Sweet in Silford #8

Alpha's Sunflower Smiles

Rate this book
Are sweet smiles enough to melt this man’s heart?
Wilfred has never needed more than his shop, his crafts and his friends. But when his handsome neighbour starts to take an interest in his business, he can’t help feeling unfamiliar flutters of attraction.

However, Pete is an alpha who keeps buying gifts for omegas. He’ll never be interested in Wilfred. Unless the gifts were an excuse to get close to him.

One of them will need the courage to speak first.

Alpha’s Sunflower Smiles is a fluffy m/m, non-shifter alpha/beta romance. It’s the eighth book in the Sweet in Silford series and is best read in order. It features a protective alpha, a sweet man oblivious to flirting, well-intentioned interference from best friends, unlocked doors, knotting and a guaranteed HEA.

”Warmth bloomed in my chest like a sunflower. Somehow, Pete made me feel so…. desired. I’d never had that before and I really, really like it.”

I highly enjoyed this book! It’s actually my first novel by this author. A sweet low angst Omegaverse book about an Alpha and a Beta falling in love. Although Beta’s are called non-presenting here in this world building.

Wilfred owns a cute shop named Sunflower Smiles, that is his pride and joy. Both he and Pete had no clue about one anothers crush and it absolutely melted my heart. Pete is absolutely smitten with Wilf and knows what he wants, after he finally had the courage to ask him out.

Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a comfy romance novel and Omegaverse!

Rating: 3.6⭐

- Alpha/Beta
- Grumpy/Sunshine
- Omegaverse
- Friends to Lovers
- Found Family
- Oblivious MCs

This was sweet story about two oblivious men who were pining for each other and working across the street from each other. Wilfred is a sweetheart who is way to trusting sometimes, and creates beautiful pieces for his store. Every time Pete would come in to buy something he would swoon a bit but he thought they were for an Omega Pete might be seeing. Pete of course only had eyes for Wilfred and wasn't attracted to Omegas, only Betas. These two had to overcome some confusion on if the other liked them truly, but it was cute watching Pete go all protective over Wilfred. There's also cameos from some of the other couples in this series.

This was an adorable story. We have a broody, grumpy alpha pining for an sweet beta shop owner. I fell in love with Wilfred. His sweet disposition and need to give away his items for free was so heartwarming. I absolutely loved the side-cast in this story. While you don't have to read the other books in the series to understand this story, seeing all the different couples in this book made me want to read the rest of the series.

This is my first book by Hope Bennett and won't be my last.

What a cute, low-angst romance with tons of romantic moments, great friends and a bit clueless MCs.

I've never read anything by the author before but the blurb persuaded me to read something fluffy, cute, omegaverse without Mpreg between the couple, and with HEA. And this is also the first book of many, in the last month, that I actually finished, and quickly!

There's some spice, tons of cuddling, protectiveness and overall a warm atmosphere. I loved the younger alpha MC and the other MC not having a gym bod. ❤️‍🔥

I'm so glad I got to read the ARC. The book is just long/short enough to keep you interested and looking forward to the HEA.

This book is fluffy, sweet and romantic, with likeable MCs who are made for each other.  The narrative proves yet again that communication is key. Pete (an alpha) has liked Wilfred (a non-presenting male) for a long time, but has never had the nerve to ask him out for fear of rejection. He has also assumed that Wilfred was aware of his flirting every time Pete visited his lovely store, and that he has already rejected him. Wilfred, on his part, has been interested in Pete but has given him the same smiles he gives everyone else who walks into his shop. Wilfred assumes no one could like him romantically. To make matters worse for Pete, his father has been trying to match him up to omegas for years, but Pete never had the guts to tell his father he's not attracted to omegas. The romance is slow burn until about the middle of the book, at which point it speeds up exponentially. The book is entertaining and quick to read.
I haven't read the previous books in the series, but I was able to read this as a standalone. I get the feeling that one of the omegas, Alder, was meant to be a beloved character in a previous book, but he grated on my nerves. The rest of the characters were okay.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This cozy (with a touch of spice) read was a marvelous mix between "The Shop Around the Corner" and "Much Ado About Nothing." Secret pining, missed chances at communication, star-crossed crushes, and lots of warm-fuzzy feels!.

