T.A. Thornwell is an emerging voice in dark fantasy romance, known for crafting emotionally raw, morally gray stories that straddle the line between heartbreak and obsession. With a background in blue-collar grit and a pen dipped in shadow, Thornwell brings a fresh, unapologetic edge to the indie publishing scene.A lifelong storyteller and fierce advocate for indie authors, Thornwell doesn't shy away from the uncomfortable truths of love, power, or sacrifice. His dark fantasy romance genre debut Under Moonlit Ashes weaves a haunting tale of forbidden love, betrayal, and the cost of defying fate. It is set in the cursed realm of Eldoria; a world as dangerous as it is seductive.Outside of writing, T.A. Thornwell is the founder of Ashen Veil Publishing, a brand built on the belief that authors deserve the spotlight; not influencers, algorithms, or empty industry praise. With a growing community of readers, Thornwell is leading a quiet revolution. One Story, One reader and one brutally honest moment at a time. When not immersed in world-building or breaking readers' hearts, Thornwell can be found working with his hands, thinking ten steps ahead, and refusing to play nice in an industry that's overdue for change.

This debut short story was a mix of battles, magic, friendship, and love. Quick read, with reference to two female warriors who fall in love and an FMC who never gives up hope. Fun fantasy read.

Due to suggestive content in later chapters, recommend to those 16+.

I absolutely loved this book! Now I am not so patiently waiting to see what else this author has in store for both this series, and 2025 in general.
Eldoria has some closed door scenes but overall it is pretty true to the YA genre and low/no spice. The world T.A. Thornwell creates is truly incredible and truth be told, at times I just wanted to curl up and live there.
The characters are comforting and relatable and made me laugh my a$$ off more then once. I would *highly* recommend this to anyone looking to a good fantasy read! Five stars all around! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

**REVEIW AFTER SECOND READ**
OK, so after reading this the second time, I took a deeper look into it.

First of all, there is so much here. If you are really reading this book, like really reading it you will realize that this is a book about fighting the darkness, and how it is a constant battle that never ends. One of my favorite quotes is on page 30 of the paperback edition and said by Elara to Vale: "...you'll inspire others to stand up and fight against the darkness.".

Perhaps it's because I understand the isolation and and darkness that comes with depressive anxiety... but the second time reading through this I just fell harder. I still highly recommend this book. Take it slowly though. Really read it. Take it in and find the deeper meaning. <3

**FIRST READ REVIEW**
I went into this the same way I go into most of my reads -- completely blind. This is my favorite way to go into books because I don't have any expectations. So let's get started.

Level: YA (my suggestion is 15+)
Genre: Urban SciFi Fantasy
LGBTQ+ (closed door)

This is a short fantasy read. I really enjoyed it. You join Vale on her journey to save Eldoria from Malakar. Malakar is a former advisor for the king and wields ancient magic. He sends Vale into future where she meets Serena and Elara. I absolutely adored the love story that is entwined into the story as well, and there were several quotes that I took down to keep as favorites. I can't wait to read the next book to see where the story leads.

The writing style is very clean, and there is a lot of action, but it reads more like a screenplay. Action sequences and battles start and end within a page - all action descriptions and no internal monologue of what characters are experiencing. The plot has a few twists, time travel, vigilante justice, magic and a hint of romance but it’s all show and no tell. Missing the internal thoughts/feelings to get a bit more of the character development as they move through all of the actions, vs just reading from action to action and straight dialogue. If you told me this was a screenplay, likely would have given 4 stars, holding back the fifth as while most of the plot was tight, there is a massive hole on what happened to the future where they sent the villain - so now the future exists until the spell goes wonky and the heroes go back and we wrap stuff up in the past but is the future now lost? Or did we change the space time continuum?! With other threads tied up this one just irked me at the end.
