Destroy me.
Cancer.

She’s is the most epic fighter out there. She’s the most courageous of soldiers. And she’s the epitome of strength.
My little warrior has become my monster of fortitude.

Ava

I’m no longer fighting to keep my family safe, or even to protect them. I’m no longer battling against the forces of Mason’s past or even mine.
I’m fighting to maintain their future.
After everything; after years of trying to survive, after decades of struggling to touch the light at the end of the tunnel, after moments of utter heartache, life now hands me a new scar to heal.
Cancer.
My biggest fight ever, the hardest battle that I will ever face, and the one thing that can finally, destroy me.
Destroy him.
Cancer.
I am no longer his little warrior.
I can’t fight that battle for him anymore. I can’t be the pillar of strength he needs me to be. And I can’t be the wife and lover he needs.
Fortitude has taken his little warrior and morphed her into a monster.

This book contains explicit sex scenes including M/M and F/M/M/F, strong language and intense violence… oh, and one hell of an alpha male and one hell of a hard woman.

Let me start by saying i am a MASSIVE fan of the Heart of Stone series, i've loved every single book and even though i knew this was going to be the last book in the series, it really broke me to read this. It starts where Ferocity ends with Ava sharing her news with Mason and from the very first words, we're thrown back into the whirl wind that is the Fox's. This book seems to have that unique Heart of Stone feel to it, it truly is a rollercoaster read. D H Sidebottom has a way with writing about these characters that really makes you feel for them, whether you love them or love to hate them, this book made me feel so many different emotions and just like when i first started the series, it also made me throw my kindle at the wall. I couldn't believe what was happening half the time, i mean seriously how much can one couple take? But then i remembered it's Ava and Mason and lets face it that's why we love them. I cried so much reading this book, not to mention how angry i got at certain characters who shall remain nameless. We catch up with old friends and enemies and also meet a few new ones. Truths come out and lies are exposed. Is nothing what it seems? As emotional as this book was for me to read, i can honestly say that it was the best way to finish one of my all time favourite series. And the little flash backs in the book made me smile every single time. I ended up hating people i'd finally started to like, and liking people i'd always hated, i literally didn't know if i was coming or going. Another fantastic book from an absolutely brilliant author and as sad as i am to say goodbye to Mason (and Ava i suppose) i'm glad i got to share their adventures with them and absolutely gutted this is the end.

This series made me laugh and cry. It also made me want to throw my kindle, punch people, and drink to excess. Yes it was frustrating, yes the characters drove me to the brink of annoyed insanity, but in the end I guess you'd say there was an HEA found for most.

The series has a loose anchor with NSC Industries where I think every PA ever hired has a stalker at some point. We first met Nate and Liv in Angel ... They were college sweethearts who lost touch for nearly 20 years. They are reunited when Liv takes a job at NSC, not knowing that Nate is the owner. We meet her children, her psycho stalking ex husband, and her best friend Beth. Lots of drama, lots of hot sex (making up for 20 years takes some work ;) ) ... and we learn the HUGE secret Liv has been keeping from Nate since they parted ways all those years ago.

The Hunt for Summer introduces us to Lucas and Layla ... Lucas is the IT guru at NSC and meets Layla at the sex club where she dances. Imagine their surprise when she shows up as his temp pa and sparks fly including craziness from her psycho former dom.

Kade takes us deep into the mind of Kade Hamilton, who was introduced to us in earlier books in the series, but this one is his ... he finally finds the other half of his soul.

The other books in the series all center around Mason Fox and Ava Stone, and tie the other 3 books that I've already mentioned all together in one bundle of insanity and insatiable sex.
These two really did test my patience with their on again off again relationship, their need to hurt each other with what seemed to be little thought as to how their actions rippled throughout their children and group of friends. But they survived some serious bad situations and cancer.

In this series my favorite character was probably Jay, Nate and Liv's oldest son. He was never a main character, but I wish he'd gotten his own story, because I think he was seriously interesting and deserved it.

So I can’t say enough how much this series means to me. I’m a super huge fan of DH Sidebottom and every book she’s ever written, but the Heart of Stone series is by far, the most amazing I’ve ever read! It has it all…kinky passionate sex, undying love, mafia awesomeness, and all around heart wrenching emotions. The Fox family has become a part of my heart and soul, and this being the last book, has put me into an utter book hangover of all times!
Continuing where Ferocity left off, we find out Ava’s news and how she deals with the tragic situation. This was an epic battle of sheer will to live or die, and it was up to Ava to make that choice. Mason, being the stubborn alpha male he is, deals with the news in his own destructive way. I mean honestly, will this couple ever get the happily ever after they so desperately deserve?
Thrown back into the mix is our favorite vixen we love to hate…Rebecca. Oh how I despise this woman, and everything she’s done to try and destroy Ava and Mason’s love. But behold, I finally see another side to her, and somehow end up feeling a bit sorry for the witch…LOL…I know, hard to believe, but it’s true!
I cried through this whole damn story, just remembering all the pain and suffering this family has dealt with through the years. Then we’re given some amazing flashbacks, and can look upon the happy and sometimes funny moments they’ve had too. Thank you DH Sidebottom for bringing us this epic series, and for letting me fall in love with the Fox family!

