Legacy Mechanics #2

It's Complicated

Rate this book
Isaac
For three years Jamie has been my best friend, my roommate, and my wingman. We do everything together, and we live by one simple work hard and play harder. Everything was perfect until what was supposed to be a meaningless threesome between friends changes everything.

Now I can’t stop thinking about that night, and how I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I want Jamie, even if I don’t understand why. We might both be straight, but I can’t ignore the pull between us.

I don’t want to risk losing him, but I can’t keep pretending like nothing happened. And the more time that passes, the more I wonder if he feels the shift between us too.

Jamie
Isaac isn’t just my best friend and roommate, he’s the person I trust most in the world. We’ve been inseparable for three years, and we’re rock solid. Then a mutual ex of ours suggests we have a threesome, and what should have been a fun experiment between friends sends my life into a tailspin.

Now I’m seeing Isaac in a new light. I want him, and I don’t understand why. I try to ignore it so I don’t risk ruining the best friendship I’ve ever had, but that night awakened something in me, and the more time that passes, the more I think it also awakened something in him.

We're both straight, but that doesn’t stop me from picturing my best friend on his knees for me. Or remembering how he looks when he comes.

Isaac and Jamie’s story is a double bi-awakening, best-friends-to-lovers romance featuring two roommates who might not be as straight as they thought. You can expect found family, best friend shenanigans, hurt/comfort, big Golden Retriever energy, some exhibitionism, lots of heat, tons of steam, and all the feels as these two clueless besties realize that sometimes what you want is exactly what you need. It is the second book in the exciting new Legacy Mechanics series but can be read as a standalone. ***Please note that the threesome happens prior to the start of the book and is completely off page***

What can I say about myself? It’s kind of like being the new kid in school and being asked to tell everyone a bit about yourself. Anyone else forget everything they’ve ever liked, thought of, and even their name in those moments?

A few facts about me; I’m a veteran, I’m Canadian, and I love books! I’ve been writing my own stories since I was eight and wrote my first novel at sixteen. I’m the first to admit those attempts weren’t my best work, but they started me on a journey of creating stories that has led me to fulfilling my dream of becoming an author. I’ve written and published in several genres under different names, but MM is by far my favorite, and I’m so happy to be able to share my stories with people today.

I currently live on Canada’s east coast with my kiddo and my cats. I have a shoe collecting addiction, and I enjoy taking long walks, discussions with friends, and reading anything and everything I can get my hands on.

Tropes: friends to lovers, roommates, hurt/comfort
Feels: 3.5/5
Steam*: 3/5
Kinks: exhibitionism, sex in risky places, toys
Angst: low
HEA: yes
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings: bad parents, MMF threesome at the start (on page but not graphic)

Jamie and Isaac have been friends and roommates for 3 years, ever since they got out of college. They are super close, their relationship is the most important thing to both of them. One night, they have a threesome with a mutual ex of theirs, and they see each other in a new light. They can't keep their eyes off of each other and they are secretly both having a sexual identity crisis because all of a sudden they are attracted to a man when they've never been before. After a week of awkwardness, they kiss, and then they talk, and then they decide to start hooking up. It quickly turns into something more serious because they already love each other before they add sex to the arrangement. They are each other's comfort person. They were platonic life partners almost before they became romantic ones.

They are both afraid of scaring the other person off, afraid that the other person doesn't want us serious have a romantic relationship with them. And they are both dealing with personal troubles. Isaac has just found out that his father is getting married to a woman younger than him, who he's knocked up. And doesn't have a good relationship with his mother either. Jamie is at risk of losing his job, and he's kind of worried about his future.

This was a cute book. There wasn't any big drama or angst. Just two men that were a good match, they were each other's rock and they loved each other. There were a lot of funny moments. I liked their friend group interactions. It was funny how they realized that pretty much all their friends knew about them before they even said anything. They thought they were being sneaky, but as soon as they realized one or two knew, they realized they were probably being pretty obvious to the other friends too. It was nice that the epilogue showed them 5 years into the future, settling into their happiness.

Some notable moments:

"But it wasn’t the cleanliness or the candles that caused me to laugh. That would be the message spelled out on his bed in what looked like rose petals: Can I eat your ass? That was so quintessentially Isaac that I had to fight the urge to throw myself into his arms and kiss the hell out of him. First I had to stop laughing, then I could ravish him. “Dumb jock, remember.” He grinned as I composed myself. “Are you good and romanced yet?”"

