I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Zooloos Book Tours.
Crown of Hearts is the second book in a new romantasy series: Twisted Crowns, and one I flew through with anticipation. The book starts exactly where we left the story in book one (If the Crown Fits), and Elara sure has the odds stacked against her with assassination attempts, dangerous alliances, and navigating a court filled with deceit. As rebellion and betrayals surround her and her kingdom Elara is being backed into a corner to form an alliance with King Cai of Norrandale. But after his deceit in book one Elara knows this decision can't be made lightly.
This was again a fast paced and easy to navigate but did focus more on the politics compared to book one but just as much drama and intrigue. I can't wait to see where the final book takes us!

My Initial Thoughts
I was so excited to carry on the series, as I really did enjoy the first book and was eager to continue my journey with Elara and Cai. The cover is also beautiful, so if you are someone who judges books by their cover, then well its stunning. The book picks straight up after Elara was crowned and we find out what happened after they both spilt.
Plot
The plot carries on from the first If The Crown Fits. Honestly the plot moves very slowly in this one, and I ended up rating this one for the vibes rather than judging the storyline. Little really happens within the plot until the end cliffhanger, but the journey to that is enjoyable and makes it quite the cosy in between before the last instalment, filling in some of the much needed gaps, while still leaving you wondering about others. But the emotions you will feel as the later half of the book is nothing beyond turmoil.
Characters
The characters have developed in the second instalment, and gain a whole lot of new responsibilities. Cai and Elara have become separated and guarded and need to find a way to each other again, as is the majority of this plot. The danger to the characters in this are all that much more elevated. Elara will always be the masked bandit but now she has to survive in a world that she has only ever hated. Cai has to take on more than he thought he would. One of the new side characters Anesta was amazing and I loved the bond her and Elara gained throughout the book. Ray, Jack and Rhen are still ever present and able to steal your heart, until you are to broken to think.

I think this book is in the romantasy genre, its like adventure and romance rolled into one. So if you are looking for a romance with action, then this could be the book for you.

What an epic continuation of this series. I am loving the character development in this series and thrown straight into Elara having been crowned. I loved how it picked up exactly where If The Crown Fits ended.
It’s interesting to read the world building and politics in this book. Dealing with their respective kingdoms whilst becoming monarchs. I think Elara and Cai held their kingdoms very well throughout despite what they were going through and trying to find a way back to each other.
I devoured this book within 24 hours (and whilst at work!) it was fantastic. I wanted more spice than what was given - they could’ve had a lot more sexy time but it just wasn’t a huge focus. I get that but I also want to see relationships blossom and I am a smut girly, so I like my smut 😝 Here’s hoping for some more in book 3!

This is the second book in The Twisted Crown Trilogy and having read If The Crown Fits, book one, back in November (and loving it!), I was so excited to see that our wait for this second installment was so short!!
We kick this book off right from where we left Elara which was brilliant.
So easy to fall straight back into this world and have all that happened flooding back.
Elara is now crowned but still coming to terms with everything and the unrest within the kingdom is not making hinga easy for her.
The development from book one flows seamlessly and it was great to see both of the Kingdoms growing and expanding.
This read focusses much more on the world building and politics of the Kingdoms rather than the romance and relationships, which I did miss a little, but felt that for this stage of the story, it did work well.
Once again, the writing style is beautiful and perfect for the genre.
Full of tension and with a good pace, I was again engrossed and racing through the pages.
This left me feeling a little emotional and I'm dreading that the wait for book 3 may be much longer this time - but I'm already looking forward to seeing how things will play out to bring this trilogy to its final, exciting conclusion!

A Romantasy Adventure across the Kingdoms.

This is the second book in the Twisted Crowns Trilogy. A quick, easy read following Elara who is now Queen of Evenness.
Elara’s reign is fraught with difficulties from all sides and marriage looks like the only option to secure her throne. One possibility is to see if her old friend, King Cai from Norrandale, would consider marriage to align their Kingdoms. Elara embarks on a journey to explore this option and once there, discovers that they also have a mutual antagonist, King Aries from a neighbouring Kingdom.
The pages are full of action and adventure and a most enjoyable read. Liane has a way of engaging you with the characters and taking you on their journey with them. I found the characters relatable and what they lacked in depth, Liane made up with storyline. I couldn’t wait to turn the pages, reading into the night.
If you enjoy Romantasy, then give this a read. A good 3 star by the end of the book, although, as before, the first half always seems to be slightly lacking but ends up with a bang!
Go on, give it a read! Recommended and looking forward to the next one.

