I’d really love to find a new release that I am still loving after 80% and isn’t a chore to finish. Is that too much to ask? Apparently. I want to be clear that my 3 stars are for the fuck hot sex scenes 🥵 and the fact these two, Christian and Gibson actually communicated! (I will be referring to Gibson as Gibby in this review because I had to change it as to not think about Mel Gibson while reading this. 😂💀) They had open honest conversations about BDSM, life events and their feelings for each other and I appreciated that so much. Also, loved the Ollie and Drew cameos from book one and the fact there was no 3rd act breakup. I also liked how compared to past books by this author there were very few MF sex scenes. Since a lot of this book takes place in kink clubs, the MF scenes were more happening around them or just suggested rather than me having to cringe through the main characters having on page sex with lots of women. So thanks for that. 🫶🏻
BUT…
I struggled with this book and even though I loved book one in this series, I am not sure this author is for me. This was 442 pages and most were just not necessary. It’s very rare that I say a book is too long or there were too many sex scenes but both were true in this case. The first 15-20% made me fall asleep but because I was buddy reading this I tried again and I loved 20-80% but 80-100% was such a struggle which was surprising because there wasn’t even a 3rd act breakup. I needed something to happen that wasn’t just more sex because 20-80% was alllll the sex. Almost every kind. There were BDSM scenes that had great aftercare with sub and dom-drop that then led into some of the sweetest moments between Christian and Gibby. There was impact play, flogging, ball-gags, cock cages, docking, felching, cockwarming, rough primal forest and rooftop sex, a dick so big it caused injuries multiples times etc etc. This was chock full of every kind of sex I love reading about but for it to just be back to back to back to back sex scenes from 80-95% and in the epilogues!!! was too damn much especially when I wasn’t feeling as obsessed with them as a couple as I did for the first 60%? I believe they really liked to fuck and they came into each others lives at exactly the right time and were what the other one needed but even after finishing the book I’m still not sure I know who Christian is. And there is no way for me to explain that properly unless you read the book. So that brings me to this couple in general. I liked them, they were hot 🥵 but there was something missing for me because when I read book one in this series I also struggled with the last 20% because it draggggged but I loved Drew and Ollie so much that they made up for how badly I wanted their book to end. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here and I spent the last 10%, and especially the epilogues (2) rolling my eyes at the corny af dialogue and simultaneously wishing my eyes would get stuck in that position so I wouldn’t have to keep reading this. I mean was it really necessary in epilogue 2 to have them talk about their dads while they were naked and frotting? Just end the book FFS 🤦🏻♀️
I guess I should mention the wife.🤷🏻♀️ Gibby is married but it’s an open relationship so this technically has no cheating especially because they haven’t been intimate in 21 years. I hated the wife, she was a truly vile character but her involvement with some things brought back the roommate, Silas, and his secret relationship with the Republican Senator from book one. I really felt no sympathy for the senator and it was hard for me to even stomach reading about him when his party is all about getting rid of LGBTQ+ and women’s etc etc rights. I don’t give a fuck if he’s in the closet and in this 2 year relationship because he’s actively voting against what is right so if he is book 4 I will not be picking it up. A lot happens with all these characters in this book and I’ve seen enough especially because of what is going on in the US right now. No thank you. But the wife UGHHH 💀💀💀 I think I was supposed to be moved by her sad backstory but she was such a cunt that I just hated her and I was also super disappointed about how all of that with her and Gibby went down at the end. It was just very anticlimactic and eye roll inducing. For such a cunty character I just expected her to go out like a boss bitch but it crashed and burned and instead we just got more sex scenes 💀
So basically had this been 100 pages shorter then most of the unnecessary sex scenes would have been cut out and it wouldn’t have dragged and I’d probably be giving this 4 stars. But that’s not reality so I’m slapping this with 3 stars instead. Oh and as much as I love Taylor Swift because I do 🫶🏻 Epilogue 2 was just so eye roll inducing. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
The best part of this was reading with my book bestie 🫶🏻💗 We have hive mind when we read and it makes it so fun. The number of times she tells me exactly what I was just thinking or about to say is kind of freaky 🤣 and honestly without her to vent to I would have DNF’d this dramatically around 85%.
Don’t come at me about politics. I’ll probably delete and block you because I’m realllll over it. Just a heads up.