"“Holy fuck.” Jamie closed his eyes and inhaled sharply. “You definitely don’t suck at romance because that was the most beautiful and romantic thing anyone has ever said to me.” “Is that really an accomplishment when my previous attempt at romance was slapping the lube out of your hand and demanding that you stick your dick in me and fuck me like I owed you money?” I asked with a grin."

"“Tell him he’s being an idiot.” “You’re being an idiot,” Zander said without hesitating. “You don’t even know what we were talking about,” I protested. “No, but are we wrong?” He arched one eyebrow at me. “No,” I grumbled."

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

I don't get the title. Unless the complications arise in the last 33%. Otherwise straight lines are more complicated than these two.

Two besties who start having a mutual attraction to each other at the exact same time?

Neither is bothered by their sexual awakening.

Then mutually decide to explore it with each other? Realize separately that they're in love with the other on the exact same day?

Could not picture a better outcome.

Unfortunately I'm a whore for angst so I didn't have the patience to wait for the problems to occur.

Very basic. But I loved Isaac calling himself Jamiesexual and the scene with them confessing their feelings.

Did not love it enough to continue, though.

DNF at 77%.

"It was crazy, but I wanted more. Wanted to kiss him for real. Careful not to spook him, I slowly leaned up, giving him lots of time to pull away. He met my kiss with a soft sigh that sent another jolt of white-hot heed through me. His lips were soft and hesitant as he slotted our mouths together, our kiss chaste and slow."

It's Complicated is book 2 in the Legacy Mechanics series by Willow Dixon, and I am totally loving this series of linked standalones so far. This is besties Isaac and Jamie's story.

❣️Best friends to lovers

I definitely enjoyed this one more than the first book. Probably because it’s a friends-to-lovers story, or just because Isaac and Jamie had way better chemistry. I do wish there hadn’t been quite so much smut, though. I ended up skipping a lot of those scenes. Same thing happened with the first book, and I’m guessing it’ll be the case for the rest of the series too. Zander’s book is next, and as much as I like him, I think I need a little break and something less spicy in between 😂

Time of death: 85%

I know what you're thinking.... you've come this far just finish it, but unfortunately, nothing was happening to make me want to continue at this stage.

As always, the smut was decent, but i literally could not tell the difference between these 2 for the life of me. I have other thoughts and I might write them later but I also might not

A spontaneous threesome has Isaac and Jamie seeing each other as more than just best friends and roommates.

Z and Jamie are adorable, if not a little oblivious about their feelings for one another, and their story was so sweet & spicy!

What to expect:
- mechanic + bank teller
- roomies
- idiot best friends to lovers
- double bi awakening
- hurt x comfort
- found family
- first times

Loving this new Legacy Mechanics series! This one was a no-angst, bffs to lovers, GFH, double queer awakening. and it was so sweet and cute! I loved their crazy antics and their friendly banter during sexy times. My only complaint about the book was because both characters are so similar, I often lost track of whose POV I was reading, hahah. But overall a simple, easygoing, fun read!

ARC review!

Isaac and Jamie are best friends, and they're also roommates. They share and do everything together, and that goes a step further when they end up in a "meaningless" threesome. They both can't stop thinking about that night, and it's proving to make things a little difficult between them, especially since they're both straight. Both of them don't want to ruin the best friendship they've ever had but what happens when they can't resist anymore. and are desperate to figure out if they even like guys, and more importantly, if they like each other.

Oh my god. It's no surprise I am a massive Willow Dixon fan and absolutely jumped at the opportunity for this ARC. It's the second in the Legacy Mechanics series and so far, it's my favorite. The journey for Jamie and Isaac is so beautifully done in this book. I am totally obsessed with the way their relationship progresses and how they fell for each other. It was perfect. I can't say enough good things about the book. Isaac and Jamie are amazing characters and their story is sweet as hell, steamy as can be, and just so incredibly wonderful.

Well damn, it’s complicated ! I just loved it so much, it’s exactly the kind of romance that I love, when two best friends realise that they’re hot for each other. They already love each other but then the feelings start to go deeper and even if it can be a little awkward at the beginning, their connection looks like it makes it easier for them to cross the line, even if it can be really scary.

Jamie and Isaac are two faces from the same coin, they complement each other so well and already appear like an old married couple who likes to make jokes, bets and other stupid things ! Until the fateful night when they realise that they’re more focused on each other than the woman who is with them. That moment was the breaking point for them and I just loved this story, it was beautiful.
Jamie and Isaac are thoughtful, and funny, their connection is simple and sweet, it was amazing to see them becoming more than friends.

