”I”d lost myself in the show, in Jared, in the impossible dream and the beautiful lie.”

description

This story was well written and centers around a band being contestants on The Voice The Sound television show. The Sound is completely identical to The Voice with one exception, there are bands competing under the guidance of a washed out or popular celebrity.

Maddie is a piano student in college who finds herself in a position to follow her secret dream of being a rock and roll guitarist. Kyle is

More Than Music is a stand-alone New Adult contemporary romance, suitable for readers 17+ due to mature content. It features rock music, lots of geeky references, and a TV show loosely based on The Voice. There is no cliffhanger ending - the next books are about Maddie's friends finding love. I hope you enjoy it!

If you are in the mood for sweet rock star story that's low in angst and drama, this one is a great choice. It was easy and quick read, which I enjoyed.

Anyone that knows me knows that I love rock star romances. So when I found myself with no ARCs to read and some unexpected free reading time, I couldn't resist the draw of this.

Maddie was my type of girl. She was shy and loved music. And she was so real. She wasn't a complete klutz (which is often popular) and she wasn't model perfection personified either. She was real. She was awkward with Jared (who was beyond hot) and a good friend and yes, a little klutzy at times (we all are) but there wa

OH. MY. GOD. This is such a good book! I can't even describe my feels. Lol. I love every single page of it. I need the paperback. I need to inhale the scent of the book. Eeek. Jared is soooo hot! Hahaha! Yes, I'm fangirling over the guy again. :p

I love everything about Maddie. She has some faults but hey, no one is perfect. I love she plays guitar, piano, violin, and clarinet. It was one of my dream to know how to play guitar. So, a heroine that could play guitar, a Strat for that matter, OMG. M

Review of: “More than Music” by Elizabeth Briggs
4 1/2 Stars

I enjoyed “More than Music” by Elizabeth Briggs a lot. I thought it was well written. I liked the author’s writing style and voice, and the story line was a nice change of pace from the typical new adult books where the female main character is running from a secret, or the male character has a secret, or both.

I really liked the game show idea. It made the story very relatable since most people have heard of the various singing reality

Sexy, fun, and heartfelt, More Than Music will bring out the rockstar in anyone. A truly passionate love story--both in music and romance. Jared and Maddie's story is a great example of how important it is to be true to yourself and step out onto your own stage.

I am not a writer; I have no idea how does that feel like or how hard it might be.
But I am a reader and as a reader I do have expectations.

When I read a book I want to ‘live’ in it for a while, I want to ‘be’ the main character through it all, to ‘have’ that life and make the best out of it. And every now and then I read a book with so, but sooo much potential that I wish (from the bottom of my heart) I had enjoyed it a lot more, because I know that it would have been possible.

This being said,

I think this is my first ARC ever and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read because it was AMAZING! I LOVED IT! The first thing that happened in the book that made me think *OMG I LOVE YOU ALREADY* was that one of the characters was half Portuguese I was so happy because usually Portuguese people or the country aren't mentioned in books so when a book mentions my country I start jumping around and screaming OMG THERE'S PORTUGUESE WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK *faints* Well I think this was a

“I didn't know what would happen with the band, but I knew we'd get through it. Because what we had together was more than music. It was love.”

Like some of the books I read, I have no idea what to expect in More Than Music. I am quite picky when it comes to books about music because I don’t want it to be used as something that will make the character cooler. Good thing, Dianne (once again) spazzed about this.

What I love most about this is the characters because they’re easy to read and quit

This was just okay for me. The premise of the book reminded me of the tv show The Voice. The ending felt really rushed. You're given Jared and Maddie's story and their sexual attraction for one another and you know it's working up to something and then THE END

Oh my. Oh my my my. I've had mixed feelings about New Adult as a genre for quite awhile, simply because it seemed as though most stories were so dark, twisty, and filled with overly dramatic turmoil. More Than Music is such a breath of fresh air! An NA book that's fun and romantic that I ended up reading in one sitting because I just had to know what happened with Jared and Maddie. Oh and speaking of Jared...anyone with a rocker fantasy needs to read this book asap, because Jared's hotness can o ...more

This has got to be the best rocker romance I have read this year, maybe ever.

More Than Music is told about a geeky, secretly guitar loving girl, and her journey entering the music world as the newbie in a band. Villain Complex, the band, is made up of Maddie's friend Kyle, Hector, and Kyle's older brother Jared. Jared has a tendency of sleeping around, and once he hooked up with the bassist of the band had things went downhill. Now, two days before Villain Complex is to audition on the reality T

Fun and interesting, but not the best read ever.

The Good

I have to be honest, I might have liked this book more than most because A) my obsession with rock star romances and B) I loved seeing a possible version of what it’s like behind the scenes of shows like The Voice or X Factor. It was crazy!!! I would hate dealing with all that drama and cattiness, so I am happy I got to experience it through Maddie’s eyes.