this author’s commitment to having horribly dragging third acts continues😐 like seriously, this whole series is a masterclass on how to fuck up a third act😭
that’s really becoming my main issue with this series. well, aside from the constant inclusion of MF scenes🙄 i will say the MF was much better this time bc it’s mostly off page. but anyway, it’s just torture to finish these books, even if they start out good.
this one started out slow and got way more interesting once they started fucking, which was damn hot, but by the end i was so fed up, i was just like omg not another sex scene pls💀😭 and that’s partly bc the story was DRAGGINGGGG and partly bc i really wasn’t able to connect with christian and gibson. it’s weird bc we get to know all this deep stuff about them and they’re sharing their hurts, traumas, loneliness, etc with each other but i somehow still have no idea who tf they are and their relationship still feels kinda surface level, like all sex. it was really hard to be invested bc i’m like i don’t know these mfs at all, esp christian!! really, truly, idk who tf that man is💀 i had a better grasp on gibson, but still….it’s like we covered the deep stuff, but left out the basics. idk, they were just missing that something to make me care and i can’t explain it. just ended up with a totally meh feeling about them being together.
then, there’s a whole side plot about silas and his republican senator lover and u know what? i just couldn’t give less of a fuck about the woes of a closeted republican senator who publicly condemns everything he is and spews harmful rhetoric and votes against lgbt rights. like did u seriously expect me to give a fuck😒 it was fucked up what marianne was trying to do with the blackmail and her releasing the video at the end. i don’t agree with any of that stuff. i do feel bad for silas, but that’s it.
and the marianne plot was dragged to the very end which irritated me to no end. like i was 80 something percent in and gibson still hadn’t made a concrete move to divorce his wife??? wtf! got christian nervous af about it and ur not even sharing plans fr. like literally 84% in the book and, mind you, gibson has already told christian he’s in love with him, but somehow he’s only just NOW pondering “what if i don’t wanna try again with my wife”🙄 and when gibson FINALLY had the talk with his wife it was at 92%!!! plus it ended up being the weakest and most boring conclusion possible: gibson giving the news he was leaving her and then after a cursory argument and a settlement amount, we pretty much hear nothing more of her. when she was such a fierce, manipulative cunt before. not that i liked her, bc i didn’t, but ugh, i thought she had some fight in her. i mean, on one hand, i’m glad for a quick conclusion bc it means the book’ll be over quicker and that’s necessary af, but on the other hand, it felt so anti-climatic and ill-fitting for her character.
but jesus, all of my goodwill for this book was destroyed in the last third bc it was so overly long and annoying. like knowing there was no third act break up, i thought the author had the third act in the bag rip😭 i’m not kidding when i say it was fucking torture💀💀 and then finding out there’s two epilogues???🫠🫠 like haven’t i suffered enough🙄🤣🤣🤣 thank god i was reading this with my fave buddy reader(🫶✨💓) and we could vent in the chat bc i was so done atp.
and if the next book will be silas and that fucking republican senator who, again, supports anti-lgbt legislation, publicly states marriage is meant for a man and woman for the purpose of procreation, drag queens are indoctrinating our youth, pro book bans, etc etc all while fucking silas secretly and saying he loves him?🙄 oh brother….don’t care!! i absolutely will not be reading it. like seriously, in this climate? no the fuck thank u…..couldn’t think of anything more off-putting🤢🤢….just keep it✋😒 also what fucking more could there possibly need to be said about it…..i feel like i’ve basically read their book already. but if it’s about silas and a different man, i might pick it up if i’m feeling self-destructive💀💀

My reread hit even better the 2nd time around.
Absolutely adore both of these mcs.
I wasn't sure what I was expecting especially since I haven't read the other books in the series.
I wasn't expecting this to be a slow burn but it definitely worked for the couple. I love their flirty banter which might of been my favorite part. Was the spice good? Yes. I love the BDSM aspect of their relationship and how it didn't overshadow their actual connection which I enjoyed since it was more on a emotional level.
But also can we get more books with on page full conversations and dialogue. Communication is HOT & it didn't come short with these two which I greatly appreciated and enjoyed.
Overall I really enjoyed this book 🤎

