Everyone should read this book. Not just every Catholic, not just every Catholic, every human.

There is SO much we can learn from Saint (!) John Paul the Great, that I somewhat expected this book to be but a brief introduction to this great man. And it was...but it was so much more. The book is split into 2 parts: the first part is a short biography of the saint where we get to know him a little bit more by the various names he was known as in life, and the second part then dives deeper into the

Some books are good, but others make you want to stop what you're doing and become a holy person. While reading this book, I just wanted to stop and pray. I wanted to say the rosary or go to Mass. I wanted to talk to God or Mary, and it left me feeling like I can be a better person.
Throughout the book, you get to see that John Paul II is very full of love. Of his many loves, Jason Evert keys young people, human love, The Blessed Sacrament, The Virgin Mary, and The Cross as his Five loves. I was

This is an easy-to-read biography about select topics of Pope St. John Paul II's life. As a cradle-Catholic I'm always amazed at the lives of saints and the religious. This book allowed me to be amazed at both his spiritual life as well as his intellectual prowess. Pope St. John Paul II seemed to have a photographic memory, not for books/words, but for people and conversations. What an amazing gift to have in his life! Not just as a priest, but as the Pope and Cardinal before that. His ability a ...more

Not for a long time have I anticipated a book release like I did for this one. And it lived up to the expectations! Thanks to Jason's bulk pricing, I will be using tithing money to send out copies of this book far and wide. If you are a friend or family member of mine, look for it on your door stop soon. St. JP2, pray for us!
One of the most inspiring and beautiful books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I love Pope John Paul II and wish I could have known him better while he was still Pope (he passed away in 2005 when I was only 10). This book offered a wonderful insight into the early years of his life (how he lost his family early, how had to study in secret because of the Nazi oppression and later the Communist oppression, and how he found his vocation to priesthood), then focused on each of his five loves ( ...more

Jason Evert wrote a wonderful and inspiring book about a very wonderful and inspiring man. Pope Saint John Paul II, who this book is about, was an amazing man who preached love, peace, hope, and courage all over the world. Saint John Paul II is the servant of Christ who most inspires me to follow Him. I am so impressed with the connection John Paul II has with everyone, especially the young. I get so inspired by how he bravely preached the teachings of the Catholic Church despite the widespread

Where to even begin? It's not a story, but yet it reads somewhat like a story. A story about one of the greatest Popes & Saints of our time. Pope Saint John Paul The Great (JP2). JP2 was so beloved and so holy during his life that just weeks after his death, the masses were already calling for his canonization to sainthood. Now typically, for those of you who don't know, the canonization process normally does not begin until at least 5 years after the person in question has passed on. But his su ...more

I'm speechless after reading this book! Saint John Paul the Great was truly a saint and truly great.

From his first breath to his last, he was different than all the rest of us. Forged in the furnace of affliction, he became one of God's most treasured gifts to mankind during the 20th century - and more than 4 years of the 21st century.

Reading this book is certainly a challenge to personal holiness and dedication to God and the Church. Pope John Paul II was great because he cultivated a great i

Great book about a great man! I found it both humbling and inspiring.

The first half of the book is a compact biography, while the second half describes his special love for five different things: young people, human love, the Eucharist, Mary and the Cross.

It's well written and engaging, and I would especially recommend it for teens and as an introductory biography of this spiritual giant.

Inspiring. Moving. This book feels like a 'behind-the-scenes' special on the making of a saint - a privileged look at how God crafted His masterpiece in Pope Saint John Paul II. This book is itself wonderfully written - rich in sources, well-researched, and written in an eminently readable and personable style. Furthermore, not only is the book valuable as an insight into Saint JP II's life, it also provides invaluable insight into the kind of intimacy with God and deep interior life that all Ch ...more

I am literally CRYING. One of the best books I have EVER read. Jason Evert does a Fantastic job weaving in a personal narrative then effortless changing to his 5 loves. I recommend this book to anyone catholic or Protestant. Saint John Paul the Great truly resembled what it meant to be a good shepherd.

A beautiful narrative that explains the full life of an extraordinary human. Evert does a fantastic job of explaining the truths, sufferings, and loves of PJP2, in a way that makes you feel like you’re the popes friend. He uncovers pieces of his life before and during his papacy that audibly make you say, “woah!” This book leaves you not discouraged or overwhelmed by his remarkable life, but inspired and encouraged to live a life for God just as PJP2 did.

My love for my faith just grows and grows. He was and still is an amazing person to have in our corner. To have JPII love the way he loved is truly inspiring. My intercessory prayers through him will bear many fruits through Christ. He inspired me to do the Marian consecration, 33 days to morning glory. I highly recommend this book.

This a great read! While Weigel's biography might be the go to book on Saint John Paul II, this book is a welcoming and beautiful look at the five things that shaped the saint. I really enjoyed reading it.

While the life and work of Saint John Paul may be interesting, the book is far from it. Written by a fanatical author, the writing comes across as sycophantic, biased and effusive. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I really loved the first half, which was basically a biography of his early life. The second half dragged at times and I felt like it could have been condensed, to feel a little less like homework.

