Oceans Away–Want To Be a Sailor?

This is a great book that has lots of good information about the Navy, especially life on an aircraft carrier. This is geared towards children who can read, with pictures on every page. It is softbound, contains fifty-one pages and is slightly over-sized.

In this book, a young boy name Noah and his little sister, Marina, go on an outing with their grandfather. Their grandfather, a former Navy man, wants to take them on a tour of an aircraft carrier. As the story un

I absolutely love this series from Wigu Publishing. I have read several of their other books in the series including U.S. Army, Teacher, and Firefighter and loved them all.

In this book, Noah, his sister Marina, and his Grandpa Ed get to tour an aircraft carrier. Grandpa Ed is a Navy veteran and is able to give Noah and Marina a complete tour and explanation of all the areas of the ship. Noah and Marina are typical a brother and sister and their antics make the story relatable to children.

Written at the level of the child in the second half of elementary school, this book is a combination of history of the navy, a description of the role of the aircraft carrier in the American armed forces and a recruitment tool. Noah and his sister Marina are excited at being given a thorough tour of a modern, nuclear powered aircraft carrier.
The foundation of the story is constructed of images from a carrier, sometimes the images of Noah and Marina are superimposed and in other cases they are

I was really excited to get the opportunity to review another book from Wigu. I used to be a Navy wife and my husband was out to sea a lot. In truth though, I did not get to visit and see the real inner workings of the U.S. Naval ships. So, this was a fun read for me.

The cartoons of the children and Grandpa I found to be a little corny among the real photos of hard working men and women of the U.S. Navy. However, given that this is a children's book I can somewhat over look it. I suppose it woul

I received a complimentary paperback copy of When I Grow Up I Want To Be...In The U.S. Navy via Bostick Communications in exchange for review. I secured this book for our 8 year old daughter to enjoy, and it proved not only to be a more challenging read, but also delightfully engaging. She even asked, "Are these pictures real?!" How cute! We really enjoyed reading this book separately, and also together. At some points she was shouting! She could really relate to this book, for instance when eve ...more
