I love it when the action in a suspense novel starts on the first page. This book begins that way and never seems to let up!

A freebie. Got it almost 3 years ago. Not bad, not bad at all. Liked both characters although the heroine did have a stupid moment towards the end.

“Part of her wanted to hang on tight and see where it led. The other part wanted time and space to try and figure out exactly what was happening. But if she’d learned anything over the years it was time and space didn’t always provide answers.”

A Cold Dark Place by Toni Anderson is the first in the Cold Justice series,it's the first I've read from this author but I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next in this series.
It's fast, thrilling and fun,it's also a typical romantic suspense thriller with the FBI , an Assassin, a cat and mouse chase with a murderer oh and a steamy love affair with the assassin and the FBI agent (did I mention a HEA too 😉)
But also the story line is very pacy and keeps you flipping pages it's a quick r

*June, 2018 - Rereading for group buddy read. - Happy to say this story is just as good the 2nd time around! Suspense, flawed characters, a few shockers, and sizzling chemistry = A Must Read!

I really enjoyed this story. I liked how the author described certain scenes and events, making me feel like I was watching an episode of Criminal Minds. It was creepy and a bit scary and the murderer's perspective only made it more of a thriller.

It was exciting to know (or at least feel) like no one was safe. Mallory was a rookie agent who had a bit of arrogance that made her feel that she was untouchable. She was a smart and tough cookie, who was no stranger to tragedy ever since her identical

Mallory Rooney has worked her whole life to become an FBI agent and solve the case of the abduction of her identical twin from their bedroom when they were 9 years old. With the execution style death of a serial killer, Mallory begins to suspect a vigilante is working with information from inside the Bureau. She has worked for years to bring her sister's abductor and killer to justice and believes in the justice system, so she wants this vigilante stopped and jailed, also.

Got my attention and held it throughout the book.
Well written.
The characters are well developed and interesting.

More of a crime suspense novel than a romance. A lot of action and keeps you guessing to the end who the serial killer is, but gives you clues as the story unfolds.

A satisfying and all around good read. The suspense was spot on. The romance was well done, but the act

She was a federal agent who lived to uphold the law. He was a killer who’d die to keep her safe.

* Could be read as standalone.

This book is everything that suspense romance should be;

* great flow of the writing
* perfectly paired main couple who are so unperfect which makes them so much more real
* gripping plot which just at the moments you think you figure it out, surprises you with an unexpected twist

If you love political drama and criminal mystery with steamy parts left in it- this is a

A really good and interesting book.

I liked very much both the hero and the heroine, even if she did have a TSTL moment towards the end! ;)

Still the story was intriguing and the villain creepy enough to make things interesting.

A nice pace and good writing made it even better!
A Cold Dark Place is quite the fitting title to this novel. Alex Parker is a man who prefers the darkness to do what he is entrusted to do. Employed by an organization known as “The Gateway Project” that is so deeply hidden in the layered complexities of the US government, Alex is an assassin who enacts justice by killing the worst sort of scum. Counting down the days until he would be free of his promise that binds him to his employers, his job becomes doubly dangerous when he realizes that som ...more

I tried my best to like this book. I really did. But for some strange reason I just couldn't get into it and I found it a struggle in the end.

I admit what drew me in was the blurb as it sounded interesting and when I got around to finally reading it I was slightly disappointed. There was nothing wrong with the narrative style or the characters. From what I read the premises seemed well written; there was plenty of mystery and action and Alex and Mallory were believable (I liked Alex a bit
I found this book completely by accident one night while searching for an audiobook, and this author came up. I'm so happy that I took a chance on this author! I really loved the story, loved both main characters, love the mystery/thriller, and the relationship was perfect. It's often hard to find that balance between an alpha male who is also a sensitive man. And an h who is strong and competent but also has a softer side. These two were so lovely together ♥️ ...more

A Cold Dark Place is book 1 in the Cold Justice series by Toni Anderson. I have read books that occur later in the series and enjoyed the blend of Criminal Minds and Scandal (with less wine). In book 1, Mallory is an FBI agent transferred to the BAU after she discovers a vigilante and a mole in the FBI. She is also hunting the man who kidnapped and killed her sister when they were still children. Alex is a 'security expert' who moonlights as an assassin for The Gateway Project which is a b

Toni Anderson’s new series is a dark exploration of into the right and wrong of justice. Should the punishment fit the crimes against serial killers and pedophiles? An unsanctioned group within the US government thinks so and uses their assassins to take them out bypassing the judicial system.

Alex Parker was an assassin that still had a conscience. He was once a soldier that proudly served his country but when most of his team was killed due to a traitor he then agreed to work for the CIA. When

The narrator was a tad weird when doing the female parts. I kept hearing Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie lol.
After getting past that, I quickly fell into the mystery and loved Alex. Mallory was a tough chic but I really like how she lowered her shield for Alex
While the romance isn't front and center it was still a good love story. I really thought being in the mind of the killer was portrayed almost scarily realistic. Great lead up to climax and sweet ending. I only wish there was an epil

A bit hotter or steamier than I like in a book, but the storyline was good. Hunting down a serial killer is always my favourite type of book. Lots of characters to sort out at the beginning, and a few twists and turns and even a red herring just to mix things up, plus a couple of TSTL scenarios. Overall the book was a decent read and likeable main characters regardless of their shady pasts!

2 thumbs up and 4 stars

This started out with an interesting premise, and that’s about it. The romance consisted of the h/H boning and deciding it was special. The serial killer ended up being some rando, instead of someone in the h’s midst. So disappointing.

We only get to see the vigilante assassin kill ONE bad guy! Then he’s all Mr Nice Guy. The conclusion and cover up were so far fetched, my eyeballs almost rolled right out of my head!

How does this have high ratings? 1.5 stars rounded up to 2 stars.