One of the tropes that has been identified for this book is 'we support women's rights and women's wrongs', which is actually a pretty powerful statement.
Here we see a young, new queen taking up what is rightfully hers, but we witness the mishaps she also makes.
I love Elara as she takes to her new role with determination and is a great role model!
As always Leané's writing is beautifully written and enthralling; however, I would agree that this is slightly more political, which only adds to the intrigue.
I honestly can't wait to see how this trilogy ends, but at the same time, I'd be sad for it to be finished.

You definitely need to have read the first book in the series, before you read this one. I admit I had forgotten a lot of the first book, and had to do a refresher course before I could really get into this one. Once I did, I really started to enjoy this one. This is not just your run-of-the-mill fairytale. Not only is there the potential love match, but there is also a lot of intrigue, court politics, fighting & drama. If you love fantasy fiction, then you should definitely check this series out.

I was not a really big romance or fantasy fan but I have to say the Twisted Crowns trilogy is something I am really enjoying. The second book is arguably better than the first. I really like how we get to know more about the world, particularly the courts and intrigue within them. On top of this I love how the characters continue to grow and develop throughout. I was concerned that I might get a bit worn down with Elara and Cai trying to find each other, worrying the focus would be more romance/pining but there was a nice mix of adventure and action as well that kept me interested and to be honest I love the relationship between these characters. I think any romantasy fan will love this but if you are more of a fantasy fan like me, you’ll still enjoy this one!

Crown of Hearts you Leane Giliomee.
The twisted crown series book 2.
I loved the cover and blurb of this book. Gorgeous cover. I got into it straight away. Even though I haven't read book 1 yet. I liked the writing style and the story. I loved everything about this book. There was nothing I didn't like about it. I couldn't put it down. I had to keep reading it. Read in two sittings. I really didn't like Thatcher at all. I didn't trust him. I loved Cai and Elara. I'm really looking forward to the next book. Definitely recommend.

i loved diving back into this fantasy world that leane has beautifully created - especially further exploring the two mc’s relationship (which we FINALLY GOT - warning for a closed door sex scene x ) ⠀

this was sitting at a solid 3/3.5 star for the majority of the book all the way until the ending when i actually gasped out loud…. no spoilers but it boosted it up to a 4🌟 just from that! ⠀

this book is like living in the bridgerton dream - sword fighting practice, sneaking off for royal picnics or horse rides, the guilt you must feel for living in such luxury - leane really captured the feels of elara as she experienced poverty turned royal. ⠀

At first, this novel starts off kind-of slow but that changes as the story progresses. It ends in a bit of a cliffhanger that was unexpected and curious where the story is going to go from there. I didn't read the first novel in the series and wasn't a bit lost at all. It basically is a rags to riches type story with a thief turned queen which makes for some interesting reading as the main character adjusts to a different life. There are many questions and things that need to be resolved in the next novel.

This is book 2 of the Twisted Crowns Trilogy and follows Elara and Cai as they both navigate their new worlds of becoming monarchs of their respective kingdoms. Each heartbroken of how they left off (at the end of book 1), we follow their journey back to each other, even if still hesitantly. Politics get in their way as alliances, marriages, and war looms in every corner. And an old enemy of Cai’s makes himself known across the sea. Elara and Cai’s love battle it out within themselves to find out if love can conquer their own fears of not living up to their duties to their kingdoms.
I did read this book in less than 24 hours. It’s a good, face-paced story without a whole ton of useless fluff you see in a lot of books. I love the story, but I do wish the spice was a bit more spicy. I don’t need a ton in order to enjoy a story but I feel like I worked all the way up to it and didn’t get the reward I was hoping. Spicy/steamy scenes can be done without being too raunchy but I felt this was lacking and I wanted it to push juuuust a bit more, which was disappointing because I love the story and the characters.
I liked the development of Elara and Cai with their friends and family of their own. I felt we got to know not only more about the side characters, but Elara and Cai too. The witty banter between Elara and Cai wasn’t there as much as book 1, but you got it more with their interactions with the side characters.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and can’t wait for the third one! I really appreciate a publisher/author that doesn’t make you wait a year plus for the next book. It’s been a good amount of spacing.

