Rate this book
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Book! Good Girl. Notorious Bad-Boy. One Phenomenal Love. From the mean streets of Detroit rises the newest superstar of professional wrestling, Xavier Cold, better known as Phenomenal X. His muscular physique makes men cower before him and women lose their minds with desire. Anna Cortez is fresh out of college and naive to the harsh realities of the real world. Tired of living under the thumb of her conservative family, she defies them when she accepts a job as the assistant to wrestling’s most notorious bad-boy. Phenomenal X has an animalistic nature that even good girl Anna finds hard to resist. One night forced to share a bed in a sold-out hotel, lines blur between them and they quickly learn that one lustful night changes everything and neither one of them will ever be the same. *** New Two Book Series from NYT & USA TODAY Bestselling author, Michelle A. The plot was well written, the characters were lovable, the villains made you want to throat punch somebody and the romance was off the charts!!” Reanell, Book Babes Unite *** “I have been a fan of Michelle Valentine since I first started reading her rock star "Black Falcon" series, and now a fan of her Hard Knock series. She has drawn me into the world of Xavier and Anna, and I don't want to leave.” Janeane, BJ's Book Blog *** “This book had me enthralled the entire time. I cried at the halfway mark when she wrote Xavier's past from his POV. My heart was breaking for him every time she took us back to his past. I wanted to reach into my Kindle and hug him. 5 Phenomenal Stars!

 photo 34e70d12-722b-415d-b514-e5115dc5eb08_zpsfd52e06c.jpg
Good Girl. Notoruoius Bad-Boy. One Phenomenal Love.

Phenomenal X was a fabulous read. X really does hit the spot! I love Michelle Valentine’s Black Falcon series and I wasn’t sure if any guy she wrote would top Riff for me. Well, Xavier Cold pushed his way to the top! This is by far Michelle’s best work yet!

Anna Cortez is a young girl trying to make her own way in life. After being raised a controlling and overbearing father, Anna leaves her home in Portland to live with her aunt and cousin in Michigan. To start fresh. On the airplane, she notices a man. A big man, a gorgeous man with light eyes and dark long hair. Everyone on the plane seems to know who Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome is. Everyone but her.

Xavier Cold is a pro wrestler known as Phenomenal X. He’s on his way home for the first time in a long time. When he see’s Anna on the plane, he knows there is something about this girl. When he meets her, she is unlike any other woman he’s met. Most women only want him for his notoriety. She has no clue who he is. It’s refreshing.

 photo e584e511-2d45-452a-a419-c498776daf01_zps89c6ad8a.jpg

The attraction between Anna and X is palpable. As much as Anna wants to, she can’t go there with this man. Not right now. She is just trying to get her life situated and doesn’t need the complication. X is intrigued by her. The fact that she isn’t sleeping with him makes him realize that she really is a good girl. A girl that needs protected. Protected from guys like him. X makes that his mission. To protect Anna while he can, to be there for her. To be her friend. They quickly fall into the ‘friend zone’.

 photo 2c9defff-cd50-4eb8-8494-51e4b3af4613_zps5b8138a4.jpg

It’s obvious they both want more, the attraction between them and the sexual tension is off the charts. But even more than wanting to sleep with Anna, X wants to protect her. Even if that means protecting her from himself.
“There’s more to me than just the persona that the public sees. There’s darkness inside me that no one should have to experience, and that’s what I’m trying to protect you from. No one should have to live with my demons but me.”

Now let me tell you a little bit more about the man that is Phenomenal X-

Xavier is sweet...
“Did you just reference a princess story? Macho guys like you aren’t supposed to do that.” He pulls me up against his side and wraps his arm around my shoulders. “We do if we’re hoping to be a woman’s Prince Charming some day.”

Xavier is sexy...
“I could do things to your body that most women only dream about while reading their dirty romance novels, and I promise you’d fucking enjoy it.”

and Xavier is a little bit on the damaged side with a past that tortures him...
“Don’t think for one second that I’m not a monster, because I am. I can’t change who or what I am. I hate to disappoint you, but I’m not a hero. I’m the fucking villain in this story.”

Sweet, sexy and damaged= Christy’s perfect man.

Anna and X stay ‘just friends’ for the time he is in Michigan. But with chemistry and a connection like they have, how long can they fight their attraction for one another?

 photo d4664690-13fc-4045-b339-f4f7457c064d_zps514805d4.jpg

When Anna finds herself without a job, she accepts X’s offer to be his personal assistant. You can imagine how that goes... To be with this man 24/7. The ending was a little bit on the cliffy side, but it was one of those cliffhangers that made you want more and made you even more excited for the next book! I for one can’t wait to see how this plays out!

I started Phenomenal X on a Saturday night. I laid on the couch and opened up my iPad and didn’t stop reading until I finished. I found myself praying the depleted battery on my device wouldn’t run out. I was engrossed in X’s and Anna’s story and didn’t want to put it down. Xavier was an amazing guy. And Anna, a refreshing heroine. Even though the two were so very different, they had an undeniable connection. I really loved how the two were friends for so long, and got to actually know each other before anything happened. It’s a welcomed change opposed to that insta-love that happens so often in books.

If you’re looking for a sweet and sexy romance with a hot and damaged fighter, you’ve found your next read! Phenomenal X by Michelle A. Valentine gets 5 stars from me!

“We all have things that haunt us- things we’d like to forget. The key is to not allow them to get in the way of our happiness.”
“Not everyone’s meant to have happiness, Anna. Some of us are meant for the dark.”

