Annie and Snowball and the Pretties House by Cynthia Rylant and illustrated by Sucie Stevenson is a good easy to read book. The language is simple and Rylant uses a lot of repetition with the words she uses. I also loved the use of animals in the stories. The story kind of bothered me because I thought it was almost too unrealistic. It could give children the wrong idea about getting whatever they want. Annie wanted her house to be "prettier" and her dad allowed this young girl to go into her ne ...more

I read this one because the author Cynthia Rylant is our 2nd grade adopted author and I wanted to try one of this series, which is just an expansion on the Henry and Mudge books (who are both in this one). Annie is their next door neighbor and Snowball is her bunny. It's a girl's version of Henry and Mudge.

We've enjoyed the stories in this series; it's heartwarming to read stories about close extended families. Henry and his folks help Annie make her dream of having a pretty house come true. It's a fun story to read aloud.

Annie is such a stereotype of childish femininity that she kind of makes me cringe. I prefer Mudge.

A Level 2 story for children of all ages, including adults, of course. The story is about the idea of finding treasures at home and making home special. Beauty can be found at home.

My 6 year old appreciated the concept of wanting to make your house pretty. This is a fun early reader.
