Sugar Springs #3

Sprinkles on Top

Rate this book
For Holly Marshall, there’s no such thing as a perfect match. That’s reflected in the unpredictable, fun clothing combos the aspiring artist wears around her hometown of Sugar Springs—and in her inability to fit in anywhere else. But when she sets out to prove to her family that she’s ready to grow up by settling down, could she have found her perfect mismatch in a play-by-the-book guy wearing a business suit?

High-powered attorney Zack Winston is a man who always gets what he wants. While Holly wouldn’t mind sampling what Zack so deliciously has to offer, she needs someone who plans to stick around—and Zack’s disdain of small towns suggests he won’t. But as the camaraderie of Sugar Springs begins to charm, and Zack’s brothers show what family is all about, he and Holly may just get the chance to have it all…if they’re brave enough to reach out and take it.

If I were to ask you what you thought of when I said, “sprinkles on top” what would you think? Would you think of cupcakes with pink frosting and multi-colored sprinkles? Until I read this book, I did. Now, I think “happy”. Still kinda weird, right? How about pancakes with whipped cream and tons of sprinkles? “Everyone needs happy pancakes once in awhile.” Translation, everyone deserves to be happy.

Sprinkles on Top the third book in Kim Law’s Sugar Springs Series is all about finding what makes you happy; be it love, friendship, family, acceptance or understanding. For Holly Marshall and Zack Winston, their “happy” is all the above.

Zack Winston was adopted at birth by a loving, wealthy couple in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s never been a secret that he was adopted. What has been a secret is the fact that Zack has never thought he was good enough. Forced to take a vacation from his job and forced by his mother, Janet to make amends for the way he treated his biological brothers, Cody and Nick, Zack finds himself driving to Sugar Springs, Tennessee.

Holly Marshall is the youngest of five kids and the only girl. She’s never been taken seriously and has never been looked at as her own person. Holly marches to the beat of her own drummer. She’s unconventional and she does it on purpose. It’s just her way to stand out and be noticed. She’s a fantastic artist who is now doubting her own ability after being put down and rejected in Chicago.

These two people needed each other. But most importantly, they're right for each other. Holly wants to be her own person and seen and appreciated for who she is. "I noticed every last damned thing about you.” Zack is the one she opens up to and shares her dreams with. He's also the one who looks at her shoes. Zack has made it his mission in life to prove to his parents that he was worthy of them picking him. He's made it his mission to be successful and not risk turning into scum like his birth mother. But with all his missions and expectations he put on himself, he forgot what it meant to slow down and smell the roses, to truly enjoy life. I mean for crying out loud, the man drives from Georgia to Tennessee in a freaking suit. Who does that? Holly makes him laugh and smile like there's no tomorrow.

I’m amazed that Kim managed to take a man I hated and turn him into someone I loved. She has managed to give all the characters in this book and the whole series for that matter tremendous depth, soul, and just overall feelings to make them real. To make you want to get to know them and have them accomplish whatever their hearts dare.

Sprinkles on Top is a funny, heartwarming story that will take you on a journey of friendship, heartbreak, love, and discovery. And make you hungry for freaking pancakes. You will laugh and cry, and in the end feel as if your heart is going to burst from the sheer magnitude of the final events of the book.

This book was absolutely 100% great. Holly was bold and funny. Zack was uptight and cranky. They were both sort of childishly keeping things in. Which of course makes the story. Seriously it would've been 5 stars for me if they didn't constantly not say what they felt for each other. I also liked the connection between the brothers being rebuilt and sticking with the theme from the other books.

What a wonderful ending to a beautiful trilogy and IMO, Ms. Law had done a wonderful job with this novel. I think this is the best of the three books. Sprinkles on Top brought butterflies in my stomach and it gave me a bad case of giddies.

Zack, finally came to his senses to gave his siblings a chance at relationship. After treating them with nothing but rudeness, he was accepted with their arms wide open as well as watchful eyes. Okay, not with arms wide open, but a chance to redeem himself. Zack is not hard to like or love. With little time, he will win their hearts along with Holly’s attention leading him a whole new world of small town love.

I loved Zack and Holly’s story, not as much as Leanne and Cody’s story, but I think this was the best read out of the three books. Sprinkles on Top was complete with small town gossip and meddling friends and neighbors. There was a dash of heartbreak, and awe inducing scenes. It was cute and romantic.

I am a bit sad that this series had ended. I have totally fallen in love with this small town and its lovable characters and utterly sweet stories. Zack’s character reminded me of Cody from the first installment, Sugar Springs. Their story is not necessarily the same, but I was just so drawn to them. Especially what the heroes had to do to win their heroine’s hearts. I will avoid spoilers, but the courtship was just so damn sweet. There are a few intriguing characters in this town that hopefully will be spin-offs to this series. It’ll be a shame and waste of book boyfriends if Ms. Law opted not to write about them.

