Mr. Heartbreaker

Rate this book
I made a deal with my brother a long time ago to never date his teammates.

Technically, Rowan Landry, the hot as hell center for the Chicago Falcons, is no longer my brother’s teammate. Or his best friend. Their college days are long behind them, and they barely talk now.

Also, I’m not dating him—we’re just sleeping together. There’s a difference.

Except there’s not a lot of sleeping going on, and neither one of us wants to stop what we’re doing.

It’s all fun and games until my brother is traded to the Falcons, because Rowan doesn’t know I’m the new goalie’s little sister. Oops.

Featuring ~ NHL player, former teammates sister, brother's former teammate, side character cheating, a good amount of steamage, MISCOMMUNICATION

Possible spoilers ahead

Kyleigh (25) & Rowan meet at a wedding, flirt a bit and then head up to his hotel room for what's supposed to be a one night thing. Obviously they can't get enough of each other and go at it so much I was feeling a bit sore for her 😂

Here's the thing ~ I didn't really care for her. Her pants were too much on fire for me ~ when they were on and crumpled on the floor. She knew exactly who he was, but decided to keep a secret for just about the entire book about her being his former teammate, and college bff's, sister. I'm not entirely convinced they're still friends at all since they rarely talk or text.

We know secrets and lies never go well. Can we please just communicate! Please! I think what maybe bugged me the most is that she's super mad that her mom is cheating on her dad, rightfully so, but then thinks it's okay to keep her own secret. A secret we know is going to blow up with a protective brother. Obvi the mom's is worse, but still they're both important secrets. BTW, she lied about her name, too. And the brother's crap went on for too long. Dude, she's 25 and can make her own decisions...on love that is, now the career front is another matter. So yeah, she is 25, but she doesn't really act it. It's been a looooong time since I was 25, so I don't really remember how I acted, but I probably didn't lie.

I won't get into it too much, but Mom was an all around awful character, not just because of her extra curricular activities. Dad was lovely. Kyleigh had a great bff, too.

Now I did like Rowan quite a bit. A really sweet fella, and definitely did not give off heartbreaker vibes as the title says. Maybe we met him in previous books and he was a player 🤷‍♀️ I don't know and I don't care because I loved him now. There's not a whole lot of hockey playing since we're just banging away while we wait for training to begin.

Overall, I did like them together, but I hate that it was based on a lie. Their chemistry was undeniable and the banter was perfect. Shout out to Ruby, the bar owner. Hope she plays a part in the rest of the series that I'll probably listen to since I didn't hate the others that live at The Nest.

Side note ~ Love when characters from their other books pop in to say hello. Also, the brother, Connor, might have made appearances in the Hockey Hotties series since that's about the Florida Fury and that's what team he came from, but I don't know for sure because I only read the first two.

Narration notes:
Duet narration + plus 5 others! Whoop whoop 🙌 They all did great. I could listen to Sean all night long. He really brought some emotion to Rowan when he was talking about his past.

looking for a sweet and spicy hockey rec? throw in some forbidden love and tension because he’s her brother’s friend and teammate? yeah I ate this one up.

I loveeee when books start off with a one night stand, and Rowan and Kyleigh really started off strong. The mistaken identity and tension was delicious.

Rowan is a reformed player and he was down BAD for Kyleigh. The banter was so so good and all the side characters have me so excited for the rest of the series.

🎧 the audiobook was PHENOMENAL. We got a full cast of narrators and duet narration, which is by far my fav way to consume audiobooks and boy did I. I listened to this in one sitting and could not put it down. This was my first audiobook with Sean Masters and he did such a great job with Rowan. And Erin Mallon was such a perfect Kyleigh.

thank you so much Piper & Rayne for the chance to read and listen early! happy release day 💖

Okay, I did not expect to love this hockey romance as much as I did, but WOW!! From the very first chapter, I was totally hooked. The chemistry between Kyleigh and Rowan was fantastic. I loved how they grew as individuals while helping each other heal from past traumas. And let’s not forget the spice—Piper Rayne definitely know how to keep things interesting!

Plus, the banter between the guys at The Nest was hilarious. I’m already dying for their stories next! I also got a kick out of Kyleigh's brother finding out about their romance. That whole scene had me secretly loving the drama, though I was a bit annoyed with how he reacted. But no worries, everything turned out great in the end.

