A Good Place To Stop, 60 Seasons with Max and the Jayhawks
Legendary Jayhawk sports broadcaster Max Falkenstien saw it all in his 60 years of broadcasting the University of Kansas sporting events. Max began his career as a high school junior in the early 1940s. Between 1946 and 2006, Max was behind the microphone for more than 1,750 KU basketball games and 600 KU football games. The Name Max Falkenstien has become synonymous with Kansas Athletics. "A Good Place to Stop" is the sequel to "Max and the Jayhawks"- a compilation of Max's first 50 years of broadcasting. "A Good Place to Stop" picks up where that book left off with recollections from Max's final 10 years as a Crimson and Blue broadcaster, including an athletics department shake-up, the exodus of long-time coach Roy Williams and subsequent hiring of Bill Self along with the hiring of two head football coaches. Once named "the best college radio personality in the country" by The Sporting News, the Voice of the Jayhawks now shares a recollection of his memories in this new book. Join Max as he relives 60 years of players, coaches, games, and the relationships that enabled him to describe the feats of so many Jayhawk student-athletes, in the process making them larger than life to the legions of fans who tuned in for every game to hear Max.

I have religiously followed Kansas University basketball for 57 years. Sports announcer Max Faulkenstein was a big reason for why I love KU and wanted to be a part of the KU educational as well as cultural experience. Max's book "A Good Place to Stop: 60 Seasons with Max and the Jayhawks" was published in 2007. My copy is autographed by Max and it anchors my collection of Jayhawk memorabilia. Thanks Max for being my eyes and ears to KU basketball and football. You profoundly influenced my life and fueled my passion for sports. This book made me laugh and cry at the same time. It is simply great.

I loved hearing Max’s stories. When I first became a Jayhawks fan in 2001, not all of the games were televised so my hubby and I would pull up the radio and listen to the broadcast and it also had such a wonderfully rich tone. Reading these stories took me back to his moments of color and I feel so glad that I got to listen to him for the years that I did. If you like men’s basketball or football at KU, you would definitely appreciate the stories and the history share in this book.
