Erm… the author properly did me dirty with this one.
The start was so slow I honestly thought I might just DNF and go make a cup of tea instead. I wasn’t sure if anything exciting was ever going to happen. But I stuck with it and thank God I did.
Because once it picked up, it really picked up. Easily one of the best books I’ve read this year, and trust me, I’ve powered through loads.
I absolutely adored Victor, Sol, Frid and Tynan. The group dynamic was top-tier and I loved flipping between their past and present. The banter? 10 out of 10. I was properly cackling at points.
Then Alina rocked up. Some mysterious job from the higher-ups, turns out she’s a prisoner, and I just knew things were about to kick off. And oh boy, did they.
But that twist at the end? I did not see that coming. Full-on “wait, WHAT?!” moment. I had to sit there blinking at the page like a confused meerkat. Brilliant.

Zombies and dragons. A combination I didn't know I needed until I read this book!
Tynan is sent on a mission to retrieve a prisoner from a prison that has been overrun with crawlers as they call the zombies in this world. The prisoner is Alina. From the moment they meet there's a lot of pining. I liked the moments where they were on the run and fighting the most. Not knowing whether they were going to get out of a confrontation unscathed definitely had me holding my breath.
Things were going so well for Tynan, Alina, and their group that I naively hoped that the uneasy feeling of dread would not come to fruition. The ending had me gasping for air, and I'll be anxiously awaiting the second part of their story.

This whole book was meh!
A slowly developing plot. A stone cold “romance”. And an entire middle section that repeated the same boring monologue from both main characters.
Not enough information was given to really let me fall into the fantasy.
Lots of the miscommunication trope used in this one. But it wasn’t even miscommunication, it was straight up disinterest. Just when it seemed like someone was going to ask or tell something pertinent, the other would basically shrug, say “ok” and a new chapter with a time jump would happen. Like what?
The ending was almost interesting, but I can’t slog through an entirely new story. Thanks for making an entire read redundant in 5 pages.
Felt very YA, the romance felt stale, the relationships between all the characters was stilted and boring. It took me way too long to read and I skimmed the second half. Just very meh!

This is a fun, fast-paced fantasy that offers plenty of unique elements - dragon shifters and zombies! The found family vibe is warm and genuine and the characters—especially Tynan—are fun. The world-building is imaginative. This is a great escapism romantasy read.
Tynan, in particular, stands out as the most interesting character; his complex nature and the hints of vulnerability are compelling. However, his tendency to simply wander away when challenges arise was frustrating at times and detracted from his potential depth.
I wish the zombie elements had remained as prominent throughout the book, as they were one of its most unique features. Additionally, while the world-building is creative, it sometimes feels a bit shallow.
Overall, Firebond is a fun, engaging read with plenty of memorable moments and unique ideas. It's a worthwhile pick if you're in the mood for something light and adventurous with a twist of the unusual.

I loved the story line, the suspense and the excellent twists especially towards the end of the story.
POV of both Tynan and Alina . The story reads , sometimes, as if told by a storyteller. There is steam to the romance but much later in the story, which I also liked.
The worldbuilding was very good. I could empathize about Tynan's past. Which was revealed slowly throughout the story. The world they lived in and the constant struggle to survive.
I liked the personalities of the motley crew of dragons who followed Tynan. Each brought a different perspective to the story. I also liked the epiphany Tynan had about them and himself.

I am so so mad with Lina for this book (Lina if you see this ILY really but I'm still mad at you haha)
I was obsessed from the start - zombies and dragons with a found family vibe. Some spice and romance. It had it all. Until the end. Why. Why on earth would you do that to me. I am heartbroken. No! Naughty!
I LOVED Tynan and Alina's relationship and how it developed, it was done so naturally and I was hooked. And the fact they are all dragon shifters was awesome.
A little bit of adventure and a sprinkle of politics. Amazing.
Not over that end though. I genuinely threw my kindle across the bed. **sulks until next book**

This was something else, dragons and zombies at the same time. And then make the dragons humans that shapeshift which I felt made them badass!
There is an amazing story here, and I’m sure that upcoming books will elaborate and give us the whole beautiful world. In Firebond we meet Tynan and his crew of dragonborns that during an assignment come across Alina, a frail looking human that is anything but.
There is friendship and romance, tension and banter as well as fighting zombies and zombie dragons…
I really enjoyed the friendships in this group, how they have each others backs unconditionally. And I loved that Alina is not a fragile girl just because she grew up in another place. She is fierce and stubborn and loyal.
I’m not very familiar with world building etc but I could really feel that there is an intricate world and history in this story that will be crucial for the development for the rest of the story.