Maddie is a music and comic book geek who gets pulled into a band

I must admit I was apprehensive at first, after I heard this was a sweet rockstar romance. Um, sweet? Angst and rock stars go together like, like... I can't come up with a clever comparison so never mind.

But then I dived into this book, finished it in a day, and...
Well, I'm a convert.

First, there was a fair amount of angst after all. What there wasn't is cheap melodrama of the kind that pervades the New Adult genre these days. The characters--Maddie, Jared, and the supporting cast--were real a

1 "barely there" star and I am PISSED
I cannot believe I wasted 3 whole hours to conclude that this is one of the worst books I've read.

First 60% - Jared, you're so sexy, please notice me; Jared, you're so different than anybody else (but we've barely talked at all) ... At this point I wanted to send the main character in the pits of hell. This continued so long and the whole "show" they were starring in came and went so quickly (just like the story), that I couldn't wrap my head around it

I'll be honest, when I first saw this book on NetGalley I skipped over it. I read the blurb and thought "nope, not for me." However, yesterday I was bored and had couldn't find a book on my shelf I wanted to read so decided to give this a try and now that I have, I'm glad I did. I didn't expect to be as engaged and hooked on the book as I was and I definitely didn't think I'd be up until 2am telling myself I'd only read one more chapter until I fi

Not okay?
This was my first Elizabeth Briggs read, but it won't be my last. I'll definitely be looking for the next installment in the Chasing The Dream Series. If you are a music lover like I am, then this book will be right up your alley. It gives you a very interesting backstage look at a music competition (The Sound - like The Voice but with bands). The story is written so well that the emotions, the witty banter, and the chemistry between the characters is felt by the reader. I laughed out l

I absolutely loved this book. It contains so much fun, so much swoon, and so much character development. Our main character Maddie is a classically trained pianist. She’s a self-proclaimed nerd who doesn’t see herself as anything special, except that she has a secret talent for playing guitar. Maddie’s love interest is Jared, a tattooed “bad boy” and the lead singer of a band. You might think based on these characters that you’ve read this story before, but you definitely haven’t. So this book was pretty stinking cute. A regular girl joins a band and they get picked for a reality show that was The Voice for bands. She's in love with the lead singer, but complications arise and stuff gets out of hand.

Seriously the CUTEST frigging book! I loved the characters, the storyline, the nerdiness, the music, absolutely everything. I also just learned that it's part of a series which I am BEYOND excited for. Seriously SO good. Check

This was a refreshing take on New Adult. Gone is the angst and it is replaced with a fun story that played out like a movie in my head. The characters were exciting and had just enough backstory that didn't focus on traumatic childhoods. The integration of a Voice-like game show and popular songs added to the ease of this read.

New adult authors, take note! This is what I want more of!

A copy was provided by Netgalley for an honest review.

Maddie Taylor has just finished her junior year of college. She is a music major and enjoys playing the piano but playing the guitar is where her heart really lies. No one except for her 2 best friends knows about her love for guitar because her mom wouldn't approve. One night at a party with Kyle, a classmate/member of a local band, Villain Complex, Maddie finds herself alone in the band's "sound room" and picks up a guitar and starts playin

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I've been really into the New Adult genre, recently. The books are just so easy to read, so engaging, and so fluffy. They're a much needed escape from the world, and that's what this book was for me.

I liked the characters in the novel. Maddie was shy and geeky and talented and lacked confidence, but we see her grow and evolve in the novel. She becomes more sure of herself, more okay with her geekiness, more confiden

More Than Music, that's what this story was about...more than just the music and Chasing the Dream.

Maddie is a self-proclaimed geeky piano playing girl who also knows her way around a violin and a clarinet. But there's a part of her heart that knows she wants more than just a classical piano playing lifestyle.

Enter her friend Kyle who plays in a band. A band that just so happens will need some musical assistance for their audition on "The Sound" (read The Voice).

The downfall is the ridiculous

Genre: Romance, New Adult

This book is a perfect example of what I love about the New Adult Genre, a fun, easy to read story, characters the reader can love ( and hate) and some solid drama.
Maddie, oh Maddie, has has the hots for her good friend Kyle’s big brother Jared for ages. Maddie’s the good girl, works hard, and has a steady music career lined up. Secretly though she loves her guitar, and has dreams of a rock star life.

I really enjoyed this book and I wasn’t completely sure that I would when I got it. I don’t normally enjoy the NA genre because it’s full of whiny girls and stupid boys who think that every little bump in the road is the end of the world. But that’s not the case in this book! What really makes this book great is the intelligent and well crafted main characters. Jared is exactly like some of the indie band front men that I’ve met. He’s arrogant, uber charismatic, and a walking menace to women! He ...more