Also, I just love all the other characters, Asa is way too cute and I’m soooo curious about Zander and Lukas !! This is so exciting.

I received an ARC Copy of this book from Foreword PR, this review is from my own thoughts 😍

Friends to lovers with a double bisexual awakening... such a delicious story! I love that this is dual POV so you can watch each man struggle with his feelings and wants. We get a perfect balance of introspection, angst and feels before it ramps up to fantasies, then experimentation and then page melting steam!

It's lovely to watch their intimate relationship blossom on the foundation of true friendship and mutual respect! I found the pacing of this book excellent and there was just enough tease before getting into the relationship without me wanting to shake an oblivious MC.

I love that these books are standalone in the Legacy Mechanics universe and I look forward to seeing what comes next!

There is just way too much sex in this book. I get that these two MCs are trying things out, etc., but there were a few places where chapter after chapter was just about sex. Although we do get to see these guys with some of their friends outside this particular relationship, it would have been better to see much more.

Additionally, some of the sex scenes seemed cribbed from the previous book in this series, and the author uses particular phrases a lot.

Didn't hate it, but ended up skimming all the sex at the end. Very much another case of checking boxes.

Sweet and funny, but also a bit boring and kinda formulaic. Maybe I’m in a slump but this didn’t make me FEEL. Also, eyes that change colours with one’s mood? And it happens to both MCs? Doubtful.

“Being with Isaac felt good. But more than that, it felt right”

(ENG) I'm a big fan of best friends to lovers, and that's the trope of the second book in the Legacy Mechanics series. Isaac and Jamie are also roommates, and after one quirky night, they'll start to see each other in a whole new light.
I really liked how much they care for each other and make their friendship a priority as they discover this new side of their relationship.
Isaac is trying to be romantic, and Jamie is trying to bring some sanity to the situation. They are just the cutest and funniest couple.
The side characters are great, and I'm looking forward to reading more about them.
This was such a light, enjoyable read!

story of Isaac and Jamie

This is a best friends to more romance, featuring Isaac and Jamie, and is book two in the Legacy Mechanic series.

Isaac and Jamie are best friends and roommates and they wake up from a house party with the vivid memories of their 3some with a mutual old hookup. The double awakening begins. Woo hoo!!!!

These two were so entertaining. They were adorably clueless, super close besties and all of their spicy interactions were fire. That first make out session, WOW. This is why you need to buddy read, because I immediately had to talk to someone about it.

This story is fast paced, humorous, spicy, sweet and full of two besties discovering they have been in love with each other the whole time.

I absolutely adore Willow Dixon’s writing style and highly recommend any of her books. I have book three to go in this series and then I might have to go back and reread some others.

Things to expect in this book are:
Book 2 in series
MM romance
Best friends to more
Roommates
Mechanic x Bank teller
Hurt / Comfort
Banter
Golden retriever vibes
Both love gaming
Double bi-awakening
First times
Spicy times
Exhibitionists
Little bit of family drama
Coming out
Idiots in love
Found family

Rating: 5/5 🌟
Spice: 3.5/5 🌶️
Characters: Isaac and Jamie

I'm completely obsessed with everything Willow writes. Every time I finish one of her books I just want to dive back in and relive it. I miss the characters right away.

This follows Isaac and Jamie who are best friends and roommates. They are incredibly close; some might even say a bit too close. One night a party at their place leads to the two of them and a woman together. The experience cements itself in both their brains and refuses to let up. From there they attempt to navigate new feelings, emotions, and urges. All while trying to keep it secret and not let it mess with their friendship.
One of my favorite things in romance books is bi-awakening. This is double bi-awakening, best friends to lovers, roommates, hurt/comfort, golden retriever energy (on both sides really), amazing steam, swoon, and lots of character growth. It's low angst and minimal drama.

The story is mostly easy and fun, more about the journey of these two figuring out their feelings and their growth into adulthood while removing toxicity from their lives.

This series is shaping up to be another one of my favorites and one that will be very easy to revisit when I need a mood boost, or a comfort read.

I rounded to 3 stars purely on my love for other Willow books. This was soooooo boring, nothing was happening. I feel like it takes really good writing to have two MCs with similar personalities and still be able to differentiate them when reading their POVs, and this definitely did not deliver. Maybe I’m in a bad reading mindset right now but it turned repetitive, cheesy and boring.

