Little did I realize when I first started this book I would be grabbed ahold of by the author and not let go till the author was finished with me. The characters in this one have alot of depth given to them that brought them to life so vividly especially with the characters alternating with their first person narratives. This is a story that explores love when two people discover each other with all their obstacles how love conquers all. It takes those obstacles and redefines them if the two rea ...more

Romance is a genre that seems to be dominated by sex. Most books classified as 'romance' use their entire plot to get the main characters to sleep with each other.

T.R. Lykins Last Heartbeat is not like that. And I loved it.

There are some pretty heavy themes throughout this story and Lykins masters them with grace. Terminal illnesses, organ transplants - a lot of authors would show their characters as they battled for their lives. But Lykins' Last Heartbeat doesn't focus on the battle during. It

T. R. Lykins hit one out of the park in her debut novel, Last Heartbeat. This book was not only a beautifully written romance but gripped your heart strings in one of those will-they-ever-get-together type of stories. One thing that stood out most for me as a reader was that Lykins had the POV and voice of the male character down flat...seriously, I found myself wanting Phillip's take on things more than Alexia's and that is a first. She not only wove a heroine that you found yourself rooting fo ...more

Last Heartbeat is a book that will remain with me for a long time. It was a beautiful story filled with so much love, emotional angst, feelings of despair at times, and hopefulness the next, as well as heartache in one form or another. It is written by one chapter being told by Alexia, and the next chapter by Phillip, who are the main characters of the story. This gives the reader insight into what the both of them are thinking, or feeling.

When Alexia was 15 years old she was laying in the hospi

Actual rating 3.5 stars.
A sweet and straight-forward story - not the "complicated romance" type of book that I normally read (you know....betrayal, love triangle...etc). It's a relief that I get to read something that is not focused on sex. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy reading sex-turn-love kind of story. It's just that sometimes you need a break from reading the same thing over and over again.

Last Heartbeat begins with a prologue that indicates Alexia at the verge of dying from a heart disea

5 STARS!!!

Awww...
Ok now that I got that out. Wow... The Last Heartbeat by TR Lykins is the most romantic, heartbreaking, and inspiring novels I have read in a very long time.

Alexia is a 20 year old college freshman. She's starting school so late because 5 years ago she was on her last heartbeat, in desperate need of a heart transplant, literally taking her last breath before being rushed into surgery for a donor heart. She now is living every day to its fullest

A sweet new adult romance told in alternating POV between Alexia and Philip. Alexia tells her story in one chapter, then Philip retells the same story from his point in the next chapter. Their relationship begins with love at first sight and a very intense first week. They have more in common than they realise, but poor communication interferes and leads to misunderstandings. It is all worked out of course, with happy ever afters all around. I found the plot a bit predictable and guessed what wa ...more

I was gifted with a copy of Last Heartbeat to help me create the book trailer for T. R. Lykins. Thanks T. R. Lykins!!

I love romance. When I read a good romance novel it stays with me and lifts my spirits! This book did just that! Alexia & Phillip are beautiful inside and out. I felt protective of them the moment I met each of them, and didn’t want anything to come between their relationship.

Alexia is sweet and has a childlike quality about her but she is definitely not fragile. She lives ev

This was a really good story about a girl and a boy who meet each other by chance and like each other at first sight. They've both had their own personal struggles and neither are sure about getting involved for concern of what the other might think. They're in college and Alexia's roommate Kristen talks her into going to beach parties where her and Phillip keep running into each other. They also have a class together and a mean girl Megan is always showing up trying to come in between them.

