Advertising executive Peter Brantley is carjacked at gunpoint when a drug bust goes bad at a bus station near where he is stopped at a traffic light. After the carjacker instructs Peter to drive to a deserted, rural area, Peter knows he will be murdered as a witness, so he intentionally crashes his car and leaves the unconscious criminal at the scene. But Peter keeps the gym bag of cocaine left in his car. With a marriage on the rocks and depressed over his brother's death from a drug overdose, Peter back home comes up with a wild scheme to get even with the drug dealers by ransoming back the drug-with no intention to deliver. He enlists his skeptical but capable wife, Mary Beth, to help him go against the odds to face a ruthless drug kingpin and a drug task force leader who are both closing in.
THE GRACELAND CONSPIRACY. UPDATE: Mindbridge Press released this book April 1, 2019.
My last thriller THE WHITE LIE was released in2014 by Mindbridge Press. See book trailer video in my vid's. Born and educated in Alabama, but live in Mississippi. The novel is crime fiction meant to be a fast-paced read, something you will enjoy in five hours on a beach, but with a story and characters that you will remember. Many have called it a good read.
Have begun work on the next book in THE WHITE LIE series titled THE BLACK TRUTH.
I loved reading this book in advance copy format. The scenes were described in brilliant detail and the characters were so believable. My favorite turned out to be Mary Beth! It is so refreshing to read a book set in the South that is not filled with gothic misfits. Can't wait for the movie. Now that will be a whole lot of fun!
Really, really good read. Easy to connect with the characters. Held my attention from page one not wanting to put it down. Move over John Grisholm because there is a new Sheriff in town! Looking forward to another thriller from Phillip Shirley.
The White Lie is a very unique story that I think would make a great movie. I felt like I was with Peter and Mary-Beth throughout the whole book and found myself rooting for them a lot. I really enjoyed this book and I would love to see it made into a movie-that's how good it is.
Fantastic story, could barely put The White Lie down.
Peter accidentally ends up with a bag full of cocaine in his car and since his brother died a drug addict, he wants to get even with drug dealers. Peter decides the best way to do this is to try to sell the cocaine back to whoever it belonged to, but hit the dealers where it hurts their wallets.
There are a few convoluted plans, but all well written and interesting to read. We also got to see chapters based around the head guys of the drug ring and also of the police force.
