About the author

Premendra Mitra (Bangla: প্রেমেন্দ্র মিত্র) was a renowned Bengali poet, novelist, short story writer and film director. He was also an author of Bengali science fiction and thrillers.

His short stories were well-structured and innovative, and encompassed the diverse to the divergent in urban Indian society. The themes of poverty, degradation, caste, the intermittent conflict between religion and rationality and themes of the rural-urban divide are a thematically occurring refrain in much of his work. He experimented with the stylistic nuances of Bengali prose and tried to offer alternative linguistic parameters to the high-class elite prosaic Bengali language. It was basically an effort to make the Bengali literature free from softness, excessive romance and use of old style of writing which were prevalent in older writings.

ঘনাদা আগে কখনো পড়া হয়নি। এটাই প্রথম। এযে দেখি বিশ্ব বাটপার। হে হে। মজা পাইছি। আর শুভ্র চক্রবর্তী দারুন খেল দেখিয়েছেন গ্রাফিকাল আর্ট এ।

বাংলা সাহিত্যের অবিস্মরণীয় চরিত্র ঘনাদা সম্পর্কে বহু পাঠকই হয়তো জানেন। অবশ্য সে-জানাও যে খুব বেশি জানা, তা নয়। রীতিমত রহস্যময় এক চরিত্র তিনি। তাঁর বয়স পঁয়ত্রিশ হতে পারে, আবার পঞ্চাশও হতে পারে - দেখে বোঝার উপায় নেই। আসল নাম ঘনশ্যাম দাস। সাহেবরা ডাকেন ‘ডস’ বলে। আর আমরা যারা বাঙালি, আমাদের জন্য ‘ঘনাদা’ই যথেষ্ট। শার্লক হোমসের কারণে ২২১বি বেকার স্ট্রিট যেমনি বিখ্যাত, ঠিক তেমনি ঘনাদার জন্য বিখ্যাত বাহাত্তর নম্বর বনমালী নস্কর লেন। ছোট্ট গলির এই জীর্ণ বাড়িটির চিলেকোঠার ঘরে হঠাৎ একদিন ধূমকেতুর মত এসে তিনি আস্তানা গাড়েন। মেস বাড়ি ছিল ওটা। শিবু, গৌর, শিশির ও সুধীর... এমনি নামের কয়েকজন যুবক সেখানে বাস করে। ঘনাদার দারুণ ব্যক্তিত্ব, কথার প্যাঁচ। সেই কথার প্যাঁচে ওরা সবাই পরাজিত। ওদের ওপর দিয়েই চলে ঘনাদার খরচ। কিন্তু প্রতিবাদ করতে পারে না কেউ, বরং অদ্ভুত এক শ্রদ্ধা ও ভয়ে জড়সড় হয়ে থাকে। হবে না-ই বা কেন? সুযোগ পেলেই জীবনের এক-একটি আজগুবি ঘটনা শুনিয়ে ওদের চুপ করিয়ে দেন তিনি। কী জানেন না ঘনাদা? পৃথিবীর হেন জায়গা নেই, যেখানে যাননি তিনি। দুর্ধর্ষ অপরাধী থেকে শ্রেষ্ঠ বিজ্ঞানী... সবাই তাঁর পরিচিত। মৃত্যু মুখ থেকে প্রাণ নিয়ে ফিরে এসেছেন কতবার... একটি মশা অথবা কাঁচের টুকরোর জন্যে সে কী রোমহর্ষক কাণ্ড! এসব গল্প শুনতে শুনতে শিউরে ওঠে তাঁর শ্রোতারা।

এরকমই অসাধারণ তিনটি গল্পকে এখানে কমিক বইয়ের রুপ দিয়েছে। উপভোগ্য গল্প আর সাথে শুভ্র চক্রবর্তীর অসাধারণ আর্টওয়ার্কের মাধ্যমে একেবারে দারুণ একটি কমিক বই আমাদের সামনে হাজির করা হয়েছে। যারা ঘনাদাকে নিয়ে লেখা আগে পড়েছেন বা পড়েন নি সবার জন্যই বইগুলো হাইলি রিকমেনডেড!

অসাধারণ detailing এ আঁকা ছবিগুলি। যদিও গল্পঃ গুলিকে ঘনাদার সেরা গল্পের মধ্যে ফেলা যায়না।

Perhaps even better than মশা | পোকা | কাচ , the previous graphic novel. The art is more assured - and the language is just as sparkling. The stories that serve as baseline are not quite as good - নুড়ি is all over the place, though তেল দেবেন ঘনাদা is timely, and a proper thriller. Each of মশা, পোকা, and কাচ were amazing - all Ghanada-vs-Hitler stories are. But this is a better graphic novel.

This should really get translated.

These three novellas (তেল দেবেন ঘনাদা, নুড়ি, ছড়ি) had never been my favourites, but these graphic novels update them with great skill, and make the stories more dynamic. Plus, the artwork is great. Recommended.