Wow...I truly don't know what to say, what to write and how to put into words what I have just read.
I feel overjoyed...I feel traumatised...I even feel sick but overall I feel truly thankful.
Why do I feel thankful? For being part of a truly amazing journey with the Fox's , the highs and the very low's...to be part of a piece of writing that is so truly brilliant that I just feel so emotionally wrought and I am thankful for D H Sidebottom and the girls I have met through our love of this author and her works.
That being said there were a very few times I have wanted to kill her....one bit in particular...I will just say Rebecca at this point...Grrrr.
The Journey for Ava & Mason was heartbreaking...I do believe that as hard as it was Ava did do what was best for her true love knowing how it would tear them apart otherwise but seeing them both break at times was almost impossible to bear.
Despite the emotional book there still some famous sexy times and laughter with the gang and the ending was truly perfect.
Thankyou D H Sidebottom for an amazing series, an amazing conclusion but most of all for having the lady balls to tackle a subject that touches us all in some way with great sensitivity and realism because hell 'there for the grace of god go I '
I will truly miss them xxx

This whole series had me really at odds. I loved it at times and hated it as well.I did skip a couple of them and wasn't even going to finish it but I did read this last one. The part that I couldn't get myself around was Mason, claiming that Ava was his world and love of his life and then when the shit goes sideways he ends up with his ex..the one person that will always break Ava's heart to pieces. That was something that I as a reader could never understand. I know personally that cancer can't cause real torture to a relationship, (my husband died from cancer) but even through all the stress and grief, I never gave up on our love. To turn to anyone else for comfort was not even thinkable.

Seeing how the last book ended and this started, I armed myself with Kleenex and a bottle of wine to survive this trip. As the author says, cancer is a disease that not only hurts the one who has it, also the ones that surrounds it( I suffered it through my parents, both had it and only one survived the battle), so I knew that this book was going to hurt.
As each other faces the fight is something personal and Ava chooses to isolate herself from everyone so as not to see them suffer, she always puts others before her owns needs, but I agree with that Mason told her in the past, she has to start thinking of herself too in a selfish way. Mason doesn’t take the news well.

“Ava has cancer and she needs you.” He was silent for a moment and I chuckled, “Yeah, shit huh?”“Please tell me you’re not high and that you are actually just drunk.” “Ummm, no. I’m high.” I laughed at his gasp, “And fuck if it doesn’t feel good.”“Umm, at home I think. I dunno, I don’t want her. You can have her if you want.”“What the fuck did you just say?”He sounded mad but I would have thought he’d have been happy at my offer. After all, I was giving him something he’d wanted for over twenty years. “Ava, you still love her don’t you. Well, you can have her. It’s up to you though, I’ll leave it with you. I’m off, catch you later.”

“I can’t . . . I can’t Kade. I can’t face her, I can’t face . . . it.” He lowered his eyes and sighed. “I know Mason but you have to. She can’t do this alone, she can’t fight this without you. You have to be strong.”“Well I’m afraid you have to,” he continued calmly. “I’ll be here for you, but you need to be there for her.”“How long are you back for?” “As long as I’m needed.” His answer surprised me and I turned to him. “What? Don’t you have obligations and shit?” He sighed and closed the gap between us. “You and Ava are my only obligation at the moment. I said I’m here for you and I will be. You need to score, I’m there. You need to scream, I’m there . . .” “And fuck?” I asked as I quirked a brow at him. He smirked at me and chuckled, “I’m there.” His face grew serious as I watched the lust physically spill from him in potent currents, “All the way, balls fucking deep right in your tight ass.”“No, we swore we wouldn’t do this without the girls.” “The girls are fine about this, Kade. They told us that.” “I know, but we said no.” I nodded in agreement, “I know, but I don’t think they’re gonna go ape over a kiss so quit with the guilt.”

When Ava leaves Mason, she goes to a path of self-destruction, waiting for death or call her. Thankfully, Nate gets her and convinces her to go for the treatment.

“The plans we had made, for Kade and Grace to join us in Portugal, were now just dust, blown away by my capability of wrecking things. He was my soul, and he had been for so long that I didn’t know how to accept his love anymore. I didn’t know how to let him in to the pain that was killing me before the cancer even had chance to. I didn’t know how to let go either though, but I knew I would have to. Yet, even though the pain was so agonising that I could feel each minute fracture as my heart slowly splintered inside me, I knew it wouldn’t be death that tortured me, it would be saying goodbye to the only man that had ever held my heart in his hand, the only man that had ever felt the intensity of its beat every time he had smiled at me, and the only man that had ever touched my soul and felt the force of it inside himself. Tonight my glorious bastard needed to secure memories that would hopefully give his heart and soul something to feed from in the upcoming battle ahead. Tonight I said goodbye.”

“The room was spinning, the faces blurred and wobbly in my haze of coke. No wonder Mason always turned to this shit, it was good at obliterating thoughts and emotions, and excellent at forcing back my self-hatred. I could do this, I could fuck another. It would be so easy. I’ve been raped, I’ve been beaten, I’ve been tortured for Christ’s sake, but not once, not one single time did I ever give up.”“Enough of this crap Ava, you were born to fucking fight. And now . . .” his voice broke and he coughed to clear it away, “now you fucking fight.”“Okay,” I whispered. I nodded. “But you do this with me. Not Courtney, not Kade, not even Mason. I don’t want them to watch this. Just you.”

They separate for months and Mason, as always, throws himself at drugs, fuck everything that is put in front of him, including Rebeca and Ava’s nurse.

