They called her the Ice Queen.

Anne Winters. Self-made billionaire. Household name. Divorced single mom. Convicted felon. She didn’t let anyone or anything get to her. No one was allowed to breach the walls around her heart except for her own son. She had only one trusted friend: her vacation house neighbor. They’d been walking the beach together for twenty years. was another heartfelt, beautiful romance by Laura Florand, and as usual, I was awed by her writing talents. She makes you feel so profoundly with her words that I always come away from her stories moved emotionally. I swear, every time I read one of her books I’m tearing up at least once because I’m overcome by feelings.

Mack Corey is a character I’ve met through his daughter’s, Cade and Jaime’s, stories. He’s a fifty-three year old widower, but also the owner of Cory Chocola

I have a thing for best friend turned lovers stories and this one is so good. I also really enjoyed that it was about an older couple also dealing with things like their children getting married and moving on with their lives. I'm nowhere near that phase of life yet, but I can imagine it isn't going to be easy. I enjoyed how Mack and Anne balanced and smoothed each other out. I have always liked the character of Mack in the other chocolate books. He's such a great dad and it was fun to get to se ...more

Sun-Kissed is a beautifully written coda to Florand's Amour et Chocolat Series. Bringing together Mack Corey, the father (or father-figure) to three of the heroines from this previously six-book series) as well as Anne Winters, the mother of Kurt from Snow-Kissed, Florand ties together the loose threads in this extended family of French chefs, chocolate-lovers, and emotionally strong individuals who have found love, often in the most unlikeliest of places. Without a doubt, I'd r
So Laura Florand is one of those authors that I'd put in the "my friends love her, but she doesn't work for me." Not firmly so, but I hadn't liked The Chocolate Thief that well. The writing didn't click with me. But some of her books still intrigued me, so she was someone I was willing to give a second chance to.

And all my friends seemed to be reading this today and Jess lent this to me and SO GOOD.

It's a simple love story in the best way. No external conflict. No silly obstacles. Just two best
Laura Florand delivers a poignant, gritty, and, as always, ultimately tenderly human love story.

If you have been reading the (Amour et Chocolat as voraciously as I have you will adore this romance between Mark Corey and his best friend Anne Winters (mogul of a Martha Stewart like empire complete with the recent prison stay). You will love seeing each of the couples at Jamie's wedding.

However, even if you aren't already a fan of the season, this short romance has so much to ensnare you. We have
I wanted to love this book, as it has many things I like in romances: an older hero and heroine, and a friends to lovers stories. We also get cameos from many of the characters in the author's other books in her Love and Chocolate series. Unfortunately, I just didn't love it, and in fact, it's very difficult for me to grade. Parts of the book were just beautiful, particularly one scene between Anne and her son towards the end of the book. But large portions of the book just dragged. I prefer a b ...more

Favorite Quote: “Never put off tomorrow the hot sex you could be having today. You just never know what might happen.”

I absolutely adore Laura Florand’s books and when I heard her latest featured protagonists that are in their fifties, I was greatly intrigued. Further, the heroine was recently in prison. Yes! Bring it.

Anne Winters is a self-made billionaire. Having a magazine empire and being brilliant at interior design and crafting, Anne has been quite successful in business. Her personal life

1st read 5/12/14: Very, very nice! Happy sigh...

This novella features Cade & Jaime's dad from The Chocolate Thief and The Chocolate Touch, as well as the mother-in-law from Snow-Kissed.

Plot thoughts: I'm not a huge fan of Martha Stewart, or her insider-trading, so I was predisposed not to feel too sympathetically towards Anne. But, since this was by Florand, I read it. (Believe me, if it were by anyone else, I'd be staying far FAR away from this type of plot. Probably because I strongly believe

I laughed, I cried (with joy), and I sighed:)

The heroine, Anne Winters, is so unemotional and perfectionistic, that I would have probably hated her if I met her; same goes for Mack Corey, whose competitiveness and ego would have had me running in the opposite direction. Two strong personalities either love or hate each other. Because Laura Florand gave me insight into why they both acted the way they do, I fell in love with them both as much as they fell in love with each other.

