Short inoffensive teaser read. Writing consistent with her style so it is a quick easy and well-written story, not much as a romance but a cute vignette. And unlike many authors' short stories loads of folks got this one free. So that too was quite nice.

A very short tale, free (thanks Sherry). Read it, but I could skip it as well.
Molto corto, niente di che. Ma era gratuito.

This was disappointing. Sherry Thomas can do so much better.

La verdad que 20 páginas no dan para más. Teniendo en cuenta la longitud está muy bien, pero tan pocas páginas no dan para nada.

Demasiado corto, demasiado predecible y muy soso...
Sorry...

I love ST's writing, but this would have been such an awesome read, had it been longer. It was just too short for the set up IMO.

Sherry Thomas doesn't disappoint even if the story is extremely short.

A very brief story and surprisingly my first of anything by this author. Enjoyed the storytelling and will be checking out her other work.

Sweet, but very short. A nice example of short form romance.

Absolutely lovely! The letters were charming and a great way to deal with the limited page length. It definitely did its job since I'm off to read the rest of the series.

I had this on my “novella” list in GR---because I’m supposed to be reading/analyzing “novellas” this year as part of my professional development toward writing my own.

However, with everything that I know about what constitutes the difference between short stories (up to 10k words) and novellas (approx. 10k to 35k), I’d say this one is a short story, not a novella.

According to the technical information for the book, it’s 24 print (45 Kindle) pages long. If you take the age-old formula th

Lite mer om Clarissas make. Lite mer dialog mellan Clarissa och Mr. Kingston. Lite mer spänning innan twisten (som visserligen var uppenbar) avslöjades. Claiming the Duchess f ...more

Is it possible to fall in love with just one look?
[Oops. Now I’m singing the song…]
I find a new author and I usually rush off and grab their free stuff first. [I yam what I yam] and this was on Sherry Thomas’ ‘where to start’ list.
But… it’s kind of hard to pull this one off, I reckon.
The Duchess of Lexington is the younger second wife of the Duke. She’s not UN-happy but the Duke is clearly a boor and he’s mean and dismissive of his son, Christian. At a party she notices a man, James Kingston. An

This was a free short story I found on the author's site, and while it didn't seem particularly interesting, I downloaded it, as it was recommended for those looking for a taste into Thomas's writing. I mean, come on, that is bad marketing right there, as I'm obviously not the only one who disliked this. This was so dull and just... eh. Probably not going to check out anything else by the author, to tell you the truth.

Very predictable but still cute. I read this after finishing the Fitzhugh Trilogy and would not suggest reading this book before the third book of the series. I don't think I really would have cared for Clarissa has I not finished the whole trilogy first because I wouldn't have really known her. You get a better sense of who she in in book three and therefore are more invested in her as a person in this very, very short story.

I have to admit I've been on a Regency kick recently, 3 different series even in a very short span. So returning to this series was a bit of a mind jerk. It took me a little while to remember who the Duchess was.
I did enjoy this muchly. I liked the Duchess. I liked Kingston.

It was short, I would have liked more. But it was quite enjoyable. The cover should definitely have had hydrangeas instead of sunflowers, but that's me judging a books cover.

Thomas is a good writer, but this was too short for me, even as a novella. There was no real plot or story and the big secret revealed toward the end was barely a secret at all. I picked this up to try to determine whether I might like Sherry Thomas' historical romances, since I have enjoyed her Lady Sherlock series, but I'm not compelled to rush out and read any more after this.

Suuuuuuuper short, and therefore obvious - there wasn't near enough time to build up the romance in so few pages, though the characters had much more development than one might expect in a 24-page story. Still, it was cute and I liked it.

A perfect little gem of a story, featuring a lonely widow and a very shy suitor. I loved that most of the action of the story takes place in letters. I didn't realize until later that the main character's stepson is the hero of another full length novel by Sherry Thomas.

Just a short story to read before bed. A nice sweet glass of wine. The manischewitz of stories, if you will. I read the first of this trilogy years ago so I want to finish the last two - thus reading the 0.5 prequel. Onwards and upwards.

Really cute short story that did what it was meant to -- made me want to read the series! I would have loved to read an actual book about the protagonist, but it is what it is.

I did like this but it was very short even for a novella,I would of liked a lot more of the story.
I did like the characters though so I will definitely read the next one.

Because actual world domination is too much trouble, USA Today-bestselling author Sherry Thomas decided that her goal is life is to write every kind of book she enjoys reading. Thus far she has published romance, fantasy, mystery, and a wuxia-inspired duology.