I was super lucky to receive both the audio version and the ebook. And let me just say, the full cast audio made it even better. It really brought all the characters to life.

If you’re a fan of hockey romance, you absolutely need to grab this book and keep an eye out for the rest of the series! It’s a total must-read!

I love sports romance (specifically hockey), and I’m always here for a new series. After reading this first book, I’ll be checking out the others. I’m so curious about the rest of the guys! I enjoyed this a lot, but I didn’t love the secret-keeping throughout most of it, as well as the brother drama that seemed to last too long. However, as a whole, it was a lot of fun! Rowan and Kylie were great.

Mr. Heartbreaker by Piper Rayne

4/5 stars

Mr. Heartbreaker the start of the new The Nest series by Piper Rayne. And those two girls did not disappoint with this gorgeous and addictive book! This book was such a joy to read and I loved every second of it.

Kyleigh and her friend Alara are at a wedding. They are about to leave. Kyleigh just caught her mother cheating on her father a few hours before and she is absolutely gutted. The ladies spot Rowan Landry. A hot and talented hockey player. Kyleigh eyes him as he eyes her back. She hears the voice of her older brother Conor in her ear. Don't date my teammates. But her brother plays for another team so it doesn't technically count. And the pain that is about to overwhelm her makes her brave and she walks into his direction...

She introduces herself as Leigh. She doesn't want him to connect her with her brother. They instantly have this insane chemistry. And they make a pact, this will be one night and night one only. And they absolutely make every second count. And when Rowan wakes up, he feels like shit that she is gone. He pulls himself together and together with his friends and teammates he goes for breakfast. And low and behold who sits there in that same diner.

And that is what kickstarts this story. They enter in this only sex sort of relationship. Which obviously doesn't work. I just loved seeing them fall in love. I loved seeing them evolve.

I adore Kyleigh's character arc. How seeing her mother cheat impacts her hugely. She is lost and trying to find her way. She doesn't believe anymore and is trying to keep her heart out of the relationship with Rowan. I love how she evolves and strengthens herself.

Little Bodhi is by far my favorite character in this book! There is one scene that had me laughing out loud. He has such a great presence amongst all the adults and he is just bloody adorable and perfect. Love him to pieces.

If you are a Piper Rayne fan then you must read this new series of them! And if you love a feel good romance with lots of spice, then give this one a go! I'm sure you will love it.

4 big stars from me for this beauty!

God, she’s ruining me, and I’m just letting her do it, but the last thing I want to do is walk away from this.
𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨: The story follows Kyleigh Nilsen, a wedding dress designer working alongside her mother. She’s in a bit of a "love sucks" funk after walking in on her mom’s affair. While attending a wedding for work, she spots Rowan Landry, a famous hockey player who used to be her brother Connor’s teammate. She’d promised her brother she’d never hook up with one of his teammates, but Rowan isn’t currently on the same team, so she figures it’s fair game. They share a delicious one-night stand, and Kyleigh essentially "dines and dashes". The next morning, they run into each other at a breakfast diner and strike a deal for a "no-strings-attached sex when we are horny" arrangement. Everything works perfectly until Connor is traded to Rowan’s team, and suddenly Kyleigh’s secret arrangement isn’t so simple anymore.

𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨:
I instantly knew I was going to love Mr. Heartbreaker because it featured a full-cast narration with some of my favourite narrators. The FMC was voiced by Erin Mallon, who I ABSOLUTELY ADORE, so I already knew that no matter what the story was, I’d have a great time listening.

I had a couple of issues with Kyleigh. I understood why she lied about who she was when she first met Rowan, but she had so many chances to tell him the truth. The longer she avoided it, the more it frustrated me... especially as their relationship grew. I get that she didn’t want to be seen as Connor Nilson’s baby sister, but her avoidance stretched too far. This pattern also showed up in how she handled her family. She wouldn’t confront her mom about the affair or tell her dad about the affair. It’s a big part of her personality; she’s scared to face conflict and often needs the men in her life, whether Connor or Rowan, to hold her hand through hard situations.

Now, Rowan was an absolute sweetheart. Yes, I got frustrated that he didn’t pick up on some of Kyleigh’s red flags, but what a man he is! I loved how he fell in love with her because she matched his energy, his playfulness, and his flirtiness. They were so compatible in personality and sexually. I also loved that he stood up for Kyleigh and their relationship.

