Sporting Pride #3

Fighting Fate

Rate this book
For years, nothing has mattered except Chipper’s career. Meeting Baylor has made him rethink everything. Baylor doesn’t care.

As one of the most sought-after wedding planners, Baylor is so busy traveling the world he doesn’t even have a home. Years ago, he stuffed his things in storage and simply stayed wherever his latest job took him. Since he mostly works with celebrities and the top one percent, he’s learned to spot the men who are full of it and steer clear. He doesn’t have time for a relationship anyhow. Chipper isn’t special, as much as he’d love to think he is.

Maybe Chipper has seen a lot of beds that aren’t his, but he’s an MMA champion. Having whoever he wants is a perk of the job. No one he’s ever met is as immune to his charms as Baylor. Chipper has wanted no one as badly. Baylor thinks he isn’t interested, but Chipper is no quitter. He got where he is by sheer determination and refusing to back down. He’s not afraid to fight for what he wants, and Baylor is the one.

Fighting Fate is the third book in Charity Parkerson’s Sporting Pride series. These are sports related romances, following men who find love while navigating high-profile careers. These are best enjoyed when read in order.

Would have been better if we weren’t surprised with the dead husband trope half way through the book. Even worse the MC (chipper) had to hear about how for Baylor and his husband it was love at first sight and there wasn’t a stronger marriage than theirs. And then Baylor decides to tell Chipper that Chipper and his dead husband are “just alike.” Great so you basically married your dead husband but in a different body. So annoying!!

I added a spoiler tag because the author put the triggers, death and grieving, at the end as to not spoil the book. But personally for me I would have liked to know this had a dead husband trope before I decided to read it. Because I probably would have skipped it.

For years, Chipper has been singularly focused on his MMA career, a path that has allowed him to have anyone he desires. However, meeting Baylor makes him question everything, even though Baylor seems entirely uninterested in him. Baylor, a highly sought-after celebrity wedding planner, lives a transient life with no permanent home, constantly traveling for work. His experience with the elite has taught him to avoid insincere individuals, and he has no time for a relationship. He views Chipper as no different from the others, despite Chipper's undeniable charm. Despite Baylor's apparent indifference, Chipper, accustomed to achieving his goals through sheer determination, refuses to give up. He's determined to fight for Baylor, convinced that he is the one.

I loved this story with the two men who were damaged in their own way but were also drawn together. I was shocked with the reasons for Baylor's damage and just wanted to hug him. Chipper was such a caring and protective man which was not the impression that an MMA fighter gives. A lot of sensitive moments with emotions and feelings. I loved that they ended up together. This was an MM story with mature content.

🥲 Such a beautiful journey Baylor and Chipper had. So much hope given for their future. The struggle past grief and loss for Bay and the struggle against loneliness for Chipper and fate binding them together was flawless. I inhaled this wonderful story.♥️🌈✨

This story is everything

Stories by this author are always a 1st night read. Somehow this story was everything. It was especially wonderful to to see old friends again because the stories are always a little bit too short And I'm never ready to say goodbye.

S. Charity wouldn’t be charity without someone being sick lol. But this was more emotional than I thought. I’m always pleasantly surprised when they choose to have kids at some point

Great story. Excellent romance!
Repetitive naming takes away from the pacing.