As a crafter and professional creator, Wilf is sweet and loves what he does. His warmth draws the reader in, and one can immediately identify with him on a personal level. He simply wants his art to be appreciated, his business to succeed, and to be noticed in a romantic way by a certain Alpha.

Assumptions and lack of honest communication were the name of the game in this story. Pete and Wilf could have had happiness together much faster if they had only opened up to one another sooner. But the missed chances never became overly frustrating to read through because the supporting cast was there to carry them all through.

All in all, this book is a sweet read with enough steam to keep spice flowing. It is recommended that the series be read in order, but it isn't completely necessary.

This is book eight in the author’s Sweet in Silford series and features Pete, an alpha who isn’t interested in a conventional alpha/omega relationship and only wants Wilfred, the sweet, shy man across the street; the older non-presenting male who owns the local gift and craft shop, Sunflower Smiles, and has no idea when someone is interested in him.

There was absolutely zero angst or drama in this sweet, feel good little read and it didn’t take all that long to finish. It’s excellent for when you’re in the mood for something light and a little steamy that you can enjoy without having to really concentrate on a heavy plot or try to keep track of tons of characters. 4 stars!

It was a little slow for me.

As I started reading this story it seemed as though it wasn't moving along. I skimmed a couple of chapters and I was confused with the various people. I had thought that Wilfred was an omega but got confused with non-presenting. Overall, it worked out but some things could've worked out better.

Did I expected to get all the feels while reading this book? No, I did not. Did I felt them anyways and had to even put the book down at times just to bask in said feels? Yes, yes I did

Pete is not your typical alpha. He knows what he wants, but is a lil shy to go get it, especially when he thinks his omega dad might disapprove. But maybe a lil nudge from a hurricane called Alder might be just what he needs to get things going.

Wilfred is a non-presenting guy who smiles brighter than the sun and is all sunshine’s and rainbows and everything good…—according to Pete anyways— He’s a shy lil thing who is so gullible and wholesome, he has a battalion of friends willing to go to the end of the earth for him just to make sure he’s safe.

All the funny moments and chaos they gets in between for these two to meet and fall in love was just so perfect and cute, it was the type of read I was needing!

I loved all the swoon, the squeals, the facepalms and the “awww” moments I had while reading this book, and I cannot wait to delve even more into this amazing series and to see what else Hope can bring to us!

What to expect in this book?
-ABO dynamics
- slow burn until it hits then it’s a fast paced romance
-Fluff romance
-Protective alphas
-meddlesome but wholesome bffs
-steamy moments
-knotting

Wilfred: A non-presenting man in his late 30's, sweet, helpful, generous
Pete: An alpha who's a bit unsure of himself, kind, protective

Sweet and light, Wilfred and Pete's story is a slice of escapism with some delightful light angst and mutual pining. If you like non-shifter omegaverse stories with doting aphas who have maybe just a tiny bit of a self-esteem issue (and a jealous streak, but he's working on that, really!), and a soft sweetheart of a man (who's maybe just a little bit oblivious when it comes to being flirted with), you've come to the right place.

Wilfred and Pete start as nearby business neighbors and their story is cute and uplifting. They're totally sweet on each other in a way that's obvious to everyone else. If only one of them could make a move!

There's a light sprinkling of family drama, just enough to be satisfying and stay on the lighter side of angst.

This is book 8 in the Sweet In Silford series and there's a steady parade of characters from other books making appearances in this one. This is the first Sweet In Silford book I've read, so all the characters were new to me. I had no trouble keeping up with who was who, although I'm sure reading the previous books first would have been advantageous.

Come for the sweetness, stay for the knotty heat. As a light and entertaining read, this definitely hit the mark.

4.25/5 This was a lovely, low-angst story. Wilfred is perfectly clueless, and it was fun to see Pete win him over (with the help of a bunch of nosy friends, lol). I enjoyed seeing a bunch of the Silford couples again and knowing that they were all flourishing in their own ways.

I liked how things resolved with Pete’s family, how Pete was able to channel his protectiveness into doors (lol), and how Wilfred was so genuinely cheerful and creative. It was clear how warm and inviting his shop was and how much everyone connected with him—he just needed to find that special someone as a partner!

I appreciated how Wilfred and Pete had different interests that complemented one another. They’re very sweet together, and I’m glad they got their HEA.

