[#105 Malawi] This is a book about a young journalist who ends up involved in the political events that led his country to independence from Great Britain. My copy is more than fifty years old, but still, the story and the characters felt very modern. The style was neat and easy to read. I really liked that nothing was either black or white, and that, even if they end up winning independence, the reader is left with a bad taste in the mouth.
The whole time I was reading the book it felt like all the interesting bits kept just happening "off camera." Each time the story kept building and building to a climax, the event would be over and people would be discussing the ramifications of what happened.