2.5 disappointing stars

I cannot believe how much I disliked this book. I knew from the synopsis that this book was going to be a bit cliche but I loved Michelle A. Valentine's previous books so I gave it a shot. Um...no. Just no. This book is a cross between Real by Katy Evans and every other New Adult book out there. Not original at all.

Anna is this super innocent 21 year old who is essentially running away from home and living with her Aunt and cousin across the country. She meets Xavier on the plane, has no idea who he is but notices how incredibly sexy he is. Of course he notices her right away and takes a quick interest in her.

Anyway of course now she's completely infatuated with him and can't stop thinking about him. He in return keeps talking about how he's "evil" and "not good enough for her" which by the way is so fucking annoying. I'm tired of the guys in books always coming up with stupid ass reasons as to why they can't be with the heroine. Always insisting they're not good enough. And then of course, he has to go and fuck up in a HUGE way that left me literally screaming with rage at no one in particular for about 30 minutes. This was my particular feeling toward Xavier:

At this point I fucking hate Xavier and I think Anna is so fucking naive, I can barely stand them. But then of course Anna continues on her stupid ways and lets just say it gets worse from there.

This book literally takes place all in the span of about two weeks and yet by the end of the first week their declaring love and fucking like rabbits? Oh and apparently she "read" somewhere that you can't get pregnant unless it's a certain week or some other stupid shit so they don't use protection...

The list can go on and on but I'm going to stop there because I don't want to spoil anything else for anyone. I'm upset that I didn't enjoy this book but I guess it just wasn't for me. Yes, there is a second book and it will be a continuation of these characters. Will I be reading it?

Anna is on the way to her Aunt's house to get away from her over controlling father. During the flight, she meets Xavier, aka Phenomenal X, and he is a force to be reckoned with. Although she declines his advances, Ana can't quit thinking about him and the "what-ifs".

First, I have to mention the cover...

description

after seeing that, I had to read this book! I was a bit disappointed in all the similarities to the Real series by Katy Evans. But...I also enjoyed it and hey, the more, the merrier!

Anna was interesting. I liked seeing her get out and try to make it on her own. Thank goodness for her cousin, Quinn, she certainly helped make things a lot easier.

Xavier could be Remy's twin minus being bipolar. He more than makes up for it with his bad boy behavior except for when he is with Anna. I do enjoy reading about the girl that snags the boy's heart.

description

It takes a while for things to get steamy though. Xavier doesn't want Anna to be hurt by him so he keeps her at arm's length. They even make rules for being friends which are pretty hilarious. Thankfully, it doesn't last for too long!

Unfortunately, there's some drama involving another woman, Xavier's coworkers (He's like a WWE or UFC fighter), Anna's coworkers (before she goes to "work" for Xavier) and even from Anna's Dad.

What an ending!! Things come to a head and It. Just. Ends!! And at 89%...I really hate that!! But...I cannot wait to find out more information on the next book!

Holy sexpot, this was a hot read!! I’m already salivating over Xavier Cold, a.k.a “X”/Phenomenal X.

Being a fan of Michelle for a while, I already knew that this was going to be good and I was RIGHT!

Anna Cortez had her life made for her. With an overbearing and controlling father running her life, Anna finds herself running away to live with her aunt and cousin to Chicago. However, while on the flight from Portland, she catches the eye of notorious Wrestler Casanova, Xavier “X” Cold, the sparks are off the chart.

description

description

Only…Anna knows he’s bad news and resists his charms but he’s not having it.

description

He wants Anna in his life and his bed and is willing to go through all measures to keep her. Even, if it means just a strong friendship between them and him serving as her protector.

But, as fate would have it, as the two grow closer so do feelings. As much as Xavier wants Anna, he does not want an actual relationship with her. And with his demons resurfacing, an old flame in the way, his wrestling title on the line and a very heated rivalry in the midst, how will things pan out?

description

My thoughts: Phenomenal X was one of those reads where I literally read in one sitting. It was just so mind boggling and captivating that I just had to know what would happen next.

The only downfall to this story was: there was the typical, “I’m no good for her,” “my past is too ugly for someone as pure as her”. Ugh. I hate that in plotlines. It’s so cliché and annoying really. Stop trying to be the noble martyr and let Anna make her own decisions. After all, it’s something that the male protagonist tends to reiterate from time to time so it should be taken in great stride here as well.

That said, a GREAT beginning to a new series!! Gah, that cliffhanger had me going, “NO!!!”. lol. And man, was it just me or was there so much sexual tension in this read?! I wanted to hump Xavier’s leg like there was no tomorrow! *wink wink*

Title: Phenomenal X
Series:Hard Knocks #1
Author:Michelle A. Valentine
Release Date: April 22, 2014
Rating:1 star
Cliffhanger:Yes
HEA:

I hate to be harsh, but there was nothing I found original or exciting about this book. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I really don't think that was it. This is New Adult at it's worst and it didn't make a believer out of me.

With total honesty, I must say that there were several factors that didn't do it for me.

1)The absolute repetitiveness of being told how "Bad Boy" he is and how he is no good for her.

This point is driven home over and over. It takes up the majority of their conversations before they hook up to the point where I was flipping through their conversations. I didn't need him to keep telling her he is bad, no good, not a nice guy, that he'll hurt her, that he uses women but he doesn't want to with her...you get the idea. I got the idea.

"Maybe that's why I came out here-to get mixed up with the wrong kind of man and make a few mistakes."
He smiles and takes my hand. "You shouldn't say things like that to a man who's a walking mistake, and one who would like nothing better than to take you home with him."

