Choose Life: 365 readings for radical disciples

Rate this book
This unique set of daily readings from bestselling author Simon Guillebaud encourages the reader to live the Christian life without compromise and without restraint; to live on full throttle and with utter abandonment to Christ.

Simon Guillebaud has lived in Burundi since his early twenties. He takes unimaginable risks so much so that he didn't expect to live to the age of 30. He sees miraculous results time and again as he works tirelessly for the salvation, peace and prosperity of the country he loves and daily gives his life for. Burundi is a place where choices are vivid, stark and sometimes deadly. It is a front line state in a fragile democracy seeking to overcome a bloody past. The spiritual battle between the forces of light and the repressive power of the local witchdoctors is very real. It is in this context that Simon Guillebaud has learned the lessons he shares in this volume.

Succinct and engaging, these daily reading cover a separate topic every day. The range is striking and profound as Simon shares the things he has learned through the council of the Holy Spirit. Those who engage with this unique devotional will be challenged and ultimately changed.

I bought this devotional after listening to a series of talks Simon Guillebaud gave at New Wine in the summer of 2016. My husband and I were planning to go on a mission trip to Africa the following year and we were so encouraged and inspired by Simon's Bible teaching and his commitment to sharing the gospel.

Although I did start doing these devotionals individually I found myself wanting to discuss what they said with others. After coming back from Africa and starting a new job at a Christian charity where we meet to pray every day (what an amazing privilege), I suddenly thought of these devotionals again. For the last year and a half we've been using these during our prayer time. We've been challenged, encouraged and stirred to read the Bible and live out our faith. It's also sparked great group prayer times. Is there any higher praise you could give for a devotional?

I would recommend this for families with secondary school aged children, youth groups, life groups...basically any group meeting to pray and looking to be radical disciples of Jesus. It's great!

I used this book as part of my devotional daily reading over the past year. It's standard format with a verse, prayer and reflection on a single page. Where Simon hits the mark is the level of challenge in each reading - it's pretty high!

There are a few places where legends are passed off as true stories but the challenge factor remains the same. By the end of the year I really wanted something that hung together a bit more, with themes or sections but for a daily injection of faith, risk, call then this is just the thing you need.

Brilliant, challenging, inspiring devotional. Highly recommend to every Christian, to get away from merely existing in the world, and choose to LIVE.
