This abridged children's version of the classic novel, Treasure Island tells the story a young boy named Jim Hawkins and his adventure of finding a buried treasure and having to deal with crooked pirates. It is a great adventure story and the book is divided into short chapters and accompanied by pictures.

I feel that the book is a little text heavy and would need to be adapted to fit classroom teaching. If used it would suit a year 4 or year 5 class. The theme of pirates is very fun and the book could form the basis for plot retelling in the form of small group drama performances. The theme of pirates also ties in well with travel and would therefore be good for a geography lesson.

Treasure Island (Illustrated Young Readers Edition)
Adapted by Ronne Randall
Illustrated by Robert Dunn

A classical adaptiation that's short and sweet and brings forward the essence of the magical treasure island story to younger readers with help of children's storytelling narration and attractive illustrations that you'll keep gazing at. This edition of the book provides a quick story, or rather an outline if you compare it to the original one. A casual read. I liked the story, the characters and the narration throughout. A rich and beautiful adaptation of a classical literature. Suitable for kids under 12. The story and plot was good with notable action, betrayal, treasure hunt, pirate ships and adventure. Nice Reading.