Zombies and dragons? Need I say more, so unique. As always, Ravenhill’s writing in this book just speaks to me, she has a way with words that makes her books flow and be full of emotion. And some of her sentences really spoke to me, so beautifully heartbreaking and poetic. I enjoyed the found family in this book so much. And the aesthetic was good. Admittedly, the ending was a bit unsatisfactory (in the best and worst way combined), hooking but not my fav, though that may change once the next book is out.

So many unexplained things I still need answers to... how did Alina get where she is will she return? And poor Tynan having to suffer his whole childhood, the only good he found his chosen family and I need more of them too!!
How did this outbreak occur?? I need more!!
I also love how this is separate story of Alina yet also will tie into her previous books I'm sure, I hope!!

Wow! Lina did an amazing job writing this book! I love the MMC Tynan so much! He was dark but kind to those he loves. Alina was perfect! She could have been a bit stronger to have completed Tynan a little better. From the moment Tynan and Alina meet to the very end has you truly questioning what is going to happen next! I don’t want to say to much but the ending will leave you speechless!!! I cannot wait for the next book!

Picture How to Train your Dragon meets The Walking Dead, but they are dragon shifters, not riders! Throw in a dash of enemies to lovers and forced proximity, and that's this book! Oh, and right when you think you'll know how it ends, Lina says, "Hang on, let me switch it up on you!"

WOW! This book has it all romance, adventure, battles, dragons, and zombies!! I'm here for it. Great story didn't want to put it down. Well written easy to follow along. The descriptive writing makes it easy to imagine the world. The characters are interesting and relatable. Was not expecting that ending! Ready for what's next!

Second of all, the twist!! I was loving the development of the relationships in this 1st book ( maybe that should have been a warning. Things were going to smoothly). I got to the last couple of pages, and it took everything in me not to scream and throw my Kindle.

I went in for the dragons, and stayed for the zombies, secrets, and the addictive bond forming between two characters from completely different worlds.
From the moment Tynan’s mission to retrieve a prisoner turned into a battle for survival, I was hooked. Crawlers (undead hordes), collapsing fortresses, a mysterious girl who’s not what she seems… this book throws you headfirst into the chaos, and it does not let up.
Alina is a fantastic protagonist—strong, isolated, and full of inner fire (literally). Being the only dragon shifter raised among humans, she’s thrust into a realm where dragonborns rule… and not everyone is happy to see her. That “chosen one but with trauma” energy? Loved it. Watching her find unlikely allies and the slow, simmering connection with Tynan gave me major found-family and fated-mates vibes.
This book gave me everything I crave in a fantasy YA:
A richly imagined world with dragons, undead monsters, and political intrigue
Romance that builds naturally and burns slow but hot

-I was very intrigued from the start. The plot was interesting and fast paced so I was able to read through it quite quickly. There were some little quirks here and there but nothing too drastic of note.
-I liked the characters. The found family in them was great and I think that may be my favourite aspect of the book overall. Alina felt a bit bland at first but her character did build up as she got more and more comfortable with Tynan and the others. I liked Tynan. He was great. The relationship was cute but once it turned sexual I got kind of uninterested in it.
-I don’t know how I feel about the ending. In a way it was good because the plot definitely twisted and it was so unexpected that I could have almost loved it. But the events of what actually happened was a complete downhill for me. I hated what happened and what that will entail for the sequel.

Enjoyable read!
Really enjoyed the story! I’m not sure how to start. So many things going through my mind! I can say OMG! The. Ending!
😮💨 ok. To start. I was in a reading slump. This made that spark reignite. It was what I needed. I do recommend reading it. It seems to be a great in between. The characters are pretty well written, despite it being fast. The story flows well and quick. While still keeping us informed enough for the plot. It’s not heavy on romance until the main characters get together. The attraction is there though out. The spice is mild and not super detailed.
I had my moments of awwww, of WTF, wait weren’t they?, how?, eeeeeee, thank goodnesses, suspense. It does slow its pace towards the end, action wise. Then BAM the ending!
The side characters were awesome. Sol was silent but memorable. The other two, Edrn and Vic, were like kids! Their banter was cute. I want to say almost annoying but I can’t! It went really well!. They did annoy the group by bickering 😆 But you never know what really hides behind bickering and playful banter.
The Fl iiiiisssss ok. Her actions kinda make sense for being hidden away and all. Her character is definitely still developing. The main lead is cool. He’s very protective of his group and the Fl (of course). But needs to do better with communication. He’s grumpy and serious. The author sheds some light to that. Enough to keep us engaged in the reading. I really like that. It’s almost like the author is teasing us by giving us just enough. I actually have a theory on that. Given how the book ended. BUT it won’t be confirmed until I continue the series.
If my theory is wrong, character placement was a little off at times and a few things were not consistent. Nothing that was a deal breaker for me but may be noticeable.
Over all great read! Forced proximity, one bed, mates.

