All of her life, Bree had been treated badly by men. According to her mother, it was just the way it was with the women in her family and there was no point in trying to fight it. There was no sense in dreaming about Prince Charming right out of the story books, he just didn't exist. She had to accept her fate and move on. It was as simple as that.
Bree craved love. She longed for a man to promise her his heart and soul and protect her from the monsters that she had grown accustomed to. She prayed that her mother was wrong and that one day he would find her.
A survivor of sexual abuse, I have recently written the true account of my childhood, titled: Life After Hell: Surviving Sexual Abuse. I have tried to convey what happened to me as well as my journey to finally getting justice.
A lot of my real life experiences have gone into my fictional works - especially my first book The Man of My Dreams, where I created a vigilante vampire that kills rapists and child molesters.....
I've loved Vampires and the paranormal ever since I can remember and always envisaged myself writing a book or two on the subject! I have written 5 books in The Dream Series so far: The Man of my Dreams, Be Careful What You Wish For, The Chosen One, Succubus: An Erotic Companion and A Match Made in Hell. All Paranormal Romance novels with Vampires(of course) as well as a bit of blood and gore thrown in and the 4th one is slightly on the erotic side!
I also recently published a short story (Why Won't Someone Help Me?) about my health issues and the trouble with getting diagnosed or treated for invisible illnesses.
Undeserving is the first novella in the Someone To Love Me Trilogy. This is Bree's story, a young woman who grew up watching her mother suffer abuse and suffered herself at the hands of her father. She thought that with his death things would change. Instead, she and her mother endured more of the same from the men that rolled in and out of her mother's life. Bree wants true love, but can she ever have it, or is she like her mother says, undeserving? My heart broke for Bree because of everything she had to endure. When you meet Bree she is unsure of herself, and lacks confidence. Then she meets Greg and she has hope. She has hope that she found someone to love her, and hope for a happy and normal life. Her life with Greg is wonderful, not only is he wealthy and gorgeous, he dotes on her. After the wedding, however, he changes and the cycle continues.
Quintal has written a story that is heart wrenching, but unfortunately these are things that happen to women every day. Not only was this a good read and a story you couldn't put down, it also brings an issue to light that people need to be aware of. I think Gladys Quintal is very brave to take on a story like this, and she did an incredible portrayal of Bree.
I am anxious to see what happens to Bree and how she evolves. I recommend giving this novella a try, as for me I will certainly be continuing on.
Undeserving by Gladys Quintal is a book that is powerfully gripping. Emotional and realistic. One part abuse and another part steamy romance.
This is an easy read to fall into and I was instantly glued to the pages of Bree's life.
Abuse and bullies is a subject dear to my heart and I believe the author dealt with it with great insight and grace. This is a moving story that was nicely told, I was intrigued all the way through. Unpredictable, Undeserving kept me guessing.
This is a Cinderella story with a handsome prince but things are not as perfect as they would appear. This Prince Charming would surely fall off his horse but who would be around to pick up the pieces?
Quote ~
"I longed to believe that this was how it would be former ever; I loving him and him loving me. Until death do us part. My dreams came true. But that's all they were. Dreams."
Real life masked as fiction. this book is about Bree, a woman who has been suffering abuse by men who started with her father, gone onto her mothers lovers and came to a point with her husband. Her perfect husband. Rich, educated, handsome and a wife beater.
As Bree come to know that woman can die from beatings her decision not to bring in children into this world is reinforced. The fact that her husbands family comes to realize that it is probably Bree's husband, their brother who left Bree for dead in an alley the story really comes to life. The choices made...the realizations, all of it adds to give this story a realistic spin not often found in fiction and hardly ever touched on in non fiction stories.
Bree is a very strong willed woman and is determined to break free from all of the pain and heartache in her life. I did not like Greg at all. I loved his brother Trey, the warmth and love he shows Bree is so refreshing. I love how this trilogy makes light of what some women go through in life with abuse. I found that I could relate with this story to an extent. Gladys Quintal shows that there is more to life than being abused, and living the life we want.
I received this book by the author for an honest review.
Bree grew up in an abusive household. It's the only thing she's ever known. She vowed that she would someday find someone the opposite of that.
Greg is sweet, charming, rich and handsome. I guess you can say looks can be very deceiving.
Bree quickly finds out that Greg isn't who she thought he was. She can't stand him but keeps up the facade so no one finds out... Except ppl close to her suspect it.
From the very first page, I was hooked! I wanted more and couldn't turn the pages fast enough! I really felt for Bree. I cannot believe it ended the way it did! U need the next book asap! I love finding books by authors whose work I haven't read before. I will definitely be reading all of this authors books!!
This book is far richer in back story regarding prophecies etc. i had trouble discouvering what Nanna can do and had to take a leap of faith regarding this twist. Once I did the story flow took me on a wild ride where even previously evil incarnate characters (well one of them) came to his senses. The prophecy etc is fun and adds so much to the love story that I simply could not put the book down.
The author's style and characterization made this part of the trilogy an interesting and fast read. I found my heart breaking, though, because of the tender way physical and sexual abuse are introduced into the plot. I am anxious to begin the second part.
I enjoyed this quick read. It definitely kept me hooked and not wanting to stop reading. It had some steamy moments which are a plus. Can't wait to read the next one. I would definitely recommend this read.
