Adriana Paige didn't see her breakup with Alec Graves coming any more than he did, but at the time she couldn't see any other way to stop him from turning into some kind of monster. For weeks now she's been haunted by the worry that she made a terrible mistake, but she's thousands of miles away from Sanctuary now and there's nothing left but to try and soldier on.
Alec Graves had just finished standing off the single most dangerous group of shape shifters in the world when Adri told him she was moving away. He'd always known that being the alpha of his small pack would come with costs, but he never imagined that losing Adri would be one of them. Alec and Adri are two damaged hearts with one thing in common. They would both give almost anything to be free of their pain. They just want to be numb.
Publisher's Note: Readers new to the Reflections series should begin with Broken or Torn, both of which are also by Dean Murray. Numb is preceded by Intrusion and followed by Trapped.
Numb is a 2,500 word young adult paranormal romance short story.
It pains me that i have to rate this book 1 star. okay. I'm getting ahead of myself here. How can you possibly be okay with starting a book that last for 10 minutes max. 13 pages. That's just criminal. With the passion of an enthusiastic reader and aspiring author, This should just be unethical. I understand the qualms of having a long an drawn out book, but I also know how disheartening it can become to be paying for 13 pages. Yea we get it, This is what you do for a living but this is a breaking point. 13 pages for a book. Do better. I was really looking forward to seeing Alec work through his pain. or Brad as you name him. I was really intrigued when i saw Adri's little cameo in the beginning. But you just cut me off. Like an addict feening for her next fix. I'm really disappointed by this.
Deciding what to rate this was actual a bit hard. I went with my higher rating because for what it was it was decent. and I can't lie and say I didn't want more. but it was frustrating because I feel like even the glimpses we got of the characters was not enough
To short!!! The honesty and hope portrayed in these 18 pages was a great read. That being said if I spent money downloading just this story and not the bitten set I would have been pissed.
Again, this should not be labelled volume 5. It should be called 3.75. I sat down to read it thinking it had to be longer than volume 3 because what kind of author charges money for 2 separate stories this short in a row in a series?? Clearly my lesson is learned. I will always check page length before purchasing any books from now on. With this I believe there’s almost more written in the author’s note than there actually is of the story. I loved books 1-3. They were great. Bought volumes 4&5 without paying attention to page length or reviews. Big mistake. Don’t waste your money on this or on volume 4 either. Skip them both. While volume 4 Intrusion took me like 20 minutes to read this one took me 5. That’s like 20 cents per minute I paid to read this book. I feel ripped off. I sat down to eat a snack of 2 cookies and a glass of milk and the snack lasted longer than the book. Ridiculously disappointing. Turns the series from a great read to a disappointment. Almost has me turned off from finishing the series.
Life certainly goes on, but not how you want it to go or plan on it. That's what Alec and Adri find out in this book. And sometimes walking away is the best thing that could have happened to make their relationship stronger!
I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review.
This is a wonderful short story addition to Alec and Adri's story. It fills in some details on both of their sides and you can see just how the break up affects both of them. This is a short story but it still has enough detail to make it feel totally worthwhile whilst reading it.
A brilliant snapshot of the consequences of making a decision and then having doubts or having to deal with that decision.
Even though Numb was more of a short story it was still a good read. Numb answered the question of how the breakup affected both of them. Its in both Alecs' and Adris' point of view. Cant wait to continue reading the series and read more books by Dean Murray.