"Believe me beautiful, I'm bad fucking news. A nice girl like you should run away from me as quick as you can."

Ok, so he's told her that he's no good, now he has permission to fuck up because he warned her, right? No. If you don't want to treat this kind, sweet, good girl badly who you're so protective of, just don't do it. Well, I guess he needed to live up to his reputation.

2)

And my most hated young heroine response to manwhoring-Yes he's a slut, but he's HOT. He's sweet.

I wish he wasn't so damn good looking. It makes staying mad at him ridiculously difficult.

3) Their "relationship" consists of one week of "friendship" where they flirt and deny their feelings. The second week they have sex, become a couple, and they're in love.

4) It was like a watered down version of Katy Evans' Real...but with unlikable characters.

5) Nettie and Carl the old couple from the diner I loved, I actually liked them better than the main characters. They were so hilarious I actually laughed out loud at their conversations. Why couldn't I feel that way about X and Anna??

This book really was not what I was hoping for or expecting. It was too cliche and over the top. I just didn't feel anything for the two main characters besides frustration and that's being 100% real. Sorry to say, this book was not for me.

Seriously....

I don’t even know where to begin with this. This was one of the most ridiculous books I ever read. It felt so immature and everything was over the top, and the whole insta-forever-i am gonna kill myself if i loose you-love was happening in like 10 days they known each other.

The writing style... dear God... well I can scratch Black Falcon Series by this author from my to-read shelf that's for sure...

The characters... sweet Jesus ... idiots, such idiots that I am speechless.

5 Phenomenal stars*****

 photo 8FA38A49-0D3B-4AD7-9639-FD4C003286A1_zpsp2xjd16o.jpg

Anna Corez is starting a new life, a fresh start moving a way from her controlling father she's been sheltered her whole life living in a good ole Christian home but there's religion and what's right, what's wrong and loving our family unconditionally, what Anna lives is not that at all, she's scared of her father and has not had a happy home so she's leaving to learn how to experience life, make friends and make mistakes too.

Anna is travelling on the plane finally getting away but manages to catch the eye of the one and only Phenomenal X.

Xavier is a professional wrestler on his way home for the first time in two years getting away a bit of time to reflect on his game, He catch's the eye of Anna feeling her eyes on him there is instant attraction between them both and after offering Anna a seat to her after an accident which she needs to clean up he is offering his company for there plane trip.

"I could do things to your body that most women only dream about while reading their dirty romance novels, and I promise you'd fucking enjoy it."

What Xavier doesn't know yet is that Anna has no clue who X is, she's lived a sheltered life and he is shocked by her innocence it's also very refreshing. Xavier also thinks he's a bad man and although he desires Anna and her body he see's how unique, beautiful and pure she is and that stops him from touching her he feels like he needs to protect her from the world and from himself.

 photo 7387298C-732B-4780-8AFA-FB4E95D9FC0F_zpsbrfjooda.jpg

So they make a deal and that is to become friends, she needs a friend in this new life and he wants to keep her safe its a win win, although they WANT each other desperately and their sexual tension is off the charts they need each other in other way for the now.....

And that's how their relationship begins a friendship that becomes WANT, lust and eventually more when they both overcome their feeling towards each other.

"How am I looking at you?" I whisper. He tugs my earlobe lightly with his teeth. "Like you're begging for my touch." He inhales deeply through his nose and then growls, "I haven't even kissed you yet, and I'm already fucking hard. Spend the night with me. let me show you just how good I can make you feel."

"You're fucking sexy, do you know that?" His tongue darts out and he licks my bottom lip, causing my toes to curl. "You're my addiction."

 photo 9DFD3C7C-382D-4BEE-9C89-2F7E15DE6E22_zpsw9rwaibc.jpg

Anna is new to living she's learning new things, by living with her cousin and aunt who are nothing like her father and her cousin getting her a job as a waitress she begins the process of making friends and making new memories', having new experiences.

She's also new to men and more importantly keeping Alpha strong males in her life.

What I did enjoy about Anna is her ability to handle Xavier from early on, with Xavier comes women and she quickly learnt to fight for her right to be with him if it was to be his friend or more, which was quite remarkable for a sheltered woman but really that's another part of why Xavier enjoys Anna.. Refreshing

Xavier

Ahh sweet Xavier although he comes across as a strong Alpha male and a bit of a man whore he really has a heart of gold, he doesn't see that himself but I definitely did. He did nothing but protect his girl but he has a dark past and a dark childhood that is the cause for a lot of his inner turmoil.

I know me. Once I become addicted I won't be able to let go, and I'll drag her down with me. She doesn't deserve that. She deserves more. She deserves so much better than me.

The goodness that pours out of her lights my world up like she's a goddamn angel. She shouldn't want anything to do with a demon like me because I'll taint her.

Xavier is one tortured a hero but put that with one sweet innocent heroine makes fireworks and it worked, I loved this I enjoyed Michelle's falcon rock star series but this was hands down her best work to date I just NEED book two now...

Recommended read to all who love tortured hero's, sizzling chemistry and LOTS of sexual tension then jump right in

I went into reading this book with lower expectations than my last read, and I can honestly say that I was entertained but I did miss the "wow" factor that I get with some books. I will give this a 3.5 stars as I did remain interested in what was going on; but a big reason that I am not going to give the four stars is that I DO NOT LIKE CLIFFIES!!! I felt like the ending literally cut right off at a critical part in the scene. I actually thought maybe I was missing a few pages. *sigh* That has to be one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to reading. The story itself I did enjoy for the most part. I felt it was fairly simple as far as storyline's go, and even though there was somewhat minimal angst; at one point I almost didn't finish the read thanks to Mr. X's actions. I did eventually forgive him; but I will state this: if he does anything like that again...I will NOT finish the next book!!! It needed to be stated!

