Steven Savile (born October 12, 1969, in Newcastle, England) is a British fantasy, horror and thriller writer, and editor living in Sala, Sweden.

Under the Ronan Frost penname (inspired by the hero of his bestselling novel, Silver) he has also written the action thriller White Peak, and as Matt Langley was a finalist for the People's Book Prize.

I picked this up because the author has written for Doctor Who and Torchwood and other shows I love. It has the same feel as the "Tales from the Archives" series of short stories about the Ministry of Peculiar Occurences. In this case the stories follow a group of gentlemen formed to protect the world from evil in all forms and especially the dark doings of Brethren. In the first story "The Hollow Earth", we meet several of the members as they fight to save London from evil creatures released from below the Earth. It took me a while to get all the members straight in my mind but, otherwise this story was very good.

I look forward to reading more stories about the Greyfriars Club. I really want to get to know these characters better. The writing is excellent, the stories for the most part move along quickly but, with enough detail given that you don't feel you are missing anything. I really hope there are more stories to come in this series.

A fool's quest releases hell on earth. And the Greyfriar Gentleman's Club come to the rescue.

The battle between good and evil takes place in Old London. It takes a tragic loss to once again banish evil and close the portal to our world. The story itself is very fast paced, before you know it you are done.

I was left wanting to read more about the Greyfriar Gentleman's Club. I will be on the hunt for more by Steven Savile.

Excellent story of the battle between good and evil pitting members of the Victorian Greyfriar's Club against the demons residing in another dimension in the bowels of the earth. Highly recommended.
