Victoria doesn't have time for love after a bitter divorce. She's too busy. Her twin daughters are approaching puberty and her interior design business is expanding. So when Nick enters her life, she has to remember why she's too busy for a little lust. Which is difficult considering he's the contractor hired to redo her office. Besides, his tattoos and MMA past make him a poor candidate for a woman who's trying to level out her life.
Nick thinks Victoria's hot but doesn't want to get involved with a woman who has kids, much less one that's been hurt by a man. Too much baggage. He's sworn off relationships, tending to stick with one-night stands. Victoria is a client, one he doesn't want to cross the line with, but the more he's near her, the quicker his resolve weakens.
“Crossing the Line” by Samantha Long 5 out of 5 stars
Have you ever started a book and felt like you were having an extended conversation with a friend? That’s exactly how I felt when I read “Crossing the Line” by Samantha Long. Her characters are absolutely real and relatable! You won’t regret picking this one up…just settle in because you will not want to put it down!
Veronica comes from an amazing family. Her parents are still happily married after many decades together and she has two awesome sisters who seem to have their lives figured out. Unfortunately for Veronica, her road to happiness has taken a major detour. Fresh off a divorce and raising preteen twin girls virtually on her own, she has decided to put her career first and love a very distant second. When fate, in the form of her father, pushes her toward an old acquaintance will she be able to stick to her plan or will she realize that sometimes you have to cross the lines to get what you want?
I liked Veronica and her sisters! They were characters I could easily see myself having a girls night with. Long did an amazing job writing them in such a realistic way and I was definitely able to identify with Veronica. The dynamic between the three of them was entertaining, insightful, and often times hilarious. They brought the fun and the honesty to every scene they were in together. Veronica’s struggles with her daughters were true to life and I appreciated that Long didn’t gloss over their presence in the book. It was great to see a character face real parenting challenges in her quest for romance.
The down to earth quality of the book didn’t stop with Veronica’s family. Nick, his brother Luke, and their mom were written just as well and I loved getting to know them. It would have been easy to just focus on the sister dynamic but Long, once again, excels at the relationship between brothers. Nick and Luke pick at each other, laugh together, support one another, and have a great love for family. It was awesome to see them so connected to their mom and committed to being a consistent family unit. The chemistry between Nick and Veronica is electric and practically jumps off the page. Every scene is filled with heat and longing and I couldn’t wait for them to have their moment!
Long really took the time to develop the characters here and allow the reader to form a connection with each one. Her writing style is very fluid and easy to lose yourself in. I have high hopes that this will become a series. The groundwork is laid for another book starring Luke and Veronica’s sister Halle and I will be first in line to read it. I’m anxiously awaiting my next chance to hang out with this group and see where the story leads them next! Long gets an A+ for this one and I am highly recommending it to all!
*I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
Victoria needs help renovating her new office. The last thing she wanted was for her dad to set her up with bad boy, tattooed and sexy contracter, Nick.
Victoria is trying to keep away from the dating scene. She has teenage twin daughters and her ex-husband Roger is not making things easy for any of them. The last thing she needs is to complicate their lives with a guy like Nick.
Nick loves his family but his abusive father left him thinking he couldn't be a good husband or father. His relationships are all uncomplicated and Victoria has complication written all over her. He tries to keep his distance but he fails miserably.
My thoughts
I love stories like this. Victoria and her sisters are characters I would like to be friends with. They all have great personalities. Victoria is not perfect and dealing with an angry teenager made her more real to me. I hated her ex-husband. He is such a looser. I was glad when Nick came into the picture to spice up her life.
Nick made a couple of mistakes when he thought their relationship was getting too serious but the way he stayed loyal won million of points with me. Nick was also very good with his mother and his brother Luke. I'm hoping the next book is about Luke. Please let it be.
Did I forget to mention Luke and Nick are ex MMA fighters? Do I have your attention now?
If you are looking for a sweet, fast paced book with no cliffhangers, this one is for you.
Favorite Quotes:
"The door signified a line. Did he want to cross it? Once he did, there was no going back. No single nights, no one night stands. Hell yes he wanted to cross that line."
"It wasn't just about the mind-‐blowing sex. It was about how she made him feel. Now he needed to write a fucking Lifetime movie. Thank God his brother and his friends couldn't read his mind. they'd never let him back in the gym because he'd probably woman the place up. Hug instead of throw punches. Jesus."
"You are so beautiful, you take my breath away. No matter what I do during the day, you are on my mind. When I wake up, I think about texting you just to make sure you're thinking of me too."