The blurb for this story is somewhat misleading, as I discovered when I read the story. Pete is an accountant, and Wilfred is an arts and crafts shop owner who makes some of his own stock. The blurb suggests that Pete, the alpha, gives out gifts to omegas, kinda like giving candy to children. That is NOT the case. Wilfred is described as a non-presenting man, and it took me almost half the book to understand that it meant, among other things, that he was not an omega of any kind or sort. I spent fully half the book thinking 'non-presenting' had something to do with his omega status. The fact that the blurb uses the descriptor "alpha/beta" to describe his relationship with Pete, and yet the word 'beta' never ONCE appears in the story in reference to Wilfred, should give you some idea of why 'non-presenting' is a problem.

I also have issues with Alder, the omega with the attitude who butts into everyone's business, is abrasive and rude, whom I do not find remotely amusing, although everyone in the book seems to think he's hilarious. Between the intrusion of side characters with nothing much to add to the central plot---and you can include Wilfred's partner Richard in the 'abrasive and rude' category---and Pete's odd relationship with his father and only remaining parent, an omega, I ended dissatisfied with the story. The MCs bumble around until someone has to practically shove them at each other. And when everything seems to be going fine, along comes Dad to throw a spanner in the works. The unnecessary drama was quite preventable if Pete acted more like a man in his forties and less like a man half his age.

So two sweet guys who like each other---well, Wilfred doesn't even realize what his reactions to Pete mean for a while---end up together after a lot of iffing and butting. This is 'slice of life' stuff, without much flavor aside from an interfering parent, an indecisive alpha, and a bunch of side characters, most of whom add nothing to the story.

This was a delightful book with interesting and engaging main characters and cameos from several characters from previous books, especially in the moving scene. Wilfred and Pete are perfect for each other — both are clueless about relationships and really need to ramp up their communication. Both like each other from afar, but neither thinks the other one could be interested in them. With a little push from a friend, they are finally honest and get together to begin to build their forever bond and HEA.
I enjoyed Wilfred’s sunny personality and his enthusiasm for his crafts and people, and would love to visit his shop to see his lovely creations and share a cup of tea. Pete was more reserved and dour, and he isn’t as forceful as alphas usually are, but Wilfred brings out his protective side, and the best in him. Pete doesn’t seem to have a very well-developed sense of humor, but that will sure get a workout if he and Wilf are around Ronnie, Ty and Alder very much. Alder is such a force of nature, he sure has his Alpha wrapped around his little finger, and he quickly does the same with Wilfred and Pete.
The side characters with Ty, Alder and Ronnie had me interested enough in their dynamic to get their book in the series, and the same was true for Waggoner and Liam, just hearing about them. I will definitely be picking up the remaining books to learn more about these fascinating characters in this expanding friend group.
Not a long read but a very enjoyable one, one that had me smiling a lot and laughing out loud, especially at Alder’s antics. If you like light-hearted books with a bit of heat, I would recommend this one for sure, and maybe some of the others if the characters passing through this one catch your fancy as they did mine.

Alpha’s Sunflower Smiles by Hope Bennett is the eighth installment in her Sweet in Silford series, delivering a heartwarming and fluffy romance between an alpha and a non-presenting man who are oblivious to each other's mutual attraction.
Pete Thompson, a socially awkward but romantic alpha accountant, has harbored feelings for Wilfred Smith, the owner of Sunshine Smiles, a quaint gift shop. Despite Pete’s frequent visits and attempts at flirting, Wilfred misinterprets his signals, believing that Pete could never truly want him. Meanwhile, Pete struggles with family pressure, as his father expects him to settle down with an omega—something he has no interest in.
Their slow-burn romance takes a turn when Alder, a bold friend, intervenes, pushing Pete to be honest about his feelings. A heartfelt gift featuring Wilfred’s beloved sunflowers becomes the turning point where Pete confesses his desire to be with him. What follows is a passionate and tender love story filled with supportive friends, cozy moments, and Pete finding the courage to stand up for his wants, even to his father.
This book is perfect for readers who enjoy adorable, clueless characters, playful matchmaking, and a romance built on smiles, warmth, and pure happiness. It’s a feel-good story with plenty of love and laughter along the way!

ALPHA'S SUNFLOWER SMILES is the eighth book in the Sweet in Silford series, and features Pete the Alpha and Wilfred, the non-presenting man. I haven't read the previous books in this series, and although characters from five of the stories are in here, you don't need their tales to enjoy this one.