This story is very special to me and really hits home. I gave it 5 stars. One of my friends/coworkers is a organ donor, Bonnie Flexon. She donated her kidney to her sister. Her sister was on dialysis for 1 year before receiving Bonnie's kidney. The doctors said ideally it would've been 3 years before she received a cadaver kidney. Both are doing well and it has been 18 years since their surgery. I hope this story makes you realize how special being a organ donor can be and that you will take the ...more

I was gifted this book for an honest review. We've got Alexia that has overcome so much at her young age. Having to deal with a tragic illness can affect you in so many ways. Then she meets Phillip who has lost someone close to him at a young age that has affected to this day. I loved the characters in this book and what they bring to this story. This story is about what two people who love each other will go through and that in the end love will win out. This story was so beautiful and the diff ...more

A very sweet about story about finding love in when you least expect it. Phillip and Alexia’s story had its up and downs but in the end they found their way into each other’s hearts to make the best of a very sad situation. If you are looking for a sweet love story then Alexia and Phillip are it for you.

T.R Lykins did a really great job for her debut novel. Her writing took some getting used to but once you got your flow it was hard to not be invested in the story. I wanted to know what happened

Audible Review: Last Heartbeat on audio is fun and interesting as the Narrator changes her voice to suit the character she's reading to you.
Story Review: Last Heartbeat is an emotional tilt a whirl sweet romance. I was immediately attached to both Alexia and Phillip and felt a kinship to them. Both of their histories remind me of someone I love. It was an instant freeze for me. Either I'm going to love this story or hate it. Well, I absolutely loved it. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. When I first started to listen to it, I was a little unhappy that it was college age as that is not my normal genre. As I listened, I totally got hooked. I loved going back and forth between Alexia and Phillip's points of view. It gives the book a richer quality and is great for character development. It felt like you knew these characters. I also enjoyed learning about organ donation, something I really haven't given a lot o ...more

I thought this book was very interesting since I don't really read many romance books. In this book, I found quite a few typos, and I'm not trying to be completely pessimistic, but they weren't very good for the flow of the book. I also thought that the characters talked rather formally (like they said I will go to the beach... You could change that to something more casual like when people normally talk: I'll go to the beach) But overall the plot was very strong and I loved the background of th ...more

I loved the description of this book. However the book was so much better. This book had my jaw dropping at parts that I wasn't expecting.
I guessed early on what was happening. Usually this puts me off a book but with this book it didn't. It actually made me sit and read this in one sitting.
Alexia and Philip are the two main characters. They've been through a lot but are they willing to go through more heartache to be together?

I'm not gonna give anything away in this review. I just want to say

I was lucky enough to have a chance to read an advanced copy of Last Heartbeat. I really enjoyed the read. Alexia (Love this name!) and Philip each have a very special story and share an incredibly unique bond. Last Heartbeat is an emotion filled ride, and I enjoyed getting to see both characters points of view throughout the course of the book. I also enjoyed the side characters. Philip's friends and Alexia's roommate were great side characters as well. I loved the time that Alexia and Philip s ...more

Overall I think that the author created a beautiful story line. she did a wonderful job bringing her characters to life and turning a tragic event into a beautiful love story. My only complaint was the dual point of views, while I do typically enjoy getting both points of view, I was not particularly fond of how it was done so in this book, I felt like a lot of time was wasted completely retelling almost every single scene in both of their perspectives. It was a beautiful love story, I just thin ...more

Wow!!! I loved this story. From the beginning to the end it will keep you entertained. The characters both have had tragedy in the past and they have to overcome the past to finally coming together. It reminds me that love at first sight can happen and the storyline is unique. There isn't many stories about this subject manor out there. It is fresh and new kind of story that will have you cheering for these characters until the end. Even the ending has another twist you will not see coming. Love ...more

What a wonderful love story. You will fall in love with Phillip and Alexia just as I did. They fall quickly and they fall hard. But there are obstacles to overcome before they reach their forever. Have the tissues ready as many tears can be shed. This was the first book I have read by T.R.Lykins but certainly not the last.

♥♥♥♥ A beautiful story of how you suffer through your life and then meet someone that turns it around.

This author has created a book, that is easy to read, has life like situations and a plot that you can follow.

Considering this is a debut book, it is very well written ♥♥♥♥

This was a sweet romance. I loved it from the beginning to the end. I had a hard time putting it down. Both characters in the story have had a hard past to deal with. They are both struggling to move forward. I am looking forward to reading The Life Gift.