“I shook my head when I saw her attached to someone’s face but then she shifted and my world fell apart. Mason grabbed the back of her neck and pulled my friend back onto his mouth, his hands sliding around her back to pull her even further into him.”
“no wonder she freaked out, she watched you kissing her fucking friend. In my book, that’s pretty low.”
“I didn’t know she was her mate.”“Don’t look at me either. I didn’t know you were her husband.”
“The room swam and my heart crushed against my ribs when I realised she’d brought Mason home to have sex.”

“I looked around for the occupiers and groaned louder when I found them bent over a small table, both of them snorting lines of coke naked. “Just put the tray over there,” a voice said as he pointed to another table in the corner. The tray finally slipped from my grasp as vomit rushed up my throat. I only just managed to hold onto it when Mason turned round and frowned at me. “You okay, love?” Realisation hit him with a force when he disregarded the blonde wig and the false breasts disguising me. “Ava?” I stared in silence when the brunette turned to face me. “Well, hello Ava.” Rebecca sneered. Everything I had hung on to, everything I had fought for these past six months disintegrated in a heap around me. My heart and soul burst open in so much agony that I would forever feel the pain. “Why . . .” My jaw opened and closed as I took in their bare bodies, condoms littering the floor and the lines of snow decorating the table. “Ava . . .” He stumbled to his feet, his high causing him problems when I backed off and he couldn’t reach me quick enough.”

Ava takes refuge in Dane Steed, a man who works for Mason (Mason is back in the criminal life) and for weeks has been trying to have sex with her.

“For one, I will leave you when I deem it safe. And secondly, I have been taking you home for the last three weeks because I can guarantee one day you will invite me in, strip me naked and sink that delicious mouth of yours around my cock until I come right down your elegant little throat.Never be ashamed of your body, Ava. You are fucking beautiful.” He was angry but I nodded faintly. “Now apologise and hold your hands behind your back.”“You stay, then I fuck you like you’ve never been fucked before . . . my way.”
“THE SCREAM ECHOED off my bedroom wall, bouncing around until it rebounded back at me. I groaned loudly when he opened my ass cheeks and reamed my anus with his tongue, preparing me for how he liked to take me. “Your pretty little ass is throbbing, Ava. Does it want my cock?” I nodded, barely able to talk with the thousand sensations running through my body. “Yes,” I managed to mutter. His palm struck my bottom again, reigniting the pain from the belt before his cock slid into my ass. “Fuck!” Steed hissed as he pushed in deeper. My body pressed deeper into the mattress as Steed screwed me with his usual fury and anger. He was feral, his drives into me painful but oh so good. His erotic moans heightened my lust as I rocked my hips in rhythm with his thrusts. His fingers dug into my shoulders as he held me down and took me like an animal, completely mounting me to grant him a deeper assault. His onslaught became frenzied as we both soared towards orgasm, our grunts and groans as loud as the flesh slapping in the silence.”

“Go home, Mason. I don’t want you here.” “I wanted to check you were okay.”She scoffed loudly. “You wanted to check up on me? Why?”“Because I found you with that fucking whore again? AGAIN!”I was just about to answer her when I caught the mark on her neck. I swear something invisible hit me in the face and chest simultaneously. I gripped her face and moved her head aside to make sure I hadn’t imagined it. “What the fuck is that?”“It’s a bite.”“Who?”“It doesn’t matter who. You have your new fuck, well now, I have mine.”“You are mine. MINE!” She glared at me, hatred and anger heaving from her in huge quantities. “And who do you belong to, Mason. Eh? It is definitely not me, it never really has been, has it? You’ve always been hers. She always seems to win, Mason. Whatever I do, she always wins.”“She hasn’t won, baby. I will always belong to you.”“No, Mason. You have already proved that you were never mine. Go.” She turned away from me, her shoulders heaving as she tried to control her tears. “Go back to her. I told you, I set you free. You are free to fuck who you want, as am I.” “NO!” I roared as I grabbed her arms and spun her to face me. “You will never be free. Your body belongs to me, as does your heart and soul and I will never let them free. I will never let you take them from me.” I leaned into her until I was hovering over her, “I will find out who he is Ava, and then he’s mine!”

Rebeca, who in this book, we can see another side of her and I’m glad of the final talk with Ava, served to close many wounds ( although if the result had been different I don’t know how things would have evolved).

“If Mason means that much to you, why did you bribe him to marry you? Wouldn’t you have just wanted him to be happy?” She sighed and rolled her lips, her gaze slipping from me to a random spot of dirt on the floor. “It was all so hard at first. I got pregnant and daddy did something I had no idea about at first.” “You didn’t know he was blackmailing Mason?” She shook her head and looked at me, “Not at first, no. He’d asked who the father was, I told him Mason but I knew he wouldn’t want anything to do with it and daddy took it from there. But then it was so easy to go along with.” I frowned and tipped my head in confusion. “But it wasn’t Mason’s baby, was it?” She shook her head, her teeth gnawing on her sore lips as her heartache took her to a place I knew all too well. “No it wasn’t. At first I thought it was. The dates fit, even though I’d had sex with another.”“No Rebecca, the dates didn’t fit.” She turned to me, her eyes so sad and watery. “I . . . I lost it.” “What?” None of it was making sense. She blew out hard and shifted until she was looking at me without a twist in her neck. “I was six weeks pregnant when you came on the scene.” “Oh my god . . .” She nodded slowly. “I knew he didn’t love me, Ava. I knew it in my bones and I selfishly hoped the baby was his but then as soon as I found out, I lost it.” “Oh . . .” “Yeah, nothing more to say really is there. Anyway, it had been my only hope of . . . of holding onto him. I knew he would never turn his back on a child so . . .” “So?” I urged her on. “So, I slept with someone, became pregnant again and told Mason it was his.”“I loved him so much Ava, I need you to understand that. I needed him with an ache that was physical. It tore at me daily, and it broke me down so much until there was nothing of me left. I turned into the crazy woman who would do anything to get the man she loved. He turned me into that woman.” “I . . .” “He knew though.” She smiled sadly. “He knew it wasn’t his even before you threw that paternity test at us. He’d known long before that . . .” “Rebecca . . .”

