Mrs. LaBella is a highly descriptive writer. With her words, she will make you see what the characters see, as if you were standing beside them. Her food and wine pairings may give you cravings for those items.
This story is about a strong heroine, Ali, who is in her 50's. She has experienced many high achievements in her careers, but not in her partners. She has lost most of her family, but has a chosen family of close friends and one cross-country cousin.

Handsome New York master chef Darien McKenna is too busy running his fancy restaurant, Chez Nous, to pursue the many interested women falling at his handsome feet. Alison Clarke is content running her media consulting firm and real estate projects, and doesn't need a man to complete her. But sparks fly when these two cross paths at a charity event, and while Darien takes special notice of her, Ali in turn decides to plan a visit to inspect Chez Nous and its chef. Neither is looking for a relatio ...more

While this was not a bad book, I found it to be bland and boring. It did not seem there was any passion between the characters. When it was revealed Ali was 20 years older than Darien, it sort of turned for me. For example, what if Darien decided he wanted children down the road. Age difference just glazed over. This book just didn't have any wow factor for me ...more

I love romance novels who have strong, female characters and Ali Clarke is one of the strongest. Darien McKenna was romantic and loving, while still being very much a "man's man". I think this was a good first novel for Ms. LaBella. It had enough sex without being gratuitous. While Ali was very accomplished - perhaps it was too much, I wanted to see more tension from the character...maybe a few more problems in their personal/work lives or issues Ali and Darien had to deal with as a couple. Teresa LaBella has been fascinated with fiction since she learned to read. Her need to write developed past the stage of idea to 'I did' in the contemporary romance novel "Reservations" and 'I did it - again!' in "Heartland," the second novel in the romance trilogy. In the final novel of the trilogy, the story moves from the Midwest to Scotland where a young woman's personal quest to find herself ...more