The conflict between Connor and Rowan dragged out far too long. I really disliked Connor in this book! He behaved childishly and refused to give Kyleigh a chance because of some rule he made up. I wanted the conflict resolved earlier so we could see more interaction between Connor, Kyleigh, and Rowan within this story, where they were all on the same side and not just as side characters in the future books.

𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨 and 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙧𝙤 𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨:
▶ Hockey Romance
▶ One Night Stand
▶ Brother's Teammate
▶ Mirror/Reflection Sex
▶ Dressing/Undressing Help
▶ Forbidden Romance
▶ Potato Sack over Shoulder
▶ "More"
▶ Steamy Elevator Time

Despite my frustrations with Kyleigh’s choices and the drawn-out brother conflict, the chemistry between her and Rowan was fantastic, and the emotional payoff was satisfying. And because the narration elevated the entire experience, I enjoyed this! I cannot wait to listen to Mr. Broody and Mr Charming.

Really not that great. They were having sex and then he finds out she lied about her identity and then six days later they’re confessing their love for each other.

The side characters and main characters weren’t interesting or like able (besides Henry) and the plot was super boring. All they did was have sex and then have a relationship. Also the FMC never decides what she wants to do with her life, so idk how she’s making a living (she literally says she’s buying a bar, her brother says that’s crazy, she gets mad because she knows what she’s doing, and then literally gets bored of it two days later).

It was just really bland and boring and nothing was like able or kept your attention.

I really enjoyed this one. Definitely one of the comfy reads. Mr. Heartbreaker is in fact Mr. heart-stealer! I’m in awe of how the author crammed so much into such a short book from swoon-worthy moments to witty sarcasm and emotional depth, it’s all there. If you are looking for something short and sweet this book is the one.

A spicy, flirty, hockey romance.

This story immediately sucked me in. It was kinda funny because I also had a wedding to go to the day I was reading this. Sadly, there was no Rowan there to make the ending as fun as this, but it was still a good time.

I had a great time with the beginning of this romance. The clandestine meeting at a wedding of a mutual acquaintance, though for Kyleigh it's more of an obligation on behalf of her mother. But running into her brother's college teammate, now a player for the Falcons, is just too good of an opportunity to pass up on.

Their chemistry is instant and since Rowan doesn't remember her, she was only a kid when he saw her last, Kyleigh lets the evening end in a One Night Stand. She doesn't think she'll have to see him again and her brother never has to know.

But after their night of mind-blowing sexual chemistry and connection, Rowan is not ready to forget her. Kyleigh thinks she has escaped an awkward morning after encounter, only to run into him at a pancake restaurant a few hours later! Rowan takes this as a sign and soon they are in bed together again. Which leads to more and more. Now she's in too deep and it might be too late to come clean. Which should be fine... until her brother gets traded to the Falcons. Oops!

This had a bit of comedy, wonderful characters, and plenty of hot and heavy moments. I was a little unsatisfied with the length of the secret being kept. It seemed like such a small thing to be made into such a big conflict. There were enough other things to work through and I lost some respect for Kyleigh when she wouldn't just put on her big girl heels and open her mouth.

This was a Full Cast production in Duet Style. Led by Sean Masters & Erin Mallon featuring JF Harding, Connor Crais, Troy Duran, Teddy Hamilton and CJ Bloom. I can't recommend this audio highly enough. Such a great listening experience.

This one had me hooked from the start. Rowan and Kylie start as a hot one night stand at a wedding but quickly realize they can't keep their hands off each other. Things get a bit complicated with Kylie's hidden identity and her promise to her brother that she'd never date one of his teammates. The spice and tension between these two was soo good. I kind of wanted to punch her brother for getting in their way for a bit, but luckily everything works out and they get their HEA.

Rowan and Kylie were so fun to read. I loved all the side characters and the roles they play in their story. Side characters don't always play a huge role, but I love how integrated they all were into the book and the lives of Kylie and Rowan. I love that I'll get to see more of them as the series goes on. I absolutely loved the full cast narration. It elevates any audiobooks and its my favorite way to list to audiobooks. Highly recommend.

“You snuck up on me.” “You did, too. At a time when I didn’t believe in love or forevers."

