I listened to this on audio, and phewww it did not disappoint! If you’re looking for a quick, spicy dark shifter romance this is the one!

When she makes an agreement with her soon to be alpha that he’ll be the one to claim her only to smell her actual mate during their hunt she gets a rude awakening when it turns out that her mate is the king and he does not share! She is desperate to stay with her current pack to uncover the truth of what happened to her mother who died during childbirth and who her father is. This fiery FMC is not willing to accept a mate bond that will take her away from being able to uncover these truths. However, on the brink of war with the vampires accepting this mate bond may be what she needs to keep her safe, or it may make her an even bigger target

This book had me feral, the audio was absolutely everything!! The ending was absolutely diabolical however, but thank goodness the next book is out

This review is so sad to give, as the book had soooo much promise and the plot was amazing.

Spoilers ahead!!!!

Loved the book, the guy, but the heroine is a 0/10. She is stupid (what is worse than stupid? She is that) she is spoiled, acts like a child not like an adult least of all a queen and has literally no brains at all. Her decision making makes no sense and is super dumb, she has no reasons for acting the way she does and doing the things she does, honestly it is overall impossible to enjoy the book because she is in it.

It almost felt like she was this stupid just to keep the book going and to have a reason for the plot to continue…anyway..unfortunately don’t recommend.

After years of waiting for his fated mate, Dax smells her during the annual Hunt, but even if Alaina cannot deny the truth, she finds hard to accept him, because accepting Dax as mate will mean severing the only tie she has from finding more about her mother.

//

The book per se was ok, the audio version tho... 🫠🔥🫠🔥🫠🔥 1000000/10 I was speechless, the performance was everything.

The story was interesting, or at least it was in the end where actually *something* finally happened, I'm not sure for the rest of the book, the time-continuity was confusing, seems that what happened in barely days it says that happened in weeks? Would have loved a little more care and editing for this.

The characters meh..
Dax was this big bad grumpy morally black Alpha that happened to kill and maim and torture basically whomever he wanted, I lost count of how many he killed, not all of them were necessary and it became boring after a while.
As for Alaina.. I get her reluctance towards basically everything and I'm blaming the lack of communications between them, that was a HUGE problem throughout the whole book (they finally have a conversation at 95% I think it was the last/second to last chapter), so.. she was bratty, elusive, rebellious and childish, not a great combination and not really a combination that I particularly love.

I'm gonna continue this just bc the plot was becoming interesting since we're close to discover who Alaina's father is (I have a hint lol it is pretty obvious) and even tho is a pretty mediocre read the audiobook is to die for 🛐🛐

I went into this just looking for a good time. This was honestly like…awful? lol. I had so many issues with it, way, wayyyy too quick and way too much smut. After I finished (begrudgingly) I felt so gross. 😂 I don’t even know what this was, after reading amazing storylines and world building in other books, this was extremely minuscule. I was TRYING something different but honestly this was not the vibe I wanted. I finished it to say I did..the MFC was kinda lame and weak in my opinion and the MMC was just equally as awful in so, SOOO many ways. I am looking for another series to read already 1/5 solely because listening to smut in general is always fun but this book….not fun, combined with the poor storyline & writing in general just overwhelmed my senses. So many plot holes and then the random modern metaphors were so weird when they were supposed to be wolves/vampires which I wanted more lore for, but I digress 🫣🫣

Oof that really blows. 👏🏻PAY ATTENTION TO THOSE NEGATIVE REVIEW FOLKS 👏🏻 They paint a picture way better than the blanket 5 star ARC reviews. Is it really a lesson learned when you keep making the same mistake over and over and over again? 🤦‍♀️

Lesson ❌ F A I L E D

I thought I finally found a book with an adult woman of the “Other” verity (I.e. anything but human). These books are starting to be extremely hard to find nowadays, especially in this particular genre 💔

What’s even more damn near impossible to find is an adult woman of the Other kinds (any “other” really, or anything BUT human) who is also… you know.. competent? Relatable? Someone that deserves the role the story needs her to fill and not the role the author deems she gets because she’s special{-ly stupid/spoiled/little brat}?

Yah Yah, all those things.

Come For Me is the book that pulled me back into reading. The chemistry and tension had me hooked, and the pacing kept me flying through it. It gave me that rare “can’t put it down” feeling and set the bar way too high for everything I picked up after. The audio was unmatched. Joe Arden and Andi Eloise were pure perfection!

Did I read the same book as everyone else? Genuinely, how did this get such good reviews? It read like a bad, barely edited Wattpad story. I didn’t get any sense of actual mate-ness between the two of them, let alone a chance they would grow to care for each other. I just don’t get it.

