Not very strong 4 stars but still 4. I liked it more than the previous Jim & Dali novella. Short review to come tomorrow.

This anthology was a worthwhile read. Two of the stories were quite good, one was like nothing else you will ever read, and the flop of the collection was a fairly standard PNR. Here is my thoughts on the individual novellas:

Secrets at Midnight by Nalini Singh

I had been looking forward to trying one of Nalini Singh's books for a while and figured this novella was the perfect place to sample a story from her Psy-Changeling series. Unfortunately I was not impressed. This was a standard PNR story o

Oh, my god, this book was one giant, crazy whac-a-mole!

Magic Steals(Kate Daniels #6.5) by Ilona Andrews

White tiger Dali and jaguar Jim

The book deals with three topics:

1. How Dali perceives herself. Dali has a low self-esteem. She thinks she is not pretty enough, not woman enough, not strong enough. Just not enough for someone like Jim. Jim will help her understand what a unique, beautiful shifter woman she is.

2. How the relationship between Dali and Jim proceeds. Until now they still have not made love, they have not talked about commitment and mat

Night Shift is one of the best anthologies I've read in a while with contributions from three powerhouse writers in their respective genres.

It says something when the "worst" story in a collection is from Nalini Singh. Secrets at Midnight is her contribution and it's pretty boring. Leopard shifter, Bastien Smith, has scented his mate but quickly finds out that not all is well with her. Singh can write some compelling short stories, so I was surprised at how she seemed to have sleepwalked throug

Usually, any given anthology I come across will have just one or two stories I am interested in. But with this one, I hit the motherload, with stories from three of my very favorite authors: Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews, and Meljean Brook (writing as Milla Vane). I didn’t love every story equally, but overall, I think UF/ PNR readers will get enough bang for their buck.

Secrets at Midnight: I am such a fan of Nalini Singh and her Psy-Changeling world, but this novella was not a hit for me

Dali and Jim look into the disappearance of a friend's grandmother.

I love Dali and Jim and I love when we get novellas about the two of them. Jim is the scary badass head of security for the Atlanta pack and takes his job very seriously. I like seeing another side of him when he's with Dali. He lets his guard down and is even playful. Who knew Jim could smile without the threat of imminent de

Didn't enjoy this it was super predictable, the romance was based on nothing but insta-lust/love, and the hero and heroine were generic and cliched, there was nothing endearing about them whatsoever.

Bastien was the typical cocky-slutty-hero and Kirby was a Mary Sue with no personality, their romance was so trite. It felt like I'd already read their story before because the characters/relationship dy

My mission right now is to read from my own book shelves and to hopefully get to those books that have been lingering there, unread. But yesterday I felt the pull of this collection of romantic short stories and I didn't even try to resist. In these days of physical distancing, I felt the need to at least read about physical closeness.

My previous review pretty much says it all. If anything changed, it may have been that I appreciated Lisa Shearin's Lucky Charms even more. It can st

Great little set of anthologies, 4 good complete feeling quick reads.A fan of short anthologies, Yoda is not.
I finished Secrets at Midnight, 3.0 stars - it was the typical short rushed feeling PNR. I liked the characters and would have loved to meet them in a full length read.he sex was so short I blinked and I they were done. WTH ? I wanted the good stuff. It did peek my interest in the series, I might squeeze it in this year or the next or at least the year after that

3.5* for Andrews's Jim & Dali story. Love Dali and I like seeing the softer side of Jim the uber badass.

Tried to read the Nalini Singh story but just the first 5 pages bored me silly. Bastien and Kirby are mates but she seems to have a Big Secret that means he'll never ever love or accept her. Or something like that, I was skimming. Anyway...blah blah blah.

I'll admit that the main reason I wanted to read this anthology was for the stories by Nalini Singh and Ilona Andrews, I'm a huge fan of both the Psy-Changeling and Kate Daniels series so of course I was eager to be able to dive back into both of those worlds. It was a great opportunity to try a couple of new series though and I have to say that I definitely want to read more from Lisa Shearin and Milla Vane in the future. I'm going to t

MAGIC STEALS is Jim and Dali's story and is told through Dali's POV.

Imagine a 100 lbs tigershifter that gets sick at the smell of blood and is a veteran. That would be Dali, the blind tigershifter that loves racing her cars no matter how many she wrecks.

Jim is a werejaguar and acts as the Pack’s Chief of Security. As Dali puts it, Jim is a badass who wrote a book for badasses on how to

If you've read any Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling story, you know what you can expect. I'm pretty easy when it comes to this series even when I see the flaws. The men here seem pushy sometimes, but they never cross the line.

Jim and Dali are two of my favorite characters. Who am I kidding?! Most of the characters in the Kate Daniels series are my favorites. Anywho, we saw Dali a couple of times, but I feel like it's been a while since she graced us with her presence. I love Jim, and always have. So this was a fun glimpse with the two of them taking center stage.

As I said 1000 times before, Nalini can never disappoint me. Never! That being said, I loved Bastien’s story. He’s such a protective and cute dude, I can really see he’s Mercy’s brother. He’s a very sensual guy and Kirby is a very lucky girl *sigh*[I want one of Nalini’s heroes btw].

Why you should read it: I have always loved anthologies because you get little tastes from your favorite authors, and some you haven't read before. This one was a winner because Ilona Andrews and Nalini Singh and Meljean Brook/Milla Vane. I hadn't read Lisa Shearin, but I enjoyed all of the leprechaun shenanigans. I am normally one who doesn't shy away from anthologies even though the stories are often in the 75-100 page range. I was definitely curious to read Night Shift knowing that 3 out of 4 authors my favorite authors were involved in this project. Sorry folks! I did not read the last story which apparently is the longest one in the book, and written by Milla Vane an alternate name for author Meljean Brook. This review is for the three nov

Secrets at Midnight is such a great read, like all the other novellas by Nalini Singh. I loved that the story began with Bastien’s sensing of his mate. What followed was a super beautiful mating dance. I was captivated by Kirby’s secrets the same way Bastien was. A loving story, sexy and sensual, but what stood out was the love of the pack, of family.

Sorry ~ I couldn’t tell Kirby’s secrets. I had no doubt that you’d love reading about them, though. Five Captivating-Mating-Dance Stars 💘💎⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Night Shift is a anthology of four different authors: Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews, Lisa Shearin, Milla Vane. Now I read the first two books, but the last two didn't hold my interest so I set those aside fairly quickly.

Secrets At Midnight was my favorite out of the two novellas that I was able to read. Nalini Singh to this day is one of my favorite authors to read and she conquers novella's like no other author I have seen. They always s

Magic Steals: 3 stars. The story was fine, a bit boring and nothing I'd ever read again. But I didn't want to kill people like I do when I read Andrea's novellas. Jim was the best part of the story. It was nice seeing other facets of his personality besides super paranoid spymaster/head of security, so paranoid he hides the coffee. Dali's inner voice/narration is so insecure. If I was an 800 lbs white tiger with mystical magic, I'd be bitch slapping anyone and everyone who annoyed me with my gia ...more