Basically this is a story that we have gotten from a lot of other books. We have the sheltered, good girl who is very naive and is basically running away from her home and family to experience life and freedom. Then we have the tortured, bad boy who has only two ways of coping with his emotional pain: through fighting and f--king. Oh, and Mr. Phenomenal X as he is known; is a professional wrestler. These two meet on a plane ride to their destination. Right away X, aka; Xavier Cold notices Anna Cortez and is immediately drawn to her. Anna is drawn to him as well; but she does hold on to her values and refuses to join the "Mile High Club" with this playboy! Of course, her putting the breaks on anything sexual, only makes him want her even more. Surprisingly enough though, these two end up going into a friendship at first, instead of jumping in the sack..Even though they are becoming good friends though, Xavier is holding back a large piece of himself and it doesn't sit right with Anna.

As the story continues, certain events happen where it ends up that Anna is hired by Xavier to come on tour with him. She does and begins to fit right into his life. The possessiveness and intensity of Xavier's feelings for Anna is something that I do love. He really did worship her, and he wanted so badly to protect and care for her. He is a bit of a caveman; but I will admit that I do love my heroes to be Alpha to the extreme! Phenomenol X absolutely lives up to my expectation of what a hero should be, and I developed quite the soft spot for him, especially once I found out how awful his childhood was.

While this couple becomes closer, there are outside forces who want to cause waves. Will X and Anna be able to overcome the negativity and be there for one another. Or will they crumble under the pressure? This is their story of how two people from two different walks of life can still fall in love.

Phenomenal X is book one in the "Hard Knocks series; and I will be waiting for the next book to come out! I am looking forward to finding out what will happen between Xavier and Anna. This was my first Michelle A. Valentine book, and I will admit that my curiousity is now piqued on how her other books will be. She is for sure an author who I wish to check out more of her work from! All in all, it was a pleasant read that kept me entertained and reading through the night!

4.5 Phenomenal Stars

Screenshot_1

Anna knows one thing, she wants a fresh start. A life that is not controlled by her father on a leash that is far too short for a woman of twenty-one. Leaving Portland behind and on a flight bound for Detroit to live with her aunt and cousin, Anna is ready to finally start living her life.

Xavier is the kind of man that catches a woman's eye. So locking eyes with the hot brunette on the flight, it wasn't a surprise that he caught her devouring him with that look. But what was a surprise was that she had no idea who he was. Phenomenal X, that is how most know him. Rising pro-wrestling star, womanizer and all around bad-boy.

Screenshot_3

Four hours, that is how long it took for her to get under his skin. A sweetness that he knows is far too pure for a guy like him. A better man would stay away, but X just can't stay away. Even if being her friend is all he can be, at least for now. Tensions remain high as Anna refuses to give into her desires for a man that she knows can't give her what she wants. And that tension grows when she ends up working for him and they are going to be connected at the hip from now on.

But just as Anna starts to knock down some of the walls that Xavier has built the situation changes and he's ready to fight to keep Anna safe, even if he poses far more of a danger to her.

I am a Michelle Valentine fan. I was taken in by her Black Falcon Series and still can't hear a Journey song without thinking about Noel or eat an Oreo without Riff popping into my mind... Xavier fits in perfectly with the collection of book boyfriends, perfectly damaged... just how I like'em.

I was excited when I learned she was going to venture into the world of pro-wrestling for her next hero. This is an area that I am very familiar with, having married a man who dedicated about twenty years to it and for a brief period of time we were involved in a training school and promotion putting on live shows. Pro Wrestling was exposed in some way years ago and has further been exposed by the way it's portrayed present day; but there are still a few things, little secrets that remain between just the boys. This was the main reason why I could not give this a full five stars. The excitement that I felt going into this, being something that was a part of my life for such a long time - ended up being a bit of the cause for my downfall. When X tries to explain what he does and how he explains it; just felt a bit off - having had that conversation with countless guys over the years there is one word that is rarely used in the description. Fake. Scripted, yes. But as much as the matches are pre-determined and choreographed beforehand, fake is just a term that was out of place. It's not a huge deal, but it was just something that struck me right from the start and sort of caused me to wish that I wasn't so familiar with the business so I could just get lost in a fantastic story.

Xavier is hot, protective, sweet and fucked up beyond belief. I was ready to propose holy-book-matrimony when the first glimpse of his past came into view. There is nothing I love better than a hero that is broken. The chemistry between these two was off the charts from the start, each time they found themselves in the same room the electricity was arcing between them. Anna was a well written, strong yet insecure heroine - but not insecure in her feelings but just due to the lack of life experience she had. She was a very strong woman, it just took her a bit to realize that.

She was a tad pushy though - she poked the fuck out of the bear when it came to X's past. I was screaming, slow down you've only known him for a few weeks - he doesn't need to spill it all so soon!

Beyond my own personal issue with this, I enjoyed the hell out of this story and will be groveling for the second book to be released soon. The ending is a bit of a cliff (smallish); but it's not the end of the world type of ending - just one that makes you crave the next book. Another stellar release from MV.

Shortly after boarding the plane, she looks up from her seat and locks eyes with a huge, muscular, drop dead gorgeous man. He makes her feel a bit flushed, and she feels extremely...