Why was that good?! That cliffhanger. But also what is with these FMC's constantly questioning if the MMC has feeling? He waiting SEVEN years for you. Complete shot in the dark as a suggestion from Audibles Plus catalog. The audiobook performance was 100% worth the listen. It keeps the momentum the entire time. Definitely it is more of a listen compared to read since the writing style is not complex.

Dax is the type of man I want to read in dark romance. He is sickly twisted, no doubt about it alpha, yet still has a heart. Multi-layered overly possessive shifter man and add in a love triangle while we are at it to really assert that dominance. There is a genre pattern I notice where sometimes the dialogue gets distasteful. Not the case here. If anything Alaina comes off as whiney. Definitely will be going to book two.

I wanted to like this book, I really did.

I have no words. I really wanted to like this book. I gave it two stars as I commend the author for sharing her story with readers. It takes a lot of work and dedication.

There are times when I love an aggressive, assertive female who doesn't take BS from anyone, but Alaina is so immature and annoying. It was hard to like her. She was a poor representation of the one to be queen. Dax is much more likable. At least he was consistent in his affections for her and wasn't all over the place and indecisive.

Unfortunately, I will not be continuing this series. I don't see how Alaina will get any better. It's hard to like a book when one of the main characters is just so unlikable.

2⭐️ was this the worst thing I’ve read? No. But certainly farrrrr from the best. A few things I did enjoy was some of the traits the MMC had. He was possessive, he said the right things during spice, and was the powerful broody king, which I really did enjoy. But the werewolf aspect and plot was not good at all. Corny, lame, and would have been better without it, to be completely honest. I also didn’t care much for the FMC, she just didn’t stand out. I listened to this on audio and Joe Arden made it as good as it was, and there was some points where it grabbed my attention and was pretty entertaining. Wasn’t all that great, will not be continuing this series.

"Come for Me" by C.J. Sweet really falls flat. It's a shifter romance book with darker undertones regarding control and submission, but it's not fully a dark romance. There are large gaps in the storyline, especially when it comes to the amount of time passed. Events will happen that are seemingly close in time to one another, and the author talks like days or even weeks have passed. There were several times that I looked back a chapter or two to make sure I hadn't missed anything. When it was clear I hadn't missed anything, I was even more confused as to why the author was making it seem like the chain of events took part over a longer period of time. The relationships that form between characters also seem to come out of nowhere and nothing. They've barely spent any time together and then all of a sudden there's banter and a deeper connection and relationship than could have possibly formed in such a short amount of time.
The only reason that I didn't DNF this book was because the smut was pretty great. The FMC and MMC go at it like rabbits and they're pretty freaky. They start banging one another pretty much upon meeting for the first time (it's a shifter thing, I guess) and things only escalate from there. The spice was the only reason I stuck around and the only reason that this is getting a star at all in terms of rating. This was the first in a series of books (that I don't believe is completed) and I won't be reading any more of them. The book ends on a cliffhanger, but I honestly can't be bothered to care about what happens next.

Meoooowwwww I was entirely feral for this book. Finished it like a shot. Not much happened... it was basically a push and pull dynamic between the main characters where she was the bratty idiot and he fucked the nonsense out of her. Nevertheless, I ate it up.

I received this book as an ARC and really I really enjoyed it. A lot of it was world building and relationship development, which is totally expected for series debut. C.J. does well to make it interesting still though so that the readers stay engaged. In addition to the world building, the spice in this book is next tier. Like, seriously Holy Spice! (Remember to check your trigger warnings) This book was as fiery as its main character’s defiance. Speaking of the main character, I really wanted to like Alaina but at every turn she just acted so childish and selfish. I get wanting to know about your parents when you’ve never met your dad and your mom passed during birth, but why would you intentionally hurt your mate just because?! I wanted to throw my Kindle at her. Meanwhile, Dax’s behavior just shows how much his mate means to him and how far he would go to protect her, even when she was being a brat. But then as soon as she realizes the errors in her ways, that ending occurs…my poor heart 💔 C.J. warns us in the dedication that it is for readers that beg for her to f*ck with our feelings and believe me, she delivers on that promise!! I need Part 2 STAT! My brain is already going 100 miles a minute to figure out which of my least favorite characters could possibly be to blame (surely it’s one of them, right?) and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

yall , THE WAY I FUCKING FELL to my knees for daddy Dax 🧎🏻‍♀️😩. Finished this book in less than a day total because I couldn’t stop reading it. I was sucked into the story and needed to know what happened next. Alaina and Dax really are amazing together even though Alaina is a stubborn brat ! ( Dax knows how name ya girl ) 😉 this book had my giggling and kicking my feet . The spice in this book tho 🥵 I’ve never wanted to be dominated so much ever in my life than I did while reading this book. Also don’t forget the banter it’s top tier lol I couldn’t stop laughing at Sam and Alaina’s relationship 😂CJ really had me in a choke hold and I’m so excited to see what happened in book 2.