I was so surprised when Laura Florand first posted a snippet of this on her blog - I love how she chose to tie up Snow-Kissed with the Amour et Chocolat series. I didn't even know that Mack and Anne knew each other! This was a lovely romance between an older couple (parents of the main characters in other books). I think it's great that we got to know both Anne and Mack better, beyond the perspectives of their children. Theirs is a sweet romance that has a strong foundation based on 20 years of ...more
4.5 stars!!!! HOW IS IT THAT SNOW-KISSED AND SUN-KISSED MADE ME FEEL SO MUCH THINGS!!!!! I cried in this one too. I also thought it was the sexiest book in the series so far, the romance/love/relationship just made so much sense and I just loved that Laura Florand chose to write a story for an older couple, because romance is not just for younger people!!!! Plenty of older people find love too! Argh I loved these two, Mack and Anne were so perfect together, they challenged, supported, snipped an ...more

I have never read this author before but this was such an interesting story. I didn't even realize the characters were in their 50's. But damn they were absolutely perfect for each other. You just want to root for them and their happy ending. If you are in need of something different in the romance department this might be for you.
old people having hot sex is something...... hmmm....... interesting.......
no seriously, it was such a nice little read, full of warm feelings and nice family/friends interactions and all the daddy bits were so CUUUUTE!!

PS: i totally see naomi watts as anne and my brain just screamed gay alert for those hundred pages

Twenty years they've been neighbors, Ann Winters had been divorced all of that time, single mom to one son and highly successful, wealthy, independent self-made woman and never as much as in this last year had she felt the importance of the friendship they had developed.

Every morning they went for a walk together as friends, Mack Corey, billionaire business man and father of two daughters had been a widower for fifteen years and was gra

I read this last night in one sitting. I want to preface this review by saying that Laura Florand's books are amazing. The Chocolate Thief was one of my top books for 2013--maybe THE top book--and I recommended it to nearly everyone I talk to. I also adored Jaime and Dom's book (Dom was absolutely sexy and absolutely adorable and Jaime's strength in the face of all she went through slayed me). I also thought Summer Corey and Luc Leroi's book was fab and LOVED the novella with Patrick Chevalier. ...more

Laura has quickly become my go-to author. Her novels are automatic purchases for me. I have a nice collection of keeper copies (actual books!)of hers that are well-read and cherished. To me, her storytelling is warm soft blanket on a chilly day perfection. The comfort of her dreamily detailed writing, the utmost care she takes with the development of plot, themes and dialogue and the love suffused among and between her larger than life, but realistically flawed characters are all effortlessly an ...more

Subtly Sublime

What happens when your children find love and you are looking in at their happiness? We met Anne Winters, Kurt's Martha Stewart-esque mother, in "Snow Kissed" and Mack Corey is Cade (Chocolate Thief) and Jaime (Chocolate Touch) father. Anne and Mack have been neighbors and friends for 20 years, having lived through Mack's wife's death, the growth of both their and their children's careers, a friendly conversation that turned into scandal convicting Anne of insider trading, and now

I love a lot of authors, but Laura Florand is just on another level for me. I KNOW I will fall in love with her heroes. She's had a few heroines I had to grow to love. But her male characters ALWAYS have the biggest hearts and romantic streaks of any author that I read. They ALWAYS have such emotional clarity about their own feelings and what they want in life. NO ONE can tell a male POV that I enjoy more than Laura Florand.

I loved Mick. I loved his irritation at his sons-in-law. I loved Anne.

I am usually a fan of Laura Florand's work. Maybe I am just not a fan of novellas. It was so short, but it was also incredibly dull. Part of a great romance novel is the build up. There was zero build up here. It starts at the wedding of Jaime and Dom (glad to see them again because I loved them). It is obvious Mack is in love with Anne. So there are a lot of pages where they talk about their family, then Mack comes onto Anne, then there is a lot of eavesdropping on conversations other people ar ...more

I didn't expect to love this one, BUT I SUPER LOVED THIS ONE.

Everything about their romance absolutely worked for me, I bawled through half of this book (but it was never emotionally manipulative) and I love both Mack and Anne SO SO SO much.

Beautiful, sweet and funny. A real friends to lovers storyline involving an older couple that illustrates how true friendship makes for a great romance. AND the sex ain't so bad, call it extremely hot!
Oh, damnit, I'm crying again. This book just tears my heart out, so much happiness and hope and love. It's impossible to read the wedding scene without thinking of my own parents, and seeing those pieces of their life painted with happiness and romance is such a wonderful experience.

I LOVED this look into Mack Corey's love life. He's such a great dude and TOTALLY CAN STILL GET IT. All the look at the kids was so cute. They just want their parents to be happy!
