Scaredies Away! A Kid's Guide to Overcoming Worry and Anxiety
Eight-year-old Jack is scared...of the dark...of swimming in the ocean...and of riding the biggest roller coaster on the boardwalk. Jack usually runs away from what scares him. Most people do! But now that his cousin Clay has taught him how to overcome his fears all on his own, Jack is ready to take on the world! And with the Magic Finger Countdown, you will be too! Scaredies Away demonstrates a simple and effective technique called the Magic Finger Countdown which is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The technique is used for conquering fear in almost any situation-from staying in a big kid bed at night, to imaginary monsters in the closet, to talking in front of a group. Children do not have to live with debilitating fear and anxiety. Behavior can be changed, and anxiety can be transformed into a sense of personal power. Read this book with your children or students, explore the Afterword for tips on implementing the technique, and encourage children to try the Magic Finger Countdown in any situation where they feel afraid.

This is a really good book for children dealing with anxiety. Jack is an anxious little boy who goes on a family vacation and wishes he could participate in the fun. His big cousin Clay seems fearless as he rides the waves and surfs in the ocean. Clay tries to get Jack to join him surfing but Jack lets him know he can't do it. Clay then tries to get him on the roller coaster but Jack is too nervous to ride that too. Clay than shares with Jack that everyone gets nervous and explains how he deals with it when it happens to him. He teaches him to ball up his fist and pretend all the butterflies from his stomach are inside his fist. he tells him to hold them tight and when he's ready to let them go open his hand one finger at a time then blow them all away. this doesn't work the first time Jack tries it, but he tries it again and he overcomes his anxiety. His cousin is proud of him and Jack now has a new way to deal with his anxiety.

This is a wonderfully reassuring and thoughtfully designed book for children who struggle with worry or anxiety and for the adults who want to support them. I really appreciated how *Scaredies Away!* presents a serious topic in a gentle, engaging, and age appropriate way, using a relatable story, colorful illustrations, and simple language that never feels overwhelming. The Magic Finger Countdown technique is easy to understand and empowering, helping kids feel capable rather than “broken” when they’re afraid. Just as valuable is the parent guidance section, which offers clear insight and practical support without being clinical or intimidating. Overall, this book feels compassionate, hopeful, and genuinely helpful a comforting resource that encourages children to face fears with confidence while reminding parents that they’re not alone in helping their child feel safe again.

I can't read this.
It is setup not to be adjusted and unless you are one desktop with a full screen.. the type is just to small. Even then it still might not be readable.
