someone to peel the onions and show us the truth no matter how messy and smelly it is (cry your eyes out)!

Leisure read 2015.

This was a decent read and took some twists I actually wasn't expecting but for me the ending left me singing the Smurf song (la-la-la).

Paige, a Christian who loves The Lord, is faced with a myriad of trials that really, really test her faith. She believes in God and knows he's the way, the truth and the life. The problem with this is she doesn't understand why a God, who is supposed to love her, would allow her to be covered with a multitude of tribulations. Time after time she is faced with more pain that she can bear...BUT GOD!

Where do I begin? This book was written is such a way that it grabbed my attention, gripped my heart and invited my emotions along for an in-depth yet enlightening ride. E. N. Joy quickly drew me in with a captivating opening, a heart-felt storyline and a satisfying ending.

This is Christian Fiction at its finest! She wrote an amazing story, developed strong characters and brought you just the right amount of Word that will touch your soul. For me this was the total package. She combines two of the things I love most: My God and a great story. Although this is book two in a series, it definitely stood on its own. I LOVED IT. I give it Five Stars!!!!!

It began with, "I hate You!" There were definitely moments where I was thinking the same thing about Paige's story line that seemed to drag along at times. As I continued to read, however, I realized that all of the pieces were purposely placed to make for a good read.

God and his promises, what a powerful revelation. I enjoyed this book. Paige endured so many trials that tested her faith. But she was blessed to have saints all around her to pull her back into God’s light every time satin tried to pull her away.

Unlike most people in these reviews; I listened to this book in audible. The story was good, BUT… The narrator sucks. I started this book abt a month ago and couldn’t focus because of this voice. Every character sounds the same. Just so happens I was bored and decided to give it one more chance, and it worked.

E. N. Joy's second book in the Always Divas series had a tough act to follow. I Ain't Me No More is now on my all-time favorite list. I didn't know what to expect with this one. However, the second book is more than just the beautiful graphics on the cover.
Within the pages is the story of Paige, a woman who faced much to bear. I laughed. I cried. I was taken on an emotional roller coaster than ultimately ended with me knowing God is in charge and He knows best. This was a woman's spiritual journey of facing tough times and then looking back to discover God was there and He had her all along. Readers expect to see God's Anointing in this one. How much can we bear? We can bear as much as needed for God to get us where we need to be. May God continue to bless the work of her hand and I know some souls will be led to the Word of God after reading this.

"More Than I Can Bear" is rollercoaster faith ride!!! Paige is a modern day Job! Just when I thought surely her storms were over another would roll in! E.N. Joy has penned another inspirational story with an awesome support cast of characters! "Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning!"

More Than I Can Bear!!! Paige went through so much in her life. An ex-husband that treated her bad and a so called best friend betray her. Paige allowed her faith to waiver, but through it all she trusted in the Lord. There are times when we will go through things, but God don’t put more on us then we can bear!!!!