The relationship between Rebeca and Mason always sees casual but it is something much deeper than that.

“I always knew you would come back to me.I said I knew one day it would be me and you again, both of us together like it should have been.” I stared at her and cocked my head. “Bec, we’re not back together.” She pulled her perfectly groomed eyebrows together and squinted at me, “Umm yeah, we are. What’s this then?” I laughed at her, “It’s called fucking, and you of all people should know that. For fucks sake. You need to stop this, Bec. I don’t love you, I will never love you. You’re just a hot cunt. That’s it, that’s all it’s ever been with me and you. Fucking, screwing, shagging . . . call it what you want but you need to realise that I don’t—want—you!”“All I ever did was love you. I would never leave you. However much you hurt me, however much I hurt myself, cancer or no cancer . . . I love you too much to hurt you. Think about that when you’re next comparing me to your wife, who incidentally didn’t bat an eyelash when she kicked you to the curb.” My heart ruptured in my chest when the front door closed and her final words brought a truth. However much Rebecca annoyed me, she was right. Her love and faith in me had never wavered in nearly thirty years. She had been there through everything. She had taken my shit, she had faced up to each and every single word I hurt her with and she had held firm. She had never ran, she had never once intentionally hurt me, and she had never turned her back on me, no matter how much I hurt her. But I didn’t love her. I knew that, and she needed to know that. She would never be what I wanted and I could never be what she wanted. She didn’t own my heart, she didn’t even hold a fragment of it. It belonged to my wife, every single part of it. I reached under the bed and slid out the tray. Chopping a line, my gaze slid to the two wedding rings on the dresser where I’d placed them earlier after returning. I sighed and pushed the tray back to its original place. I’d never get her back by hanging onto the coke, she had seen it in me as soon as I had looked at her. But fuck, I missed her so much. My whole body was incomplete, just a half of what it should be. My soul wept daily, my heart struggled to even beat and my world was now just a corner in the shadows of existence.”

Mason has sex with Rebeca for 6 years without a condom, what I do not understand is why after 20 years Mason did not clarify things with Ava and is Rebeca who is completely honest with her.

“He always knew, Ava. We’d never in six years used a condom, and I’d never got pregnant before, so he knew.” “You’re not making sense.” She frowned at me. “Well he would never be the dad to my baby if he can’t have kids, would he?”Ava . . . shit. Why did he never tell you? I thought you knew. I thought . . . I thought . . .” “Are you saying he knows?” “Yes,” she nodded. “He had an inkling at the beginning, when I never got pregnant. And when I told him I was pregnant he went and got tested. His swimmers don’t swim Ava. Mason is infertile.”

“Well, we’d been together . . . a while and you know me, Ava, I bloody hate condoms, when we first got together I never bloody used them.” “Mm-hmm, even though you used to swear to me that you did!” He grimaced when I quirked a brow at him. “I know, I know, I shouldn’t have lied but it seemed important to you, that you were the only one that I didn’t use them with. “It’s strange. We were strange, our whole relationship was bloody strange. But she was always there, you know, always on her knees when my cruel side merged. She would always take my hatred and . . .” he paused and blew out a breath. “I’m not proud of how I treated her, Ava. I was cruel but it was almost like the worse I got with her, the harder she tried. She just took it, and that is . . . was quite the ultimate feeling of power. To hold that much influence over someone . . .” He swallowed as shame held him, his fingernails digging into the palm of his hand. “She loved me and I hurt her. That’s all I can say really. She wasn’t a bad person, Ava. I just made her into one.” “You have a habit of doing that.” He snapped his head towards me and frowned, “I do?” “You do.” I nodded seriously. “I was never bad before I met you.”

The new relationship between Mason and Kade although I like it also confuses me, now all of them are going to live together in Portugal, Mason and Kade declares they love each other, so Mason’s jealousy is completely gone? Kade and Mason they have several intimate scenes themselves without the wifes.

“He tugged on my hand and flicked his head to Grace. She smiled and nodded before Kade pulled me up the stairs and into one of the privates. He took us straight over to the couch before pulling me beside him. His hands were on my face immediately, his thumbs wiping at my tears as his lips caressed my cheeks, his love swallowing each painful tear that left me. I moaned and slid my fingers through his hair, pulling him further into me as he continued to work me through my heartache.”“I love you,” he choked out as he lifted to look at me. “I love you.” I replied as I kissed him tenderly, pressing my lips against his to show him as well as tell him.

Can’t wait to read the next.

Take a Bow D.H.Sidebottom Outstanding End to an amazing series.

D.H.Sidebottom the final book in an amazing series that had it all....Love, betrayal, lie's, laughter a roller-coaster of a series.
I have said it before when DHS write's she writes with passion she is the author with the golden touch.
What an end to a series that not only has you fallen in love with the characters, disliking some characters but got many people talking and becoming great friends.

D.H Sidebottom you my lovely deserve a standing ovation for the whole series.

