The Night #2
Bloody Is the Night
Unbeknownst to humans, the werewolves of the world live in tight knit gangs, or “dens”, for protection from outsiders – and each other. Every major metropolis has one; to belong to a den is to have a family for eternity. Shaye Cassidy, an unhoused human woman scraping by on the streets of Los Angeles, hasn’t had anything close to a family in over ten years. Shaye left her home under a cloud to chase the dream of a new start, a dream that quickly turned into a nightmare; a nightmare that grows even more twisted when Shaye witnesses a werewolf killing a fellow unhoused man.
Andy Vasquez is a top member of Sangre Sagrada, second only to the den leader herself. When she tasks him with tracking down a werewolf gone rogue, someone who is killing humans for sport and risking the exposure of their world, Andy dedicates all his resources to the task. He couldn’t have predicted that the key to uncovering the identity of the rogue wolf would be a human woman, any more than he could have predicted that he would fall in love with her.
Now, Andy must protect Shaye not just from the rogue wolf, but also from those within his den who wish she would disappear. Shaye has her own secrets, however, and in the city of angels, everyone has a devilish side.

Bloody Is The Night by Robin Jeffrey, is about a homeless girl named Shay who watched her best friend Caleb be murdered by a beast. She soon learns is a rogue werewolf. When Andy, who is also a shifter finds out there was a witness to Caleb‘s death. he learns who it is, and after a chase, he finds Shea, who at first is totally antagonistic towards him. The atmosphere between the two totally change into something different while they search for this rogue killer, but is he looking for a stranger or should he be looking closer to home. I do want to say I really loved Caleb and Andy, but there were times that Shey really got on my nerves for the most part I did like her and I definitely recommend this book. If you like intrigue and the political nature of higher Archies the new will definitely like this one. I wouldn’t say this is a book for those who love the romances because they do have that, but it doesn’t overwhelm the story. I think this is more a story for those who like mystery, and intrigue so if you like that with a bit of Shapeshifting, you would like this book I also want to say I didn’t read the first book but will definitely be looking for the next one. #NetGalley, #robinJeffrey, #BloodyIsTheNight,

Just like her Cadence Turing series, Jeffrey's "The Night" books get better with each entry! The action in this sequel is more intense, the characters feel richer, and the spice even spicier. I fully endorse it, you read it at once!

I just finished this ARC that I’ve been reading for a few days,
The premise of the book is it in our world that just happens to have werewolves, no info on any other magic or other creatures.
Our MMC is a type of werewolf detective who’s on the outs with his den.
Our FMC is a woman who lives on the streets and happens to oversee a murder.
This book is the second in the series and I’m not sure if they are semi-standalone or not, but I have not read the first book.
I’m not quite sure if there is more worldbuilding or explanations in the first book, but I will say it was rather light in this book. So I took it to mean that it is essentially in our universe, however, I could be wrong.
I really liked the side character, Caleb and wish there was more information about him, he acted like a father figure for our two mains, however so little info was given about him.
There was no backstory, and no point of view from him so you’re left kind of wondering why he is helping at great personal risk with no reward.
The romance got better towards the end, but it felt very forced and unnatural in the beginning.
I think it was supposed to be enemies to lovers, but I wanted to feel some more passion and some more resistance from the two characters before they just decided to get together and live happily ever after.
They both went through pretty terrible things, especially MMC. I just didn’t feel that the push and pull was given its due considering their pasts.
My main issue is so much of this book could have been avoided without the miscommunication trope between two of the characters. Which, would’ve left more options for the big bad to do other things that were more evil or manipulative. it just felt that he didn’t do anything yet. All of the evil was very quickly moved past and what little did happen was all off page.