This is a low angst story, although there are some miscommunications and misunderstandings. In a nice twist though, those are between Pete and his Papa, rather than Pete and Wilfred. The pacing is fast once Pete and Wilfred actually get together, but you have to remember that Pete has been pining for months.

I loved Pete's protectiveness, especially with the doors, and how Wilfred was happy to be the recipient of said protectiveness. So many sweet, cute, and steamy moments between those two. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Alpha's Sunflower Smiles by Hope Bennett is the 8th book in her Sweet in Silford series. The blurb says it can be read as a standalone, but I'd recommend reading the series from book 1. That's what I'm going to do now that I've finished this lovely. Besides. I just have to read Alder's story.
Pete is an alpha who only has eyes for one man, non-presenting Wilford. In a world where alphas usually marry omegas, he doesn't know how to break the news to his papa. Wilfred has watched all his friends find love (another reason I just have to read the earlier books!), and he doesn't think he'll ever find his own.
If our MCs would communicate, things would've gone quicker. And we wouldn't have this absolute gem of a story. It's so sweet and low angst. And awkward as all heck. Pete isn't a confident alpha, but Wilfred brings out all his possessive alpha traits. He also finds himself drawn into Wilfred's very large, very very large and wonderful found family.
A quick and fun read. So little angst, I smiled throughout my reading.

A blending of humor, heat, and heartfelt moments; all rolled together for any reader to discover such a sweet story. A slow burn between alpha Pete and omega Wilfred. Their lives cross, as Fate would have it, as their businesses are across from each other. Pete is an accountant, and Wilfred runs the floral shop "Sunflower Smiles" that personifies his personality. He loves all that his shop revolves around: flowers, pottery, and the ability to know just what item relates to whichever customer is searching for. He is a sweet and giving omega. It is a baffling read in that Wilfred is blind to the efforts Pete puts forth to get his attention. Thankfully, omega Alder catches on to this hidden mutual askance of attraction and goes full bore into helping to get the two connected. Alder and characters from the previous series books make appearances to enable a HEA for Pete and Wilford. It was this reader's pleasure to read this ARC and, thus, this is my honest and voluntary review.

Adorkably sweet MM romance

Wilfred and Pete are in love with each other
They just don't know their feelings are requited
Sigh...
Oblivious. Completely oblivious.

Pete doesn't know how to get his point across to Wilfred. He's pretty sure he is dropping all the right hints, but Wilfred doesn't seem to feel the same. Maybe it is time to step back.

Wilfred has the biggest crush on the Alpha across the way. But he seems to already be taken. He is always in the shop getting gifts and such for whoever it is who holds his heart. It is obviously not him.

Thank goodness for BFFS who don't mind stepping up and taking charge when needed

This was all kinds of sugar sweet -
When they finally do get on the same page - lol
Lots of heat
Little angst

I just fell into the series with Sunflower Smiles, and I can say with 100% certainty I will be going back to book one (These are standalone) to get my weekly sugar fix

“Alpha's Sunflower Smiles” by Hope Bennett is a light and sweet story about two men who are business neighbors and pine after each other. It is the eighth book in the Sweet in Silford series and can be read alone though there are a lot of character cameos from previous books.

I’m thinking that maybe this book and author are not for me. This is the first book I think I have read from this author and I decided to read this since it looked interesting and I like books set in the omegaverse. While it was a light, sweet and quick read I found it rather superficial. There were just a lot of things that felt disconnected and disjointed with character actions and dialogue. Plus, I’m not really a fan of those characters who had cameos.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

I love this series. Every time there is a new book, I just have to go back and reread all the others too, because I want to keep that "awww, so sweet" feeling for as long as possible.
Every time I read a book by this author, I know exactly what I will get - sweet, adorable, quirky characters, a lot of humor and all the fuzzy feelings one can get from such cuteness. Which is why they are my go to reads when I need a pick-me-up.
This one didn't disappoint either. Sweet, funny and so uplifting, I want to stay in the Silford universe for a while longer. So I am going to reread them all again 😄

Omg, this was so sweet to read. This is the first time reading from this author and this series so I’m upset with myself for not knowing about it sooner! Wilfred felt so relatable in that he felt passed over for Omegas while Pete just wants to love someone that he finds and not someone set up date his papa decided to spring on him. There are many other lovable characters in this book that bring the story together. The universe that’s created in this is unique. I don’t know if anyone else has done what this author has done, but this is the first time I’ve gotten to read such a creation. I’m so glad I got the chance to read this and now I have to read the others in the series.