Fortitude well what can i say, just WOW, at the end of the novella Ferocity the final line had you in tears a subject very close to my heart as well as many other's out there, so yes waiting (not long) for Fortitude to hit my Kindle i didn't know how DHS would go knowing that she love's to throw twist and turns in her stories Fortitude was the final book that i was very nervous to read but knew i had to read it to see how it ended.

Yep there was tear's of total heartbreak, tear's of laughter there was times i held my breath and there was time's i had to put my kindle down just to gather my thought's.

Mason and Ava haven't always had it easy but this final part was the hardest of all there struggles, but they dealt with it Mason and Ava's style.....

With the end now of Mason and Ava yes i hope they pop up in spin off series but knowing this is the final time DHS write's totally about them has left me feeling a bit lost.

I LOVED Ava's strength, passion and love for her family yep i'm an Ava fan! but i also LOVED Mason how he loved his little warrior

The final part of the book had me giggling that Ms Sidebottom was the prefect end to the most outstanding masterpiece of a series.

I can't wait for more from you.

I have said it once, twice many time's you are a very talented writer with an amazing gift..I THANK YOU not only for giving us (yes some of us are hardcore fans of yours) books that will have anyone gripped from the first page till the very last, but bring a group of people from all over the world together to build friendships that stemmed from your writing.

I said at the beginning of this review Take a bow DHS and i truly mean it...AMAZING JUST TOTALLY AMAZING.

Finally saying goodbye to Mason and Ava! As we learned at the end of Ferocity Ava has cancer. This book deals with Ava and Mason's battle with cancer and each other.

All of the old cast of secondary characters, and a few new ones, appear in this book to support Ava and Mason during this very difficult time. I don't know if I waited to long in between reading the last book and this book, but I was not in the mood for this story. It may also have been a case of I'm tired of reading the same old with Ava and Mason.

I'm going to give benefit of the doubt and rate this book in the middle. I did not hate it, but I did not love it. I'm just glad their story is over. D.H. Sidebottom gave me what I needed in the end to be able to say goodbye to Mason and Ava. Let them rest in peace.

Why Not 5 Stars?

I was invested in this story in the beginning. My heart ached for Ava and Mason. Some scenes were very emotional, some steamy. At about the 38% mark, I became disinterested and had thoughts to DNF this book (it would have been a first time for me!). I did this when an incident occurred and I thought, here we go again. It was the scene where . Really, again! Prior to that there was Ava with the same . This was so repetitive from the other books! So I decided to skip to the 63% mark, where it looked like some action was taking place. I was excited. Guess what? The same I'm thinking this may have happened before in a previous book(s) in the series. IT DID!!!!

I was sick of Mason of Ava. Sick and tired of: Ugh!! Enough!!

FIVE GOLDEN STARS

Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse Nuttall for Kindle Friends Forever

Ava kicks arse! So when she breaks distressing news to Mason, those last three words in the pen ultimate book of the Heart of Stone series, Ferocity, left me thunderstruck! We have been taken on a turbulent ride throughout this saga filled with passionate love, lust-ridden sex, revengeful acts carried out by the notorious Rebecca who I might add, brought out the worst in me! Vendettas are explicitly described and contrast with lifelong lasting friendships. Friends became enemies and enemies became friends.

Now Ava has to tackle the biggest challenge ever. How she copes with it isn't exactly what one would expect but the only way she knows how to do it, is by rejecting the love of her life. Although my heart was with Ava every step of the way, I found her stubbornness and actions so irritatingly frustrating. I can honestly say that if I sobbed for her, I was agonized for Mason! Yeah, my book-lover Vickie Leaf is mine! He always seemed to put his foot in it and make matters worse, but this Alfa man’s wrongdoings are easily forgiven in a heart-rending and outstandingly written story that for me, the word perfection is an understatement.

The author helps us remember anecdotes and scenes in the series by flipping back and forth, and makes the dialogue between the main protagonists come alive. I especially liked Ava’s subtle way of correcting Mason’s adages which made me laugh out loud. We are introduced to a fantastic new character in Fortitude too, so I hope the author won’t write him off!

Ms Sidebottom! My reviews are totally unbiased. They are written to guide the reader and help them chose the genre. But how could I possibly say farewell to the Fox’s without saying a few special words to you. You are AWESOME! Not only is your style of writing captivating, but you have also managed to deal with a subject that affects many in their daily lives with an admirable sensitivity. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

BRAVO!

Wow DH this 1 was just perfect.

I really don't know where to begin with this, Heart Of Stone is by far the best most explosive series I have ever read. As always with Dawn's style, you know its going to get really emotional and it wouldn't be DH without the hottest steamy sex scenes either.
This 1 has had me ugly crying in 1 instance, then with the next line, my all time favorite characters come out with something that has me cracking up laughing my way through the tears.

In Fortitude we are dealing with Ava's fight with the dreaded big C, so many people suffer with in this world and Ava and Mason battle through this in their own way, the only way they know how. Because it's a fight not everyone can always win, just hold on to these 3 words, Faith, Hope and Love and pray you come out the other side.

Mason and Ava Fox are the most awesome couple and have always been the perfect match for each other. I have loved every minute with them and I feel like I've lived their past 20 years with them as my friends. Too me they are so much more than characters in a book, and it's been 1 hell of a rollercoaster ride.