Bloody is the Night by Robin Jeffrey
The Night #2
Interesting and intriguing addition to the series ~ Shaye and Andy have their work cut out for them to stay alive and take down a rogue werewolf…if they can
What I liked:
* Shaye Cassidy: human, on her own on the street for the past decade, ran from a difficult past and everything she knew, has a “gift” that is not easy to live with, rather attracted to Andy
* Andy Vazquez: werewolf, sent to track down a rogue wolf, scoops up a witness to the rogue wolf’s kill, born-werewolf, had a rough time a year ago, rather attracted to Shaye
* Caleb Beck: denless wolf, without a “family”, centuries old, lethal, strong, alone, mercenary and/or consultant, intriguing, would like to read a story about him in the future
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The escape factor it provided today
* The Nameless den and being reminded of the part they played in the first book
* That Shaye’s “gift” proved an asset eventually
* Learning the back story of both main characters and the chemistry between them
* Being able to thoroughly dislike the rogue wolf and be happy that that thread of the story was tied off
* The billiards game and the bets placed by Shaye and Andy while playing
* Wondering what and if there will be overlap of the books in the series and if the main characters of the books will meet up at some point in the future
* Knowing that there is another book to look forward to.
* All of it really except…
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Not knowing enough Spanish to understand all that was in the story
* Having to wait for the next book and not knowing how many books there will be in the series
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes
Thank you to BookSirens and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

DNF @ 42%
2.5 stars
I told myself I'd stop DNF-ing books this year because I've done it so many times here in the back half now that I allow myself to. I don't *like* DNF-ing books, especially ARCs, and ESPECIALLY indie. And overall, in most of that 42%, there was nothing too horrendous. I wasn't really caught by the writing (something about it felt strange to me), but I could have pushed through that. Then one character gives another character EXTREMELY VITAL INFORMATION THEY ASKED FOR THAT POINTS TO A HUGE DANGER IN THE DEN, and instead of caring about that, the other character is just like "no, you suck, you did things wrong, gonna punish you and ignore everything else you said." And when the plot relies on that... I'm sorry, but nope, I'm out. Again, something I could have pushed through, but when paired with writing that just couldn't solidly grip me, I decided I wasn't going to force myself onward.
Overall, the book isn't bad. If the plot sounds interesting to you, and you're less picky about writing, I do recommend. There's some fun paranormal lore, bits of action, a fun gruff mentor/father figure walking around with the FMC and MMC, and let's not forget the mystery aspects which were enjoyable. And for all I know, the event that I absolutely didn't like could have been a misunderstanding, so if you're more invested in the book than I was, that may end up never being a problem that was there to worry about.
So, feel free to try it out for yourself, but unfortunately, I'm out (what, are you on Shark Tank now, me?)

Shifter/human event propels unlikely people together; easily 3.5 stars
Robin Jeffrey is a new author to me. This was a shifter story where a rogue wolf is making it hard for the Sangre Sagrada den to remain unknown to humans. In fact, recently a human named Shaye Cassidy witnessed the gruesome killing of her friend who also lives on the streets of Los Angeles. Shaye at 29yo left home to become anonymous among the homeless to protect her friends and family. This part seems a bit contrived: she thinks that she is the cause of all the bad things that happen. Really?! The den sends out two werewolves: Andy Vasquez and Caleb Beck to find her. When they finally catch Shaye, they realize they have a challenge in getting her to see what needs to be done. What Andy doesn’t realize is that there are plans being made that he is not privy to. Fortunately, Shaye has a gift of her own that may save them all. But will she let herself feel loved?
I enjoyed this book. Some parts were thrilling when the chase scenes are occurring and the den intrigue. My biggest difficulty in reading this book was so much Spanish language included which I had to look up to understand the scene. I studied Spanish many, many years ago so some was easy but most was not, especially further into the book. I don’t know if footnotes would have helped here, but even my translation app did not get some of the phrases. Anyway, this was an intriguing shifter/human romance which was entertaining overall. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.