Alright- TikTok has once again done me dirty. I really need to stop listening to them when it comes to this stuff.

Starting this off with I haven't read part 2 yet. Which, yes, this is only part 1. There is a part 2. Under the same exact name, no other distinguishing factors. Even the blurbs are the same! Which is actually insane in my opinion! I do have part 2 on my kindle. I listened to part 1 over on audible but I won't be spending another credit on part 2. As much as I love Joe and Andi, I just can't listen to this. A brief nod to their voice work though. They did wonderful. I do need Joe to stop sniffing us so aggressively though, that was a lot.

But onto the actual book.

I don't know if anyone else was on Wattpad when this style of book was the only thing being written across that site but I was sure there. The whole Luna and Moon Goddess situations are so.. outlandish and juvenile to me. Maybe it's because I associate those general aspects with a very specific subgenre that was primarily written by teenagers on a site that doesn't host the best quality of content. I'm not sure but it really takes me out of the whole "these characters are supposed to be grown" when they're going around saying the silliest of things. It's just one of my biggest icks in this subgenre. It feels so lazy and unoriginal because everyone did it for years on that site and now it's translated into novels. It just feels like this was plucked from any old Wattpad account and thrown together to be bound.

Speaking on the characters a bit more, these do not sound like real people. Not a single thing I heard them say sounded remotely believable, even if you're trying to put yourself in their world. It was just so over the top I had to check that I wasn't reading a parody of some sort. I think I've said before in a review, shifter and paranormal romance is MY JAM. I do not WANT these reads to be bad. I WANT to like them. This was just genuinely atrocious but in a train wreck you can't look away from sort of deal. Like it was so bad it was funny? So good job? I think? I was definitely entertained but not for the best reasons. The dialogue was just.. so bad. It felt incredibly phoned in and just a means to get to the next spicy scene or half-baked plotline.

My biggest gripe (aside from the overly edgy psychotic werewolf king which is probably the funniest thing I have read all year) is how truly awful the FMC is. I know that others have mentioned it in their reviews, even higher rated ones. She is just absolutely insufferable. She spends so much time talking about how special the mate bond is, how important finding your mate is, and when she does find him, she dangles said bond over him out of spite? Because he's not from her original pack? Girl, he's the king of werewolves, you think he doesn't have the power to unearth some stuff about your past? That's just being awful to be awful. ESPECIALLY knowing that it weakens him. I'm not usually one to defend the walking red flag but there's a first time for everything.

Every subplot was such a nonissue the entire book. Again, I haven't read part 2 yet. I will be reading it later. But as of right now, everything mentioned was solved so quickly or was pushed into the background that it was forgettable. Even the very end with the cliffhanger I imagine that will be solved incredibly quickly (given that Dax decapitated someone just because they irritated him? I figure this is getting resolved quickly so we can get onto babies and wedding bells and more mediocre smut).

Which is what it was. Incredibly mediocre sex scenes that left me incredibly bored and not at all interested in these two characters. Granted, I wasn't keen on Dax to begin with given his blatant misogyny as displayed with his previous sexual partners. THAT was just gross to a whole new degree. Way to get me to hate a male character before I even really got to know him.

"Well Amber why are you reading part 2 then?" Because I have a horrible relationship with being able to DNF books or series. Once I start something, unless there's just something I cannot get over, I have to finish the series. At the very least, I'll be getting over the hump that is this cliffhanger. If part 2 doesn't end how part 1 did, I'll likely be done after this. I'm just not invested. This is a bad wreck I simply can't look away from. And some sick part of me really hopes that it gets better in part 2 (I know it probably doesn't) and that I'll be at least somewhat pleasantly surprised.

To make a long story short, if any of the above is an ick or bad writing is something you cannot stomach, skip this one. Skip it and go find something else in your TBR.

If you loved this book, I love that for you. That sparks joy in me and I wish I could see the joy and whimsy that you do. Unfortunately, I am a picky bitch and too in love with this subgenre to casually enjoy anything anymore. (See also: the joy and whimsy has left me long ago and my patience level is zero with this sort of thing)

It’s been a little while since i’ve read a shifter romance, so was excited to start Come for me. This is part one of a duet and I can’t wait to devour the next part.
This story focuses on Alaina, a young she wolf, orphaned and raised by another. She is strong minded and on a mission to piece together who she is. During her 2nd hunt she accepts she won’t find her mate and is happy to bond with her friend with benefits. But the moon goddess has other plans for her and Alaina finds her one true mate - Dax.
Dax the ruthless king and alpha has been waiting for years for his mate, so when the mate bond tugs between him & Alaina he wastes no time in claiming her.. Dax has many enemies and is fiercely protective of those he loves, but he’s not so good with his feelings. His cold demeanor and lack of empathy leaves Alaina looking for a way out of the bond and she makes it her mission to challenge him at every step. Nothing can come between a mate bond and their animalistic urge for one another, and the more they are together the more that the line between love & hate blurs.
It ends on a dramatic cliffhanger and i can’t wait to see how their story ends.
The spice in this is red hot! Dax is one hell of an alphahole and I am here for it

Holy heck…this was so good and the audio is amazing! Performed in duet by Andi Eloise and Joe Arden and it is so FREAKING good! They did a phenomenal job at narrating this book and I listened to it in a day!