✨️Let me start by saying that if you are an audiobook person, you should definitely give this a listen! I absolutely loved the ensemble cast of this book! The story had me captivated from the beginning. Kyleigh knew who Rowan was from the start, but Rowan didn't realize who she was. She decided it would be fun to hook up with Mr. Heartbreaker, because she could use a little fun and why not, right? This wasn't an insta love. It was an insta attraction. I loved the chemistry between them. The banter was excellent from the very beginning. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times. I loved all of the side characters, especially the hockey team members who live at the Nest. I can't wait for the next book in the series. We get a little snipit of who is in the next book in the epilogue, and I'm just so excited!

If you love a sports romance, I'd definitely recommend you give this a read.

ARC REVIEW

5/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️

ITS OFFICAL..

Im obsessed with Rowan Landry!! 🔥

Piper did such an amazing job writing this!!! ! I haven’t read a Secret Identity trope in so long and this was SO FREAKING GOOD! I love when I pick up a book and instantly know that I’ll be sitting down for awhile and not putting it down 😂

Rowan has made it on my list of book boyfriends that Im obsessed with. Jeez that man… and that mouth 🫠 I don’t think she could have wrote a more perfect FMC than Kyleigh for him to fall for. They’re such a great match and I found myself giggling so much through out each chapter. I think I highlighted the whole scene of them outside with the fire trucks because I couldn’t stop laughing 😂

Also… be prepared for lots and lots of spice… and even more spice. With a dash of romance 😉 The bathroom scene is HOT 🥵

If you love…

-Secret Identity
-Hockey Romance
-Brothers Friend/ Teammate
-Friends with Benefits
-He Falls First

I don’t understand how this book has so many five star reviews? I feel so betrayed. This was the dumbest thing I have ever read. Kyleigh was fucking unbearable. These two had like two meaningful conversations with each other through 70% of the book and we’re supposed to believe they are now falling for each other?

Rowan just went from ‘I don’t want a relationship’ to ‘I love you’ when he knows literally nothing about this girl? When they confessed their undying love for each other after spending no time doing anything besides sleeping together, I knew that was it for me.

Fair warning, this entire book is just miscommunication and nothing else.

Kyleigh is a fashion designer working with her mother and she's been around hockey all her life because her brother is a professional hockey player. When she encounters a friend of her brother's, hockey center Rowan Landry, he doesn't recognize her and the chemistry is off the charts. Reeling from the shock of seeing her mother cheating earlier that day, Kyleigh initiates a one-night stand with Rowan. The one-night stand turns into a regular sex-only relationship, but both of them catch feelings almost from the beginning. All of which becomes a problem when Kyleigh's brother gets traded to the team that Rowan Landry is on.

Let's get the good parts out of the way. The central relationship is great and the chemistry between the leads clearly comes off the page. The audiobook narration is superb and features a who's who of popular romance narrators in an ensemble cast. I assume each narrator will get a major role as the Nest series continues. The overall setup of the Nest series is also well-established in this first book. I also really liked Rowan as a lead.

My problem with this is Kyleigh, who's meant to be 25. Except a lot of the time she comes off as a lot younger than that (which makes the intense sex scenes a bit uncomfortable to read). That may well be intended as part of her character, as both her mother and brother treat her as a lot younger than 25. She actually reminds them both of her age several times, but frankly, I get why she needs to, as the way she's written, she comes off as very immature. I'll get into why under spoilers (they're relatively mild spoilers):

tl;dr She's staggeringly immature, making weird decisions and preoccupied by a personal life that has more to do with YA drama than the very real difficulty of living as an adult. I found her incredibly frustrating.

I usually like their books, but this one was disappointing. For the entire book, they basically just sleep together. There's no character or relationship development. Kyleigh's mom gaslit her the entire time and her brother got so frustrating. She's a grown adult and he was acting so petty for a long time. I also didn't really see the friendship between Rowan and Conor. There was nothing that showed how they were actually "best friends". The writing itself isn't terrible.

Rowan Landry is known as Mr. Heartbreaker, but Kyleigh knows him best as her brother’s college teammate. It’s been years and Rowan is now playing professionally in Chicago. When he doesn’t recognize Kyleigh, she gives in and decides to have one night of fun. And only gives him the name of Leigh.