Crown of Hearts is the gripping second installment , and it picks up right where the first book left off something I was incredibly excited about. From the very first page, the story pulls you in with its fast paced narrative, political intrigue, and ever evolving character dynamics.
In this book, we witness significant character development as the two main protagonists step into their roles as king and queen. They both face turmoil within their respective kingdoms, struggling not only with external threats but also with their growing, unspoken feelings for each other. Their relationship is a slow burn ,painfully so at times ,because their new positions demand political strategy over personal desires. Just when it seems like they might finally be together, new obstacles arise, forcing them to balance the fate of their love against the future of their kingdoms.
The plot is filled with intrigue, action, and high-stakes decisions. With enemies lurking in every corner, the protagonists must determine who they can truly trust while weighing the risks of their choices. This is the second book in the Twisted Crowns trilogy, and it was such a quick, easy, and engaging read. Following Elara—who went from commoner to Queen of Evenness—it’s safe to say this is a serious glow-up!
What to Expect:
👑 Political Intrigue & Strategy – Elara’s reign isn’t exactly smooth sailing, and marriage seems like her best shot at securing her throne. Enter King Cai of Norrandale—a potential ally with a shared enemy in King Aries. Their best political move? A strategic marriage.
🔥 Banter & Chemistry – Elara and Cai’s dynamic is so entertaining. Their snarky exchanges had me hooked, and their chemistry? Absolutely on fire.
⚔️ Action-Packed Plot – The pages are full of adventure, betrayals, and high-stakes decisions that kept me reading late into the night. The pacing picks up significantly in the second half, making for an explosive ending!

Here is my review for Crown Of Hearts by Leane Giliomee
This story is a fantastic read and once I got into it, that was it I was hooked until the end. I really liked the two main characters Elara and Cai which the book was centred on and they were put through some tests to test their love and how they felt about each other. The book was extremely well written and well plotted too. It had been well thought out from the start and we have a new King added to the mix. The author has kept the pace and imagination of the first book into this book and I found I just couldn’t put the book down until I had finished it, I was so enthralled by it. I now can’t wait to read the next book.

Being the Masked Bandit of Evenness was hard, but being Queen of Evenness is even harder.
I loved If The Crown Fits and was so excited to have the opportunity to read The Twisted Crown. Cai and Elara are still dealing with unrest, with the appearance of a new antagonist, King Aries from a neighbouring kingdom. If the last book had the feel of a heist, this one has a bit of a comedy of errors, with two people who are in love with each other, but can't quite get it together. I couldn't put the book down, and I kept screaming at the them to just be honest with each other! I also really enjoyed getting to see Elara's brother Lance again. Is he amoral? Yes. Incredibly entertaining? Also yes. I loved seeing these two near strangers navigate their relationships as siblings. Watching Elara learning who to trust, and that the world is perhaps less black and white than she thought, is incredibly entertaining.
The one thing I wish we had gotten to see more of is Elara's relationship with her ladies in waiting. They were prominent parts of the book, but we got to know them little beyond their relationship ambitions - I would have really enjoyed getting to know a bit more about who they were and their worldviews.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves romantasy novels with a softer bent.

-I felt like this book fell flat for me. I really enjoyed this first book and all its elements but the plot in this sequel didn’t hit for me. It truly felt like a filler book and it is often the case in trilogies here the second book is a bit less interesting. I didn’t really understand what the main plot of this book was. The threat of war was interesting but it felt a bit overshadowed by the whole proposal situation which felt dragged out a bit too much. I still like the world and certain directions it could go in.
-I still like the characters of this series but I have to say that they irritated me more in this book. I felt like there was a lot of back and forth between Elara and Cai from running away to chasing each other and their feelings for each other and the marriage proposal. It was a bit all over the place and then the leaves dropping on each other and not getting the full story just irked me. But don’t get me wrong, I still like these characters.
-Can I just say, I knew it. I had a strong suspicion from quite early in and as the book progressed my suspicions kept growing more and more until they were confirmed. There were many clues but I hadn’t expected the reveal to happen the way it did. It definitely leaves lots to anticipate for the final book which I do plan on picking up if I have the chance.

While I still enjoyed being back in this world, the story felt more like a build-up than a fully developed installment. There wasn’t a lot of major plot progression outside of the romance, and at times I found myself wishing for more depth — especially when it came to the political meetings and the broader court dynamics. I would have loved to spend more time with the side characters and see the larger stakes unfold on page.
And Jack… poor, poor Jack 😭 My heart truly ached for him. And Cornelia — I did not see that coming. That moment genuinely hurt and caught me completely off guard 😢

The second book in the Twisted Crown Trilogy, Crown of Hearts further explores the relationship between Elara and Cai, now the queen and king of their respective countries which share a neighbouring border. Rebellion, betrayal and the threat of invasion colour the majority of the story along with the primary narrative of Elara's need to marry.
The writing has an enjoyably simple young adult feel and the story is fairly short for this genre, however, the first two-thirds felt a little slow. The narrative really picks up in the final third and becomes much more interesting with plenty of action, although this is often skimmed past a little too quickly and could be delved into in more detail. Unfortunately, the 'baddie' seemed incredibly obvious to me, which was disappointing. I was hoping for a twist, and to be taken by surprise.
I am still looking forward to the final book in the trilogy, and discovering the conclusion of the story.

