I'm always a fan of epidemic stories, as long as it's not zombies.

I don't know what it is about them. Maybe the unseen enemy that can't be stopped by strength. Maybe the way people step up or fall when the worst is happening. Maybe that there's often just no way to win.

The Peeling Omnibus has several stories that take place during an outbreak of a really awful pandemic. Each is a separate snapshot of England dealing with an outbreak. Media, military, groups of survivors banding together.

Jeremys Choice
I have been looking forward to more of this gruesome, yet riveting, story since it was hinted at as a freebie at the end of Animal-Kingdom: An Apocalyptic Novel (a fantastic read!).
This tale gives you a little glimpse of the horrors inflected upon a variety of individuals, which are unfolding all over the World by a new plague which literally peels the skin off its victims, IRW manages to describe this in glorious Technicolor!
For such a brief tale, you can’t help but be totally ab
I was a bit disappointed in these stories. I was expecting more of dealing with the actual Peeling then it turned out to be. As a whole it was more about humanity against non-humanity in a would that has gone to shit.

Jeremy's Choice was Jeremy dealing with it with those around him. Lot's of peeling here.
The Stadium was about a group of people held in a stadium. There was a brief bit of peeling but it was mostly about the people dealing with surviving in the stadium and with the military.

Shelves: apocalyptic
I loved how each individual novella moved the story forward, but were separate stories in of themselves.

The only reason i deducted one star is a personal one and I must give a spoiler alert before mentioning it: humanity must have a chance to survive, even if it is just a couple of people, to get that final star from me.

Other than that, I love apocalyptic books and Iain Rob Wright writing.

Read it all in the one sitting. Unlike The Final Winter, no different typefaces and outbreaks of hyphens. Gave The Final Winter five stars and likewise with this excellent collection. If you love horror novels and aren't squeamish then I highly recommend this book. Is it the end of the world? Maybes aye, maybes naw. Only one way to find out.