This was just the perfect ending to the most fantastic heart wrenching emotional series. I am very sad to say goodbye to the Fox's but they needed closure and an end to their story, but my favorite book couple will always have a place in my heart and I know they are only a page away.
Thank you DH for giving us that Glorious Bastard and His Little Warrior. <3 <3 <3

I can't believe it's all over ! Tell me it isn't so !!!

Well what can I say another brilliant book from DH Sidebottom in the Heart of Stone series which is one of my all time favorites. If you haven't read any of these books then why ?? Where have you been for the last year, get them downloaded now, you will not regret it. They will take you are on one hell of a rollercoaster ride, one minute you are laughing out loud, then crying well when I say crying I mean sobbing your heart out then whooping for joy as Ava or Mason have done something that will you take your breath away and all that could be in one chapter, yes I did warn you, don't tell me I didn't ;-)

This book is Mason and Ava's final story to tell and what a story it is. I'll not go into the story as I don't want to spoil it but I just want to say this author tells it with great sensitivity and that is something not many authors can do. It's a beautiful, heart-wrenching, not heartbreaking as that doesn't quite cover it, story.

You get all the characters you have read about in series which seemed very fitting for the final book and DH ties it all up in a neat bow to round it all off. I loved it I really did, well done DH you have done it yet again !

Oh and I really do mean bubble wrap your kindle as it will get thrown in sheer frustration just don't throw it too hard or too far as I promise it will all be fine ;-) x

😭😭😭😭

This book almost tore my whole apart.
It was touch and go throughout the whole damn book.

At one point I almost did a Joey from friends and put this book in my freezer I was to terrified to carry on. I didn't know what the author was planning on doing with the storyline.
My stomach was in my mouth the whole time.
I love love love Mason he's my absolute ultimate favourite Book boyfriend.
(I've officially claimed him, the proof is right here.)
I flipping adore Ava she's my kind of girl she bloody rocks. And if I have to share Mason with anyone then it's her and her alone.

Each and every single character in this series stole a piece of my heart and will forever hold that piece.

By far one of my all time favourite series... EVER!!!!

SMASHED IT YET AGAIN DH.

I'd give this book and series a thousand stars if i could.
I know a time will come when this series will end completely, bit please give me more time with them. 🙏

Just WOW. To be honest since the original 4 heart of stone books I have found the story has lost some of its punch, but this book was brilliant! Heartbreaking at some points and laugh out loud funny at others.

I can’t help thinking that they would save themselves a lot of heartache by just talking about things, but where would the fun be in that!

I once read somewhere that it shows the strength of the author to turn someone you hate, in this case Rebecca, and turn them in to someone you understand, sympathise and even like. In this book I certainly changed my opinion to the point of feeling bad when she died and wishing she hadn’t.

I am not sure if they are star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet or just plain toxic for each other. The depths they sink to and the trail of pain and betrayal is breathtaking. Whilst each book is a train crash sadly I must keep reading

Let me first start off by saying I have loved this series ,,, if you haven't read them you really REALLY need to and in the written order ,,, the NSC / heart of stone series all combine and flow so they really are ideally read in order

Wow ,,, just wow ,,, DH Sidebottom has written some hard core scenes throughout this series ,,, we have been given so much throughout ,,, and ya know what it feels like you've been there like a fly on the wall through the most of it ,,, intense is an understatement as is dark ,,, this is beyond anything most people could even imagine and that just makes it all the more alluring. ,, I feel like a moth to a light ,,, I know it's harsh, dark and intense ,,,but yet I left going back over and over again wanting more and more each time ,,,

This book is the final chapter to Ava and Masons story ,,, it saddens me to know this is it now ,,, but oh my what a journey people ,,, they have been through so so much ,,, more than anyone could imagine ,,,worse things than most would have nightmares over ,,, but throughout it all their souls have remained as one ,,, Ava and Mason are not individuals they are one entity ,,, neither can survive or live without the existence of the other ,,,

Ava has got to be the strongest and bravest leading female character I have read ,,, the things she has endured in her life are things you wouldn't wish upon your worst enemy but yet through it all she found the strength somehow and somewhere to keep moving forward ,,, to keep her head held high and remain the pillar of strength ,,, her husband has broken her ,,, she has hurt him ,,, she has been tortured, raped beaten and assaulted in more ways than I have words to describe and she has come out on top ,,, but when the news is given to her that she has cancer she has no strength she has only fear and self loathing ,,, she has been this brave girl for so many people and for so long she cannot bare the thought of being seen to be weak and fragile ,,, she is broken more than at any other time in her life ,,,the time with Dane is nothing in comparison to her fight against cancer ,,,

In true Ava style she puts everyone else I front of herself and walks away ,,,not wanting them to feel her pain ,,, not wanting them to see her differently,,, not wanting them to she her vulnerable, weak, broken ,,, and the changes that will undoubtedly occur to her body ,,, she leaves them with the memories they already have and not any new ones ,,,

In true Mason style ,,, he breaks ,, no Ava means Mason is a mess

New revelations are made ,,, promises kept ,,, hearts are broken ,,, tears are shed ,,,some hot scenes are thrown in there ,,, some past revisits the present and some issues are resolved ,,, there is some light in this book but of course there is a whole lot of dark ,,, come on this is Ava and Mason we are talking about ,,, battles are fought ,,, strength is found ,,, weakness is present ,,, these two know how to break one another and the do it so well they would win awards for their epic style

This is an amazing end to a fantastic series gutted its over I've enjoyed every moment

Highly recommend these to all :)

Oh god I don't know where to even start with this...... We all know how the last book ended, if tore out our hearts, So we all know what D H is capable of. SO as you can imagine I was TERRIFED to read this book. Literally shaking when I picked up my kindle. BUT I am so happy that I did. The subject the book ended on is a sore point for me. After having went threw this with some family members one of which was my dad it cut me so deep. I was afraid at what way it would be portrayed. BUT I shouldn't of feared a thing. DH had it in the bag from the beginning.