▸Paranormal romance
▸Urban fantasy
▸Werewolf
▸Werewolf den
▸Mystery/suspense
▸Strong FMC
▸Devoted MMC
Shaye's nightmare always comes true, when she was about to warn about her best friend's death, Shaye instead saw firsthand how her best friend dies horribly torn apart by a werewolf; and being the only eyewitness puts her life in danger. Andy Vasquez is assigned to track down a werewolf gone rogue and investigate the murder cases by this rogue wolf, his search leads him to meet Shaye, then Andy must protect Shaye not just from the rogue wolf, but also from those within his den who wish she would disappear
I found the story to be engaging right from the start, there is a good amount of action and romance, I was hooked from the very beginning! the characters were well developed, I love the banter between the MCs, and the pacing was fast and well written. the only issue I had with this book was that I relied a lot on a translator to understand some of the Spanish phrases in the book, but I'm glad I got to know some of the Spanish in this book. definitely an interesting read, if you like paranormal romance with mystery and suspense, you need to read this book!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. huge thanks to the author and for giving me an advanced copy of this book! ♥️♥️

I bought this book at Emerald City Comic Con. If you've been following my reviews, I've been delving into romantasy and figuring what I like and what I don't like. I was curious about this one because it was pitched to me as a modern day neo-noir taking place in Los Angeles. The story follows our FMC and MMC's points of views. The first half has a lot of intrigue, detective work, and really getting to know this Spanish wolf den's dynamics. We get to know Shaye, our FMC, a transient living on the streets of LA and Andy, our MMC, who wants to get to the bottom of these murders. I could see the first half played out in black and white like an old film noir movie. As a Los Angeles native (also reading this book during a conference in LA), it does capture places and locations fairly well. The reader is thrusted into a world where werewolves simply exist clandestinely among humans. I do enjoy urban fantasy; I haven't read the first book but I felt this was a decent stand alone. I felt this was more of a crime drama and murder mystery than romance, but the spicy scenes were still pretty fun to read. Spice is light and is a good intro for folks exploring what spice works best for them. If you enjoy urban fantasy with LA flair that happens to have werewovles around, this is worth a look at.

As a fan of shifter stories, I was happy to receive a free copy of this book.
I will start by saying that they are not technically shifters, but werewolves. I may have initially misunderstood the blurb… It is also pretty graphic at the start, which I thought was kind of scary!
That said, it was actually a pretty good book. Having previously been "unhoused" myself, I can completely sympathize with Shaye. It is surprising when you find that someone may actually be interested in you, when you physically have nothing to offer. There were only two steamy scenes, but they were definitely worth it! My only real problem was that every now and then, there is Spanish thrown in (even mid sentence), so I would have to stop to look some things up.

This is my first book by Robin Jeffrey. Overall, it's a good read. The basic idea of the story is intriguing, and some of the characters are interesting.
I didn't give the book a higher rating for several reasons. There wasn't enough background on Andy to get a sense of him, just mentions of an event from one year prior. The Shaye character was a bit strange - I'm sure there are other ways of 'disappearing' than living on the streets. In addition, the story had some inconsistencies, the dreaded 'falling in love in one day' trope, and more sex than necessary.

thanks to netgalley for providing an e-arc in exchange for a review!
this was incredibly entertaining, not the most hard hitting or deeply emotional, but the constant action and the budding relationship between Shaye and Andy was so fun to read. i wish there had been a little bit more werewolf-y things in this, but it didn't make me dislike the book at all. this author does a fabulous job at keeping you grounded in the moment through their writing, which was a plus with how quick this book was.

I enjoyed the story but I spent way too much time looking up the Spanish words. I had a hard time getting going but once I got the story line straight then it made more sense and I enjoyed Shaye and Andy much more.

It is book two in the series but I think it stands ok. Though the opening is in the end of the first book.
Andy is sent to find a rogue wolf set out to expose their secrets.
He's sent with an old rogue wolf Caleb. They are looking for a witness to a horrible crime.
Shaye is homeless but works to make ends meet. She also sees things in her dreams. This is how she wound up witnessing the murder that now has her life on the line.
This story was so good. I loved Shaye and her mouthy attitude. I liked the serious Andy too. I felt it was a perfect match. But I think I loved Caleb all the more.
There are so many intriguing characters and twist after twist. I simply adored them all.
I'm hoping the next book is Caleb if not I hope soon.
Plus I hope the nameless get books and Dona of the pack. Please?
