Outnumbered. Outgunned. Out of time.Three scientists were sent to Virginia to investigate how a human settlement has managed to coexist with primals.

Those three scientists have now gone missing. And apparently it’s Lee Harden’s job to find them, get them out, and–most importantly–retrieve their research.

But if Lee has any hope of getting past the huge population of primals in the area, he’s going to have to enlist the help of someone he thought he’d seen the last a human-primal hybrid named Kat.

On paper, it's a quick, in-and-out mission. And Lee, Abe, Marie, Sam, and Jones are not keen on getting involved. The whole thing stinks of intrigue, and frankly, none of them are interested in going into an unknown situation with a hybrid they don’t particularly trust.

Unfortunately, they aren’t given an option. Someone in the Interim American Government is pulling some heavy-duty strings to get them involved in this operation.

When Lee’s team–plus Kat–land in Virginia, they’re quickly swept up in a conflict where their allies might want them dead, and their enemies might be their only chance at survival.

Isolated and cut off from support, Lee and his team race against a ticking clock to uncover the truth about the scientists, what’s so important about their research, and who–if anyone–they can trust.

As the bodies stack up, and a complex web of lies and state secrets begins to unravel, Lee must decide how much the truth is worth to him.

Because it might just cost him everything.

D.J. Molles became a New York Times and USA today bestselling author while working full time as a police officer. He's since traded his badge for a keyboard to produce over 20 titles. When he's not writing, he's taking steps to make his North Carolina property self-sustainable, and training to be at least half as hard to kill as Lee Harden (his most popular protagonist).

Molles also enjoys playing his guitar and drums, drawing, cooking, and “shredding that green pow” on his Onewheel.

This follows Lee Harden and his cohorts on a new mission. These characters have been around awhile now so I feel like I know them. Their mannerisms, speech and actions. When I read a Lee Harden story I feel like I am with my friends, it’s perfection!

This is full of action, especially military combat and at times panic attack inducing. Molles is a master at action sequences! He writes it well and it plays out in my head like a little movie reel. Coyote Song is the story I have been wanting since the series started. It meshed together several pieces that I had suspected could/would happen. The last part of the story is emotional and made me feel like I had been running a marathon and I hadn’t even left the couch!!

The meaning behind the book title is one of my favorite things! It felt so true and genuine! It made me smile AND tear up. Overall this was one of my favorite in The Lee Harden Universe. Definitely recommend if you like action, horror, sci-fi.

I received an ARC for my honest review.

1-This was a surprisingly solid read.
2- The Zombies being zombies were a small part of the read.
3-The characters were nothing new but they did what they had to do.
4-The pacing was tight hardcore.
5-It all felt logical and the future looks like there are going to be many directions the author Molles can go.

I received an “ARC” in exchange for my honest review.

Coyote Song is, in my opinion, DJ’s absolute best work yet. I have always loved DJ’s writing for his ability to keep me glued to a book from start to finish, and Coyote Song not only delivered on that theme, but exceeded it in the best way possible. I didn’t want to put the book down until that final chapter, and then I found myself throwing it across the room out of just pure disbelief. When he said “no one is safe” he absolutely meant that shit. Have a box of Kleenex ready, because folks, you’re going to need them. Coyote Song is truly on a level on its own when it comes to suspense and tension, meaning I spent the whole book holding my breathe in anxious anticipation of what was going to happen next. I have been a DJ Molles and Lee Harden fan since the very beginning, and it is rare that an author is able to keep a story and a character not only going for so long, but THRIVING. The PHENOMENAL character development, the plot that just keeps getting thicker, and the critical thinking that DJ encourages his readers to do has truly put him on a level that other authors can only hope to attain. I absolutely loved this book. It absolutely ruined me, and yet I still absolutely LOVED this book. Well done DJ, well done.

First of all, Mr. Molles owes me three nights sleep, because I couldn’t stop reading. The pacing of the entire book was constant but never overwhelming, and this story was like eating a perfectly grilled steak where every single bite is a pleasure.

We start with the crew in Oregon living in a naturally protected mountain community where they can finally rest and let their guards down. Each member of the team has found a sense of wellbeing after years Oscar Mike. They deserve a break…but do they really want that peace? Lee is feeling the itch to find the edge again, and throughout this book comes to terms with his purpose in life being a man of violence.

A mission comes down the pipe that requires special abilities that no human has, but Kat does. Lee immediately sets out to find her and tracks her down where she is living in the mission community from “Sanctuary,” and after proposing joining his team, Kat immediately agrees. That same itch that Lee feels, Kat does as well, and purpose of action is the only way for them both.

Lee, Abe, Marie, Sam, and Jones set out on a very secret mission that immediately stinks to high heaven, and Kat joins the crew as a wild card. Will she be an asset or a liability? Can the team trust her to keep her primal instincts in check? But most importantly, will she get them all killed or be their savior?

And what on earth is even happening in the settlement of Appommatox? There are rumors of a society involving primal mutants (the world’s newest apex predator), hybrids (human/primal offspring), and humans themselves. Scientists were sent to find out how this settlement has survived and why it even exists, but they have gone dark and the new government ants to know why. So they send the best operators they know to find out…and it almost instantly goes south upon infil.

Their foe is completely unexpected and way better prepared than anyone thought, and the Appommatox situation is the tipping point for how humanity will come out in position in this strange new world. Lee and his team give their all, and we get the deepest and most intimate look yet into the minds of tip-of-the-spear operators finding peace or annihilation within themselves.