And what she did, showing one side of this EVIL thing that can tear apart family's in the matter of minutes was AMAIZNG. She showed the side of what happen's to the people closet to you. YES what the person is going threw is HORRIFIC and no words can do it justice. BUT people forget that its not only the Sick that are put threw the ringer. The family take the punches right right there with them. She showed this AMAZINGLY!

This book was such a bitter sweet one. I wanted to hate DH so much while reading it. But my heart loves this author so much that I couldn't. I REALLY REALLY wanted to but I couldn't. Even thought parts of this ripped my heart right outta my chest and into millions of little pieces my love for DH just shone threw BECAUSE she no matter what was giving us More Mason and Ava. This was the good bye....There will be no more, and even writing that I'm getting a lump in my throat. I feel like because of how DH created them that I know them, yeah know? Like I'm gonna head down the local the weekend and there gonna be there with waiting open arms.....

This book may have been the end BUT Mason and his Little Warrior will live on forever in the people who LOVE the ground that there fictional feet walk on. This will be a series I will turn to again and again, no matter how much it tears me apart.

And the best way to look at DH is, as I've recently said to her.....She is this Evil Sadistic Mother figure who created Mason and Ava. SO at the end of the day she done what was best for her 'Kids' And I for one am happy that I got to meet them and go along for the ride. After all what A ride it was..... <3

Review - Fortitude (last book in the Heart Of Stone series) by D H Sidebottom

5 freaking massive stars!

Where do I start? In true D H Sidebottom (and The Fox's) style, this book, the last in the Heart Of Stone series, has been incredibly emotive, broaching a subject matter that affects so many people, whether through personal struggles or supporting someone close to them.

From the very first page, I cried. The incredible writing style of this woman, this author, grabbed me from book 1 and hasn't let go and this book was no different.
Fortitude provoked such a roller coaster of emotions that, at times, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to cope...but I did...it grabbed me and simply wouldn't let go.
It left me wanting to tear my hair out at times.

Having always been a Mason fan, I found myself wanting to give him a good kick in the arse. But in true Mason style, he redeems himself. Despite all his sh*t, he is the ultimate alpha - a true dominant who knows that's it's okay to show his emotions, his softer side, when it's called for and above all to be there when he's needed.

Now Ava...I have always had a love/hate relationship with Ava and this book is no different. I understand her motivation but her goodbye letter to Mason slayed me. It ripped my heart out. She deserts her warrior title and hides from the one man, the only man, who knows her....her soulmate.

Kade, who I abhorred in the earlier books has claimed a small place in my heart and I'm not sure whether Ava and Mason would have survived without his no-nonsense approach.

To end, I want to say that you, D H Sidebottom, are a genius! You've wrecked me and built me up again but you are a genius!
I don't know how I'll come to terms with the fact that there will be no more Mason and Ava in my life but knowing that one day, when my memory fades, I'll be able to dip back into your brilliantly, filthy mind by way of this series is somewhat of a comfort.
I want to thank you for tackling a subject matter that has touch me personally and although I found this a very hard book to read, emotionally, I salute you!
Thank you, from the bottom if my heart. x

I don't know where to start, i was so excited for this book to come out, but also so sad that we were saying goodbye to my favorite couple, i knew it was going to be hard to say goodbye, I've always said that reading a new H of S novel was like coming home, and now that its all over I feel like I've left home and am lost and wondering aimlessly around with no home to go to!!

But apart from the sadness of saying goodbye to Mason and Ava, i thought that this ending was beautiful and Dawn I'm so pleased you didn't kill off our Ava, she is one tough cookie and deserved the happy ending she got! I laughed, i cried and i screamed whilst reading this.....so many heart palpitations where i thought id keel over from a heart attack at times, especially with that Rebecca, and I'm sorry to say i still do not like that women!!!

If im honest i feel a little lost now its all over!!! And can guarantee i will be reading them all again consecutively soon and probably again and again and again!!

I love you Dawn!!! So much, your an awe inspiring women who really knows how to write an amazing gut wrenching emotional roller coaster - and i look forward to much much much more of your amazing work!!!

I raise a glass.......TO DAWN and of course to Mason and Ava our favorite couple of all time!!

I have no words... Trying to think of how to write this review, without saying the exact same thing I say every time I write a review for a D H Sidebottom book, you know, wonderful, written beautifully, deliciously erotic, yep, same ol'. I starting crying as I started reading, knowing this book was going to take me to an emotional place, and it did. I have grown to love Mason and Ava, (and Kade, and Nate, and Greg...) and I love reading every tiny tidbit about them I can get my fingers on. Although this book didn't have as much going on as the rest of the books in the series have had, it was so much more. There was a lot more emotion in this story, so it was much more about the family, the couple, then about all the usual "mafia" type stuff that always happens in these books, although I somewhat missed the detailed drama that usually goes into that part of the story, I get that she wanted to make sure that wasn't the focal point of this book, that the cancer, and the fight, and the love was at the forefront of this beautifully written novel. I also have to say, those "scenes", you know the ones, with Kade and Mason, ugh, scorching HOT, yup, yum :P And the costume party "scene", had me in stitches, hilarious! Yep, another great read from the wonderful Sidebottom, with all the usual adjectives to describe the book. :)