If you’re looking for a light and lovable read for the summer, I recommend this series. These books are stand alone but reading them all will be worth your time.

As a stand-alone, or third in the Sugar Springs series, Sprinkles on Top is an engaging, fun read. Kim Law provides wonderful character development with unique heroes and heroines. Her story development flows well, making her characters come alive. I won't give you a story synopsis since you can find that online. What I will say is that you will enjoy this book, you might even laugh out loud, and you will probably want to visit Sugar Springs! I hope Ms. Law will visit Sugar Springs again, since Brian, Jesse and Hounddog need their stories told. Personally, I would love to own a Holly original!!! (Read the book. I bet you'll want one, too!)

I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advance copy. This is my favorite Sugar Springs story! Holly beats to her own drum - she's unique, she's fun, she has a great sense of humor and a hidden artistic talent - but her confidence is lacking. Zack is a stick in the mud who came to Sugar Springs to get to know his brothers, but quickly learns that he enjoys being around Holly. Holly and Zack complement each other well. Their story is one well worth reading.

Kim's writing style allows you to get to know her personable characters while still moving you through the story. You will laugh out loud (or at least grin a bit), want to smack Zack a time or two, and find yourself rooting for them. It is the perfect summer beach/weekend/late night read!

Love, love, love this book!!! Best book I have read all summer. Great love story of miss-matched lovers. Shows us all that opposites do attract. Sweet and lovable Holly (everybody's "friend") breaks down all of Zack's walls that he has put up to spare himself from getting hurt by falling in love. I loved Holly's intuition that's tied to her zany shoe choices. Zack is not who he appears to be and Holly knows it. Ooh ... love sneaks up on all of them. Ooh's and ahh's will abound and you will feel all mushy on the inside as you identify with the heroine. Pow! Take it all in and consider yourself lucky to be in on this love affair. This is a sit down and read in ONE sitting Book!!!!!Awesome book Kim Law once again.

Sprinkles on Top, is one my favorite reads this summer. Sugar Springs, small town romance at is best. Quirky, Holly returns home to Sugar Springs a little defeated when Zack ( loved Zackie), uptight lawyer come to Sugar Springs to make amends with his brothers, Cody and Nick. Zack only plans on spending two weeks in Sugar Springs, little did he know things may change in his plans. Loved Holly's shoes through out the whole book, and the soft side of Zack, ok so it did take a little time to come out. Kim Law can not have a book without a meddling character, this one would be Zack's mom. Loved Janet! She always had her two cents to give to Zack.
I can see a few more books coming out the secondary characters, I just love Sugar Springs. Now I am going to make some Happy Pancakes!

This was a First read win, and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride to Sugar Springs, TN. Holly Marshall returns home to Sugar Springs after a failed trip to Chicago trying to market her mirror creations. She tells her mother she wants to get married & have babies. Only there is no man in her life. When Zach Winston arrives in town to stay at her family's B & B, she unwittingly falls in love with him. I was able to predict the ending, but I so loved the journey both Holly & Zach travel to get to it.

I had not previously read any books in the series, but I would definitely do so. I loved the writing style of the author.

I loved this book. I think it was my favorite in this series. I loved Holly and Zack, loved what they were both living with individually and we're trying to figure out to together. They had so much in common, both so vulnerable and in need of love. This book made me laugh and cry. I just loved it!! Kim found a beautiful way to tap into their individuality, express it and make it something unique that deserved to be celebrated instead of made fun of. If you have not read this full series you should, all three books are great, but I think this was a wonderful way to cap it off.

I won this book in a GoodReads First Reads Contest! Although, I own several of Kim Law's books this is the first one I have read and I am shooting myself for not reading her books sooner! She has a way of drawing the reader deep into the story with unique, beautifully flawed characters who are easy to identify yourself with. Holly and Zack's story was a wonderfully romantic comedy full of fun, passion and heart warming moments! I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it! I have also added Kim Law to my MUST-READ Authors list!

OMG! loved this book! I loved the story, loved the hero and heroine. Loved the family members. I think the characters were very well developed and likable. I loved Zach, and seeing how he changed his mind about his brothers, the small town. I think the best thing about Zach was his relationship with his mother, she cracked me up how she was so involved with his life. Holly, loved her vulnerability but also how she had strength. The shoes were great! I have nothing bad to say about this book and will read it again.