She then has a bit of an issue that causes her to find herself in need of a new seat. This lovely mystery man offers her the seat next to him up in first class. People keep asking for his autograph, but Anna has no clue who he is.

Turns out this beautiful mouth watering man's name is Xavier Cold. He is a 28 yr. old famous professional wrestler born and raised in Detroit. He is just the type of bad boy her mother has always warned her about. He is a known playboy, and one of the hottest men in wrestling. To the public and his fans he is known as Phenomenal X. Even though Anna's never heard of him it turns out he has been on the cover of numerous magazines, and is about to start a new season where he will try to go after the championship.

Anna is intrigued with Xavier, and finds him easy to talk to. She is drawn to him, and continues to think about him even after they separate after their flight. Circumstances cause them to cross paths again, and they decide to be friends and hang out together. Xavier is on vacation in his hometown of Detroit for a week before he will go on tour for wrestling.

Xavier is so attracted to Anna, but tries his best to respect her and stay just friends. His two greatest addictions are working out and sex, but he immediately realizes Anna is better than meaningless sex. He right away feels close to her, and wants to protect her.

The two of them become very close, and eventually things become intimate between them. Xavier is a prisoner to his past, and has a lot of issues, and Anna is just wanting a fresh start. They are there for each other, and end up falling hard for one other, and can't stand to be apart.

This book was...

I really enjoyed this story, and LOVED Xavier! I adore a massive, hot guy who is a big teddy bear with the woman he loves. He is so sweet & loving to Anna, and it is easy to fall for him. I can't wait for the next book for their story to continue!

-If I thought he was attractive from a distance that is nothing compared to the sight of him up close. The intensity causes my stomach to flip and my knees grow a little weak.

-He seems like way too much man for me. I don't think I can handle someone so...intense.

-I've never seen someone with such intoxicating eyes. It nearly steals my breath every time I look into them.

-I could tell the second our eyes met that you were a sweet one."

-If I were the kind of girl who did naughty things with random hotties, I would be all over his offer to find out just how phenomenal he is-in a heartbeat. But as things stand, I'm still a good girl.

-That magnetic stare of his, leveled on me, nearly steals my breath. Fire shoots through me from where our hands remain connected and suddenly I crave more of his skin on mine.

-"Have you ever felt a connection with someone without even knowing them? When I look at you, I see goodness. I've not had a lot of good shit happen to me in my life, so when I see something pure, I'm drawn to it."

 photo 0ad16ee7-9a1e-4fdd-8196-3659e887612f.jpg

-"We all have things that haunt us-things we'd like to forget. The key is to not allow them to get in the way of our happiness."

-The good that pours out of her lights my world up like she's a goddamn angel.

-"Sometimes time is irrelevant in understanding the beauty of another person's soul."

-This relationship between us makes me question every moral I've ever been taught, and I can't help but think that one of these days I'm going to chuck them all out the window and just enjoy the "Phenomenal" ride.

-You're protective and strong, and above all else, you have an amazing heart."

-I can't even explain what I'm feeling. All I know is that I want him.

-"Tell me, baby. I want to know you're mine, and that you know you belong to me."

-"I'm yours."

4 Phenomenal Stars!!

Xavier "Phenomenal X" Cold, is a bad boy, who meets good girl, Anna Cortez on a plane from Portland to Detroit and the chemistry between them was off the charts from beginning to end!!!

Sheltered 21 yr old Anna leaves home and abandons her fiancé, a fiancé her father has chosen, because of her controlling and abusive father. Little did she know how much her life will change.... Xavier Cold is Wrestling’s resident playboy bad boy. He knows his appeal and has no problem using it to pick up women.

 photo PicsArt_1483753537925_zps75olqdbe.jpg

When there is a commotion on the plane she realizes that arriving passanger Xavier is a celebrity, a very sexy and obviously a very popular celebrity. Soon she is sitting next to him and he bluntly makes it known to Anna that he is very interested. Xavier is amused and intrigued to find that Anna has no clue who he is, and not impressed by his celebrity status and equally not impressed with his strong sexual overtures during their flight….but secretly she admits he sets her blood on fire.

Once in Detroit Anna realizes that she has lost her cell phone but soon learns that Xavier has it and arranges to meet him which gives Xavier exactly what he wants, to continue his pursuit of Anna. Eventually they become “friends” but it’s obvious Xavier and Anna were both battling the strong attraction they feel for one another but, for entirely different reasons.

“If we smash these fucking friendship rules there’s no going back. Once I have you—that’s it, you’re mine. I won’t allow another man to take what’s mine. Do you understand?”

It was sweet and heartwarming to see the inevitable happen. They were very likeable characters and you will be drawn to them, regardless of how different their personalities were. Xavier has a heartbreaking backstory which explains a lot of his anger issues, mindless hookups, and dark side.

OMG!! The ending!! I’m so glad I waited so long to read this book (which ended with a cliffhanger), now I don’t have to wait to read the conclusion to their story.

*Audiobook review, excellent narration.

3.75 Stars!

Well…what can I say…It was an okay read! There is nothing wrong with the story (besides the annoying heroine and the cliffy) but it just lacked the ‘WOW moment’.

"You’re everything to me. I’d trade my very soul to protect you, because you’re worth it.”

So…Anna is running away from an overprotective and controlling father who is also very religious. She wants NEEDS a change so she decides to go live with her aunt and cousin in Detroit. But what she doesn’t know is that her life will totally change from the moment she steps in the plane. On the flight towards her ‘new beginning’ she meets Xavier (Phenomenal X)- the newest superstar of professional wrestling. He is strong/ He is sexy/ He is a bad boy/ He wants her.