This was just.... outstanding. It's my first book from the author so I had absolutely no idea what to expect but good god, I did not expect this!!
Although it's book 3 of a series it easily works as a standalone. Yes, the couples from books 1 and 2 appear in this but there's no real spoilers for them. They're already marked as HEA endings so there's no real surprise that they're still together.
Spoiler free review (I won't share more than what's in the blurb) but the relationship between Christian and Gibson is phenomenal. Both not really knowing what a relationship is (for very different reasons), and I found myself rooting for these 2, properly rooting for them to save each other from very early on.
As characters they fascinating. Gibson, completely trapped in a marriage that's nothing like the one he desperately wants. Christian, completely avoiding any form of comfort because his guilt has taken over his entire soul. They find each other when neither except it, and, unknowingly at first, they save each other too.
As well as a stunning emotional side to this book, it's always absolutely crammed with spice, both sex in the conventional sense and BDSM. But (and this is what blew my mind) the BDSM in this never felt it 'dirty'. So many books that feature BDSM make it sound something that's quite sordid. There's nothing wrong with that at all, it's just that this showed me it on a whole new level. And from both Dom & sub POV. What each wanted from it and got out of it. But the BDSM in this doesn't take over, there's a relationship forming in this too and both are aware of it. And from that, you then get the emotional level to it. Honestly, the flow of this is completely flawless. The pace is perfect, the progression of their relationship is absolutely spot-on-perfect without a single thing rushed or dragged out.
I'm a bit blown away by this if I'm honest with you and I don't really think I can find the words to really explain just how much this had me hooked.
As backwards as I am, I'm now off to start book 1 😂 (yes, this was so good that I've bought the first 2 in the series, and the authors entire MM back catalogue. I'm not even kidding and I have the receipt to prove it 😂)
P. S. I do hope Silas gets his book. Again, I haven't read books 1 and 2 yet but I know he's not the MC in those so, fingers crossed, he finds his way back to himself in his own book ❤️

I liked a lot one book from this author and liked, though less, other books, but this one is just not working for me. I read a few pages, get bored and go read something else, I better quit now.
It confirms that sex clubs as a setting are boring to me (though I appreciated that there was a joke here about hiring cleaners for one! It was something I once thought, and then afterwards always wondered about when reading about fictional sex clubs. I mean, how clean are they, how much do the cleaners earn and where do you find those cleaners?)
But it's not just my block with sex clubs as a believable (nevermind romantic) concept, it is more how melodramatic the situation of both MCs seems to be, with the evil manipulative wife, and sadly dead girlfriend way back. And I was not caring or sympathising with the main characters - their chemistry was just not there on the page either, not in any way I can relate to.
Also as an aside, it is clear that the plot of this book is meant to intermesh with the plot of the next book in the series The Liar's Reckoning, which I have not read, but it feels intrusive and again melodramatic.
I might try to finish this one day (more likely not), not rating for now. The author is talented and is writing big books, long and full of plot and drama (and yeah sex, lots of it, though I do not care either way). I admire the ambition and that the books are different and not cookie-cutter, but this book here was not balanced.

But it's not just my block with sex clubs as a believable (nevermind romantic) concept, it is more how melodramatic the situation of both MCs seems to be, with the evil manipulative wife, and sadly dead girlfriend way back. And I was not caring or sympathising with the main characters - their chemistry was just not there on the page either, not in any way I can relate to.
Also as an aside, it is clear that the plot of this book is meant to intermesh with the plot of the next book in the series The Liar's Reckoning, which I have not read, but it feels intrusive and again melodramatic.
I might try to finish this one day (more likely not), not rating for now. The author is talented and is writing big books, long and full of plot and drama (and yeah sex, lots of it, though I do not care either way). I admire the ambition and that the books are different and not cookie-cutter, but this book here was not balanced.

Dearly Beloved, I have to confess. August has broken the mold once again. This right here is what I want when I pick up a book. A book that is so layered and an author that isn’t afraid to venture out of the box, giving us what it should be all about. It’s been a week since I finished reading this book and goosebumps erupt on my skin just thinking about my experience with Christian and Gibson. Because it was an experience. The maturity leave was so damn sexy. The communication is down bad lethal. The title of the book has the word “sanctuary” in it and in all forms this story became my own personal sanctuary that I know I will come back to when needing a safe space.
We have two very independent individuals on the outside but deep at the core very vulnerable ones inside. We get a beautiful story about healing. Desires and needs that progress so beautifully and naturally so as we travel along the characters. And when we encounter it all we all take a calm breath.
If you follow my reviews you know August is an author I would go alongside blindly. I will pick up anything she decides to write. No questions asked. All my needs were met, I came out pampered and cared for. The pace is outstanding, no rushing, no dragging out, the writing is immaculate. You know the feeling while reading you are so aware that an author loved writing a story? This is that book. Infinite/10.