I don’t know what’s happening with this series but it’s incredibly repetitive, not only within the book but compared to the previous one as well ( shouldn’t have read them back to back ). I’m weak so I’ll probably give the next book a chance regardless.

By the end I was definitely enjoying it. But it was a little boring ngl. I was getting really frustrated at the beginning, everything was very repetitive and both POVs were just saying the same shit. “I can’t believe I’m thinking about my best friend on his knees for me” “I can’t say anything bc he’s definitely over it” etc. and it was BOTH sides saying all of this. Like they both mentioned multiple times that they always tell each other things and have good communication but then refused to talk to each other?????? Make it make sense.

Isaac and Jamie, inseparable for years, had a wild night that turned their world upside down. Everything between them felt off, and they were totally lost on how to act around each other and deal with their new feelings. It was a heartwarming and steamy story of a best friend turning into a lover.

After reading the first book in the series I wanted to immediately dive into the second one...only to find out that it wasn't out yet. Thankfully I was able to get an ARC from Foreward PR and it did not disappoint!

I loved both of the books in this series so far and I don't think it's possible for me to pick a favorite because they're so different. Best friends to lovers, especially when bi-awakening is involved is *chefs kiss* for me. I love how Jamie and Isaac take care of one another and are always very cognizant of how their actions and feelings are going to affect the other person. Loved the banter, the navigating of both family and friendship dynamics and the chemistry was off the charts.

In the middle of a complete binge of Willow Dixon books and I don't regret it one bit. Highly recommend!

Thank you to Willow Dixon & Foreward PR for allowing me to be an early reader. All thoughts are my own. This one is out on November 14th!

ARC REVIEW: Willow Dixon knows how to write a friends to lovers romance! This story was so sweet, I couldn’t put it down. Jamie and Issac’s story is full of dares, spicy first times, and so many adorable moments. These two truly are best friends and know each other so well. The progression from friends to lovers was so natural and made so much sense for them. These two compliment each other so well and had pretty good communication for it being a double bi awakening!

I wanted to love this because the first book in the series was fantastic. I read this in one sitting and I can see what the author was trying to do. This book included some of my favourite tropes including best friends to lovers and a double bi-awakening but unfortunately it still fell short for me. It wasn’t bad it was just… meh.

My main issues were that the characters felt too similar and it was difficult to tell them apart at time and also the plot/spice ratio was off for me. Too much spice and really nothing that happened plot-wise for the whole book.

This may be the book for you if you are after a quick & spicy friends to lovers with low angst. I’ll definitely keep the rest of the series on my radar.

I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.

arc review 🫶🏻

4/5 ⭐

A threesome between two best friends with a mutual ex (which happens before the book begins) creates a tension between the two guys that they can't initially explain. Why did seeing each other in such an intimate situation awaken something in both of them? An attraction they didn't even know they could feel because they both always thought they were straight.

❤️ "𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑠𝑛’𝑡 𝑠𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤 𝑤𝒉𝑎𝑡 𝑚𝑦 𝑏𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑓𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑒𝑑 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑤𝒉𝑒𝑛 𝒉𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑚𝑒."

I really liked the fact that they both started to question themselves thanks to the other 🔥
I was not new to Willow Dixon's pen and this book was just another confirmation of how much I like her books, how she writes and her stories.
I need a Zander who can solve my life like one of the two mc and I can't wait to read the next book (In Plain Sight) about him and Luka, even if I have to say that my soft spot was Asa, I also need his story 🫂
Plus I really like it when characters from other series make appearances.

❤️ "𝑀𝑦 𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑔𝒉𝑡 𝑏𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑓𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑘𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑒."

The easy love in their relationship is one of the things I loved the most, both in the stories of their three years of friendship before and then when things start to change, one of the things that has never been questioned is how they were naturally good together and also for this reason the two of them are just perfect together, it was destiny ❤️‍🩹

❤️ "𝑇𝒉𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑚𝑖𝑔𝒉𝑡 𝒉𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑢𝑠, 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑛𝑜𝑤 𝑡𝒉𝑒𝑦 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑𝑛’𝑡 𝑏𝑒 𝑠𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑟. 𝐽𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑒, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝒉𝑖𝑠. 𝐹𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟."

Although there were times when the two main characters avoided telling each other openly what they felt, it is a very healthy, genuine relationship. In this book the only hatred is towards some parents and bosses but for the rest there is a really healthy, sweet relationship between them and their friends that makes you feel at home. It is a simple and fast read even if sometimes a little repetitive. The book focuses a lot on exploring their relationship in romantic terms and also just as a friendship more than in a big plot. 🔧