After her recent divorce, Victoria sets out to build her life around her preteen twin girls and her newly thriving business. She has pushed all questions of love to the back of her mind. So imagine her surprise at the instantaneous attraction she feels for Nick right from their first meeting. And judging from the desire in Nick’s blue eyes, that attraction is very much mutual. Nick has never had any meaningful relationship before. He wants to avoid commitments as well as all the baggage and issues Victoria comes with. But, is his resolve really enough to overcome the allure of this hot and independent single mother?
Nick and Victoria are very likeable characters. I really enjoyed their interactions, and it was rather fun to see these two fight their attraction towards each other. However, as the story progresses, they find more reasons to be together than apart. It was lovely to watch the confident yet at times vulnerable Victoria. And Nick is always there to support her, unlike her ex-husband who’s a total self-absorbed wimp. I still can’t imagine how she ever ended up with Roger. If only I could witness a scene with Nick punching the lights out of him. But still I am glad that when push comes to shove Victoria isn’t one to silently tolerate it. And Nick is just so protective and caring towards Victoria as well as her girls, plus the guy can cook. So what more does a woman need in a man?
Another thong that I really liked is how well-developed the minor characters are, starting from Victoria’s parents to Nick’s mother and brother. The author also focuses on the bond between Victoria and her girls. While the vivacious and outgoing Lucia takes the divorce comparatively calmly, her shy and studious twin, Helena, does not take it well. And we are shown how Victoria and her family try to restore their shaky relationship. I loved her sisters, Halle and Addie, and how the sisters share their joys and sadness with each other. I liked the fact that both Nick and Victoria’s families are very supportive and loyal.
I feel everything gets resolved a bit too swiftly in the end. However, I am quite satisfied and happy with this book, and glad to have more books in this series to look forward to. I’m especially excited about Halle and Luke’s story. An enjoyable read that I highly recommend.
My thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
I was engrossed from the moment I started reading the book yesterday afternoon and couldn't stop reading until it was finished around 1am! Samantha Long has done an amazing job of creating down to earth, relatable characters who draw you in and make you feel for them. You find yourself cheering with their highs and wanting to scream at some of their lows. Definitely one-click this book! You won't regret it!
Crossing The Line is a book you can relate to it is about today’s issues with real people. This could be you or I just living life the best way we know how. It is a very touching story of people doing the best they can with what they have been given. The author covers some very tough issues of divorce, children going through a divorce, one parent gives all the other just wants to get even. Throw boyfriends and girlfriends in the mix an you have one big mess.
Victoria has just gone through a nasty divorce, her ex makes her out to be the bad guy with their young twin daughters. She is just wants to get her business off the ground, make a living raising her daughters and being happy. She isn’t ready for a new relationship and will fight to keep her life just as it is. She isn’t ready for bad boy Nick, who makes her blood pump along with her heart. Nick has a bad rep, she just isn’t into one night stands.
Nick owns his own construction business he is having the time of his life with his wild women and good times. Nick is a mess, he doesn’t want a relationship he is to afraid he will be like his father, kids no way no how is that going to happen. One night stands or even two night stands suits him to a T. That is until Victoria parents decide that she needs to find a new man and pick poor Nick to be that man.
Victoria father has retired and just can’t help her redo her new office. He hires Nick to renovate Victoria’s new office and is hoping Nick might do some renovate on Victoria, bring love and laughter back into her life. The attraction is strong, they fight it but as we know sometimes things are just too much and one has to give a little. Their relationship isn’t going to be easy, both have many issues to overcome. When you throw in a few ex’s and young children you have one hot mess.
To be honest I was going to give this book a 4 star, it was a wonderful read just very slow starting. Then we hit about ¾ way through and all man sh** hit the fan. You have meek, mild women but man when they get mad the kick butts and take names. When Victoria slapped Roger her ex she stole my heart and became my hero. Then when her sister pulled back her fist and slam dunk Trevor I found myself laughing myself silly. I found myself cheering for the ladies, nice job a job well done. These women have class, when cornered they come out fighting better than any boxer could. These sassy, fire spiting women give this book a 5 star. The humor was outstanding which makes this not only a wonderful read but one of the best I have read in a while.
The author has put so much emotion in this story, she has taken the time to get it right. This is true life, how it is with a lot of families. She takes you deep and makes you want to scream, beat a few heads together. You will find yourself talking to the characters and even disliking a few. I felt the author did an outstanding job in showing the fight for true love and overcoming the bad to get to the good. The characters were realistic, their responses and action are true to form. This is more than romance it is life! I highly recommend Crossing The Line and look forward to the next two books in this series Victoria’s sisters Addie and Finn. There is no way I am going to miss Addie’s story she stole my heart. If you are looking for an outstanding read about true life issues, throw in some romance and some spitfire women who won’t be ignored then this is the book for you.
