This book gives a thorough description of Hinduism. The four chapters explore the history of the religion, the beliefs, religious practices, and holidays. There is also a section that lists further books and websites on Hinduism.

I felt this was a good introduction to Hinduism. It is age appropriate and easy to read, yet contains quite a bit of detailed information about the history and beliefs. I liked the way the author separated the material into four chapters, and included plenty of colorful pictures. I also thought the addition of the “For Further Exploration” was beneficial, especially the listing of websites. This way, if the reader wanted to find out more, they have the resources to do so.

It is thorough, but easy to read and to understand for a multitude of age ranges. It would be appropriate for Hindu students to read, as well as those who want to get more information for a school assignment, or for personal interest.

This book is a non-fiction book about Hinduism. It is separated into different chapters describing the Hindu religion. It states how the religion began, the belief system, practices, and holidays appropriately for children. As a literacy teacher, I do not think I would use this book in the classroom. It is strictly fact-based. I think the students will find it interesting to learn about a another culture though. The author does a great job exampling the religion in ways a child could understand. The illustrations are photographs that correctly correspond to the text. I would use this book to specifically teach about the Hindu religion.