Dax can force me into submission any day of the week….sheesh I’d willing drop to my knees! The spice in this book is so dang delicious and I love how fierce Alaina is too! She’s not making it easy for Dax and I love that! The banter is chef’s kiss and I’m here for it.

I cannot wait for the audio of the next book….and will be anxiously waiting for it!

POV: You’re 50% into a book and hate everyone except the narrator and the spice.

📖 Come For Me, Part One – 3 stars
Here’s where I stand:

🔥 Narration? ON. FIRE.
🎧 Jo Arden? DADDY. He could read my grocery list and I’d blush. The only reason I’m still here.

👑 FMC: Bratty. Childish. On her villain origin arc but like… in the wrong book.
🐺 MMC: Broody. Dangerous. Growls like he owns the woods and maybe my soul.
💔 Miscommunication trope? Alive, toxic, and overstaying its welcome.
👎 Ex Fiancé subplot? Flat. Lifeless. Someone throw this man off a bridge.
🏃‍♀️ Pacing? Fast enough to keep me feral. I’m mad, but I’m still turning pages.
🌶️ Spice? Carrying this book on its sweaty, tattooed back. Every time I say “I’m done,” it says “but what if he growled mine again?” AND I STAY.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 —
✨ The narration? 5 stars.
✨ The plot? Debatable.
✨ The spice? Praise kink and primal growls got me in a chokehold.
✨ The patience I have for the FMC? Rapidly declining.

Will I read Part 2? Probably.
Do I love myself? Unclear.

i got the pleasure of reading this as an ARC and i enjoyed it! the world building and story line is easy to follow. the MMC and FMC are werewolves, and i love fated mates romance. the spice is spicing, and the banter had me giggling and kicking me feet. the FMC made me mad at times, but i could still tolerate her. the MMC though! 🤭 who doesn't love a tortured, unhinged, "killing machine" who only has a soft spot for her and worships her like the queen she is. you can tell how much Dax cares for Alaina and feel for him because of how she treats him and has hurt him. but when Dax said "never leave me", i was like 🥺🥺🥺. i enjoyed the side characters too, especially sam. i loved alaina's and his bantering and their sibling like relationship. once i started reading, i couldn't put the book down. at the end, i wanted to throw it because of the cliffhanger. i know CJ is gonna do something unhinged and unpredictable in the next book, but i can't wait to read it. 🤍
as always, check trigger warnings. 🤍

- "You don't know how long I've waited for you." 🥺🥰
- "Come for me, darling." 🤭😩
- "But my mate? I would destroy the world for her." 😭🤍
- "The only thing I do fear is losing her." 🥺🥲
- "If you want to act like a bitch, then I'll treat you like one. Crawl to me." AGHHH 🤭🤭🛐

Honestly, this story was just awful. It was flat, boring, and predictable. The only reason I finished it was because I was listening to it on audible and the narrators were 🔥🔥🔥. But I literally could not stand Alayna. Her actions were cringeworthy and she acted like a spoiled brat who threw tantrums when she didn’t get her way (eye roll), not like a 21 yo woman. The MMC was intriguing and sexy. This could have been so good if the FMC wasn’t so annoyingly stupid.

I’m irritated that I wasted money and time on this book.

Even the spice is just meh.

I cannot recommend.

My rating system:
⭐️ = Bad enough that I couldn’t waste another minute of my life reading. Would not recommend book to others.
⭐️⭐️ = finished the book but it “meh”. Lacking in plot, or character development. Would not recommend book to others.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ = enjoyed the book but had some parts that did not work for me (i.e annoying characters, bad plot development, or bad editing). May recommend book to others.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = thoroughly enjoyed the book, characters, and plot, but felt like it was missing something. Would recommend book to others.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️= loved it! Couldn’t put it down! Gave me all the feels and would definitely recommend book to others.

Another character disappointment and, sadly, a waste of a promising premise. Why do authors keep writing FMCs who are spoiled, immature, and downright insufferable? Why? It’s such a letdown when the story had potential.
The MMC is deranged and unhinged, no doubt but strangely, I could accept that. His chaos made sense in the context of the story, and Joe Arden’s flawless narration definitely helped sell it. He brought intensity where the writing alone didn’t quite deliver.
The book ends on a cliffhanger, but I won’t be continuing. I'd rather walk away than spend another chapter with such a frustrating FMC.