Alpha’s Sunflower Smiles is pure fluff in the best way—sweet, romantic, and feel-good. Pete, a shy alpha, and Wilfred, a non-presenting man, are hopelessly oblivious to each other’s mutual crushes. Cue plenty of awkward flirting, misunderstandings, and eventual swoony confessions.

The slow-burn is adorable, and once things finally click, the romance is tender and passionate. Pete standing up to family expectations was a highlight, as was the cozy, small-town charm. Communication (or the lack of it) drives much of the tension, but the payoff is satisfying.

While I didn’t love all the side characters, this worked well as a standalone. If you enjoy low-angst, soft-hearted romances with clueless MCs and lots of warmth, this is a delightful read!

This was a cute, quick read. It’s the first book of this series that I’ve read, but I didn’t have any problems following the story. Pete and Wilfred have been crushing on each other but didn’t have the courage to go for it until Pete was given a “little” push from Wilfred’s friend Alder (a hilarious, bossy Omega). Once they acknowledged their feelings things moved pretty fast from there. Pete’s dad was a little annoying, but improved at the end. It was sweet to see all of Wilfred’s friends show up to help move Pete’s things to his cottage. I received a copy of this book from GRR and this is my honest opinion.

A wonderful sweet book that left me with the biggest smile on my face. I was having a bad day and read this cute book in one sitting and realized when I had finished it, my day was brighter. A beautiful story of two opposites, Pete (the alpha) and Wilfred (the omega) who are pining for one another but neither has the courage to simply say it. And since they are business neighbors Pete has excuse to keep seeing the clueless Wilfred. A nice blend of romance and spice. I will admit I have not read the other books (but they have been added to my list) and that did not matter as I was still able to love and enjoy the book. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.

I love you, just the way you are. Pete, alpha crushed on Wilfred from a distance. He liked everything he saw about Wilfred. Wilfred, is an older omega who longs for a partner, but thinks he may never get one. Pete's office is across from Wilfred's store. They are cute in their cross purposed daily life. They have personal insecurities that get in their way, but manage to work their communication constraints out. Sweet story, good flow. Pete and Wilfred are likeable men that fit each other's personalities. There is a great friend support system. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Oh my goodness! This was the perfect story I needed to heal my busy brain. I love reading the story of Wilfred and Pete. Hope did an amazing job creating wonderful characters, and a story full of love, understanding, friendship, and yummy alphas. This book was so sweet! Wilfred is such a good hearted and sunny person and he deserves someone who loves him exactly as he is. Pete needs a little bit of a push to finally make his move, but he has been watching Wilfred for a while and desperately wants to be his alpha. He just needs to overcome his awkwardness around him first. This was the first book in this series that I have read so I didn’t know the other players, but I enjoyed this book very much. These two were so perfect and adorable together.

Pete and Wilfred were adorably awkward in the best way. Both a bit focused on their work, their dance between one another in this alpha - omega story was simply fun to read. Wilfred is adorably clueless to the charms of Pete. In fact I laughed so much at how the author finally chose to push these two outside of their zones to realize their affection. Great side characters, sweet and heartfelt moments and lots of possessive alpha vibes. Great read.

magic candle, omega-whipped, sunflower candle holder, the necking workshop, alpha condom, ginger tea, the back door

I love Alder! He's a side character, who is sassy, direct, impatient, and fearless. No fear at all in this omega. Even alphas don't want to cross him!

There's little angst, but a lot of spice in this saccharine nonshifter A/B/O tale. Wilfred is an absolute sweetheart! Pete is the moony alpha who crushes on Wilfred from afar. Curiously, Wilfred also longs for Pete. They assume the other isn't interested. Cue Alder!

I enjoyed myself very much and recommend it!

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
Too sweet for me, maybe? I like a fluffy romance but this was just too shiny and perfect, the exchanges more saccharine than sweet. It just didn’t ring true and made it hard to get invested in Pete and Wilfred’s relationship. There’s also a lot of papa throughout the book, the dynamic between Pete and his father I found grating and problematic- not cute. But, I think this is a good option if you are in he mood to drown in fluffy sweetness with two endearingly infatuated MCs who get the HEA they deserve.