Very readable.. I felt like Jason Evert was just telling me a story the whole time I was reading this. So many little nuggets about St. JPII that I didn't know. He's just the best.

Going into this book, I'm going to be honest, I didn't know much about JP2. I have heard many talks from Jason Evert and I think he's great. This book, along with a couple others, were given to me in a youth conference I went to a couple of years ago. I knew I was going to eventually read this book I just didn't pick it up immediately; and now, I don't know why I bothered waiting so much.

Pope John Paul II was the pope of my birth and childhood, and I had of course heard many good things about him, and had no doubt that he was a rather extraordinary individual. But I had always been rather wary of the "hype" surrounding him, and tended towards more obscure figures in Church history. It was only recently that I discovered that JPII was not just the pope who traveled across the globe and loved outdoor recreational activities but was also a profound mystic and a poet, delving deeply ...more

What a wonderful book! Thank you, Jason Evert, for portraying the life of JP II in this way. Thank you for not only writing of his background before he was Pope and the many things he accomplished before being Pope and while being Pope, but also for including the many heart-warming and astounding moments John Paul had with other people. Arsene Houssaye was right when he said, “Tell me what you love, and I will tell you who you are.” To read of someone’s life in a different perspective, one that ...more

An insightful, deeply moving account that is both powerful and beautiful. The book is divided into two parts: the first biographical and the second containing reflections on this great saint's "five loves" alongside further biography. While informative, neither section is boring by any means and kept "alive" with truly remarkable, real-life anecdotes and quotes from Saint John Paul II's life. His personality is also readily apparent, with a sprinkling of irreplaceable humor throughout. All in al ...more

For anyone who doesn't want to dive into George Weigel's biography on JPII, this is a perfect introduction into the life of this man, covering his humility and just how deep his faith in God goes. It was a great reminder for me that the path to holiness is paved through our prayer, and Jason Evert does a great job of describing how at every pivotal moment in his life John Paul could be found in prayer. Full of great anecdotes from the Saint's life, anyone interested in reading about him will not ...more

I read this book about 2 years ago and finished it in a few days. I did not expect it to captivate me as much as it did. I had no idea of the deeply serious and life threatening trials that Saint John Paul faced. It truly makes his life even more remarkable. The things he faced would have deterred so many from continuing on the path that they were called on. The book captivated me with the interesting facts , war time challenges, and how he managed to stay focused and overcome to be the leader o ...more

I loved this book. I was a little kid through the largest portion of his Popedom and really didn’t know much about him. I got to know him through these pages, a really wonderful collection of stories about him, the millions of people he touched, and his inner pious and prayerful life. He was a force to be reckoned with for sure. It’s really wonderful that he was made a saint so quickly after his death and we as Catholics now have the ability to pray for his intercession. His devotion to Our Lady ...more

This biography is very easy to read and full of short, wonderful stories of Saint John Paul's life. Prior to this book, I knew JP2 was a great man mainly from word of mouth and pop culture because I was too young during his papacy to realize his greatness firsthand. This book is a quick yet powerful overview of key aspects of his life. It left me with a much stronger appreciation for him and a desire to learn more.

It took me a while to really understand what it means to deeply desire to become a saint. But then I read this book, and I was completely convicted of the love St. John Paul II has for Jesus (and his Mother). Reading about his life made me want to be better, pray better, live better - in such a hopeful way. Truly a beautiful book that I would read over and over and over again.

This book is a beautifully and, dare I say, dutifully written account of the life of Saint John Paul the Great. It is full of faith-filled nuggets so be prepared to receive grace and take notes. This book is wonderful for those curious about the Catholic papacy, the life of Pope John Paul II or for fallen-away Catholics who’ve come home.

What an amazing story/chronicle about a very loving holy man. I’ve always appreciate Saint John Paul II but to understand better where he came from and the journey he had is awe inspiring. I’m not sure if it is the way the book was written or the author or just the amazing person the John Paul was, I really want to read more about him and by this author. Great book

amazing. probably one of the best biographies I've ever read - the way he formatted the information flowed so well. I usually don't like reading nonfiction/biographies - I usually reach a point where I put it down and never pick it back up - but I couldn't put this one down. I feel like Pope John Paul II is a close friend now.

“The essential reason for choosing a person must be personal, not merely sexual. Life will determine the value of a choice and the value and true magnitude of love. It is put to the test most severely when the sensual and emotional reactions themselves grow weaker, and sexual values as such lose their effect. Nothing then remains except the value of the person, and the inner truth about the love of those connected comes to light. If their love is a true gift of self, so that they belong to the other, it will not only survive but grow stronger, and sink deeper roots. Whereas if it was never more than a sort of synchronization of sensual and emotional experiences it will lose its raison d’être [reason for existence] and the persons involved in it will suddenly find themselves in a vacuum. We must never forget that only when love between human beings is put to the test can its true value be seen.” 3 likes