Not only is their future on a knife edge, but the continuing existence of the two kingdoms is at stake. Can a marriage forge a strengthening alliance between the two nations, or will this alliance be seen as a threat to neighbouring nations? War looks imminent as Aries, the king of Argon, sends deadly assassins and spies. Aries is bent on vengeance for the death of his brother at the hands of Cai during the last war. The story takes the pair, and their loyal guards and friends on journeys back and forth through the enchanted forests and their on-off relationship takes as many twists. It is a great story of love, loyalty, and betrayal. I eagerly await the promised part III.

The beauty of fantasy is that it's a genre you can get totally swept up and lose yourself in, if all the right elements are there. Leané Giliomee is a credible writer, as per reviews for If the Crown Fits, the first book in this series. This story is narrated via dual perspectives, that of newly crowned Elara, and Cai, King of an opposing court.
To say that there is tension in the air would be the understatement of the year. Elara needs help from her old adversary Cai, but isn't sure if she can trust him. But, for the good of both their kingdoms, they need to find a way to work together.
Politics and courtly matters assist with the worldbuilding, which is well-paced. The writing style flows well, making it an easy read. Elara and Cai are likeable characters but I would have loved to have seen more action from them. That aside, what they did go through together was well placed and thoughtful. A solid fantasy adventure that's sure to go down well.

Crown of Hearts by Leane Giliomee is book two in the Twisted Crown trilogy and If you haven't read the first book of this series, you'll want to stop reading here because I can't promise not to give anything away for that one.
This book picks up shortly after book one left off. Elara is now Queen but she is still surrounded by danger and deceit. She quickly realizes that the only way she will be able to keep her throne and kingdom safe is to marry and while things didn't necessarily end well with Cai when he went back to Norrandale, he's really the only one she wants to consider so after another failed assassination, she makes the journey to him to try to convince him to marry her.
Cai is now King and he's still trying to find his way. When Elara shows up asking him to marry her, he knows there is more at stake than just their feelings. He has to take into account their kingdoms and the threats that surround them both and when he and Elara find out that her missing sister happens to be in the kingdom of their biggest threat, they decide to chance it and go get her.
A lot happens in this installment but I don't want to give anything away. There is quite a bit of character growth though for both Cai and Elara because they can't just think about what they want anymore and I think Elara struggles with that more than Cai just because of how she grew up. There were some great secondary characters that helped to move the story along as well - Rhen, Jack, Ray, Anesta...they all had a roll to play.
If you're looking for a book with some action, romance, and royal politics you might enjoy this one. I will say with the ending, Giliomee has me wondering what is going to happen next (no I'm not telling you what happened) so I'm definitely going to be picking up the next book when I can.

A good read. The storyline is focused on King Cai and Queen Elara. With them both being crowned in difficult circumstances, they both have to come to grips with how to run their kingdoms. It makes it harder as dangerous alliances, treachery and deceit threaten to ruin everything. The characters of the King and Queen you cannot help but route for. The blossoming romance between the two brings something else to the story. The author alternates between the two characters in the chapters which helps you see things from the characters points of view. They both start to realise they are stronger together. The ending is especially dramatic and you will want to know the end. I know I did! This book is book two in the series. I would recommend reading the first as it shows how the two characters first come together. I would highly recommend reading both.

Thank you Booksirens for the chance to get this book as soon as possible.
There are a lot of great sequels coming out this year, and this was one of the ones I was waiting for.
And just like the first book I read it in less than two days.
For my feeling it started out a little slow, with getting caught up with where we left the characters at the end of the first book. The characters grew and moved on, mentally and physically, but soon the circumstances bring our main characters back together again.
There are still some side stories that are shrouded in mystery, I really hope we get some more hints in the next book.
I feared that this book suffered from second book disease, but while the story flows well, and is high paced, towards the end it turns into a whitewater course.
This cliffhanger will keep me on the edge of my seat until the next book comes out.

I give this book 4 stars!
I was so excited for this ARC since I did book one If the Crown Fits.
In Crown of Hearts, we get to see how Elara and Cai both navigate being King and Queen in their kingdoms. Of course there is court drama, different marriage proposals, politics, all the courtly dramas we love. I can happily say I was shocked at some parts of this story; those plot twists are something else! You also get to see different kingdoms and learn how they differ from each other. I have to say I am a little worried for our beloved characters after that ending!
Favorite Quote: “War could take what it wanted from me, but it could not take him.”
Definitely recommend!
