Fate on Fire

The Spark of a Feudling

Rate this book
Hate can start a war, but a shattered heart can fuel it for centuries.
Everything Ada does is wrong. She’s the daughter of a Duke but she isn’t proper or formal. She prefers the company of her servants—particularly Christian, the boy she’s loved since she was six years old, and his sister, Charity, Ada’s very best friend in the entire world.

Ada isn’t just the daughter of a Duke. No, she’s the daughter of one of the most powerful Edren sorcerers alive, and no matter how strong she is, it isn’t strong enough. Ada will give up almost everything to earn her father’s pride.

Christian has loved Ada since the day his mother became her governess. But two societies are determined to keep them apart—the aristocracy who say a groom will never be good enough for a Duke’s beautiful daughter, and the sorcerers who say a Carules and an Edren can never be together. Christian will do anything to make Ada his—even drive himself to madness.

When Ada suspects her father of hurting Charity and Christian in his quest for knowledge, she is torn between loyalty to him, and a fierce determination to protect them. The division tears her soul and breaks her heart.
The pieces of her broken heart will start a war that can only be stopped by the death of the most powerful warrior alive by the hand of the boy who loves her.

**Bonus Story –Feudlings in Peace**Join Ari, Shane, Ada, Christian and everyone they love as they chase their happily ever after.

It was nice to see how everything got started. It just sucked that two people who once loved each other had become enemies because of everything that was going on. I can honestly say if I hadn't read the bonus story at the end and saw how things turned out I probably wouldn't have liked this book as much.

I was so glad to finally read how the war actually began. The prequel, Ada, Christian and Charity's story, has adventure, humor, tragedy, sadness and finally triumph. I did not foresee the twist in the ending, and I really loved that twist. After the prequel is a sweet Feudlings short story that takes place 2 years after Feudlings in Flames. It is bittersweet that this is the end, but if you go on Facebook you can become friends with Ari, Shane and Hunter and see what they are up to, because Wendy Knight is cool like that ;-)

Wendy Knight does not disappoint. This little prequel to the Fate on Fire series is full of fighting, heartbreak, and DRAAAMAAA! Oh the drama...Like a finely-tuned soap opera set to painful. My heart bleeds at it all.

Ada is an Edran, a sorcerer with an affinity for battle magic. Though in her days as a fighter, she also learns to heal so that she may protect the ones she loves most. She is a very intricate character, possessing many wide-ranging capabilities and personalities, which she wields to their most suitable audience. But underneath all the masks and brace face, she longs so strongly for what she cannot have, and she will do everything in her power to save her two best friends from a fate possibly worse than death...at the hands of her own father.

Christian is a Carules, a sorcerer with an affinity for healing magic. Though just as Ada has, he's learned to harness aggressive and offensive magic, beyond his own soothing powers...and it just might send him into madness. Christian knows few things for certain, but one of those things is that he belongs with Ada, and he is willing to risk his own life to keep her. But will it be enough?

Charity is the youngest of our darling trio and a Carules seer. She can see pieces of the future, sometimes at will. But she is so frail and grows weaker as the years pass her by. She has an inner strength that allows her to endure much, but is it enough to keep her alive?

This darling trio faces much in their harrowing lives. I felt that much of this story seemed to drag on endlessly, while other parts passed in a blur of motion and heart wrenching events that left me on the edge of my chair. For some reason, parts of this reminded me of Cassandra Clare's own shadowhunters, maybe because of how the relations between Ada, Christian, and William turned out (those who read this and that already can probably guess what I'm getting at). Overall, I was impressed with this prequel book and hope to see more of these interesting characters in the main series.

Sometimes characters need to tell their own story. That is the case for Vivian/Ada, Tristan/Christian and the original Charity. They needed their story to be told. We've met Vivian and Tristan but we didn't really know a whole lot about her and we didn't really trust him. Ada was wealthy and Christian was her servant best friend that she could never have. They grew up together and fell in love and when they were older, let's just say that things got a little complicated.

Wendy told their story so well and it flows completely with the rest of the series, even if it was 300 years ago. I ended up liking Ada, Christian, Charity and even William a lot more than I thought I would. I'm a big Team Ari/Shane fan and I didn't know if they would be able to compare. Even though the Sparks characters didn't replace my Team Ari/Shane, they are definitely up there with the rest of them. This was a wonderful and enjoyable book!

If you thought Richard was evil before, watch out! He is one bad dude!

Oh, and the bonus story at the end.....my heart melted. It was beautiful!

