This is the third book of Ms. Henrie's that I've had the pleasure of reading. I am always astounded by the depth of emotion she is able to put into the story. She's able to help the reader to feel and understand the sense of loss the character feels over a loved one. The joy of finding love again after loss. The unjustified guilt that comes with surviving when another has not. Ms. Henrie shows the horrors of war without the gorey details. Even the supporting characters had very natural ways of a

Each book in this series can stand alone, which is something that I really enjoy. I haven't read a lot about WWI and enjoyed getting a feel for what that war was like through the eyes of these fictional characters.
Evelyn is a strong woman. Raised by elderly grandparents, she has a knack for nursing and is determined to do what she can to support her country in the war. She is serving in France and finds herself in a forbidden situation--pregnant and unwed. She finds a way out by proposing to an ...more

Hope Rising is the second book of the Of Love and War Series and it was simply delightful.
While book one of the series is set stateside, this second book of the series is set in France with much of the story occurring in a hospital. Joel and Evelyn meet under dire circumstances. Some may find their romance to be "instalove", however, I did not. I believe in times of war feelings are more intense and I didn't find it unrealistic for their relationship to grow as quickly as it did.

Set in France during World War One, Nurse Evelyn Gray is dealing with the tragic loss of her fiancé, who was killed in battle. Corporal Joel Campbell, his best friend, wounded in the same battle, ends up being cared for by Nurse Gray. They eventually realize the link they share, a friendship and more begins. This was a heart wrenching tale of love, loss, and redemption. Stacy Henrie is becoming a favorite historical fiction author of mine. I look forward to the next installment in this series.

The Of Love and War series flew in under the radar so to speak. I haven't read much in the way of promotion from the publisher or about the author until recently, but these short little romances have trotted their way to the top of my book list for 2014 beating out some big names! With the first book, we met the Campbell sister, Livy, on the homefront during The Great War. Hope Rising follows Joel through battlefield and field hospital where he meets his best friend's girl, nurse Evelyn Gray. Ea

Hope Rising is the second novel in this series, and it is also set in 1918 during World War I. This story begins in France and narrates the story of Corporal Joel Campbell whom we met briefly in the first novel and Evelyn Gray, a serious young nurse serving in the Army Nurse Corps. Joel is a handsome, honest young soldier serving in the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) in France.

I won this book for FREE on Goodreads. This is an amazing book about a young girl named Evelyn who is a nurse in the Army Corps in France during WWI. She is the daughter of a doctor so she has helped save many lives during her life. She helped to save the life of a soldier named Ralph and even though they are not permitted to be involved with any soldiers, he asks her to dinner. She goes and they fall in love and plan to marry when he gets his next leave. She finds out that she is pregnant and s

“Hope Rising” by Stacy Henrie is a novel about World War I in France. It is the second book in the “Of Love and War” series. The United States Army Nurse Corp, established in 1901, had approximately 10,000 nurses serving overseas. If these nurses married or became pregnant, they were honorably discharged and sent home.
This story is about one of those nurses. She discovers that she is pregnant and tells Ralph, but he is killed in the trenches before they can be married. Corporal Joel Campbell is ...more

Another great addition to the "Of Love And War" series! All of the books take place around WWI, but unlike book one, this story was set in Europe. I really enjoyed being able to see things from that perspective.

Book two in Stacy Henrie’s Of Love and War series, Hope Rising, is about a young nurse, Evelyn Gray that falls in love with a soldier, Ralf, while on leave. After finding out she is pregnant, he says he will come marry her the next time he gets leave. Tragically Ralf is killed in battle before he can marry Evelyn. After hearing this shattering news from Ralf’s best friend Joel, who was wounded in the same battle, Evelyn must decide how to handle the situation. As Joel heals at the hospital, he i

What a heart-warming, emotion wringing, beautiful tale of love lost, found and given during a very hard time. This author paints a picture with words of war time sufferings, pains and triumphs for those of us who will never know. A story that flows and takes you along for the well-written ride of a book life-time. War-time nurse Evelyn has some tough life changes happening to her. Corporal Joel has to deal with injuries, healing, and guilt. Sorrow and changes haunt them both as they try to disco

I received Hope Rising from First Reads, the giveaway program on Goodreads. It took me a while to read it (mostly because I don’t really like to read inspirational romance), but, once I did, I regretted that it took me so long! The story captivated me immediately. I love historical romance, especially anything having to do with the last 1800s and early 1900s, and Hope Rising did not disappoint on that front.

Stacy Henrie's "Hope Rising (Of Love and War #2)" is a sweet story with two endearing main characters, Evelyn Gray and Joel Campbell. The writing is good and keeps the reader's interest. This is the kind of book my mother would love, as she is into historical romances (clean and inspirational - not the bawdy type). This was the first time I had read any of Stacy Henrie's works and I am quite pleased and would definitely buy her books again, especially as gifts for fans of the genre. A year or s

This book caught my attention from the very start as the story quickly developed. At first I thought I knew just what was going to happen but several twists kept me eager to turn the page. It also opened my eyes to the experiences that army nurses had during the war which is a part of history that I was unfamiliar with. The references to God and faith helped me relate to the characters as they faced their trials and the challenges of their lives. I highly recommend this book (and series)to anyon

Lovely romance set against the backdrop of WWI France. Evelyn and Joel are interesting characters brought together by circumstance, and what starts out as a solution to a problem turns into love. Ms. Henrie writes a historically accurate tale with beautiful style. This is Inspirational Romance at its best.

I truly enjoyed this book. Stacy really makes you fall in love with the characters. I found myself not being able to put it down because I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. I was sad when I turned to the last page because I was interested in reading more about how the characters lives unfolded. It is a wonderfully written story.