These books continue to be gold. I absolutely loved this one.
We finally get Christian's book - who was one of Drew from the first book's roommates - and it didn't disappoint in the least. I zipped through this so fast, I just couldn't put it down at all.
Gibson was a friend of Christian's father from high school, but Christian's father wasn't really in his life all that much so these two didn't know each other when Christian was growing up at all. Christian has a vague recollection of maybe meeting Gibson one time as a kid, but that was the only time he can remember.
They meet again when he's an adult, when he comes to the city and needs a job, and Gibson was already established as quite wealthy and well to do. And since the living situation with Christian, Drew, Silas and one other guy eventually fell through about two years prior, Christian has been living rent free in a basement apartment in Gibson's building, as Gibson is letting him because he is the son of his old friend.
So they 'know' each other, but only peripherally, only as acquaintances really, for about 11 years. But when too many of Gibson's assistants keep quitting because of his wife, Marianne (who sleeps with them all) and Gibson thinks he should hire a male assistant (because she stays away from all men) so one will actually stay on, Marianne suggests Christian.
And of course, this forced proximity trope works to get these two closer almost immediately, as they spend more time together than they ever have before.
Gibson and his wife, Marianne, are in an open relationship. Hell, they don't even have a relationship themself beyond maybe....their history? A friendship somewhere in there? But Gibson has still been in love with her for decades while she's never been able to move on from her trauma of being gang raped.
Which is the understandable part. Also understandable that she stopped having sex with Gibson after that, for a long time. And that she tried and couldn't do it. All of that is understandable.
Where Marianne loses me, and where she might lose a lot of us, is that she doesn't let Gibson go. Apparently for 10 years of their marriage, they never touched each other, but were monogamous, and Gibson hoped for all those years that eventually Marianne would come back to him, that she'd be ready to try a real relationship again, etc...but then instead she wants an open marriage, and when Gibson wanted instead to get a divorce because he didn't really want an open marriage, she guilted and manipulated him into accepting it.
So for the last 10 years they've had an open marriage, and sometimes he has sex with others, but it's all superficial, doesn't mean anything, more to scratch the itch for sex - after more than 10 years without it - than anything else.
Gibson has more loyalty in his pinky finger than most people have, because he spent 2 decades being pretty much devoted to Marianne while getting nothing in return. Not that she owed him sex, but they were supposed to be in a relationship and they weren't really in one at all. You can't barely have any sort of relationship and expect the other person to be content with that, especially when they've expressed not being content with that. But while Marianne couldn't stand for Gibson to touch her, she found a certain safety being with him anyway.
But it wasn't fair to Gibson, and honestly it's a surprise he lasted as long as he did. But I guess also an immense sense of guilt kept their marriage going longer than it should have as well. It wasn't his fault, but he wasn't on the trip with her when it happened, having stayed back for work or whatever. He's felt guilty ever since, and sometimes Marianne also uses that guilt to manipulate him.
She loses all sympathy with her behavior with things like that. And she can hate all men all she wants, but then going so far as to ruin many of their lives, when they haven't done anything to her, and as far as she knows, hasn't hurt anyone in a physical or abusive way, is too far. She punishes all men for what these group of men did. And lord knows, a majority of men suck ass, but that doesn't justify trying to or succeeding in ruining their lives for what others did to you.
I would understand her going for revenge against the men who did that to her. But men who have done nothing wrong? Nah.
And she especially loses me with her behavior toward Gibson. Trapping him in a basically loveless, cold, nothing marriage because...why? It what, gives her security? Safety? But not enough to trust him to be with her in anyway, even if was romantically but not sexually? Gibson deserves more than that. Because he has misplaced guilt, that he doesn't deserve to feel, because how could he know that would happen? But he because he wasn't there to protect her, he feels like has to be now, all these years later.
But there comes a point when you have to realize you're wasting your life, all for someone else who doesn't even really want you or appreciate you.
Christian is what Gibson deserves, and has needed all these years. Although Christian has his own guilt with his own former romantic partner, Trinity, who had way too much religious guilt to give into truly being with Christian, and died when they were teenagers as a result of it all. Christian has felt guilt because of it for years, because of how she died.
So they both have things to work through, but they also find new life in each other. At first it's just sex - very hot, passionate sex - and some BDSM because Gibson is into it the scene, and Christian likes it because it gets him out of his head, out of the spiraling it can get into when he thinks to hard about everything with Trinity.
They start a just sex, BDSM type thing, but soon enough it becomes more, quickly. But their connection and chemistry is so good that it felt so natural how fast they moved from just sex to so much more.
And it's more than the sex. Although I'm sure that's a plus, it's more about the connection they develop between them, that Gibson and Christian have been craving for so long but have been scared to have, because Gibson thought he still loved his wife, and Christian just never felt that kind of connection with anyone since Trinity and wasn't out looking for it either, thinking he didn't deserve it.
But they get a second chance at love with each other, and it's a great love story. I couldn't get enough of these two, and it was just as strong as the previous two books. Their sex was, of course, off the charts hot and sexy.
This also didn't have that third act break up - i think it even says it doesn't in the beginning of the book - and that was SO refreshing. There honestly would have been no reason for them to, unless Marianne went full blown villain and tried everything to ruin them, but given how much she didn't care about Gibson and whoever he was with, it wouldn't have felt like it made all that much sense for her to fight *that* hard except for her initial negative reaction she has once Gibson ended things. And also because she was considering leaving him as well before she rejected. She didn't really want to stay with him and that became clear pretty quickly.
I do dislike that he and Marianne stayed in contact afterward as friends, because I don't think she deserved even that from him. But even though he wasn't in love with her anymore, he did still love her, so it made sense for Gibson's character that he wouldn't cut off all contact with her her. We - and Christian - can still hate her all we want though lol.
Now I'm definitely curious about Silas, whether his book will be about him and this Senator he was with making their way back to each other or whether Silas will move onto someone else. Either way, I'm intrigued and excited for his book finally.

