Mark's property business is sinking in debt, but one of his brothers, Brian, brings an opportunity to clear everything, … by carrying out fraud against Brian's employer. In a step too far, Mark has to seek help from a mysterious organization, financed from overseas, and possibly with links to organized crime. The relationship with his wife Amy becomes fraught, and when his second brother dies unexpectedly, he has an affair with his brother's widow Rachel, a situation which seems under control, until Amy falls under Rachel's spell … Meantime, the FBI, pursuing organized crime, uncovers a connection to Mark. For the FBI, the objective is the criminal organization, and Mark is no more than a tool they will make use of.
Suspense builds as Mark is trapped between loyalty to Amy, and the pressures from external forces. And then he realizes that his and Amy's lives may be at risk…
If you like corporate thrillers from Joseph Finder, Stephen Frey and Michael Ridpath, you'll love 'Deadly Intrigue'.
My first novel, “Deadly Contract” was inspired by some of my experiences working overseas. My second novel, “Deadly Intrigue”, is centered on property fraud, and a whole lot more. My third novel “Reunion for Murder” deals with a series of mass murders, connected with a college reunion. I've also a short story collection called "Deadly Journeys", where what seem to be straightforward journeys become life-threatening!
Aside from writing fiction, my passion has been to take steps to avoid the illnesses so common in later years. I’ve made many notes on research findings and publications, and have now published these in “Surviving 70 - A Strategy for Longevity”.
This book was very kindly given to me as an eBook by Mike Mitchell to review.
This novel starts out with Mark owing money to Kyle and lots of it, he uses all the money in his wife's savings and remortgages the house to but isn't enough. Kyle's men beat him up a little and then Kyle gives him two weeks to get the money or he loses everything. The fear of losing everything causes him to get into more trouble with fraud and he ends up having to borrow more money off Kyle and ends up in a downward spiral of trouble. The book contains murder, infidelity, and illegal activity, which leaves Mark scared and in trouble.
It was a steady start which picked up nicely throughout and keeps you wanting to read on to find out what happens. It's a good read and I enjoyed the side story between Rachel and Amy, it was a nice addition in the middle of all the fraud and murder. I went through the book thinking I'd nailed who the killer was and what was going to happen and was pleasantly surprised when I found out I was wrong all along.
Its was a very interesting story. I felt like I was watching a train wreak I had to keep reading to actually find out what really happened. I hated some of the characters and they way they acted but the mystery of the story is not what you would expect. The actual murders of them all are not who you expect! which makes it a fun mystery because you think you have it all sloved when in reality it is completely different, I say it was addicting to read because you have to know what happened it really does pull you into the story. Thank you Mike Mitchell for giving me the opportunity to read your book it really was addicting
I received this book as an e-book from Mike Mitchell. The story starts off with Mark a realtor having some financial issues. His brother who works investing for a pension fund helps his brother by selling him some property under its value. Things go so smoothly they decided to team up and do some more transactions. Needing investors they become involved with criminals and the story turns to drugs, sex, murder. I must admit I was surprised by the ending. I would recommend this book.