Xavier is intrigued by this good girl. He wants her even if that means they will be only friends. He doesn’t push her because he believes he is not good for her. But that doesn’t stop him from protecting her. And when she needs a new job…he is there to offer her the position of his PA. But this ‘living together’ is going to put their ‘friendship’ on a serious test.

“You’re special to me, Anna, and I want to keep you forever”

Okay…so I will start will what I didn’t like and this was the heroine. This ‘I am a good girl and we can only be friends’ act was just too much as she was doing it for 70% of the book! o_O

The other problem I had is related to this statement:

“Don’t think for one second that I’m not a monster, because I am. I can’t change who or what I am. I hate to disappoint you, but I’m not a hero. I’m the fucking villain in this story.”

If I have to be honest, this particular quote made me one-clicked this book. Well…Xavier is hardly a villain. If I have to categorize him he is a damaged alpha hero. His character is quite a cliché. That doesn’t mean I didn’t like him because I really did! But I feel somehow mislead because the way Xavier was acting and the things he was saying were absolute opposites. He mentions few times he is a monster but then there is nothing bad about him!

Anyway…like I said…I actually liked it. I will definitely read the next book in the series because I wasn’t expecting a cliffy…and it was a mean one. The story is sweet and entertaining. Just don’t expect something extraordinary ;)

This book was amazing. I loved the characters (but Xavier a little more than Anna), the way Anna and Xavier met, the steam and Xavier’s (few and short but important) chapters. Xavier is damaged. He immediately likes Anna and he wants her. Anna is ready to start a new life and to be independent. She’s attracted to Xavier, but she wants to focus on her own life for now. Xavier doesn’t give up on Anna without a fight. Xavier is so caring, protective and sweet to Anna. Anna loves Xavier just like he is. There is some push and pull between them, but they will be a solid, hot and beautiful couple in the end. The book ends with a cliffhanger that already made me read the first chapters of the next book.

Admittedly I know NOTHING about the world of professional wrestling. So going into Phenomenal X the only thing I had going through my mind was......

Yes, that's what I thought about. Admittedly, there was a time or two while reading the book I seriously considered standing on the back of my couch as if it was the top rope of the ring and fling myself off. Alas, I'm not really into broken bones so I refrained. That's a guaranteed one way ride in .....

and that my friends would interrupt my reading time and NOTHING interrupts my reading time.

Michelle did a fantastic job developing the characters of Anna & Xavier "X". Anna is the quintessential good girl that's branching out by herself, expanding her wings and leaving home. She comes from a controlling environment which leads to her "growing" once she is out from under her father's control.

Xavier well he's a bad boy and once he meets Anna, in quite an unusual way, he just knows..

He admits to it but he can't give up the little bit of good Anna brings into his life. You will see when you read this one exactly how their relationship develops.

I experienced quite a range of emotions while reading Phenomenal X. Our first glimpse of X through Anna's eyes made me want to .......

Oh this bad boy is HOT!!!! and he also is quite endearing in his own unique way. I loved the fact he couldn't stay away from her despite what he "thought" was for the best. I also had a few moments where I...

There were a couple parts in this book where something's were misunderstood and some things were just plain ......

even with an explanation I felt like that. As with any good book there's always a character you just can't stand and if we're lucky there's two. Well there were definitely a couple ladies that I wanted to smack around but then I thought....

why waste my energy on them... When Michelle delved deeper into the character of Xavier there were points where I thought...

there were so many....

There's a time in the book where something comes up and what it was had me....

and I kept telling Anna just.....

and.....

I was so really angry at this point of the book. I saw what could go down and knew it would be a recipe for disaster. Let me just say what I thought would go down didn't and what did left me....

Oh boy!! It was about this time I noticed that I didn't have that much more left to read of Phenomenal X. I would have to say I started to...

and when I got to the end I realized okay there's an ending but I need more and I want ....

What's going to happen next? I have this deep rooted feeling that Anna & Xavier's journey has just started and that it's going to be a very bumpy road for the two of them. There are definite issues these two well need to work out and face and I'm praying they face these together!

Phenomenal X was a 5 star read for me. I love to watch a character grow and become in charge of themselves and take a stand. I loved how beautifully the relationship developed between the two. Nothing is supposed to be easy and it definitely wasn't that. X recognizes Anna for who she is, good, and it just broke my heart that he doesn't recognize who he is. His image of himself is one that was formed as a result of his past and when you learn his reasoning's behind why he wrestles professionally for a living, besides money, I swear it will break your heart.

I have to say for an author who just wrapped up a fabulous series that I immensely loved she has really showed me that she can bring it! There is depth in this book. It's not all about the.....

sex and believe me there is PLENTY of that! I think in the end we are going to find two characters who find themselves, each other and the opportunity to break free from horrific pasts. I can't wait.....

An ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. I also purchased the book because this one I highly recommend and if you don't read this then Killa Kim is going to...

HA! Just kidding :)

Oh Dear. This is going to be a though one. 3 stars is being good to the author. … I usually don’t do gifs, but this is worth the effort!

When I think of professional wrestling this is what I see: (because it totally sucks!)EEEEEEEK!