Oh, how these men hurt my heart and healed it!
Gibson Hayes is a real estate magnate, rich, handsome, and completely devoted to his wife, Marianne, who cannot offer him physical intimacy. In need of a personal assistant, Gibson hires Christian Sands, a doorman at his building and the son of his dead school chum. Christian is living under the weight of his own baggage, and it seems Gibson can offer him the solace he desperately seeks. But the intensity of their connection will challenge everything each man thought they knew about their needs and desires.
My favorite thing about August’s writing is the way she explores her characters’ kinks. Not only what they enjoy, but what purpose it serves for their psyche, and that is very much a part of this story. Gibson and Christian are complex and messy, but they’re ultimately so tender with one another and it just melted me.
It wouldn’t be an August Jones book if the spice wasn’t spicing, and this has possibly my favorite of her scenes and an overall chart topper 🔥🔥🔥 I loved the cameos from the prior books, and the setup for the next one has me HOOKED! If you love high heat and intense hurt/comfort, but haven’t read this series, I don’t know what you’re waiting for! Check CWs as needed.

👏🏽I honestly didn’t think I was going to like this but I stand corrected. I absolutely loved this. Devoured it. And I craved more even as I read the epilogues.
👏🏽The best decision I made with this book was taking a pause after starting it last week, giving myself space to breathe before picking it back up today and let me just say, this was beyond fucking amazing. It was mind blowing and honestly so emotional.
👌This book had me so worked up, to a point where I couldn’t stand hearing about Marianne or see her on scene. I was annoyed on behalf of Gibson. Frustrated on his behalf and hated that he tied himself to someone who didn’t even regard him as anything more than a housemate. It was frustrating seeing him give all his best, reserving his heart for a woman who couldn’t care less about his emotional wellbeing.
🥺Watching Christian suffer through the grief of losing his first love, even after all the years that had passed, seeing him still punish himself for something that was never his fault was so damn heartbreaking. My boy needed so many hugs and affection so badly. It was so heartbreaking to see him deny himself the joy of loving someone else, committing to someone, being happy and finding fulfilment.
🫶🏻These two together, Gibson and Christian were a match made in heaven. The stars knew even before they existed that they were meant to be, they just needed to get past a few hurdles and work through some things. Ultimately, this was such a beautiful love story. Watching Christian unravel completely for Gibson, and in the process healing that pain in his heart and ridding himself of the guilt he’s always carried with him. It was beautiful. Gibson never having to open up to anyone about his suffering and self sacrifice until Christian became a constant in his life. The way he became vulnerable with Christian, with his thoughts, his heart, the things that haunted him, his unhappiness. They were both so fragile, so both delicate but ended up being each other’s saving grace and that made this book worth every minute of it.
🍆To briefly talk about the BDSM aspect of this book. It was well executed. Chef’s kiss, and another major thing I loved was how their entire relationship wasn’t relied or based on the BDSM dynamic. I loved that the more they got to know each other, that aspect of their relationship wasn’t entirely necessary. The Dynamic served its purpose and it was good to see Gibson and Christian be together intimately and sexual outside of that dynamic.
🎀Lastly, the little moments in this book was 🥰🥰. I was happy that we got moments of them being intimate without it being all round sexual. We got moments of them learning about each other, getting to know each other. Moments where they simply existed in each other’s orbit. The romance, walking in the rain while holding hands, hanging out with friends, the rooftop date, eating lunch together. It was well balanced with the amount of smut in the book. And that for me was everything I needed.