Except what was only supposed to be one night turns into more and more nights (and days) of fun. But as the time passes, Kyleigh realizes that she’s running out of time to tell him who she really is. This is such a fun and spicy read, and the chemistry between Rowan and Kyleigh was off the charts!

Their banter was so much fun, and I also loved all of their friends. I’m loving this fun start to this new series! I spy a single dad in my future, and I cannot wait! 😏

🎧: I listened to the audiobook, and it was such a fun time. This was my first audio with Sean Masters, and he did a phenomenal job as heartthrob Rowan, and Erin Mallon, as always, was absolutely delightful as Kyleigh. But peep the graphic, because this duet narration was enhanced by a whole ensemble cast for all of their friends. It was an absolute delight!

SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥

Okay, but first… let me plead with you that if you are able to listen to this on audio… DO IT! it’s full cast narration and it’s everything!

But if you can’t listen, this book is Avery bit as good being eyeball read as well! I love this new series! I’m so hooked on the guys from the NEST and Rowan and Kyleigh started off this series the right way.

🩵 One Night Stand
🩵 Professional Hockey Player
🩵 Teammate’s Sister
🩵 Hidden Identity
🩵 He Falls First

Kyleigh and Rowan’s meet cute was a ton of steamy fun, and I was hooked on them right away. It was meant to be one night, and then it turned into so much more. Only problem… he doesn’t know she is his teammate’s little sister.

This book was swoony, spicy in all the right places and Rowan was a top tier book boyfriend. I loved Kyleighs growth and journey throughout this book and was screaming when her actual identity came out!

The side characters added so much to this story and I need them all! This was a fun, quick read (listen) and I enjoyed every moment of it.

This book had me immediately hooked to the point that I kind of low key wanted to abandon all of my adult responsibilities.

I loved how this book started off with Rowan and Kyleigh meeting at a wedding. Their sexual tension and chemistry was palpable. Kyleigh knew who Rowan was from the moment she spotted him and she went after what she wanted. But she gave Rowan a fake name because she didn't want him to know that she was the little sister of his teammate. They agreed to one night of fun but when Rowan wakes up to an empty bed he realizes he wants more. So when he sees Kyleigh at breakfast, he sees it as his opportunity to ask for me.

I loved every single thing about this book! I loved everything about the plot. It kept me interested and wanting more. But I also truly loved Kyleigh and Rowan. Separately they are both dealing with some trauma and seeking each other to forget and heal. But what ends up happening, is not only do they help each other heal but they also develop this friendship which blossomed into a healthy relationship. But I loved how Kyleigh's brother found out about her with his teammate.

So if you are looking for a hockey romance add this one to your TBR! I promise that you will love this plot, the characters and the world building that sets up the rest of this series!

You should most definitely read this book if you like:

#Review: *Mr. Heartbreaker* - Piper Rayne [18+]

I fell in love with Piper Rayne's books with another series, but I was sure I would also enjoy other kind of books written by them. So I signed up for this one and thanks to Valentine Pr and them, I got the chance to read this e-ARC🩵. Thank you!

Kyleigh is the little sister of Connor, a hockey player, who didn't like his sis to date his fellow teammates. So, this rule has been in stamped Ky's mind for a while, until one night, when she meets Rowan at a wedding. Because she had a pretty bad day, after finding out an awful thing about her mother, Ky decides to go ahead and chase Rowan, even though he was a hockey player. He wasn't teammate with her brother, so where was the harm in that?

So, Ky and Rowan become strangers with benefits, but in order for this to happen, Ky had to tell Rowan a different name, so he wouldn't connect her to her brother. This will only bring her problems, but she is willing to accept them in order to continue this beautiful thing they've started. Of course this couldn't be easy for them and it gets complicated when her brother will actually become Rowan's teammate.

Well, I can tell you that this story had maany steamy scenes, which, I guess, are the main theme of this book. I liked that we had the chance to get to know the characters too, with their faults and strengths. I enjoyed the sweet parts, the funny ones and especially the ones where the other hockey players where present. Both Ky and Rowan had some issues to overcome, which affected them a lot as individuals, but they needed to work them out in order to accept that life isn't always pink.

I'm glad that I got the chance to read the first book of this 'The Nest' series and I'm already super excited about the next book. The ending gave us a little hint about what's going to be about and I really cannot wait🥰.