Maybe if I can picture X, this guy would do:

I was expecting more, really…. This book was one cliché after another and I almost made it a DNF.. and then a cliffy….. *yawns*

A naïve girl, 21 years old leaves her controlling father to “live life”. Meets X in plane, X comes to her, girls plays hard to get and constantly doubts herself. X keeps pursuing her, girl keeps thinking she’s is not that pretty, X keeps pushing to be “friends”, girl gets job, X goes to girls job and offers her an assistant job, girl denies job, X was currently banging other assistant, girl gets fired from job and accepts assistant job.

All of this during the span of a week. Then girl goes with X, does nothing regarding job and bangs X. They declare their love some days later (no more than 2 weeks pass). X has broken past, girl comforts him…. And X does something stupid and cliffy…. *yawns*

I’m sorry… I didn’t like it… Total waste of my precious reading time. Bye Now!!!

I call foul on there being no real entertainment wrestling until the 70%! We learn that his entrance song is X Going Give It To Ya by DMX but never learn his signature wrestling move. Come on, give the people what they came here for!!!!

Look, middle school me who gasped when Stephanie McMahon decided to stay with Triple H, cheered for the Hardy Boyz, and named a gold fish Lita, kept reading this book and rated it. This honestly read like middle/high school entertainment wrestling fan fiction with its syurp-y sweet heroine and over-the-top damaged background, lacking much of a personality (we do get three or four povs from the hero), and borderline scary possessive big sexy dude. The protection of a grizzly but mostly acts like pooh bear; his personality was definitely off kilter.

This was so over-the-top and dreamy girl fan fiction-y and it's a book one, as in the heroine and hero's story doesn't end. This was fine for a slight nostalgic trip to my old WWE fan days (no mention of this in the story, just with it staring a wrestler it made me think back to those characters) but I'll be stopping here and not continuing with their story.

Phenomenal X definitely has my flipflopping all over the place for this damn review. There were some parts I liked, others I didn't, and a whole lot of boring ass parts in between. Now I will admit, while drinking lots and lots of wine, I liked the book.. but when I went back and looked at my BR comments.. yeah I didn't really love the book like I originally thought.

Oh looky, another Anna character. Well she was annoying for a lot of the book. UGH she annoyed me to no end. I did like her when there was smut.. that was mostly because Xavier was there. The chemistry between the two of them was amazing. Which is probably why I rated the book the way I did. If these two didn't have fire-worthy chemistry.. then I would've rated it a lot lower. It was also refreshing how not everything was so instantaneously between the two of them.

The one thing that super annoyed me was the GOD DAMN CLIFFHANGER. Seriously! So FREAKING mad! Even though I totally saw it coming but I also.. didn't see it coming in a way?!? I don't know if that even makes sense. Like I totally saw him beating the crap out of someone (when it comes to Anna of course) but like somehow she was going to somehow make him stop but then never go to him until it was too late? I don't know.. maybe I'm still salty about that confusion/cliffhanger.. but hot damn I dove right into that second book.

Now I need to finish that said book ASAP. Overall, it was a pretty good book. I could've dealt with less annoyance from Anna but hey.. beggars really can't be choosers in this sort of situation. I need my Xavier back!!

This review has SPOILERS! Please STOP if you haven't read this book yet!!!

I'm 50% in, and I want to kill both Anna and Xavier. I want them to die a slowly, painful death. And anna's cousin too, Quinn.
Anna has no backbone whatsoever. I get that she was sheltered, but she forgot her self-estim in her mother's womb or she's just plain stupid. And seriously, she gets mad at Xavier when he says that he is not the marrying type. At this time they've only known each other for 48 hours!! Gah!
And Xavier, he slept with another woman. That's not exactly the fact that he slept with another woman that irks me. They weren't in a relationship so, ok no problem. But it's the fact that as a way of explanation he says "she stripped in front of me, and I caved in a moment of weakness". That excuse is so so laaaaaaame!
And don't get me started on Quinn. This woman, no, this girl, is on her way of running a brothel. She is the worst, the absolute worst you can find as a best friend. She thinks about sex, about having men eating in your hand, about having sex sex sex. Okay so she's a nympho, but an unconscious one at that!!! The first night Anna is in town, she basically drags her to a bar to embrace her inner slut (I don't see any other way to put it) and when they dance she says to Anna to "shake her hair, because guys love it!" Of course, because sending the message that your are superficial and only interested in teasing guys is what you want. And then some guys give them drink, and she starts drinking without caring that these guys are strangers and that they roofied their drinks! It was good that Xavier saw it and stopped them but it was too late for me.

All of this "rant" is only my opinion. A lot of people loved this book so don't let my review stop you.
The only I really want to stress about is that Quinn's behavior is appaling. I'm 26 so I know better than to accept random drinks or let a friend convince me that emotionless sex is the answer to happiness, but if a teenage girl of 15 was to discover life this way it would be a very bad message in my opinion.

I will finish the book, I think. But I needed to let it out there because it was driving me crazy how much I disliked the characters.

Now it's a free country, don't throw any rocks at me. If you liked it I'm glad for you ;-)

I just finished the book. FINALLY it's over!!! I HATE them all!!! I killed Anna at least a thousand times in my head. I kept hoping she would be run over by a freaking bus! Or a tank!
Another thing. I didn't realise that it was a two books serie. It's notified on amazon so it was just me not paying attention. But it made me want to kill them more. There is a cliffhanger and i hate these.
Anyway, I've rarely encountered an heroine so dumb. She's dumbstruck when she meets a woman who has a child out of wedlock. It's actually as if she's coming face to face with a wild extinct specie or something. And she read online some stupid shit about the fact that you can't get pregnant on certain days of your cycle. Yeah way to teach the young about protection. WEAR CONDOMS!!! It's not a suggestion.

