First time reader of K. Vale and I will definitely be reading more of her work. Double Takes was an endearing, sweet tale of working your way out of a bad situation. Giovanni (Gio) Savale is the lead singer of a rock band that topped the charts in the nineties. After years of drug and alcohol abuse, he is now 40 years old and trying to get his band back on the charts while going through a horrible divorce and custody battle. On top of that, he signs off to do a reality show in order to pay the a ...more

Really engaging story that does not require you to have read Forever Is Now to enjoy this book - although if you have, there is an event I'm sure will be all the more enjoyable.

Ah, the life of a rock star. Everyone thinks it’s nothing but sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

Not for Giovanni Savale.

For the lead singer of Three Deaf Mice, a band that reached its pinnacle in the late nineties, it’s nothing but an ugly divorce with a cus

Giovanni Savale, lead singer of Three Deaf Mice (*giggles* what kind of band name is that?!?!), and Lance Garrett. What a ride! Between an evil, greedy producer, a bitch of an ex-wife, a cute and flamboyant actor/on-screen BF, a sweet 10-year-old son, and ... well, you have to read this book to learn what else but suffice it to say, it's a whopper! Giovanni and Lance definitely had their proverbial hands full in this emotionally charged sequel.

Bottom line: Sweet, sad, and overall very

Not much to say about it. Overall it was perhaps a touch too smooth? First the ex-wife played a bigger role, only then to vanish completely. The drama around Lance came a bit out of left field and on the one hand I was glad that it wasn't drawn out too much or too OTP, on the other hand it was finished a bit too fast? Don't know how to say it differently. It was a nice enough read that I will most probably give this author another try.
I received Double Takes from the author through the Goodreads M/M Romance Group’s Don’t Buy My Love program for an honest review. The story is told in third person through the eyes of Giovanni (Gio) Savale and the last chapter through Lance Garrett’s pov.

First off…LOVE that cover. Grabbed me right from the start and I found myself referring back to it throughout my reading. I think we can all relate to a cover that either drew us in or pushed us away from a book, but this one was spot on.

Poor Gio, this “just about” washed up rock and roller finds himself pushing middle age, in the middle of what looks to be a costly and nasty divorce, fighting for custody of his son, struggling for cash, and forced into a reality TV show that promises to humilia

This is the first book I read by K. Vale, and I really enjoyed it. Her writing style is light and engaging. I was worried when I first started reading because this is the second installment in what seems to be a series of three books, but my worries were pretty much forgotten once I started reading. This story, stands alone pretty well, so no need to worry about that. I also have to

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to read the first book of the series before jumping into this one. The story is pretty much stand alone, but I can't help but feel like I'm missing out. That shall be amended soon.

The book drew me in immediately. Gio is stuck in a hellish cycle of despair. It seemed as though the only people that buzzed around him were the ones who wanted his money or his fame or both. The story begins wit

I have received this book in exchange for an honest review, many thanks to the author for believing in their work and being brave enough to do this.

"Thanks for being you and ...helping me figure out how to be me"

This pretty much sums up a heartwarming story about finding yourself even while your life appears to be a mess.

Gio, guitarist for the world famous band Three Dead Mice, is caught between a rock and a hard place while his ex wife battles for custody of their son and his manager wants to

I love rock star stories, but this one was above and beyond. I was pulled in from the first word and didn't come up for air until I read the very last word. Gio and Lance fit together perfectly and watching them fall for each other despite all the obstacles just made me happy. I'm hoping there's another book in this series.
Chris, the Dalek King
Gio made a bad, no good, absolutely horrible deal, when he agreed to star in a reality show based on him and his band Three Deaf Mice. But no matter what deals he made with the devil his producer Kevin, he made them for a good reason. The best reason: keeping his vindictive ex-wife from taking full custody of their son, Marco. For Marco Gio is willing to shovel a whole lot of shit.

Shit like pretending to date the flamboyant Kyrie so that the show’s ratings don’t tank-–thereby taking Gio’s much n

We quickly met Gio near the end of Forever is Now, and I was instantly intrigued, and when I saw that Double Takes was his story, I was very excited to read more. And you will not have to have read Forever Is Now to enjoy Double Takes, but I would just because it's a great story.

Gio is a pretty much washed up has been of the rock world. Super huge band in the 90's, now his band Three Deaf Mice is pretty much in the twilight of their career, and without the constant touring money isn't flowing li

I liked this book more than the first one. It had me glued to my kindle after the first pages.