This was an amazing book !! Dawn never ever disappoints !! She started this series doing a great job and has grown so much in her writing that words cannot describe just how fantastic this series is!
This final installment of the HOS Series ripped my heart out ... i cried, i cursed and i laughed. I hated Ava and even Mason but then i also fell more in love with him ...and i REALLY REALLY LOVED MASON so to fall in love with him even more ... oh boy im so hooked on that man !!Sorry still hate Ava ... but she is the girl you love to hate .... she is who she is and if you dont like it, f&&& off ... so i guess i'll be f***ing off now !!! I like Kade but he was never my favorite, but this book solidifies him now into my fav category .... i love how he reacted to Ava and helped Mason see the light and get through ...I just love Kade so much now ...
this is definitely a series i will read over and over again
I love how it ended... the very last 3 or 4 pages are my absolute favorite ....
Thank you for Sharing Mr. and Mrs. Fox, and all the family and friends with us .... Im sure you will give us so many more characters to love in your writing carreer but no one will ever come close to being The Foxes

I've got to say that Ava and Mason have fully taken me through so many emotions with this book I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, scream or through my kindle at certain points throughout this book.

It begins with Ava and Mason dealing with the news that Ava has cancer, Mason doesn't want to face it and Ava decides that's she's had enough of everything that's been thrown at her and just wants to accept her fate. This drives a wedge between them and so both fall into old habits for coping... D H Sidebottom describes the way such an illness effects not just the person but the whole family with this news and from my own experience she is spot on.

In true style the book entails a roller coaster of highs and lows. Both Ava and Mason free fall into actions that make no sense but you can understand why they do these things, both need to feel but neither wants to be without the other.

Old faces who we love and hate return, secrets old and new are exposed and can Ava summon the fortitude to slaughter one demon that could take her from her one true love forever?

I am so sad to see the end of this series, Ava and Mason are one of my all time favourite couples. They like to play hard and love fiercely, with added kink, spice and others too!!

well how does one say goodbye.............
no one does it quiet like dh sidebottom!! what a beautiful tortured journey she has taken me on from angel to fortitude ...
this book is how you come full circle round it up end it all loose ends and send them off in style
my heart ached through this book as I knew the closer I got to the end the more I realised I 2 would have yo say goodbye but what a way to say it!!
dawn quiet literally took everything YES I mean EVERYTHING we love about Mason and Ava's story and rolled it in to one beautiful book
everything we love to hate about ava or in my case hate to love
what ate at our souls about mason and dare I say it she who shall not be named( read the book you'll know)
I couldn't put this book down through the tears( some of happiness) the laughter( were your quiet literally sure you'll pee yourself) but most of all the love the soul consuming heart shattering love that we all crave all need but all deserve!!
Ava and Mason aren't perfect but there my kinda perfect
so people buckle up and get ready to say goodbye to Ava's GLORIOUS BASTARD and mason's MONSTER OF FORTITUDE
this is a book that will stay with you for a lifetime

This has got to be my favourite book from the entire series !!! I absolutely loved it and it took a great lot of fortitude to finish it as i really didn't want Ava, Mason and the gangs journey to EVER end !!!! When i started the series there were certain characters that i absolutely hated with a deep ferocity and had no tolerance for whatsoever but, i came to a resolution and showed the endurance to give them the benefit of the doubt. And i'm so glad i did as they earned my respect with avengement !!! This is one series that i could never send for incineration as it was AMAZING !!!
(And yes i know i've not named the books in reading order and even missed a few out but hey, i tried my best) !!!

Ahh..Mason and Ava Fox, right from the first book they gutted us with their love story, but we kept rooting for them and falling more in love with these characters. Now with FORTITUDE, the final conclusion of the Heart of Stone series, we are once again glued to the story. Get ready for another emotional ride when reading this book. My heart was pounding, I was hyperventilating, screaming at my kindle but I was also smiling, laughing and sighing at the beautiful deep love these characters have. I am a huge fan of D H SIDEBOTTOM who is a brilliant author that manages to consume you with her writing . ***** A fantastic Climatic Conclusion to a great addictive series*****

I am devastated, relieved, happy and sad! Reading this book, the last in the series has been a wild ride. A lot of emotional upheaval and made me want to weep especially when the main character is dealing with a devastating illness. It also made me want to skin the skank (Rebecca) alive and do a Lorena Bobbitt on Mason in some parts of the book. An author who can wring a plethora of emotions from the reader, that is what makes her one of my favourite authors of all time. Thank you Dawn, for giving us Mason, Ava, Kade, Courtney, Nate, Rebecca (nah not her... yes I can hold a grudge really) and the rest of the gang. I will miss them a lot. Heart of Stone series makes it to the top of my list.

This series has been amazing. It takes through 20 years of Mason and Ava's life together. (Not an easy life either)
Their love has been put to the test many times over. Drugs, cheating, rape, kidnaping, and death of loved ones, loss of a child and finally cancer.
Mason and Ava are a power couple hell bent on putting their love to the test time and time again.

My heart ached for Mason in this final book. He not only has to deal with the thought that Ava might die, but he has to do it alone. He has to sit back and watch his little warrior self destruct when Ava discovers she has cancer.

D.H. Sidebottom you are simply AMAZING