So in short:
I hated the story but that's on me. It's only my opinion and if you want to give a go, have at it. It's the only way to judge a book.
But I can't get over the fact that the ideas exposed in this book are wrong.
-never drink a beverage given by a stranger in a bar. Even if it's Ryan freaking Gosling.
-don't allow your friends to make you think it's okay or feminist to use your charms on men and that it will make you beautiful. It makes you cheap. It's great to be desired for who you are. If you need to put yourself on display or play games to get a man's attention, then the guy don't deserve you in the first place.
-do not, EVER say a guy it's okay to not wear a condom because you're close to an orgasm. Or he is. Or whatever. There is no reason good enough on earth to bypass the condom when you don't have medical confirmation that both party are clean AND (not or) that you have some kind of feminine contraception.

Here, I said my part.
Peace on Earth and long life to all the books lovers, because even when you don't like a book you still go on to the next one ;-)

2.5 good start, daft ending stars.

This started so well, I was really into it. And then I wasn't. *big sigh*

Anna meets Xavier on a plane. She's moving away from her crazily strict father. He's a ripped and gorgeous s'leb wrestler she's never heard of called Phenomenal X. She's attracted to him but also scared of him because he represents everything she's been denied by her dad and her upbringing.

Some cute and flirty banter later and he's popping up wherever she goes, wanting to become friends. They spend some chaste yet lust-charged time together and things were paced nicely, the chemistry was sizzling away and nobody was rushing into insta-love (or lust). I was loving it.

Then, in the blink of an eye she's working for him and things move up a few gears. At this point the story began to lose me. Firstly because their relationship suddenly moved at breakneck speed but mainly the wrestling thing. I'm not sure whether X was supposed to be a sports star or an actor or a combination of the two, but the lines were blurred in and outside of the ring and I found it hard to care. X got wound up by a rival wrestler. Even Anna seemed to forget she'd only stopped being a good girl a week ago and started handing out beeatchy slap downs. I was a little bewildered and it all felt a tad forced and phoney to me.

This ends on a cliffhanger so be prepared to read the next book to get the full story, you don't get it all in this part.

Well if you ever wondered how many clichés can fit into one book then this book is the answer.

A lot!

Bad boy a.k.a. fucks everything that moves because he has a dick and why not use it.

Good girl a.k.a so fucking naive it's called stupid not good anymore.

Phenomenal love a.k.a all the drama is pouring down on them and they're surrounded by bitches and assholes.

So, there, that pretty much sums it up.

Will properly review at some point.

Phenomenal X has all of the ingredients of a great book. Although the scenario is similar to many other books (hard, abused, bad boy alpha meets tender, sweet, almost virgin heroine), I found the characters in this read to be extremely likable and the writing style natural. This book reminds me of Remy and Brooke (one of my all time favorite couples) and yet I feel like Anna and Xavier are just beginning.

description

Anna is sweet and has spent her life doing everything she was supposed to do! She almost married a man that she didn't love just to appease her conservative Christian parents. She decides to make a break from her home (and domineering father) in Portland to Detroit. It is on the plane that she meets Xavier.

Xavier (unbeknownst to Anna) is a famous professional wrestler. He is immediately drawn to Anna and finds away to get close to her. He even tries to hit on her. Anna is completely overcome with lust and interest for Xavier, and yet she knows that nothing could ever happen between the two of them.

As Anna arrives to the safety of Detroit, she finds solace in her Aunt and cousin. Xavier has made his way into her life and pursues her. Although there is still a great deal of chemistry between these two, they make an arrangement to be just friends.

"Rule number one: no getting naked in my bed. Rule number two: no kissing."

Xavier and Anna become fast friends. She knows there is more there than just friends!

"This relationship between us makes me question every moral I've ever been taught, and I can't help but think that one of these days I'm going to chuck them all out the window and just enjoy the "Phenomenal" ride." -Anna

Just when Anna might be willing to give in to her desires, the evil ex (every story has one) rears her ugly head. Of course, Anna runs! As if things couldn't get worse for our sweet heroine, she then looses her job. Luckily for her, Xavier has plenty of money and needs a new assistant (remember that evil ex?).

As Anna makes her way with Xavier on the road, you can guess what happens next. These two just cannot get enough of each other!

"If we smash these friendship rules there's no going back. Once I have you- that's it, your mine. I won't allow another man to take what's mine. Do you understand?"- Xavier

The journey is rough. Xavier is tormented by his past. He feels unworthy of love. Anna is equally damaged by her upbringing. Although she wants to give Xavier her love, she just isn't strong enough. Can Anna survive the spotlight of the paparazzi? Can Xavier find the worth in himself to give Anna the love she deserves?

description

Overall, Phenomenal X was a great read. I absolutely ADORED Xavier. I will never get tired of reading a story of a man (or woman) that has risen from adversity to make something beautiful for themselves. At times, Anna would get on my nerves a bit. I do like her. However, she is just so immature and needs to get a little kick of "stand up for yourself juice"! I have faith that Anna will get it together and begin to grow into an amazing woman!

description

I also found that after all of the tension of trying to stay away, the initial connection (intimately speaking) happened so fast. Although I was happy when it did, they went from friends to together in a matter of pages. Still, as I stated earlier, I was so engrossed in the story that I really didn't care. Xavier has to be the sweetest protector out there.

description

There is a slight cliffy at the end of this book (not a painful though). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book and I look forward to the next installment of their story!
