A historical story of the love affair of late King Mahendra of Nepal with Gita who worked in his palace as a servant when the King was a prince. Their love affair gave birth to Rabindra Shah who could not be the prince of Nepal but was thrown out of the palace along with his mother Gita as he was the son of the mistress, though he was the eldest son and by law the he was the next in line for the throne.

This is a story of lust, love,power struggle, social pressure, politics in Nepal in the early and late sixties . This is a story of how strong a woman can be when all the wall around her caves in.

I heard this book in audio which was divided into twelve episodes. I was totally immersed in the story and discovered my new love for Nepali literature.
I totally enjoyed the story.

Interesting book like an interesting history based TV drama. Here the major characters are Geeta(Durbar Bahiri Ko Maharani) and King Mahendra along with Indra Rajya , Ratna Rajya along with King Birendra and King Rajendra.
The most touching part of the story was the experience of Geeta(Durbar Bahira ki Maharani) and the impact of the class she belonged to had with her life.
Additionally the power struggle that takes place between people of different class has also been shown appropriately.

गीता महारानी निकै दृढ, सचेत र आत्मबल भएको पात्र जस्तो लाग्यो। आफ्नो जीवन मात्र होइन, छोराको भविष्य बचाउन उनले गरेको प्रयास, त्याग र निडरता अत्यन्तै सम्मानजनक र प्रेरणादायी थियो।
तर केही समयरेखा र घटनाहरू अलिकति नमिलेको जस्तो पनि लाग्यो। कतिपय प्रसङ्गमा पर्याप्त विवरण नभएकाले अलि भ्रम पनि सिर्जना भयो। कथामा अझ गहिराइमा जान्न मन भए पनि, सुन्दै सुन्दै कथा सकियो जब कि मलाई पुगेकै थिएन।
समग्रमा भने कथा निकै मन छुने र प्रभावशाली थियो जस्ले गर्दा अब त झन् ममा यस्तो विषयमा थप पढ्ने उत्सुकता बढेको छ।

यो ईतिहासमा आधारित उपन्यास हो। यसमा लेखकले राजा महेन्द्रको अनौपोचारिक श्रीमती गीता गुरुङ्गको कहानी भन्ने प्रयास गरेका छन्। यो उपन्यासमा त्यो बेला दरबारमा हुने विसंगतीको बारेमा लेख्ने प्रयास गरेका छन्। यो कहानी गीताको दृष्टिकोणबाट भनिएको दरबारको कहानी हो। यो कति सत्य छन् कति अतिरन्जित छन्, त्यो त थाहा भएन। तर पढ्दा रमाइलो भने अवस्य लाग्छ।

लेख्ने शैली त्यति रमाइलो छैन। गल्ति हरु थुप्रा छन् , कति ठाउँमा मुसा मार्न तोप नै पड्काएको जसरी भाषा र शब्दहरु खर्च गरेका छन्। यसमा लेखकले लेख्ने भाषा, शैली र शब्दहरुको राम्रोसँग चयन गर्न नसकेको जस्तो लाग्यो मलाई।

समग्रमा पढ्दा चाँही रमालो नै लाग्छ।

Well told story, which I believe, is among the missing pieces of history that is not very distant.
This kind of stories makes me think, could people who are in such high position, who are/were prayed/treated as God behave in such manners! It never seizes to sadly surprise me to read the durbar stories.

Best book if you wanna explore our Monarchy System back then. This book can literally take you to the time when King Mahendra was in the throne. I have searched alot about Ravindra and Geeta , just to see how they look like. Haven't found a single picture.

Propaganda at it's best, A fictional story in disguise of historical fact. To those people who think Rabindra shah didn't get Justice, don't forget he was not the legitimate child, only legitimate child born out of wedlock qualify to become the king. And in my opinion the mother son duo got enough respect from the place.