🫣This is my first book by this Author, even though this was part of a series it didn’t feel like I missed anything from the previous books in the series because this worked well as a standalone. Given how much I enjoyed this, I am going to binge the other books in the series 😹😹. I am so glad I got to experience Gibson and Christian’s love story. 🥰⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I don’t get the raving reviews
While the story line was good it could’ve been executed so much better. Also the writing is so choppy and convoluted, I had trouble figuring out which character was speaking. I,d have to go back and reread to figure it out. And as far as the Dom goes, he wasn’t really dominant. While there were some good things, I feel this writer has some work to do on her writing style.

Wow, wow, wow. August you’ve done it again! Gibson and Christian are so special, so unique and the way their relationship progressed was perfect given their histories. The chemistry and connection was palpable on each page. From a simple or serious conversation, easy fun banter, sensual kissing, or *bed time*… August makes you feel every ounce of their bond and safety net they find in each other.
Communication is hot, y’all! And boy did they have conversations of all kinds — serious and deep, comedic and teasing, dirty talk, and helping each other through tough life situations they felt buried under.
They became everything to one another and it was beautiful, emotional, HOT, and a love story I want to remember!
Male vulnerability is real and alive in this book! Tears, big emotional bonds are formed, so much casual touching, caressing, hugs. It’s everything! Their relationship is so genuine, open, healthy, hot, and I can’t get enough of them!
Communication is hot, y’all! And boy did they have conversations of all kinds — serious and deep, comedic and teasing, dirty talk, and helping each other through tough life situations they felt buried under.

I’ll read anything August writes. She quickly has become one of my favorite authors. And again, The story of Gibson and Christian was beautiful and sweet.
Gibson is a married billionaire but his marriage is a sham and he is unhappy and lonely. Christian is his doorman and Gibson asks him to be his personal assistant. They quickly become more boss/employee and they develop a deep connection they both didn’t know they needed.
I loved both characters. August has a way of writing special characters and they were no exception. The story was good, but I did feel it suffered a little because of the amount of spice. It lacked angst and depth for me. I was waiting for the drama to kick in but it never really came. Suddenly it was over and we never heard of the wife again. And although I love the spice August comes up with, it felt a little repetitive at times.
Not my favorite of the doormen, but I highly recommend and I can’t wait for what August will publish next!

I'm gonna be honest, I went into this blind😂 I knew it would be about a billionaire boss and his employee but no more than that, so this was a spicy surprise! Lol.

🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🥵🥵🥵🥵 This is pretty much how I would describe this book. Cristian and Gibson forever has my heart! My fav of the entire series so far.
Def one of my favorite age gap.
You never know what’s going on in someone’s life until you look deeper. Having known Gibson for years, Cristian thought he had it all, beautiful wife, a successful business. But things are never what it seemed. Gibson and Cristian got closer when Gibson hired him as his personal assistant and slowly secrets start to spill. Maybe they were very similar after all, broken.
I absolutely adore their many conversations,
The communication is top tier and love that they were always honest and just be there for each other. Heal each other, broken and all. I swooned so hard for them.
And the spice, the spice is spicy. 🥵
Find me another perfect man like Gibson. I’ll wait. (Besides Jonathan from Unbreak Me, of course).