Love Wendy Knight's writing and love Feudlings! I really enjoyed this prequel to the Feudlings series! I loved reading about Ada and Christian's relationship, and was so sad when things took a turn for the worse! Ada and Christian grew up together, but Ada is from a wealthy and magically powerful family, and Christian's family works for Ada's family, Christian's family also has magic, but it's a different form of magic, so Christian isn't an acceptable choice for Ada as a husband. Ada and Christian love each of deeply, but they have many obstacles in their way. Evil forces cause lots of strife for this pair, and Ada and Christian also make decisions that have negative consequences for them. I love all the magic usage, and the spells are interesting, and Knight has created a really interesting world! I also loved the extra story at the end of the book! It was super sweet and I loved seeing more of the Feudling characters! Definitely excited to read more from Wendy Knight!!

This truly epitomizes an epic tale of doomed love. The love between the two main characters seem fated to never reach a happily ever after. I was definitely glued to each page feeing every bit of heartbreak and remorse. A prequel to the series, it totally served its purpose in hooking a readers interest and making the reader want to learn more. I cannot imagine this tale being told any better than what this author created! Perfect! This voluntary review is based against an advance copy.

*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*

I read Feudling first so it was interesting to take a step back and read this book. It is kind of a star-crossed lover's tale. Throw in some magic and a lot of people not talking out their issues and you have chaos, or all out war in this case. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of this series.

This is my first book from the series (as well as the beginning of the whole story).
I really enjoyed it as I found here romance, love, jealousy, fight, magic.
Ada is a Duke's daughter that can't perform magic very well - what will happen when she manage to use magic thanks to her governess and fell in love with her son (stable boy)?
Nothing is easy there but be prepared for an exciting read!

This is an amazing start to the Feudlings series. I cannot get over how much has been packed into this book; so much heartache, love, self-sacrifice, and determination, with a bit of madness thrown in! To feel the depth of love and pain, and to realise this is only the beginning... oh my goodness! I voluntarily reviewed an (A)RC of this book.

The truth is out and the story that tells how it started is out. It is a great story filled with heartbreak, love, betrayal and chaos. Ada has no idea who to trust and how her father has betrayed and used her over and over. Christian led by grief, Ada led by the flames. So much happens in this book, so many questions answered. Awesome read.

*This ARC was received in exchange for an honest review*
I love Wendy Knights books and this one didn’t disappoint, we get to find out how it all began for Ari, Shane and Hunter with the prequel of Ada, Christian and Charity, we see how two different people fall in love with each other only for it to turn into a war between the Edren and Carules. This was a kind of Romeo and Juliet type story too, but Ada ‘s father the Edren Duke experiments on Charity and Christian and turns Christian in to a monster of sorts and his madness starts this war between them two and they can never get their love back.

An electrifying read!

I feel so sorry for Ada... I would say more but spoilers. Also, her own mother (I'm talking about in Chapter 3)... won't say more because of spoilers. Whoa! Can't wait for more!

Oh, my heart! Christian and Ada!! My heart was pounding! This was before... and now, lovers torn apart, you have to read it to find out how and why! A truly fascinating read!

Damn! This book! So full of pain, longing and heartbreak.

Full of magic, deceit, lies, betrayal, love, seers, battles and chaos.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romance/fantasy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This continuation of the Feudlings saga dives deep into themes of loyalty, love, and the heavy cost of war. Ada’s struggle between her powerful sorcerer heritage and her love for Christian, a commoner, creates a compelling tension that drives the story. The mix of political intrigue within aristocratic and magical circles alongside personal heartbreak gives the narrative emotional weight. The story balances epic fantasy stakes with intimate character moments, and the bonus novella Feudlings in Peace offers a satisfying glimpse of hope and happily-ever-afters for beloved characters.

This was an awesome read. I read this first but I might read it again. It was cool to see how the war between the Carules and The Edren. It was nice to see how the story starts before starting the actual series. It shows how the books might turn out.

I loved this book. There was a perfect blend of romance and suspense. I was not expecting that plot twist in the end. The characters were great, well-written and well-developed. Can't wait to read the first book. Overall, a must read.

The start of a great war

Wow another great read from Wendy Knight that I couldn't put down.
It tells the story of how the war started but also how true love never really dies.
I loved how it had an extra book with Happily Ever After for Shane and Ari but also their friends and family they loved and protected.

I really tried with this book. Everything is so contrived and poorly written. It was a pain to read and I gave up about 30 percent in.. waste of money, imo.

The Sparks of the Flames that started it all. This short story is a wonderful glimpse into the past and the relationships that started the centuries old war. Getting to know Ada, Christen and Charity as they grow up together as well as learning more about Richard (the crazy that started it all) was very entertaining. This story while short is very exciting, and a great addition to the series.