This story is about Victoria a newly divorced mother of tween twin daughters. Who’s ex husband is a real piece of work. He is a self absorb wimp of a man! Her daughter’s are both handling the divorce in different ways. Lucia is outgoing and full of spunk she is taking it all in calmly, while Helena the shy studios one is not handling it well at all. Victoria has an interior design company that is really thriving and doing well. She wants nothing more than to concentrate on her girls and the business, no room for a relationship especially after the bitter divorce she just went through. But fate seems to have other plans for her, in the form of a sexy contractor that will be renovating her new office! Nate is a bad boy type, ex MMA fighter turned contractor. He didn’t have good role models for parents as far as marriage was concerned and he does not date woman especially ones with children. He is a one night stand kind of guy! He loves is Mom and brother and that is all he has room for, or will allow into his heart.
Victoria and Nate fight the temptations of their mutual attraction, and not wanting to have a relationship. But Victoria’s father keeps throwing them together lol! Making it harder and harder for them to ignore the feelings they are felling.
Samantha writes this story so well that you feel like you are a part of all and the conversations that Victoria and her sisters have they are so real, no fake personalities with these three ladies. And the relationship that Victoria has with her daughters is so true to life with real parenting challenges and struggles. Nate his brother and mother are written with the same style of realness. All of the characters in the story are loveable all except the ass of an ex husband that Victoria has lol!
If you like reading books that have a real life feel with emotions and struggles this is a book for you. One I recommend highly raw and real, not fantasy living here! 4 out of 5 stars!
Victoria divorcee and mother to preteen twin daughters does her best to pick up the pieces and move on with a normal life. She has a thriving business with no time for love or romance in anyway. That is until she lays eyes on the contractor who will be renovating her new office. Nick, tall lean guy black shaggy hair, tattoos on his arms, square jaw and full lips that she wants nothing to do but kiss. But she does not have time for that.
Nick, bad boy of the town, MMA fighter turn contractor didn’t have an easy childhood. He can only give the women he dates a night or two but nothing more. And there is no way he is dating a woman with children. He is no forever relationship man. Nick loves his mom and brother, no one else. He does not want to turn out like his dad.
As Victoria and Nick fight the attraction they have with each other tooth and nail, Wes, Victoria’s father keeps throwing them together. After having to spend the day with Victoria, they finally give in the feeling that they have for each other. Along the way of discovering each other, there are issues that come up, ex husband, ex lovers and keeping promises that will hurt their feelings.
They must learn to open up to love, learn to trust in each other and realize that sometimes forever comes in a ready made package.
This book was a fun read about finding love. I feel in love with Victoria and Nick from page 1. The supporting characters were wonderful too. I hope there will be more stories about Victoria’s sisters and Nick’s brother. I am looking forward to reading more from Samantha Long.

What a wonderful and fresh book. I really enjoyed it. It was really down to earth and very realistic. I love reading books that are so free like this. The author painted a very good picture with her details and descriptions it almost felt like I was right there alongside the main character. Veronica is the main character in this book and she is my favorite. She is newly divorced with twin daughters. Her ex is kind of a jerk. Veronica sisters are amazing and really funny I really like them as well. Veronica has a really good job and she meets up with Nate who is very swoon-worthy. He is an ex-MMA fighter, and I really love his character. Veronica and him are not wanting a relationship, but can they fight their attraction between each other? I don’t want to give the story line away, but this book is a must read. To me this book had some emotional parts to it, and I was sad that it ended, but I was also so glad I got to read this wonderful book from Samantha. Great Job.
Every now and then I read a book that contains a believable and relatable storyline. Well, Crossing the Line is definitely one of those books. Victoria, divorced mother of twin daughters, is not ready for love again. She has a thriving interior design business to keep her busy. When her business expands, Nick enters her life. He is the tattooed former MMA fighter who has been contracted to complete her office.
Because of Nick’s reservations regarding dating a woman with kids, he is reluctant to begin a relationship. Victoria has her own problems with her ex-husband. However, the two can’t deny their attraction, and the line is crossed anyway.
Crossing the Line is a refreshing, quick read that contains real life scenarios. I felt as though I was there with Victoria and Nick. I enjoyed the secondary characters in this book, too. Thank you, Ms. Long, for creating an original, true-to-life novel. I look forward to your next book.
Crossing the Line was an amazing read that I could not put down. The story is extremely well written, you feel like you are a part of it. It draws you in! The characters brilliantly written. Long did an amazing job of creating down to earth, easy to realate to characters. You can feel their emotions. You also read about tough situations such as; dealing with an angry teenager, learning to open up to love, learning to trust. It made the story more real. Long writes the story and characters in such a way the reader forms a connection. You will not be disappointed in this read! I recommend it to anyone.