An absolutely awesome read!! All our favorite characters are back and as always Kim Law has written a beautiful love story that grabs your heart from the beginning! Holly is back in Sugar Springs dejected and a little lost. Obnoxious uptight Zach Winston is in Sugar Springs to try and connect with Nick and Cody (the brothers he never knew he had).

If you haven't started this series I highly recommend you do! Small town romance at it's best and this book is an absolute must read!

I have loved all three of the Marshall brothers books. Zach and Holly just might be my favorite couple out of the three. I enjoyed reading more about the other two couples as well. I enjoyed all of the twists and turns throughout their story, as well as the secondary story of Holly and her mirrors. I would highly recommend this book and the whole series to anyone.

Ms Law's third book in the Dalton Brothers trilogy is a wonderful ending to the men's lives in Sugar Springs. The characters are wonderfully drawn; the storyline is full of issues dealing with past painful childhoods, adoption, and self confidence.

This is a most enjoyable read.

Best of the three in the series

Despite the somewhat sappy ending, the rest of the story was stronger and more "believable" than the prior two in this final of the series. While the first two had the love interests at such odds with one another and no reason to get past the bickering, this one actually set the two up to the perfect amount of conflict and misunderstandings. This third installment in the series you were rooting for the two reluctant love birds to find a way to make it work, by comparison the first two in the series you wonder what the point was, why they continued, and what was the draw to one another...the authors work has improved by this book. Though, it was helpful to read the first two, if only for the background information developed there as you continued on your journey in this small southern town. One explicit sex scene for those who care, the rest though, was a nicely developed story with all the good, the bad, and the misread situations of a developing relationship. It's always best to not pretend you don't care when you do, or else the consequences of those actions may disappoint you, and lead you down the wrong path. That said, why is it authors feel romance stories must have two things: a minimum of at least one detailed hot sex scene, and the ending where everything is wrapped up and any potential loose ends tired nearly in a little bow for final presentation?! A strong 4 out of 5 stars for the good writing with exception for the bleh-based-blind following of a traditional genre format.

Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

I’m a little sorry to see this series end.

I listened to the first two books in this series last summer but didn’t make time to listen to this one. Considering that I’ve probably read over 300 books since then I was pleasantly surprised at how much I remembered about this series of connected stories.

I loved how strong and determined Holly was to make a success of her business, even after suffering several rejections. Considering that this book is nearly nine years old nothing about it felt the least bit dated to me.

I knew that Holly and Zack would end up together but the journey they had to go on to get there made for a really great story. Zack had to nearly lose everything before he got his head out of his xxx but I knew that he would come around.

Natalie Ross did another great job performing this story. The voices for each of the three brothers were just enough different that I could tell them apart and I think she did a very good job with all of the difference voices in this book.

It would be hard for me to pick a favorite in this series but this one was really special.

“You ruined my pancakes.” “No I didn’t, sugar. I made them happy.” He liked when Holly went all Southern on him and called him sugar. Zack, the big-time-big-city-lawyer was liking a lot about Holly. He came to Sugar Springs to make things right with his twin brothers, not to make anything with anyone else. Sometimes you just can’t help it.

Holly was determined to find herself a husband and settle down. Convinced that her life in the small town warranted just that, she would make it her mission. But every time she sets her eyes on Zack, that mission takes on a whole new meaning. Would their paths collide in happily-ever-after or would they crash?

~ I loved this! A really sweet finale to the three part series that did disappoint.

Holly has come home after hoping to find a place for her art. She feels that her family doesn’t quite see her. She is just not sure of her place after the disappointment of Chicago. Cody and Nick have found their other brother Zack and they go to visit him. Things do not go that well on their initial visit. Luckily Zack’s mom nudges him to go and visit his brothers and to get to know them. Zack will need to make amends for how he acted to get in their good graces. Holly and Zack are attracted to each other – but he is only there for 2 weeks and Holly is looking for forever. This is a nice story of learning to trust again.

Tear jerker

Better have tissues for this story. If you thought Nick and Joanie were complete opposites, they have nothing on Zack and Holly. Zack is an uptight lawyer, while Holly is more free what with wearing crazy shoes that don't match her attire. These two finally drop their guards and find their happily ever after. This has been a wonderful series about three brothers, their life's, issues and second chances.

Having read e few titles by Kim Law, when this set came up at £0.99 each, I bought them. Book #1 was okay, book #2 took a long time to get going and I nearly abandoned it, but the second half was much better than the first. Had it not been I may not have bothered with book #3. Again this book took a while to get going and I was wondering if I would give it 2 or 3 stars, however the better second half confirmed a 3. Some very touching moments, but let down by on over-long start.

Best of the series

This one truly had a strong story line. You just love all the 3 brothers. The love interests were fine. The mother Janet and MsG the local gossip steal the show.
