Neva is different. Aside from having a phobia of mirrors and an unquenchable desire for apples, she harbors a dark secret. She's been cursed to repeat the same three years of her life over and over again. Unfortunately, these three years happen to be Neva's sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school, and high school's not that easy when everyone considers you a fre ...more

The Girl with the Blood Red Lips started out okay, but i quickly got bored. (And hungry!)

I didn't really like Neva.
She was really naive, and had annoying moments. I did feel sorry for her though - Doing the same three years at school over and over again would be torture!

The other characters weren't very good either. They were either annoying, horrible or weird.

This book had a major thing about food.
Within 30%, food (besides a

Neva the young high schooler girl is very different from others. Neva is scared of mirrors and is addicted to apples but, it’s not the main strange thing. Everyone could have a phobia and a desire well thats is pretty obvious, and it wouldn’t be weird. The weird thing is that Neva was the only one in the entire school that was cursed of repeating three years of life over and over. Neva didn’t know what was happening ad hided it to everyone around. It was called the dark secret because Neva was t ...more

I love the “retelling” genre. I love allusion and the notion of taking a very old story and restyling it, but there is something to be said about subtly. I almost want to be able to read a retelling without seeing the obvious signs of a retelling. I like to find little gems of the original story. This novel wasn’t like that. It was an in-your-face restyling of the fairytale of Snow White to the point of being irksome. So many thing

Note: I am being a little generous with the rating of 3.5, because despite the overall weakness of the writing, I enjoyed reading this book.

Thanks to Netgalley and All Night Reads for allowing me to read and review this.

The Girl With the Blood Red Lips is a unique take on Snow White. Neva (as she currently calls herself) was once the Snow White of tales, but instead of falling asleep after biting the apple, she is cursed by her step-mother to relive the last th

Solid 3 stars!!

Neva Albano is obsessed with apples, can’t look in a mirror, and she can’t kiss a boy without sentencing them to immediate death. See, the stories they’ve told about her always include a “Happily Ever After”…only problem is, she’s still in her story – the end hasn’t happened yet, and if it does, it certainly won’t be happy. And of course, the fact that she have been living the ages of fifteen,

This book was not at all what I expected. I thought it was a vampire book, which it was obviously not (why was I even thinking that? Just because a title has the word ‘blood’ in it doesn’t mean it’s about vampires…). This is actually a fairytale retelling of Snow White which definitely needs to be defined in the summary above. I would never get that from the cover or the title. Thankfully, I read another review of this book that mentioned this idea as well. Know that before going in. Otherwise, ...more

My copy was provided by Netgalley.
Neva isn't a normal curse. She was cursed several years ago to relive the same three years of her life. Sadly, these three years are when Neva has to go to high school. So she has to relive the same high school drama over and over again. To others, Neva is an outcast, a freak, because of her phobia of mirrors and her uncontrollable obsession with apples which is part of her curse.
To break this curse, Neva has to commit a gruesome task, a task she will never do,

The Girl With the Blood Red Lips by V.B. Marlowe

Neva has been cursed. She is forced to relive being in high school until she finally manages to break the curse. However, Neva isn't willing to do what is required to break it since she doesn't want to hurt anyone else. Still, she hopes to

I received an ebook copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I actually quite enjoyed this book until the very end.
I felt that the character development was a little lacking & slow in reveal, but once certain pieces of information were revealed to the reader, it was apparent that the character had been acting in accordance with that information, even though it was not yet obvious. I did feel that this re-telling of Snow White was quite interesting as it was definitely

For a book that has such a similar title to a Kady Cross book, it was not nearly as good.
I was not very impressed with this book. It was really cliché, and the whole thing with Henry was so predictable. SPOILER the scene where he and Neva fight is so ridiculous. He was less scary when we found out he was Hansel, but when it turned out he was not the neighbors son, that scared me. SPOILER OVER
If you want to read a vaguely creepy, typical high school story, this is it.

Very interesting take on a popular fairy tale. Towards the middle of the book, things became super predictable but I think that is on purpose. Everything falls in place perfectly and Neva is seeing what is going on. I did enjoy the idea of the huntsman. Part of me was kind of repulsed, but part of my felt sympathy. He was doing this because he was punished for trying to be a to be a better person.

Neva, well, she was your typical teenager. Used to not fitting in, but sometimes wanting the chance

ARC for an honest review...
This book is a retelling of Snow White and I actually love retellings of a fairy tale. I expected so much more from this book. I hated the MC Neva she was written so unrealistic and almost everything in this book revovled around food somehow.

Basically Neva is stuck living the same three years of High School over and over again. THIS SOUNDS LIKE HELL AND WRITTEN THAT WAY TOO. This book is full of impossible situations and unlikeable characters.

I wanted so much to lik

This was a fast and fun read. Neva's story is a retelling of Snow White, but the reader doesn't realize it until the second half of the book. There were some great twists in the story that I didn't see coming and it really held my interest. I am shelving this as a YA book, but it is more of a higher level children's book. The teaser for the second book in the series caught my eye as well.

Sorry this book just wasn't for me.

I DNF it unfortunately and although a novel idea (Which will appeal to some), it just didn't keep me interested.

2.5/5 stars that I rounded up because I was feeling generous. This was okay. More than okay, but it doesn't surpass good, so it's somewhere in between.