Gio, lead singer of the Three Deaf Mice goes through a difficult time in his life. First there is the divorce, which is a nasty one since his ex-wife wants full custody of their son. No way Gio wants to give her that and in order to pay his bills , e.g. his really expensive lawyer, he agreed on beeing part of a reality show….um about him, his band and to put some spice i

NOTE: This book was provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review, through the DBML Program of the M/M Romance Group.

I really enjoyed this story of Gio Savale, aging rock star, who is trying to get partial custody of his son in his divorce from the woman to whom he stayed married for nine years. He's bisexual but has only acted on his desires for a man in the past when he was in active addiction. Now in recovery, and trying his best to be a steady father and to get his band back

I received a copy of this book via Goodreads' Don't Buy My Love program in exchange for an honest review.

Gio Savale is an agin rocker (41 y/o) going through a nasty divorce. His band is working on a come back album, and he's in the midst of a reality show about rockers' real lives. Only, the show is boring. The producers want to cancel, but it would mean Gio losing out on a ton of cash--money he needs to pay for his attorneys and studio time. The show producers think it would be a great idea to

Readers were first introduced to Gio in Forever is Now (in chapter 13). This book can probably be read as a standalone but I wouldn't recommend it since it contains spoilers about Alex and Chance's relationship. This book focuses on his life about a year(?) after opening for Armageddon Showdown. Gio is a forty-one year old man going through a messy divorce, trying to fight for partial custody of his ten year ol

Double Takes is the second book in a series featuring about rock bands by K. Vale. This second story was wonderfully told. It’s a story about a forty-year-old singer by the name of Giovanni “Gio” Savale whose band topped the charts in the nineties. The guys have cleaned up their acts and are now trying to make a comeback and have some small amount of success. Gio is also having to deal with his ex to get joint custody of their young son. She’s making the divorce and custody battle a nasty one. H ...more

Double Takes is Double Good

I don't give 5 stars easily. But Double Takes, the 2nd story in the Shooting Stars series has it all for me. A great story with lots of sex and a HEA. of course there's a little angst in there but there has to be, doesn't there? Even though this is the second in the series, you don't have to have read Forever is Now to follow the story. I do recommend you read it too though. In Double Takes, Gio Savale is the lead singer/guitarist for Three Deaf Mice, a well known if a

I wasn't sure I'd like this from the blurb, but it was very enjoyable. Poor Gio is in a monster rock band whose time has seemed to pass--so much so that he finds himself an extremely unwilling Reality TV star (or wannabee star), he needs the money due to a divorce that's taking half or more of his assets, and the need for big-time legal fees to fight for shared custody of his pre-teen son.

On top of that, his reality show isn't even doing well. His greedy producer forces him to create some gossi

Wow. I really liked the first book, Forever Is Now, but I LOVED this book!!!! This story felt real in many ways. I loved how Gio fought for his son without trying to be a total jerk about it. It was clear in everything he did, Marco was his priority. I loved the connection between Lance and Gio. I loved how there was some minor angst and drama that wasn't overwhelming to the story and resolved quickly (although a longer book would not have been a bad thing). Near the end of the book, I actually ...more

This was my first book my Kimber Vale, I definitely liked her writing style. It was different, and everything wasn't rainbow and peaches. I liked the older guy reality show route she took.

Gio Savale was the lead singer in a 90's rock group who weren't so famous anymore. He basically signed his soul to the devil known as Kevin the producer of the reality show who wanted Gio to do whatever he said. Boo,

This story is about 2 men; Gio, a musician in the middle of a divorce and child custody battle, and Lance, a man who owns a small resale and auction business. Gio is stuck under contract to do a "Reality Show" with his band and unfortunately the producers want less reality. With near-flawless prose that sparkles with wit and heat, the author leads us hand in hand with Gio as he tries to keep his world from completely crashing down around his ears. The author never makes it easy for Gio, and his soul searching to find the real person under all the rock and roll glitter makes him all too human. As Gio sheds his old self for the new, he finds a new love, Lance, but Gio is not the only one who has past mistakes to account for. The author pulls out all the stops as thei ...more

I'm going against the majority on this one ... Perhaps because I jumped into the series in book 2, I didn't instantly fall in like with the characters ... Gio's lack of real introspection about his gay epiphany didn't exactly ring true and I got the feeling that Lance wouldn't have looked twice at Gio if he hadn't been his teenage crush and a star to boot ... Just a meh read for me unfortunately.

A really good book. Nice, sweet, and interesting addition to the series. It can be read as a stand alone, but it's nice to see the characters from the first book get their HEA.

I just wanted a little more development before the end.

More brain candy rock n' roll romance. Like chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, I just keep devouring this series. Gio and Lance are hot and sexy together. Definitely going to read Kyrie's story after this.