I was honored to receive an advanced copy of this book to read! Samantha has moved into romance from YA beautifully. Her characters are well thought out, as usual, and quite thrilling. I have already read Crossing the Line twice, and fully intend on reading it over and over. She made me laugh and cry throughout the story. She really pulls you into Nick and Victoria's lives and feelings. This indie writer will blow your socks off with her story telling and keep you begging for more!
Nick is yummy. Victoria so deserves his love after that lousy idiot ex. He is new to relationships, so there are growing pains. I found him very endearing. I loved the relationships between the families and siblings in this book. Can't wait to read Addie's story this summer. I want her to fall hard for a hottie, too. Once Halle heals, I'm hopeful for her and Luke, too. Cute story with an empowered mother.
It's so nice to read a book that you can actually relate to, that you feel could easily be anyone's life. It started out slow for me BUT that was what made it more real. In the end I appreciated that it took Victoria so long to get with Nick. It was a great change of pace in this genre. I can completely relate to Nick and understand his apprehension and I know Roger in the form of my husbands baby momma and they are identical. I loved it and couldn't put it down!! Absolute great read!!!
Samantha had me from the start. The story of Victoria & Nick kept me turning the pages til the wee hours of the morning. If your looking for something with a little older main characters this is the one. Can't wait to read the next book. There is a next book right Samantha?
really enjoyed this story. It was sweet and passionate, all at once. The sincerity of the main characters was a nice twist. Even in their flaws, they were good people which I appreciated. The situations around them were realistic, like having a dead-beat dad and going through divorces and custody issues. Watching them work through their trust issues was intense. My only criticism was the ending. I would have liked more of a lead-in to the next series and more insight on how Nick and Victoria ended up. Otherwise, great book.
I loved Victoria and Nick together. He has a reputation as a ladies man and she just got divorced. He’s not looking for anything serious and she’s not a one night stand girl. They are perfectly imperfect for each other. They share a few struggles along the way but eventually they get it right and they get what we were all rooting for. Looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

This is about a woman who has two children and a busy business and has come out of a bad relationship, and a contractor who is against relationships and just wants some fun with one night stands, but sparks fly when he's doing work at her office. This is a good story with strong characters who you can relate to and the ups and downs of their relationship, brilliant read for on the beach as once you start you won't want to put it down.

I loved this storyline its intriguing and kept me wanting more. I Highly Recommend this book for OVER 18 DUE TO CONTENT. Victoria is raising two daughters and her ex husband Rodger after he cheated is not someone she can depend on to be there to help out with their daughters. On top of the stress of her ex husband she owns her own business and found a great location for her office. Her dad brings a friend along with him who is helping her to remodel her office.

She works hard to keep her twin daughters and her business after a bitter divorce. She has no time for love. He has had enough of women and so only does one night stands. They both have no time for anything serious and they seem to have a connection. Can they stop it before it becomes more? What will happen? See what will happen between them

WOW!! Grab some tissues, a snack (or glass of wine!), sit back and enjoy this emotional but fulfilling story. Oh my talk about spunky.... Addie's an amazing character, you've gotta read to find out why!! Samantha has another hit and i can't appt to read more. ARC received from BookSprout for an honest voluntary review. Due to sexual situations, this book is recommended for readers 18 and older!
I absolutely loved this book and was honored to have been able to receive an arc to read and review. It was such a phenomenal read and had amazing characters as well as an amazing story line. I just couldn't get enough of it and once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I recommend that you read it.
I quite enjoyed this book even if it was a bit steamy for my taste. Being a single Mom with pre teen twin girls is definitely challenging in many ways. I felt like the issues raised in the book are ones many a divorced parent faces. They were handled in very sensitively, a good stand alone read with HEA, and there are more in this series.
This is an enjoyable book. It is honest about the struggles of being a single mom of teenage twin girls. At the same time dealing with the lousy father of her girls and a new man in her life.
This was a really good read I just loved Victoria and Nick these two were great together they had lots of chemistry but they don't have it easy and have a lot to get through before they get their HEA. A really good read I enjoyed it
So forbidden love this storyline nick & Victoria! After Victoria divorce all she wanted is take care of her kids and than she finds nick ugh oh... I liked the storyline. This is the first book in the series!

This was a very enjoyable read, well written. I would love to read the other 2 bks, unfortunately they aren’t available on Kindle Unlimited. If you are looking for an easy, enjoyable read this is a good one.
I was involved in these people from the beginning! Samantha is an awesome storyteller! I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! Love, drama, hurt, loyalty, compassion and community!
I really enjoyed this book. Victoria was a little to uptight but it was expected because of her ex. Glad she found what she was lookin for with Nick. I love Addie and can’t wait to read her book.
