Do not fear the shadows, but what lives inside them.
A thousand years have passed since the last Blood Tide, when the goddess Narcissi Herself fought to defend humankind from certain extermination by an ancient enemy. But when She failed during the final battle, She was forced to retreat into the safety of Lostwood's shadows, never to appear again. Legend has it She planted Herself in the earth, allowing the forest to grow around Her. Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, the goddess is now defended by her army of Sightless, Guardians, and Protectors. Collectively, they call themselves the Forsworn.

David has delivered once again and his latest epic high fantasy book Stormsworn, the 3rd book in his Forsworn Saga, as usual, knocked my socks off.
This fantasy book has everything including dragons, magic, mages, lots of action, and even mermaids and seadragons. Put all of that together with his snappy hilarious banter, and this was the perfect book to start off my 2025!!
Ludo, Bryony, Tomas, and so many others are back in Stormsworn along with some brand new favorites: Moona, Chub, Vritra, Hemlock, Beatty! I could not get enough and would read late into the night flipping through pages as fast as I could. David has that mad talent of giving us characters we care deeply about. And these worlds he creates are so complex with so many different storylines, although they all seem to crash together at some point....
And let’s talk about the emotional rollercoaster of feels I got throughout. Up down high low cry laugh sob giggle gasp… throw kindle. (Yup!)
I am truly blown away at the depth of this remarkable epic fantasy. If you like fantasy, you will definitely love David’s newest saga!
Hopefully soon, Tim Gerard Reynolds will be voicing the audiobook of this series, and as he’s one of my all time favorite narrators, I. Can’t. Wait!!
Thanks so much to David for the early eARC of this book!
Another high fantasy winner from David Estes in this 3rd installment. A few new characters, one of which is Moona who while her intro is not so exciting, she grows into an incredibly strong character.
We get to meet a few of the other gods in this book, draw your own conclusions. Plenty of treachery, bravery, selfless and selfish acts abound.
When I first began reading this book, I wasn’t too thrilled about Moona. This isn’t the first time I’ve felt this way about a new character—only to have them completely win me over. The more I read about Moona, the more I wanted to keep going. By the end, I couldn’t get enough of her, and honestly, I found myself wanting fewer chapters from Soraya. (Sorry, Soraya.)
The dialogue and humor in this book are standout elements. Lines like “I tried to kill my own father,” she said. “Twice,” Ludo added helpfully had me laughing even in such a terribly sad moment. Thank you David, because the laughter kept me from crying. Ludo’s dynamic with Bryony was another highlight, especially their tavern scene. That tension? Perfectly executed. And the clever exchanges—“My Ability is a team of horses.” “Yours is more like a single, stubborn, scrawny mule…”—had me laughing out loud.
Hemlock was a bit of a rollercoaster for me. Initially, I wasn’t a fan. That said, Hemlock grew on me as the story progressed. Her wit (“Half the men I’ve been with swear I’m a goddess.”) and her unapologetic personality won me over.
The romantic tension and dramatic moments were also on point. Tomas, Ms. M., Moona — ugh. So gut wrenching. Tide… nothing I want to give away there but, ugh! What are you doing to me David?! No, no, no!
The book also delivered some beautifully profound lines. “You are misconstruing courage with arrogance…” and “A dangerous thing, promises…” are quotes that stayed with me long after I closed the book. They reflect the Este’s ability to weave deeper themes into a story full of humor and adventure.
Overall, this book was a great mix of humor, tension, and heart. While there were a few bumps along the way, the sharp dialogue, memorable characters, and emotional beats made for an engaging read. Moona, Hemlock, Ludo, and even Chub (squid/octopus confusion aside)—they’ve all left a lasting impression.
If you’re looking for a story that makes you laugh, cry, and question what’s next, this is one to pick up. Just be prepared to get a little emotionally wrecked along the way.
Tensions rise and the war for survival has made it to Finfalla. "Stormsworn" book 3 in David Estes "The Forsworn Oath" series delivers it all, everything from epic battles, magical beasts and backstabbing allies to growth, sacrifice and love.
Estes best of the series so far (imo) takes us across his ever sprawling landscape of Finfalla with vivid expansion on an already massive world, and sets us up for what looks to be an explosive final 2 books in this latest creation he has blessed us readers with. 🔥
Once again, a multitude of PoV's are unraveling across the regions of this world in pending turmoil and Estes is just masterful at making this absolutely seamless and engaging as ever! Not only has he stepped up this remarkable collection of characters, but he manages to introduce a few more (yes...I said more, he's unbelievable with this skill) and by the gods are they amazing!! 👀 Moona is the first to immediately make a appearance and I was astounded at how much this character grew and became one of my most engaging chapters and story arc to read...a close second to our returning characters Bryony and Ludo of course. 😏 They are just an amazing read. A bevy of others make their own stories known including our introductions to the very God's littered in the histories of this Epic.
As always, we don't need much of a nudge to creativity to bring these scenes to life, David pens the details so well the story jumps off the pages and thrusts us directly into the story and emotions. Heroic highs and soul scaring lows await you in this Saga and there is no lack of either...at just over 1200 pages, you are in for a wild journey. 📚
Can alliances be mended and made to stand against the storm that will rage across the land?...My oh my are we about to find out. The Godsblood flows and the tide is rising...will blood find the shores of Finfalla, or will our Forsworn rise to the very challenge they were breed for?!🔥
5⭐ for this chonker and the bar is now set high! David my good man, we are ready for the next entry in this beautiful chaos! Let the tide come sir! 😈📚🍻
solid. the banter between Ludo and Bryony is tiring. The ridiculous mooning between Tomas and Moona is embarrassing. otherwise, the author weaves a complex plot with terrific world building.
Ok, this is the one where the Hulk marries the Little Mermaid. Seriously, it happens. Also, it's the second book with the they/them character that no one questions and everyone automatically uses non-binary pronouns. There's no backstory (yet), but it's obviously a little dude.
Still digging the story, but it could use some copy edit help. Too much modern dialog mixed with "and on this day" type awkward speech.
The series is very juvenile with words like BAM SPLAT, KAPOW. It’s like watching Batman from the 60s. Good storyline, though unfortunately the last book in the series is not available on Kindle apparently.
I like everything about your books. they are all great fantasy reads. You have a great way with words. They are not just for teens. But for everyone to enjoy. Thank you very much from a.80+.
I like the different characters in the story and how they interact. I also like how the story flows even though it switches to another character or story line when I'm deep into the current one. Great read and I can't wait for the next book. L
Once again it was great! Love the characters, magic, and locations. Love the comradery. Hope there's more. I wonder why the Fire eater told Ludo him and Bryony could never be together?
