I loved reading this book as much as I loved reading the first one! It is nothing but action packed from the very first page to the last! I wouldn't recommend reading this one without the first one as it won't mean as much. But, if you don't need to know what happened previously, then it could be a stand alone book.

Linvin does finally get the Red Sapphire that cost him his parents but even with it, he still falls back on his bitterness from time to time and all he wants to do is punch someone

Now I'm trying to not reveal anything that would spoiler this book for anyone so if I get a little cryptic just bear with me. The first thing I want to talk about is the beginning of the story and the prologue as well. It's been awhile since I have read the previous book and a lot had happened in the first book so I was worried that I may have forgotten something, especially something important, but my fears were soon squashed because the author prepared his readers quite well by producing a

The omniscient point of view flies from character to character like a soaring dragon in this excellent fantasy novel. Beings from the beginning of time wrote the rules for elves, humans and goblins. The same game is played again and again throughout history, but when our heroes, and the characters we love to hate are involved, the scenario becomes personal to the reader.

I found the ebook hard to put down from start to finish, which happened in record speed. The main character is far stronger in

The book starts with a short recap of what happened in the first novel. Some people noted that they didn’t like it but I rather enjoyed it. I remember one time reading a review where the reviewer said they wished that books in series came with a “previously on…” section. Perhaps if the author had specified that the beginning was a recap, those who didn’t care for the recap could just skip it and get into the story. However, like I said I really appreciated it because I didn’t read both books bac ...more

Rival Gates' talent for world building and creating relatable, complex characters makes the world of The Sapphire Crucible immersive and colorful, and the often surprising detail (especially as seen through the eyes of its main protagonist, Linvin) gives it even more realism. (Linvin seems to have a penchant for noticing things that no one else does and using them to his advantage; things like the way tiles are positioned on a roof!)

There is a preface section to this book, which describes the ma

This is a story so epic you won't want to put it down! From the characters to every sub-plot, the entire book so well developed and thought out. A gripping read filled with elves, humans, goblins and every mythical creature imaginable. Add in a brilliant mix of humor, suspense, action, adventure and fantasy, this is well written tale that will remain timeless.
You will fall in love with Linvin Grithenshield as he takes up a quest he was trained for all his life without knowing it. His uncle and

I was born in the USA and moved to Canada when I was 5. My mother was American and my father was originally Canadian before trading his citizenship. I lived in Canada until I graduated highschool. I returned to the United States where I graduated from Michigan State University. While I was there I met the most wonderful woman on this earth and amazingly she agreed to be my wife. We have been marri ...more
