Josh’s Wild Imagination by Pam Funke immediately grabs the attention with the catchy title. I wondered from the start what Josh was going to get up to and it was amusing as his tummy began to grumble and he looked everywhere for a monster, not realising what was making the noise. When he finally realises it’s his tummy making the noises, he goes to the refrigerator to find something to eat. That’s when the adventure begins and his wild imagination takes over. A magic cookie takes Josh on a mystical journey to a another world with his new friends, The Fruggies.
The author, Pam Funke, delves into every young child’s imagination in this story. Why can’t bananas have names or a potato talk? The writing style is ideal for the target age, perfect for a parent to read to a young child, and the simple drawings help to bring the story to life. As Josh journeys through the new world he has discovered, the author introduces characters and stories from the Bible, which was a bit of a surprise. Josh has heard his mother talk of Jesus and so the names and stories are not new to him, although the introduction is rather unexpected. But the end result is that the story of Josh’s wild imagination blends with a Christian viewpoint and, for children from a Christian family, this would not seem out of place. The writing flows nicely and the characters are well developed; this would certainly be the type of book a parent could read to a child with perhaps explanations along the way.
I am no longer an author. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Since I've been old enough to read, I've been devouring books. Besides writing, I also enjoy drawing, painting, scrap-booking, photography and cooking. I am a very creative person.
I was given this title in exchange for an honest review, which in no way guarantees a positive review.
Josh's Wild Imagination follows Josh through the fridge to the land of Midian where he meets the Fruggies. The Fruggies are little apostles who evangelize children to help their parents come back to Jesus.
This is a cute story geared toward the younger set, the hand-drawn artwork is cute and the story flows well. Great opportunity to encourage younger kids to ask questions. I would recommend this is read via computer or tablet, the pictures don't come through as well in black and white.
Josh's Wild Imagination is a funny story with talking fruit and vegetables. I liked that he saw Jesus. And I enjoyed the ending.
Review by my 8 year old daughter who read the book to me.
My daughter enjoyed reading this quirky story that dove into the imagination of a 4 year old boy and Bible stories. At times she was left giggling at the antics in the story and others she was trying to figure out what the dog-thing really was.
An unintentional purchase (when one-click was new) that I finally decided to read. The formatting wasn't great for kindle, and the pictures looked like they'd been drawn by the author's children (which is still better than I could draw). The story was simple, if a bit heavy handed, but was definitely filled with imagination.