I took a long break between starting this book and finishing it; I really only have vague recollections of the first part. Christian is younger, but not young (30??), Gibson is older (late 40s/early 50s) wealthy, successful, in a sexless, open marriage.
I didn't really get Christian's character, he was still obsessed over a tragedy that happened during high school with a girlfriend who died. He had all this guilt and some religious trauma. But once he and Gibson, get together he gets over it pretty quick. I thought it was a little over the top for decades-long suffering/guilt, to be honest. I can understand a certain amount of guilt, but the prolonged angst and self-flagellation seemed crazy to me. Maybe if he was in his early twenties it would make more sense, but I seem to recall he was thirty.
Gibson was a more fleshed out character, but I didn't love him or anything. Again, a character using a prolonged sense of guilt to dictate decades worth of arrested development, albeit he was clearly being manipulated by his weird wife, whose trauma was depicted strangely.
There was a lot of sex in this book, maybe too much in the sense that sex scenes should theoretically move the story forward, build characterization; just felt it was overkill. They're hot for each other, I get it. Felt a bit like a chore to finish, but I didn't hate it or anything.

It's exhausting. I'm so tired. This book is way too long for the plot it has. It feels like I just read a book about a horrible straight marriage with some gay sex on the side. Seriously, one of the main characters had been obsessed with his wife till the 98% mark or something like that — and even after that she has stayed an important part of his life. Gibson had been pining and whining about his wife endlessly and it's soooo f-ing boring. Both main characters are bland and I couldn't care less about them or their boring relationship and situations. Too much inner monologues instead of plot.

I genuinely have so much to say..this might be my longest review ever, like I'm on my laptop for this, this is serious.
Let's start with Marianna and Avery. They are evil for starters. Open marriage aside. Avery was cheating on her husband but then had the nerve to be all up in arms about her husband cheating on her??? I'm flabbergasted, like I didn't get it at all. Marianne was mean for a reason and she has her trauma that I'm not dismissing but voting for an open marriage was her taking the easy way out. Gibson stopped being her partner a long time ago. She may love him but she really did him so dirty. An open marriage does not make anything better. They should've divorced each other a long time ago. All it takes is one person to detach and that person was Gibson.
Onto Silas and the Republican. LOL babe how are you going against everything the man you love stands for??? That makes no sense to me, I hope theirs is the next book because I need to understand both of them and quickly. Now, am I saying the sex tape deserved to be leaked? No. That's an invasion of privacy and Marianna and Avery a bitter and jealous women. It really makes no sense to me. Avery chickened out in being with a woman the same way her husband chickened out on being with a man. They deserve each other.
Okay onto the actually main characters!
Gibson, my sweet Gibson. He deserved better from Marianne. I really am not knocking her trauma but she was using it to manipulate Gibson in the end and I just don't like her. I just don't see why she wanted to stay married when she doesn't even like men or want to be around them. Gibson deserved to be with Christian the same way she needs to be with Avery.
I feel as though Gibson was more of a soft Dom than a dommy Dom which I honestly really loved about him. They were both honest and open with each other even when they really didn't want to be. They were both crybabies but they were so in love, so I understand.
I think they also trauma bonded and their loneliness brought them together as well. I really didn't understand the whole religious bit on his part but I understood it on Trinity's part.
I do not think Christian was wrong for wanting Gibson to get a divorce. I was on his side for that part. Not even him being the jealous boyfriend, but there was really no reason for Gibson to stay married to her. Gibson was right to move his money around because she is the type to backstab because she's angry.
Christian and Gibson were so sweet, I can't express it enough and they just wanted to be together and be silly together and to give each other what they need. I think I like their story the most after Drew and Oliver. Yes, this story dragged on but I think it was necessary to see Gibson falling out of love and detaching himself from his wife.
I would've liked to read about them being married but their ending was sweet just like them!

August Jones writes stories that are sheer perfection- so difficult to do justice when reviewing because they are so much larger than the sum of their parts. Like this one with its fantastic plot, insanely hot chemistry and k1nk, complex, impactful characters I could instantly invest in and layers of relationship dynamics and growth to navigate.
Christian and Gibson were absolutely stunning as they go from well aquatinted to there’s something here and that clawing pit of lust to you are everything and I can see a better life for myself with you by my side. Watching them navigate their guilt and how they coped with it was heartbreaking but watching them come out the other side was brilliant.
This is such an absolutely fantastically written series, deeply exploring emotion and pain and chemistry and joy and this book was no exception. I really enthusiastically recommend reading it.