I found myself grappling with a whirlwind of emotions while reading this book—some elements truly captivated me, yet others didn't fully connect.
The characters, without a doubt, were the shining jewels of this tale. Alina, in particular, stole my heart with her remarkable resilience. Through every challenge she faced, her strength and determination shone brightly, making her a character I couldn't help but root for.
Tynon, our brooding hero, brings a complex depth to the story, complemented by a diverse cast of friends. Frid, the fiercely independent girl with a fiery spirit, adds an intriguing dynamic; Victor, the lovable jokester, brings lightheartedness and laughter; while Sol, the strong and silent type, provides a comforting presence amidst the chaos.
These characters felt like real people to me, I became deeply invested in their journeys.

The characters, without a doubt, were the shining jewels of this tale. Alina, in particular, stole my heart with her remarkable resilience. Through every challenge she faced, her strength and determination shone brightly, making her a character I couldn't help but root for.
Tynon, our brooding hero, brings a complex depth to the story, complemented by a diverse cast of friends. Frid, the fiercely independent girl with a fiery spirit, adds an intriguing dynamic; Victor, the lovable jokester, brings lightheartedness and laughter; while Sol, the strong and silent type, provides a comforting presence amidst the chaos.
These characters felt like real people to me, I became deeply invested in their journeys.

Dragon shifters + zombies + fated mates + lost princess = a helluva adventure
I think that this book was an easy and quick paced read- a good way to start my 2026 book journey! I really didn’t think that I would like it at first because of the zombie aspect, but it didn’t overwhelm the reading experience and I think it was a nice touch. What I will say though is that the scope on this seems quite epic and I wish that it would start to whittle down and show the direction it would flow in. At times I just kept wondering how the characters are going to progress.
The ending for me felt a little rushed and then the very very ending had me absolutely SHOCKED. I was reading and thinking that there was no way that certain things happened and then you reach the end and go, “oh. My. God”.
As I am writing this I am almost to the end of book 2, I think that it is very different from book 1 so far. I will report more on the review for book 2, but as of right now, once I complete book 2 I am not so sure that I will be progressing with the rest of the series. Tynan is on a mission to retrieve a dangerous prisoner, and Alina is the prisoner with secrets. Tynan's job is made more difficult by a walking dead virus that has spread across the kingdom, creating zombies and causing cities to wall themselves in for protection. In addition, Tynan and his friends are the children of rebels and are still paying for their parents' crimes. The question is, how does Alina fit into all of this?
Firebond is Fourth Wing and Game of Thrones meets the zombie apocalypse, then add in romance, and you have a little bit of everything you could possibly want to a fantasy book. There were strong supporting characters that I could see having their own stories to tell, so I hope we continue to see more of them in future books. I enjoyed this book a lot, and I'm excited to see where it is going because there was a twist at the end that I didn't expect. It was a frustrating ending, but I think it could lead to an interesting plot line in book 2. 5 stars!

I hate dragon reads. so it takes alot for me to commit and not bow out early. I was intrigued by the unique world promised and buoyed by the other reviews commenting on the unique world built.
Refreshing is how the Dragons feature in this read likely the main reason my attention was held to the books journey, the Found Family is key feature of this read as the romance is slow burn but peppered with swoony soul bond cookie crumbs as the hidden identity elements unravel. There is even a bonus secondary romance with likeable characters.
Worthy plot twist at the end for readers seeking that reading slump cure, but not a cliffy that slaps you in face......too hard. loved it.

Disappointed with that ending.
This is the second series this week that is using the same formula.
Just why?
Do readers want to re-read a whole book with miner changes.... No! I can't stand repetition. My mind was already following one plot. Reading about the same characters doing things differently and calling it book 2 is not my cup of tea. I rarely ever read a book twice. So from the way this book ended to the reviews for book 2. I won't be reading further.
It is an actual shame though the first 50% of this book was really engaging. A post apocalyptic world with dragons and zombies. The write formula to pull readers in, then the writing style killed it for me.