The twists and turns in this book are wild, and yet it’s worth every moment of your time. I highly recommend this next chapter in the life and times of Lee and his friends. You won’t believe what happens.

Lee and his team have a new mission that includes a hybrid, part Primal, part human.

Kat is included in this special mission because the team will be investigating a town where Primals and humans live in close proximity without fighting. Lee, Abe, Marie, Sam and Jones, along with Kat have less than a week to find a research team that were sent to the town, Appomattox, Virginia, with the strange living arrangement to see how the inhabitants existed side by side without killing each other. When they get there, something stinks, and it's not the Primals!
I had forgotten how intense the action is when Lee Harden and Abe Larabie are on a mission. Non-stop, all encompassing, bloody and dirty, the action doesn't let up until the last page! It's easy to fall back into the rhythm, reading familiar characters and adjusting to the fast-paced action and catching your breath in the few lulls. The storyline is engrossing. The characters are all go, no stopping and utterly believable. This is a great read!

In Gearhart, Oregon, there's a small community of survivors that Lee, Abe, Marie, Jones and Sam have been staying with for a while. The peaceful serenity is broken when the group gets called away on a mission to Virginia. Three researchers have gone missing in Appomattox, and Lee & company have been tasked with locating and extracting the researchers - and the data they've collected - inside of a week. Knowing they're walking into an area full of primals and hybrids, they employ the help of Kat, a hybrid from California that is now living at an old monastery in Oregon. As soon as their boots hit the ground they realize this will be their most challenging mission yet. Without knowing who to trust, will they be able to complete their mission? This one's a definite do-not-miss! The battle scenes are so good! I laughed, I cried, I almost threw the book across the room!

This book kept me up too late. I found myself thinking about it during the day. It was a great read. This story is a further unfolding of the long tail of Lee Hardin and the team that's developed, at least what's left of them. Molles continues to deepen and expand this universe, surrounding a societies attempt to rebuild after a worldwide virus that turned most humans into racing violent lunatics and started an accelerated mutation/evolution in many, creating hyper aggressive ape-like creatures. Great action sequences and character interactions. The plot in this novel picks back up with some geopolitics that has been dormant for a few volumes. I highly recommend it and can't wait to read the next!

I don't know how DJ Molles can continue to produce such fantastic stories in the Remaining Universe, but he does it every time. And, man oh man, does he take you on a roller coaster ride in this one! Non-stop action, intense fight scenes, blood and gore, and emotional struggles. One thing I loved about this one is that we got to see inside Jonesy's head a lot more. He's such a great character and brings much needed comic relief during the dark, difficult times. I loved it! I also loved seeing Kat work with and become part of Lee's team and hope he adds more hybrids in the future. Looking forward to the next one!

First of all, DJ Molles has quickly become my favorite author, and Lee Hardin and crew my favorite characters. This story is riveting and emotional for fans who have followed this series from the beginning. I have developed a bond with its characters, and could read about them for years and years to come. Packed with action, laugh out loud moments, and nerve racking dread, I could not let go of this story from the second it started, and will likely dive into it again soon. Keep them coming Mr. Molles, your fans will read them!

This book has some of the best action scenes I’ve ever read. My heart was racing, my stomach was clinching and felt shivers down my spine. It’s better than watching a movie. Here is an example: “Sam ripped the blade out of his shoulder and slashed it across the soldier’s face. The well-honed blade sliced into the man’s cheek, rattling across his teeth.” It’s like you are right there in the battle. Then the action slows and the lead character waxes philosophical. I ran the gamut of emotions while reading this book. I even cried. Superb!

one of his best

I love it when an author brings back exciting characters like Lee and Abe. He also brings in Kat a hybrid and rounds out her personality. And of couse let out not forget Sam, the boy he saved in his first novel, The Remaining.
There is plenty action scenes and a few heart stopping moments.
I highly recommend this book. But also urge if you haven’t read The Remaining series to do so.

Amazing

Im blown away continually by this series (universe) of books. Its getting better with each installation contrary to many other series of books. The characters feel like people I know by now after following the series since the start. For this genre of books theres no comparison with anything else, it stands so far above the rest its not even a fair fight.
Keep on writing Mr Molles, I will be waiting for the next one.

His unique ability to weave captivating narratives keeps us hooked, and this series is no exception. Thank you, DJ, for years of unforgettable entertainment—this is truly storytelling at its finest.

If the emotional maturity of The Last of Us had a love child with the ferocity of The Outpost, you'd be blessed with an amazing book. This is that book. Molles continues to write in a brutal sci-fi apocalyptic world where the stakes are always high. He just doesn't miss. Hey, Mr. Bezos, give this guy a team and money to make a show of out this before someone else does.

Lee again

Always happy to read about Lee Harden and the crew. New thoughts and ideas in this one along with some of those emotion things...
Really great story. Not a twist or new spin on things so much as the natural progression of events in a world line this.
Hope there's a next book. Until he's 90.

Gripping. Binge worthy. I read it in a weekend. Molles puts his foot on the gas and never lets up.
Someone goes, someone enters, the makeup of the team shifts. I look forward to what Molles does with the new team, while still grieving a bit. I am very invested in this world and these heroes!

Incredible series with never a pause in the action...The world building is incredible but totally eclipsed by the ongoing character development and the visceral emotional impact. This series is totally addictive and one of my favorites!