I read the first two books in this series and loved them, and this one was no exception! I was tearing up through the whole book, especially the second half. Gibson, during the book, is in a sad and dead marriage with Marriane, who is essentially his high school sweetheart. Christian has his own past love pain, and these two open up to each other and find out there is attraction between them in the process.
I loved how obsessive and also scared these two were about each other. They are solid and rocky at the same time, the way the author weaved them together hit me hard, I was full on weeping at the end! I loved how poignant every conversation was, even when they were uncomfortable opening up, they found comfort in each other.
I loved seeing past characters and am curious about future stories to come from this series. I’m obsessed with this series, and I am excited about what the future could bring. Another fabulously heartbreakingly beautiful book!

You can’t help but love August’s doormen and the men they fall for. Another great one to add to the collection.
Gibson comes with a complicated backstory as he is married but in one of the most unconventional marriages you will encounter. Christian is the son of one of his friends and he has worked for him for some time. In need of a new personal assistant, Gibson’s wife suggests Christian. Christian reluctantly agrees to a trial bases to see if it could work.
It works, a lot of it works, even outside the office (and sometimes even in it as well) and it made for so much delicious spice. August really knows how to bring it and to keep you glued to the page. The slow build up was amazing, the added events with Gibson’s wife and her toys made this an amazing story.

i had a great time reading cristian and gibsons story, both men had their own individual problems which made dealing with a new found connection even harder for these men.
one struggling with his past relationship and stuck in a constant loop of pain and the other living with a wife, both in an arrangement of a open relationship which you come to realise is definitely being pushed from one side of the relationship than the other which made my heart hurt for sweetheart gibson.
i did love both characters, I despised gibsons wife with a passion and i feel she got away with far too much. i am really loving this series, these doormen have caused so many scandals and i live for every single one. shoutout to seeing my babies matty + baby girl fishcer and then olivier and drew! ahhhh i just love these men.

If you've read The Muse's Undoing before you get to The Sinner's Sanctuary, which I really hope you have (it can be read as a standalone, but you'll miss loads of little details scattered throughout the series), you'll know that Gibson owns and runs a kink club in the penthouse of one of his buildings.
Both Gibson and Christian are grieving in their own ways; Gibson, for the kind of relationship he so desperately wants, but can't have while he's trapped in an open marriage with his wife Marianne, and Christian, who is still blaming himself for the death of his girlfriend years before.
When Christian starts working as Gibson's personal assistant (as well as the doorman of The Gramercy), they find in each other everything that was missing and needed for them to finally move on with their grief. I don’t know if I can properly describe just how amazing this story is. Not many authors can handle the difficult relationship struggles in certain relationships, yet August handles all the relationships with ease. Gibson and Christian, Gibson and Marianne, all the way to Christian’s relationship with Silas and Drew, August has created characters that stick with you long after you have finished the story.
Augusts writing just continues to captivate and hit that desire for angst with HEAs and then keeps you salivating for the next story.

Where do I even begin?🫠These two OWNED me from start to finish. The swooniest of the series.
Cristian and his trauma from the past hooked me from the get and the suffering he endures on a daily basis is paralleled with Gibson's. The forced proximity, mystery, SUFFERING, and sinfully delicious spice was in perfect balance throughout the story.
I finished this book in a day and immediately went back to read it again because it was just THAT good. So many highlights - we're taking 400+ - to commemorate the character growth in Gibson and Cristian, their banter, the HOT as sin $ex scenes (August Jones SLAYS), and last but not least - THE COMMUNICAITION. My god do these two communicate openly and it's LETHAL to the heartstrings.

I love August's writing, and the characters and world she creates. It always feels unique to her. These two had loads of chemistry. I struggled a bit with their attachments to the past/the women in their lives but it was a bonding point for them. I deducted a star because I feel like there really isn't much in way of showing/building an emotional connection between them, at least not one that's shown on-page. Their emotional baggage was the only point of emotional intimacy and it fell a little flat for me. Overall it's a good read I just wasn't in love with it.

What a ride. I wanted to hug Gibson throughout the entirety of this book. I won’t spoil anything, but he’s been miserable for far too long and thankfully that changes with Christian. They both have their own burdens and work through them as mature adults do. They communicate well, their growth as characters is great. Overall another great book in this series.
