Charlie is back for another adventure out on the ranch. When the sun rises, Charlie is ready to tackle the difficult chore of corralling the cows back to where they belong. After a successful run of it, he encounters a stubborn calf who seems not to know how it all works. While chasing down young Abigail, Charlie falls into a sticky mud puddle. The more he tries to get out, the gooier things get for him. Thankfully, Mama soon tracks him down and all is well again. In Neo's adventure to become a better reader, this story was interesting for him. He liked being able to pick out certain words and was really pleased when he could identify them without hints. While not the most enthralling stories, we may keep this series going to see how Charlie does in life on the ranch.

These Charlie the Ranch dog books are so great! They give 'city' children and insight to what living on a farm is about. These books are an easy read so a beginning reader could learn to read on them as well.

Charlie the dog wants to go out with his Mama and help rangle cows. A calf is stuck so Charlie tries to help. But he gets stuck as well. But his mama comes and helps get them both out and they are both okay; even after a bath!

This book is about Charlie the Ranch Dog. He goes in mud and then he gets stuck in the mud and then he chased the little cow and then he ran with the horse and he got all muddy up, all gooey and he was not barking and then they got the flurry towel ro wrap him up and Charlie was chasing a cow.

Charlie was chasing the cow that's how he got stuck in the mud. Charlie got stuck in the mud because he was chasing the cow. Charlie was chasing the cow because Abigail was not in the herd. A cattle is a herd of cows. Mama knew that Charlie was stuck because Charlie was howling. Charlie told his legs to lift up. When they go out to the fields it is day time. It is morning. I think Charlie felt nervous. I think Charlie felt nervous because he was all muddy in the mud because he was stuck. Charlie hates mud. I would be mad, nervous and gross if I got stuck in the mud because it would be in my mouth.

I haven't read the original that this book was based on, but it looks like I didn't miss much. This is the first book in the series I've read.

This was told from the dog's point of view. Of course, the dog doesn't really know what's going on half the time, so the reader doesn't, either. For example -- why is there a chipmunk in most of the illustrations?

Apparently, the fictional Charlie is based on the author's Bassett Hound. I hope that dog doesn't go on real cattle drives, as there's no way that dog could keep up for long. Getting stuck in ghe mud was probably the best thing that could've happened to him.

This book teaches the lesson that even in stressful situations you need to keep calm. This is a great book to get young kids into reading because the story is very fun and fast pace. It also, has talking animals and kids love talking animals.
